So instead of using self discipline to not sin, i will use self discipline to seek and love jesus christ. And the more i do this the more sin dies off of me. I am dead to sin and alive in christ jesus. :)....

You will still sin, but it’s ok. If you believe, Jesus will pay for all of them- past present and future All you need to do is confess. Yes, striving for godliness done in gratitude for what He has already given you Is pleasing to God. But don’t fall into the trap that you feel that you have to earn your salvation- none of us can, - it’s why we need and Love Jesus

We sin because we are in the flesh. That's why we need Jesus. There is nothing we can do to escape it while we are alive, so we have to follow Christ until the end.

you're exactly right when you say there is nothing we can do by our own efforts. but ask yourself what christ died for? when you realize how underserving we are to receive the fathers grace it should push faith into action, that action becomes "works" or fruits of the grace we received by faith

Take off two weeks in the month and use it to seek the Lord with prayer and fasting and you will see His holy spirit comes to you then you will know the truth because while you are failing to conquer the sin is because your not implying work in your faith every day,( 1 Peter 5:8-9)( you are not putting down the sinful nature that raise to control your mind every day by having shot fasting everyday(2 Peter 3:17) as you know almost all the people are living after their sinfulnature flesh, but we suppose to be putting it down everyday and Jesus promised us that if we die on the cause of denying ourself everyday then we shall see Him in His kingdom, those who are living after the flesh can not make it over there galatians 5:19-21. If you love your life in this world you will lose it, but if you comes to the discipline of Holy spirit and denying your heart of its evil through fasting and prayer often with faith, then you will be working in the spirit and entering heaven will be so sure to you.

I will help you. I suggest that you come to understand the "fear of the Lord." It is the beginning of knowledge, as stated in Proverbs. This is because if you have been converted in the biblical way, (Acts 2:38) you then must live in compliance to the New Covenant, of which is to uphold the Law of God. (Love God & love others as yourself.) That said, having the fear of the Lord is to fear what he has the power to do on judgment day. Romans 2:5-11 states that every one will be judged by their deeds. This judgment will bring what is deserved, based upon one's deeds in this life. If you have the fear of the Lord, you will have to choose to obey or not. If you choose to obey, that is evidence that you believe. If you choose not to obey, that is evidence that you do not truly believe.

blessed by your words praise Jesus. I have been saved since the age of 7 and I am 54 now. I have learned that we have the power to say no to sin through Christ Jesus. When I practiced sin in my 20s I did it because I wanted to and I did not seek First the Kingdom of God and I stopped reading my bible daily I would still read it but maybe 3 or 4 times a week, not every day as I did before. God showed me that only He can open eyes and with His Holy Spirit can keep us living right making the right choices. He allowed me to go through the pain of not seeking Him every day even though it was only 3 months when I was 27 it was my worst 3 months ever. When we sin we choose to sin but we really do not have to sin because Jesus gave us the power to say no when we really want to say no it is possible. Until God allows the devil to bring distress in our lives that is when we decide we had enough and do not want to go through the pain of our sin. If God allowed everyone to get away with their sin without receiving the punishment people would continue to sin and it would be worse in this world. God wants us to live in peace and He will make sure to keep all of us in line so we do not give those around us grief. Like many people want to get married but they live like the devil while saying they're Christians and God sees them and know their thoughts. God keeps these people single until He changes them so it will keep these people from ruining someone else's life with the sinful ways they do not want to give up. When we decide to stop practicing sin our bodies start to ache because we are getting delivered from the addiction some people cannot take the pain so they keep the sin. I say go through the pain which is horrible but once God sets you free you never go back because of not wanting to go through that pain ever again. God gives us the horrible pain so we do not do that sin again to avoid the pain because sin does hurt. John 5:14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” 1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. Galatians 4:9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 1 John 3: 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. I struggle with sin daily. But I seen this somewhereand saved it for myself. "Why do we still sin then?" We sin because we still focus on our conduct rather than our beliefs. It is the beautiful scandal of the gospel that the only way to be free from sin is to stop trying to be free from sin! Paul himself said that "the strength of sin is the law" (I Corinthians 15:56). If we insist on being conduct focused we will continue to be slaves to sin. If we change gears and focus on our beliefs, we will inherit a greater reality, that we are righteous in Christ!"

I have come into such a gratitude for Jesus's sacrifice on the cross and over flowing generosity and grace that even the thoughts of the sins I used to dwell in now repulse me. I feel such a gratitude that I dont want to commit those sins anymore because I dont want to let Him down. Every time I find myself being tempted I immediately begin to talk to God. I profess and admit my weakness to him in that moment and I ask for his strength and protection. I dont want to let him down.

