The word pomlázka comes from a verb pomladit - rejuvenate. So, maybe we can translate pomlázka as a rejuvenater. :-)

You forgot to mention, that men should know at least some traditional easter poems, because you have to recite them (to the beat) while spanking. Also traditionaly, you would have to make pomlazka by yourself, so for example it my family buying one is still considered as cheating and we live in brno, 2nd largest city. Finding right willow tree for the braches there is a bit of a hustle.

A playful way to meet the young woman you had an interest in meeting, all under the "watchful eye of your future mother-in-law". If she accepts your playful sporting, she ties a ribbon to the willow stem. Similar to a maiden bestowing her scarf to a knight of her choice at the jousting tournament. Beverages and cakes are shared for further conversation. If the young knight is too eager or harsh, he retreats soaked with water and hungry without food. Always a thumbs -up for Real Prague Guides!

Love Real Prague Guides. I lived in Prague for 15 months 1980 to 81. I celebrated the inauguration of Ronald Reagan at the Schönborn Palace. Yes, the location of the US Embassy. I Was a US Marine assigned to the Embassy. I'm so happy to see after watching all your tours that the majority of the scaffolding that cluttered the beautiful architecture during communist rule has mostly been removed. Hope you can feature the Schönborn Palace on one of your future videos. My time in Prague are some of my most cherished memories. Prague, a beautiful and romantic city. Love the Czech people and the worlds greatest beer. Hope to tour with you one day. I have to admit though, I don’t remember any Easter spanking going on during my time in Prague, I guess the communist did not allow that tradition. Keep up the great work RPG.

My former chech girlfriend informed me about this tradition. She added that according to her intensive research in the matter she had come to the conclusion that the guys with the biggest whips had the least to offer. 😼🥳

it is little older, but in village men/girls would go to grab willow branches and make the pomlázka at home - my sister made it for me and my brother - the more branches and better design - the better

As a child, I always whipped girls to get a chocolate and some eggs from them. I think it's important to remember that it also brings them health and beauty. We should do it for a good cause and not for a chocolate or eggs.

From what I've heard, the opinions about this tradition are so diverse! Most girls/women I talked to don't mind it at all. But then there are some who have been actually traumatized by it. I don't know what to think, I never experienced it and so I can't built a real opinion, but from what I've seen in videos, it always looks like a lot of fun for everyone and I'm glad the Czechs at least let some old traditions live! I find it so sad that the Czechs take so little pride in their traditional culture. Especially if you compare it to Slovakia. I love Czechia, I love the language and I also love their dark humor and traditions. But I wish they would live all they have. Moravian culture especially, the wild music and dances. I don't understand why they don't take pride in their own culture and instead keep the image alive for all the people from other countries that Czechia was all and only about beer, porn and German/Austrian-influenced music and dances. Btw I'm from Germany and I've always loved slavic culture and hated my own. That's why I hate that Czechs seemingly (to me from what I've experienced) mostly don't have any interest in being unique. The irony is that I'm learning Czech only because it's the most unique and beautiful language I've ever heard.
