As a kid, I was so excited whenever a new episode of "Day9's Funday Monday" was released, because it was so hilarious for me to watch. I missed Day9 a lot in the SC 2 scene, and how SC 2 completed my days, as a child.
I'll never forget Day9's amazing story about how he had a girl he was into come over to his house and he was so excited for her to see how good at Starcraft he was, only for her to say "You sure do click a lot in this game. Is this just a game where you click as fast as you can?" Day9 Daily was such a treat and I was so sad when it came to an end.
Seriously. I was never much into starcraft but I've watched the odd daily here and there, episode 100 feels like you've watched a feature length movie by the end of it. He has such an amazing ability to make you feel the exact emotions he's reliving with him as he tells his stories.
@@Addictivemeh that was when he won the final game of a tournament by scouting a 2gate and barely getting his 2 sunkens up to defend it right :D ??....
Man Day9 was such an inspiration for me as a kid. I remember him talking once about how he would meet a girl or make new friends and all he wanted to do was share with them this new trick he learned to counter lurkers or something like that. How he was just so happy and excited about anything he was passionate about and didn't care what other people though of it. His funny and dynamic storytelling. This man just ooozed confidence and from the outside world people would wonder why would a weeb like that with a goofy missing tooth be so happy and full of confidence; however no one could deny that they were drawn to it. I started implementing that in my life as well. I never hide anything I'm doing from anyone, I always try to put my best face on and be happy, I get super passionate and love to share anything that interests me, never embarrassed by what others might think about it and that attitude has made me so many friends and taken me so many places. Big thanks to Day9 for being the streamer we all needed 10-15 years ago. Todays twitch streamers are a cancer compared Day9. I even remember Day9 in the Justin.tv days and without his success on that platform you have to wonder if twitch would have ever even came about.
One night, back in 2012 more or less,at a pub in Cordoba, south of Spain, I met a guy for totally not nerdy reasons. We were chatting about music and club culture and such and he said he wanted to show me a band in his phone. He takes it out of his pocket, opens youtube and the first video in his recomended list was one of Day9. I stopped him: do you watch Day9? Him: do YOU watch Day9? Me: of course I watch Day9! Insta friendship, and the rest of the night we passed talking about Spanishiwa and his 100 roaches attacks, I still remember. Good days (my gf at the time got annoyed at me for not dancing with her the rest of the night but, hey, she introduced us. Kinda her fault)
He married a super hot girl and her cooking show had millions of views every video, since gaming community is kinda ..different type, he didn't want them near that channel.
This just hit me right in the feels, I remember watching SC2 when it first came out, it was exciting and fresh, I still think of it as a new game, then realize that was all 13 years ago, and it will never happen again - I feel privileged looking back, trying to get into modern games like New World and Valorant was a lesson in toxic immaturity I didn't want.
thank you for reminding me how incredible and lovely of a person Day9 is. i dont watch him much anymore, but every now and then i do pop in and take a look at the channel. still going strong, even to this day. branching out, doing some other stuff :D
I loved the day9 shows when I was young. I'm from Germany and through watching all his shows I started to go from only Ds and Cs in english class to getting As and Bs. Also I climbed up the sc2 ladder very fast with the help of all the inspirational videos. For my life day9 had a huge impact when I was young.
I was a pre-alpha tester on project Atlas and got to play the game with a great group of people. I'm so bummed that the world never got to play it. I enjoyed all the time we spent playing and learning the game. Day9 was incredibly pleasant to hang out with along with some amazing Artillery developers. Shout out to all the other pre-alpha testers out there!
He's said a few times that the SC2 shows, and /especially/ Funday Monday, were just a ton of work. He's pointed out that they were wildly popular, and that if they were easy to do, someone else would've taken up the torch. It's sad, but understandable that he's got other things going on. People still play monobattles to this day, though.
DAY[J] will always be the best for me, I learned almost everything from him when starting to play seriously. I wish him the best of luck in his whole career, life and projects
I learned about Day9 from Magic The Gathering, Spellslingers show. Great show, full of nerdy humor! I missed SC2 due to job and other duties and interests, but used to play BW as a teenager. I watched his series on learning how to play BW few years ago, published around the time of SC remaster release, and finally learned how to play this game properly! His levels of energy are beyond insane ;)
He got me into starcraft 2! God I remember there was old video where he teaches how to improve build timing through spreadsheet in windows. I can't forget my rush build order 2 ghost, 4 marines, marauder + cloak or Emp + nuke at 9 min (wings of liberty). Good times.