@@ShamelesslyRed Jesus didn't teach Hell. Paul didn't teach hell The gospel of John has no hell. Hell in every case save 1; in the NT; Hades (the grave') or Gehenna (a Jerusalem dump yard). (the one time is in Peter; it means Tartarus). Hell was a made up word; made up in 725 AD. Hell was erroneously added to our KJV Bible in 1611 AD, In short; hell is false doctrine.and a dishonor to God.and also a dishonor to the purpose of the cross. Do some study and see for yourself where it came from. Or you can continue to argue for it's existence and be wrong.

@@James_no_hell in truth, the TRUTH is, we cannot know for certain. The last plague that Jesus puts an end to is death. Hell is a reality. Jesus spoke about it more than he spoke about heaven. We will all know all things we can't know for certain on the other side of eternity won't we. Just pray. Stay close to Jesus. And love people like He commands us to. And the lake of fire is real, no matter what it's called in Hebrew, Greek, German, Spanish or English.

I am so convinced of God sovereignty! It seems like a lot of us have been dealing with this. I just prayed about this this morning. Every roll the dice is in God’s control. I’ve thought this for a while I don’t know the person who post these up on their production team. But God is doing his will through this channel. Because it seems like a lot of times what post is what a lot of us need at the exact time. Glory to God none for us always!

We are told that what Christ did was and is a complete work..a complete sacrifice. What doesnt get taught, in the Church , is that it really is a 'war'. All kinds of things out to catch you out etc. Dont give up though!

Intimacy with Jesus is the most pleasurable but it grows little by little. There is “self” control and “Self”discipline which are given by the Spirit of God. To say this will fail and make one 7 times self righteous is not 100% true...though it can be true. We can’t depend on the sensual to lead us though my favorite way to live is in the pleasures of the beauty of the Lord.

So basically I've been putting my energy into the wrong thing this whole time!! Which is funny because just this week I came to realize that just about every thought we CHOOSE to follow in our head is a deliberate and concentrated action, like imagining something evil play out (and also doing that thing). But forcing yourself to think of something else is also deliberate and possible, so with this I began to think this was the way to beat sin: recognizing that committing sins are deliberate choices. I experimented with shutting off my thoughts and switching around activities. While I think I'm doing a great job and everything, I know deep down it still isn't going well. But after watching this video I know John is right. All this laboring (which still fails) brings glory to me, which is evil because it has nothing to do with Jesus who is the ONLY way to salvation. I've been setting myself up for boasting and that's not cool. But at least I can put my realization to work the right way now. Someone here said to put deliberate energy into seeking out Jesusn and loving him. And John Piper clicked that together for me saying that the relationship with him organically results in sin reduction, which gives Jesus glory. I'm glad I can "do" something because I've struggled a lot with "just sit around and believe!" which they taught me at church. I still have waaaaay more to learn and I'm so glad I'm even here at all. To me it means I'm being worked on... (Sorry for the long post!)

Jesus said "I am the way". I know that it is him who I turn to when I struggle. However I too still have much to learn and "do". You are in a battle for your soul (we all are) and it has to be won in your mind. Ask God to help you stay focused on right thoughts. But don't get distracted. You need to keep your mind on living in a way that pleases God in every way, from your thoughts to your actions. If you realize that you are trapped and need to be delivered, knowing what you need to do goes together with prayers for your deliverance, because you must follow God's instructions to you in your situation. You must be willing to see what it feels like to say "No" to a desire of your flesh when you are being tempted, and see how the temptation goes away (James 1:12-15). God's grace will help you to do that (Titus 2:11-14) and He will be with you in all those moments if your focus is on loving and pleasing Him above all and you trust that He will deliver you. Your obedience as you choose to follow God's ways opens the door to receiving his forgiveness for your past sins (Romans 3:25), healing (Luke 5:31-32), and the gift of *a new life* that you will live for God and no longer for sin/addictions and the passing things of the world (Romans 6:4-7, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15). You just need to approach God the way He expects you to-with the right mindset. James 4:7-8 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. This is always a good place to start drawing near to God: Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. That will lead you to transformation by the power of God and freedom from sin. Peace to you!

If you are in 100% agreement with God about doing his will for the rest of your life, you will become "dead to sin" as the Bible says (1 Peter 2:21-24, Romans 6:1-2, Romans 6:11): that is how you will be set free from sin (John 8:34-36, Romans 6:4-7, Romans 6:14-18). If you are dead to porn and porn is dead to you, then you will be walking in freedom and overcoming it by the grace of God (Titus 2:11-14). That is different from being in a constant battle. You can be once and for all victorious in Jesus. The key is to obey Him. Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him It is the truth that will set you free (John 8:31-32, 36).

