I live in a supposedly nicer part of San Diego. In the last three years I have had a motorcycle stolen, the license plate stolen off another motorcycle, personal items stolen out of my car, and just yesterday the registration sticker off my car's license plate. Porch pirates are rampant. The roads in some parts of town are like the surface of the moon. Traffic sucks, transit is patchy, gas is expensive. I earn $148k/year but I would need to at _least_ double that to ever hope to afford a home. Everything at the grocery store suddenly seems to cost at least $7. I have NO idea how people support families on a fraction of what I make. The only reason I haven't been forced to flee is that my landlord is a saint and hasn't raised my rent. It's been a great place to live until now, but I'm eyeing greener pastures.

@@omarrubio1231 What I mean is that the median home price in my county is hovering just under a million effing dollars and I'm supporting three other people on my income. Not that I'm crying...people obviously feed a family here on much less (somehow). But it does feel shitty that, despite earning what I consider to be a pretty healthy income, I'm effectively priced-out of ownership where I live. Even the crummy 2-BR condo I'm renting is "worth" over half a million at present, and it would be a hardship for me to pay a mortgage on THAT-especially with the recent inflation on food and such. I would have to eat mostly beans, never take a vacation, and probably quit funding my retirement. I'd be on the hook to fix shit. And my kids still wouldn't have a yard. WTF is the point?

“Upgrading” reservoirs is not the right solution. As trapping the water at the surface releases more water into the air then keeps it. The biggest issue is over pumping of groundwater, as it’s the main source of water for most Californians. It’s better to focus on taking care of the aquifers for longevity rather than making a new dam or making a reservoir bigger.

California has the best #1 economy in the nation, and the best #5 economy in the entire world. Californian people on average have the SECOND longest life expectancy in U.S and conservative states are on the bottom. High taxes in California goes to SUBSIDIZE those poor red republican states. If California is that bad, why is it the most populated state? why most people come to California. And keep in mind, each section of California is different. A lot of homeless in Ca also came from other states. For one , it has a mild good weather, and plenty of social programs that could benefit the homeless. Don't get me wrong, Ca has many issues, but it's a paradise compare to those red conservative states in the deep south. No comparison. My family moved away from CA years ago. The one thing I noticed is that the people who hated on CA had either never been there, jealous...or both. Everyone thought I could surf (never been to the beach), rubbed shoulders with movie stars (does Santa Claus at the mall count?), frequented Disneyland on a weekly basis (I was there once in a stroller). They bought into the image sold by movies/tv and through some inferiority complex thought I wanted to hear what they thought about my birth state. CA has its problems like every single state, much of which is due to the huge population. But give me the beauty of open farm land, coastal mountains, Yosemite, giant Redwoods/Sequoia, and yes, sunsets into the ocean...all with perfect weather any day. There's really no state quite like it.

I live in Marin County in California. Very peaceful and beautiful. When there is plentiful rain it is one of the best places to be. The food I get is high quality and the place is not dominated by retail chains - a lot of local stores. There are problems that Biggs mentions like drought and wildfires. But where I am there is little crime, there is none of that status seeking (I think that is down in LA), the air is exceptionally clean unless we get wildfire smoke, the people are mostly super nice. I don’t commute - work from home. There are a lot of immigrants here but, generally, they add to the richness of the society. I guess when people say immigrants they don’t like they are from south of the border. These immigrants tend to be very hard working. It’s a big place and there are a lot of parts of California that have a lot of problems.

Almost all of the problems mentioned in this video, came about due to the great invasion of rich elitists, that began in the 80's. They brought their bad politics and bad attitudes, with the intent of turning the state into a Playground for the Rich! They used their money as a weapon, and they vilified anyone who did not go along with their agenda. I miss my old home. I'm 51. Born in raised in California. When I retire, I plan to sell and move...even if I have to sneak into that state. I mean, who needs friends who are going to judge you simply because of the place you were birthed. It's not because I hate being here either. I have been through a lot of earthquakes...twice while sitting on the toilet, but earthquakes are nothing compared to tornados, hurricanes, and floods. So using that as an excuse is just dumb. There are some aspects of living here that make California suck if your middle class status isn't making over $100k a year. For me, it's the high taxes, utilities, and insurance. My homeowners and car insurance policies were both ridiculously raised last year for no other reason than me existing here. Perfect driving record, 5 year old low milage vehicle that's garaged at night, and my home is nowhere near any fire zones. So, unfortunately for me, in order to comfortably afford retirement, I'll have to look for a state that's not as expensive. Yet according to someone in the comments, state workers make a lot of money. No, Sir. Only certain state government entities and their enept management make a lot of money. Yes, we do have pensions, as do city, county, and federal government employees in any state in the US. A big deduction comes right out of my check monthly to fund said pension.

California as the most populated state is expected to have more issues than less populated states, because demand for housing raises rents/mortgages, and other prices at stores, etc. also, many people tend to flock to areas where there's more prosperity/better paying jobs, and that's logical. Back in the early 80's we went out to California to spend Christmas with family we had in los Angeles and it was fairly decent, we felt safe, fast forward to the present day and it is anything but, we were delivering Winnebago motor homes to the dealerships in San Bernardino and Colton, and it was pretty crime ridden & dirty, so sad to see our cities falling to slums 😮

Today if you travel through Granada Hills which is 25 miles north of Los Angeles it is now hard to see much difference, homeless tents everywhere. We moved to Northern California in 2011 and now can no longer afford to continue to live here do to the high cost of living. Third gen SoCal here, moved away 25 y.o. The air quality in LA is much improved from 50 y.o. Some locales have snow days, in the 1960's LA schools would have smog days where schools were closed. All this changed with the adoption of car exhaust regulations (catalytic converters) and moving away from lead gasoline. CA regulatory laws tend to be adopted by other states and eventually at the federal level. Though regulation can create problems and headaches, a lot of time it really does help solve them. I am proud of CA for many reasons and this is one of them. Homelessness is due to the incomparable weather, and partially the chill vibe.

It requires a strong weather system passage to move the smog out of the area.
