My grass seed didn't germinate this spring and it's my fault! I didn't read the labels on the grass seed bags. Last year I repaired bare spots with Vigoro's Contractor's Mix, which is 50% ANNUAL rye grass (not perennial)... so it didn't return this year. My second mistake was that I reseeded the bare spots this year using a bag of Vigoro tall fescue that I got from a big box store. I like the seed, but the bag I purchased was two years old! Oops! So while I did all the proper preparation work (mowed short, removed thatch and debris, loosened soil, seeded heavily, used starter fertilizer for seeding, put down a top dressing of peat moss, raked in the seed with the back of a rake, watered 3 times a day for 5+ weeks to keep the seed moist), it was a wasted effort. And while September is the best time for seeding, I've been able to establish a spring lawn before the summer heat in the past. Oh well! I guess I'll get another shot in September!