Finally! Someone who understands the gift of righteousness. So nicely put Mr Piper. Sin is not mastered by self, but by the love of Christ through true saving faith, which is the consciousness of the presence of Christ through the Holy Spirit. We are not called to obedience in works of righteousness, but are called to the obedience of faith in Christ (ROm. 1:5; 16:26), which results in righteous conduct of life.

I repented last month & have since then rebuilt my marriage, read Bible, Pray alot, & burned all my DVDs, music, or any other sinful items but for the life of me I can't stop smoking or taking my prescription to sleep or feel good. Mind you I've cut way back but these addictions still must go because I Hate them & want to not sin any more but my flesh is still craving these things. God please get rid of these chains!

Please see the videos in my playlist called _"Be Set Free From Sin"_ for help. God's grace will help you overcome sin and live a new life that is pleasing to Him (Titus 2:11-14). But it starts with repentance first, in the way that the Bible teaches it. Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in. Peace to you!

I don't like calvinism but i love piper doing his work filled with love towards Jesus. And I remember psalmists saying they turn from sin and delight in God's laws and his words. I think that is the pleasure of God that replaces the pleasures of this world.

Very good answer, as I repeated that sin, and each times I pay hundred times, I lose money, more health issues, because I feel so guilty, and more more I ask Jesus for forgiveness, because truly I can feel satan is driving me to do it so be far and farther away from God and Jesus, that is why I keep confessing keep repenting because I admit I was just not thinking or captured by evil, i don’t even need do that, but is just daring and i get very tiny pleasure but that moment I am not aware of it , i have reached to point that i absolutely have no desire for anything material I don’t care if I wear nice sparkling outfits or not, I have lost interest in almost anything material, and developed more nature love, more and more compassion, more and more more giving away as much as I have, am extremely generous helping others kind and giving giving, and I think is because in the process of repenting over and over it started fading away, I love Jesus much and he is only one been loyal to me and cared for me 🙏🤲✨📿🙏🤲✨📿

Something that helped me to overcome the same sin over and over again is praying the rosary daily would recommend when you know you will sin or a time when you usually do it. Hope this helps hope you get out of your sin your not alone

This is why Satan uses our sin to make us feel too ashamed to go to God after we've sinned. If we think that God is too angry with us, or that we're too bad to go to and speak to God after sinning, we won't go to him to confess and get our peace and satisfaction there - and then we sin even more, to try to get the satisfaction that we need. Run straight to God when you sin - "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9 :-)

Amen. I searched this up thinking I could just “destroy my sin” when Christ is the only one who can do that. I now know my pleasure with these sins aren’t anywhere near the pleasure of Christ who saved me from death.

You do have to destroy your sin. You do that in repentance. Keep these words in mind: James 1:21-22 21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness [that's repentance], receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word [that's faith, which implies obedience], and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. Isaiah 1:16-20 16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, 17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. 18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; 20 But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. Colossians 3:5-6 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience [...] By his grace, Jesus empowers you to put Him first in your life and do all that. So, the ball is in your court. You can't wait on God for deliverance from sin while God is waiting on you to agree on what his call to repentance is. But repentance is seldom preached like the Bible teaches it, so people go to many ways of explaining why they remain trapped in sin and believe Jesus offered his life for them to struggle with sin and not overcome it rather. Whether you say you are destroying your sin or turning a way from it, you can succeed only if you hate sin like God hates sin. And of course, what Jesus only can do is giving you a clean slate, forgiving/erasing your past sins up the the point when you are turning to God (coming to Jesus). Jesus says this to anyone who has an encounter with Him and is ready to live for God: "I do not condemn you, now go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). I invite you to look into that. Most of the messages you will find will tell you that you can't do right and that maybe you can't even want to do right. But nobody will show you that in the Bible. Sin leads to death (James 1:13-15, Romans 6:23), so being saved from that means being free from the enslavement of sin (Matthew 1:21, Acts 3:26, John 8:34-36, Romans 6:14). The key is repentance and you definitely can do that. Jesus made the way for you to do your part.

I’ve been struggling with this as well. There is no specific prayer that you can do, prayer is a conversation between you and God you just gotta lay it down. I’ve recently come to terms with the fact that you have to stop making excuses and lying to yourself about your sin. I’m at this point and I’ve literally cried over this admission of my fault part because I just don’t want to accept it. I’ll have to see where this takes me. Desiring God is no easy thing when we live in a world filled with nothing but desire. Hope your doing well after these months.
