The way they made Mermaids in this movie is how that actually original were in fiction they werent ment to be full of sunshine and rainbows

Fun fact Black beards a real dude. He would put little candle wicks in his bear so it would make a lot of smoke. It would blow over his face and make him look terrifying. It was an intimidation tactic

When this first came out I was completely disinterested since the trilogy wrapped up everyone's storyline in a nice little, semi neat bow. I remember actually falling asleep in the theater when I went with a friend. Wasn't until I got it on DVD when I grew to appreciate it. As a standalone story, or spin off completely removed from the trilogy, it's a great watch. Jack and Barbossa play off of each other so well in this. The humor is on point, some of the characters said some legitimately funny thing's and the Mermaid attack sequence, though short, is still a major highlight of the series.

This movie was based on a novel called "On Stranger Tides" by Tim Powers, released in 1987. Disney aquired the movie rights to it, and then changed it into a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

In the finale of POTC 3, everybody was like "Jack's got the map to The Fountain of Youth and he's gonna go after it" Part 4 wasn't going to happen for awhile and I couldn't wait to see it. The director Rob Marshall made "Into The Woods (2014) and Mary Poppins Returns" (2018). Johnny Depp reteamed with Penelope Cruz (Angelica), a decade after the late Ted Demme's crime drama BLOW (2001) and both still got that chemistry. I like how these movies tackle more of the myths and legends in those times. The fountain, Mermaids, Blackbeard, etc made things more adventurous. This one had mixed reviews. All the signatures we know and Depp still holds it down with good ol' bravado. This installment broke a lot of records in it's year of release and was the most expensive movie ever made for it's time.

The smoke in the beard of Blackbeard the pirate is called slow match, it's basically a very, very slow burning fuse would just smolder, it could be used to light the normal fast fuses for grenades and canons without having to get flint and steel to make a spark.

The ending where Angelica tries to get Jack to stay by saying stuff like "I'm with child, yours!" gets funnier if you know that Penélope Cruz was actually pregnant when filming

It’s the Pirates movie that made everyone say “Wait, they made a 4th one?”.

Barbossa is my favorite character especially in the last 2 movies . I'm excited for your reaction to the 5th movie .

After the Pirates trilogy I think they did a good job handling a spin off. A lot of other franchises typically fail horribly when they divert from the main story but I think this is an exception. Not as grandiose as the previous ones but I kind of like that they chose to scale it back a bit and just make an adventure film. Definitely still entertaining. The Spanish gave no fucks I love them

All these years and I never noticed that Black Beard and Tai Lung had the same voice. 😅 Now I know why

The real life Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, was known to weave hemp into his beard and light it. This gave a supernatural smoking effect as an intimidation tactic. Although I personally suspect this was more for his recreational use.

Before Ian McShane made it big in the states he starred in a long running UK TV show called Lovejoy where he played a lovable rogue antiques expert, I loved that show so it's always fun seeing him recognised now as the global megastar he's now become, love the guy!

Fun fact: I've only ever seen the first 15 or so minutes of this movie because that's when my friend's DVD crapped out😂

The depiction of mermaids here is exactly how mermaids are in mythology. The idea of “what if they’re understood” was introduced centuries-thousands if years layers by Hans Christian Andersen in The Little Mermaid I believe

I watched the pirate off the Caribbean movies at 6 or 7, they were my hyperfixation .I thought the world building was insane and always wanted more info haha!

this movie was my first introduction to jack sparrow when i was 9 years old watched it at 1am with a friend and had the best time and fell in love with jack as a character later watched the other movies as well and will say the first 3 are just incredible, this one holds a special place in my heart tho and is just as good, wasnt the biggest fan of the 5th but it still has some pretty cool and fun scenes

Even by jumping into the sea the cook wouldn't be safe

In my mind, Pirates of the Caribbean is a trilogy. Then this movie is like a fun little side story, and the last one doesn't exist 💁‍♀️

I adore this film: it's my favorite of the series. The tone, the subject matter, the lore, the score, and the Spanish giving zero fucks.

Syrena means mermaid in greek and latin.. so my guy just gave her a name based on his knowledge of the language of his bible, which I think is pretty cool..😊

I always assumed that Philip became a merman and maybe taught the mermaids to stop eating people? I know this movie and the next one aren't on the same level as the OG trilogy but there is great stuff in both, definitely worth watching them for fans of the franchise.

Queen Annes Revenge is the name of the Actual ship used by the real Blackbeard, its sunk off the coast of the Carolinas. You can scuba dive down to it if you have the certification to scuba dive.

Two things. First, I LOVED how you basically FAINTED when you recognized Ian McShane as Blackbeard. Second, LOVE the way mermaids are portrayed in this film. And fun fact: Thanks to this film, "My Jolly Sailor Bold" has become an unofficial theme song of mermaids as a whole!

I’ve been watching some similar live-action Disney movies from around the same time as Stranger Tides. May I also recommend Prince of Persia and John Carter? I also highly recommend Tron and Tron: Legacy (the latter of which is my favorite movie).

What's funny is Penelope Cruz was pregnant while filming this movie. So naturally a lot of scenes where she's seen up close were mostly there to hide her belly. However, for some of the wider shots where you can actually see her entirely well, turns out she also has an identical twin sister. So yeah. Pretty neat.

He doesn't only voice act him but he also acts like him. HA!

im glad you watched it, as i said in the previous video, yes, these 2 movies are not as good as the trilogy, but i think they bring a good closure to it, like, they are not as good, but they didnt ruin the characters, not like the star wars sequels did.

32:57 I saw this on its opening weekend in 3D. And this shot, with Blackbeard, was one of the coolest effects in the film. But when you see it here in 2D, it kinda lacks the punch it has to have.

Honestly, I enjoy this one. Dead Man's Chest is my favorite of the five, but this worked as a standalone. I just wish we didn't have the shoehorned romance.
