The community should start an annual conference. Would be cool

I got introduced to wet shaving by a Master Chief of mine about 5 months ago. Started really getting into it by watching videos such as yours Jack. I enjoy taking the time in the mornings plus the scents, brush feeling and of course the outcome.

I totally agree with you. Wet shaving makes me feel great and I look forward to it every second day. My work mates think I’m nuts when I say: “I had a gorgeous shave today”.

I got into wet shaving to find a better way to shave, then fell in love with the hobby. I love buying new gear, trying new scents, new bases, new razors, and I love the community. But that's just a part of it...I love following the Facebook groups, seeing the products people are using, watching videos, waiting for drops, jumping on lives...It's all fun. It's cool to share the hobby with people that love it as much as you do. But the best part is the ritual of shaving. It used to be a daily task when I used carts. Now I plan what brush to use, the razor, the soap/splash, and I look forward to every shave!!!!

I feel where you are coming from I used to HATE shaving and would go month's between shaves until I found Wetshaving and gave it a shot... now my hair can't grow fast enough I shave every other day and WISH i could do it every day. I just plain out enjoy it either DE or Straight I get up at 4am just to shave on days where I have to be at work at 6 lol and the scents are amazing I think that's a big draw in for me.

I love wet shaving because it takes an every day ‘chore’ and turns it into a mindful ritual which you can bring a meaningful quality of attention to and give yourself some much-needed downtime and pamper yourself in a way that shows that you care about yourself! It is particularly important if, like me, you can have a rather dim and negative view of yourself. We stand in the footsteps of our ancestors, our beloved fathers and grandfathers who have taken razor to face to show the world that we are orderly, dependable and refined gentleman and I love all the traditional products that help us guys connect with each other, with other men around the world who have to wash, shave and get on with the day’s work! It’s great to have a network of support and friendship in a world that can get all too cynical and cold. I have enjoyed your videos for a while now Jack and, in part inspired by you, have just picked up a Karve razor (B plate with a C on the way). Love and best wishes from your homeland, the UK x

Hi Jack, thanks for your shave/reflections today. I went from electric razor to cart in 2003, then onto soaps and brush but still with carts in 2010. Then in 2015, I was so sick of constant neck irritation I decided to give a double edge razor ago. Like you said it took a while, in fact I gave up for about 18 months, but in 2018 came back to it and now will never go back. I just love it; the soaps the razors, the splashes and again like you said, every couple of days I have 30 mins of just me and the shave! It is a rabbit hole there's no doubt but its worth the money and time! Cheers.

Great idea. It surprised me how much different shaving is now. I really look forward to doing it. Before there was no joy in it. The results are more tangible now. There is a whole other level of satisfaction in it as well. It also connects me with the past in a way. This is tradition. It sounds so strange to watch guys shave but I very much look forward to that also. I have learned so much about technique as well. It is about appreciating the simple things in life.

I would say for the same reasons as you. I also love fragrances, so this is a big part of that as well. Also love supporting independent businesses.

Great tag idea Jack and awesome shave with some truthful insight. I wet shave because since day 1 of trying it I get excited picking out the gear I will use daily. When I am wet shaving it is almost a state of Zen and complete Serenity for me which is important. My job is very busy and stressful so when I get to shave every day that is my time nothing else matters. It is almost like a type of meditation for me. Have a great weekend brother.

What would you do if this “Wet Shaving Hobby” affect your relationship, family or marriage this should be a Tag..but anyhow some of us have kids and it’s hard to buy a soap or a razor especially with COVID19 times… Anyhow I enjoy it at the moment it’s relaxing and something that interested me, memories from past and wet shaving today is whole different gig today like in past what was offered.. But bottom line is better spend money on soap and something you’ll enjoy than alcohol and other stuff that can a harm your health.. Everybody is different and have their own view.. Enjoy your shave your way 💈🪒👍🏼 Alan H

Since you asked, I enjoyed talking some time for myself, everything beyond that is a bonus.

Let’s see, what do I enjoy the most about wet shaving...for me, it’s definitely a time to relax and just not think about anything but the shave. It makes me feel good and with a busy schedule it’s a time where I can just have my “zen like” moment. Also the community can be great. There’s some drama here and there but that’s with any hobby. Also I feel it’s the best way to shave and I wouldn’t want to shave any other way.

