Such a great video, again ! I know I would've wanted to know that years ago. I learned at the MUFE academy that black came first in theatre so the crew could approach the actors behind the curtain and even if they would accidentally stick their arm or leg out onto the stage, it wouldn't be seen. Another proof this profession is oooooold, but GOLD 😉😘

Nice and simple on the importance in wearing black attire. My take-aways were (1) Blk deflects attention from what/who should be the focus. Very key as a MUA in reaffirming that the focus should not be about and/or on you but the client, talent, and/or production. (2) Being mindful of how colors reflect onto the flesh/skin could impact the makeup application. Good-to great stuff as always. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, experience, and wisdom.

Love your video Dashawn. Can you do a video about networking for makeup artist that not from fashion and beauty capitals ( Milan, Paris, New York, etc) but want to have more international connection ? thank you do much for reading .

I sure can. I just want to understand. You want me to do a video on artists who do NOT do fashion and beauty and who are NOT in big cities? What type of artists are you referring to film TV theatre? Your videos are so informative and so helpful... So glad I found you. I have been watching your videos for the last two days straight.... Just one question... It's really hot where I live ( India) and black is really very difficult to wear in summer. Is there any other shade that you would recommend to wear instead of black that would not change the skin tone of client as much? PS . Working in bridal so black is not necessary but still wear it. But just wanted to know any alternative for summer

I am always wondering about bridal artists though, do you think that wearing black beacuse of it's sad connotation in Western society might be inappropriate on the bride's happy day? Thanks :)

for bridal you need to keep it low key, as deshawn said its not about you as a make up artist its about the client. Black is not as badly thought of as it used to be .

Hi Nika--great question. This is my take on wearing black when doing bridal. In the US many people have black as a color in their weddings--my sister did. I and the bridesmaids wore a beautiful black velvet gown when she was getting married. Support staff also wears black, caterers, servers etc. With some exceptions like white tops/blouses but always dark pants. Remember we are there to work, we are not guests. I have never had any issues with a bride ever being upset about black. NOW wearing white on their day--now that's a whole different story. Glad you asked--hope you feel I answered your question.

Thanks for sharing! Black is so professional as well. Another great reason to wear black is because as Makeup Artists we are working with a lot of products with color. If a mishap happens with those products, (which they will) wearing black clothing allows those stains to not show up as prominent.

In regards to the capes in salons. Do you think it's more beneficial to have clients wear a black or white cape?

I use black, but white for some is preferred. It will bounce light onto your clients face. Since I do both hair and makeup at times I opted for a black cape. Thanks for watching--love your question.

I have black capes for shampooing the hair and so forth but when I’m cutting hair, I use a white cape so I can see better.

DeShawn Hatcher I understand for people in theatre. I used to be involved in theatre but what if you are not working in the entertainment industry. I don't think it is that serious but I could be wrong.

I thought I explained in a few areas why wearing black is important and in some areas especially editorial why it' isn't. Anyway again thanks for watching