I love this channel haha. I commented on the last video you posted YESTERDAY and said “I’d like to see a video on day [9] and his influence on StarCraft and why he left” and you liked my comment. The next day, you posted this. ;)
I discovered and became a fan of Day9 around the time of the SC2 beta. I had never played SC:BW or anything but I played WoW so when I saw that Blizzard was releasing SC2 I wanted to check it out. I ended up coming across one of his videos covering the beta and I started watching him regularly, then I got into watching the Day9 daily. I didn’t even play SC2 all that much, I was pretty casual with it, but I enjoyed watching him so I watched even though I didn’t play the game much. I always enjoyed his casting as well because he was a natural at it and it was always fun and humorous. I still go back and watch old Day9 daily videos every now and then even though he’s moved on. I also still watch his MTGA content too. I’ll support him in whatever he does just because he’s gotten me through a lot and he deserves the best for it. He’s just excellent.
Thank you for this video. Brought me back to my college days staying up at 5am to watch Tastosis and the GSL, crash at 9, get up at 3, watch the Day9 Daily to my breakfast smoke. Ahh take me back
Day9 stopped doing SC2 work for the same reason SC2 can never be as popular as casual games - the barrier for entry is very high. The game is very tough and it's just not fun to play; it's more work than play. Similarly, those SC2 analysis videos were tough to research and prepare, and it wasn't viable compared to spending a fraction of the time just playing a random card game and getting same viewership or more. It just makes sense.
Funny to watch this as someone who has no idea what StarCraft is and found day9 after he stopped playing it. Nobody brings quite the same energy to mtg
Not to mention on July 28, 2021 Day9 tweeted that he would not be making content with any Activision Blizzard games in the future for political reasons.
Can you make a documentary about "HuskyStarcraft"? He was an incredibly talented SC2 moderator, pretty much the best I have ever witnessed so far. Suddenly he disappeared.
Great vid, please make a video about all the starcraft2 songs that popped up during the early years of SC2 for some reason , Tempo, Goyte, Suspense, Viva la Dirt League, Nerd Alert, and "Don't GG" by Anna Prosser etc
im still subbed to Day9, i only go back to watch his SC2 content. i barely watch anything else he's made to be honest. I just wish he'd make a comeback someday. Funday Monday was the best.
Never was a fan just because I couldn't stand his manorisms. I get that is my problem and can see why others liked him and am grateful for his contributions to the sc2 scene.
Same here. His content was hard to watch sometimes, his casting was great though. I watched him because he was one of the first to actually try and teach StarCraft. He's a great creator all round.
Maybe I'm missing something but the reason seems pretty simple. The game is old and not very popular anymore, and Day9 has grown and his interests/priorities have shifted.
Day9 lied. He put out a video where he talked about the future and he said don't worry, he'd would keep making sc2 content but just much less frequently. Then he never posted another Starcraft video like ever
I thought you bring up '' what Day9 has to do with arcade game day9monobattles''. is he creator , or its for him? I played and liked this arcade game , but its not popular anymore none to play with. Keep up good videos!!
I didn't really compare them, they just happened to start around the same time and be the 2 most popular youtubers in SC2 at that period. Apart from these things, the difference is immense
Hate that Husky subhuman I use to watch him daily then he just disappeared without telling his fans anything. I was sad and thought he died that subhuman is ungrateful
Day9 has said that he's "taking a break" from blizzard games due to the sexual harassment controversies of the last few years. It's sort of a "soft boycott". The last Starcraft content he did was in 2017 with his "let's learn how to play starcraft" series. But he still has a channel for gaming. Mainly for Magic, Adventure Games (Mostly Walking) and the occasional big release (ie Elden Ring and currently Baldur's Gate 3). I'm sure he'll do Starcraft content again at some point, but probably not to the point where it's the only game he streams like he used to. He's having too much fun playing different games.
Oftopic, i'm predicting that anothe guy called Wintergaming may (i don't have crystal ball) to leave SC2 too, since he seems become too obssesed with game beyond all reason.
