I'm Filipino and I thought we are the only one who points with their lips. The stuff I learn from RU-vid.

@Red 2020 I was told that my grandpa had crooked fingers from them being repeatedly broken by his teachers, while in the Residential school, because he refused to write in English. I guess the trauma stuck with him his entire life and other than the rare occasion of him signing his name, he had grandma or one of his kids write for him. I never got to meet him since he died in 1981 and I was born seven years later. He was 1st nation Ojibway of the Swan Creek Black River tribe. RIP grandpa 1917 to 1981♥️

@@orkotron007 Yet they didn’t face theft of land, genocide, slavery and colonialism for 500+ years that’s still happening to this day in various forms! Why compare white people to indigenous people when you can’t even compare the two!

Men gather power. They begin to grow spiritually and the more they learn the more powerful they become. The more they practice tradition they become very powerful. They begin to have the kind of power and ability to speak directly to the spirits and work with them. We don't point at each other because we could hurt each other. poke holes in each others spirit which is just like using bad medicine against someone. Point with your lips is like blowing a kiss. a tender gesture. careful. Even today if you're across the room and you see someone pointing at you and speaking you feel disrespected because they must be talking about you. along with what she said.

I lived with the Ojibwa in Cat Lake and Slate Falls, Ont. for a couple of years. It brings back great memories. They often pointed with their lips. Bōshō Anishinabe

yep, i was always taught not to point. its disrespectful and can actually be a very aggressive gesture.. especially when pointing directly at someone face-to-face. Out in nature as well, it is usually not a good idea to make large motions like pointing because other animals pick up on the gesture, its better to make the smaller, harder to notice gestures..like lip pointing, so that game does not get spooked and run off, or draw other unwanted attention.

In my culture we often point at someone when we want them to know that we feel them and accept them. Respect and sincerity. We point at the person, and then we touch and tap our chest. Funny how different cultures view the same thing....

It's disrespectful in Bulgaria, as well. But we don't emphasize that much the "lip pointing" when we do it.

My mother. Still alive at 88 years. Said never point. It harms the spirit. Point with your mouth for respect. Many nations have many traditions. All are correct for your region.

I used to lip point as a child, but I don't do it much anymore unless my hands are full. Grandpa was 1st nation Ojibway from the Swan Creek and Black River tribe. Sadly, I never got to meet him since he died in 1981 which was seven years before I was born.

Many outsiders think all native are the same... This is not good. All tribe and clans have many differences. It is not bad or good. It is the way to the Creator.

anything done from respect is good I think. I am not native but am fascinated by the culture and want to learn more. I hope that does not come out wrong. Much love. Also where are the Ojibwe from?

I was also taught not to point your feet at someone. If you are sitting near someone and you have your feet up, they should not be directed at a person. It is like being poked at.