I love the experience, the feel of the blade and the scent of the lather. In addition it's my time. As you mentioned life is crazy, it's the only time during the day that I get to be by myself (mostly) and to do something for me. Past this there is the added bonus of the friends I've made.

Started shaving at 14 with those bleu two blades razor. At the age of seventeen, I’ve bought my Gilette mark 3 razor and I use the same handle until I reach the age of 48. After that my skin on my face was so damaged from all the years of being a real man that can shave with an axe and rinse my face with sand. Like you said it was not only the equipment. The problem was not being able to buy blades because there we’re so expensive, so I stretch them way past there normal usage. After that not taking care of myself and using handsoap to shave my face for example. All that abuse (no shaving technique) for over thirty years, One day my skin told me it was enough your gonna pay for all you did to me. Dry skin, Ingrown hairs, and my skin on my face became really sensible to the touch. It was bad. That’s when I discovered the shaving communauty on youtube at the age of 46. For the first two years I’ve listen to all the big names in the community and during that time I only bought my first brush and a proraso soap. At the age of 47, I saw a video of Kensurf visiting Pasteur’s pharmacy in New York. When I had a chance to go to NY, I’ve visited the pharmacy. It was not a good experience for me. I was overwhelm by all the choices they had, I had only an hour of free time and there was to much things to smell and discover. I wasn’t prepared and I didn’t know what I wanted. I felt like a kid who went for the first time in a candy store and came out with cought drops. It wasn’t that bad but I discovered Thailler’s and TOBS. Just by using that (and also Proraso with cheap brush) helped my skin but it wasn’t enough. I took it to the next step. I’ve bought at the age of 48 my first DE razor (Edwin Jagger DE 89). Today my skin is much happier, my face is no longer sensible to the touch. My complexion is alot better and thanks to all of you (the community in general, but you Jack helped me alot on my journey). I’ve learn from you to take my time and enjoy a very zen moment during the lathering process. Now for me wet shaving is like a stepping stone, I’ve transform an awfull experience (almost a torture) twice a week into an almost daily zen moment and satisfying experience. Everytime I shave, I feel good about my self and I’m having fun. For that my gratitude to you and all the content creator that helped me and still helping me. That very long comment is my modest way to try and give back alittle of my enjoyement. Be well :)

I am about 4 months into my wet shaving journey. I did it for several reasons: have better shave with less irritation, improve the health of my skin, look younger, tired of buying overpriced cartridge razors, reduce the amount of plastic that goes directly into landfills, save money, and improve my mental health by having "me time" in the bathroom.

Nice one Jack. Greta idea for a tag video. I share many of your same reasons. I’m sure this will make it’s way around. With 2 small kids and a busy life this is my few moments of time for myself. Unless of course the kids get up early and well crash my video. Although that’s fun too.

There’s a lot of reasons but I would say the two that keep me going is that I have less irritation and that when I pull out one of my vintage razors it’s like stepping back in time if only for a bit.

Hi Jack, shaving is your meditation. If you are able to find other ways of meditation it would help greatly with your anxiety. Your martial arts is another meditation. Any time you're present and can feel that stillness inside will be the best way to assist your life..

I went into this hobby to save money and I still stay true to that. What I love is the way the blade feels and not so much the soap at all. I'm sure many who read my comments know that by now. Lol. Thanks for sharing your anxiety issues. I personally am not a worrier and theres not much I fear. Of my three daughters my youngest has severe anxiety issues so definatly not a pleasant thing to be afflicted with. Feel for you Jack. Great shave Jack! Cheers Mate👌👍🍻

I started off just liking the use of a brush whilst still using disposables. That then sparked the desire to cut out the use of plastics, in a country that doesn't recycle anywhere near as much as it could, just out of laziness. This morphed into getting good shaves, which in turn lead to enjoyable and relaxing shaves, due to my taking time and enjoying scents. But, I cannot deny that I love the sense of community amongst traditional shavers and to generosity of some of our community members. It allows me to feel, even though I rarely socialize due to confidence issues, that I am amongst friends.
