Laxity can be caused by several reasons as I understand. EDS, hyperflexibility, spasms, elevated estrogen or erratic estrogen, an accident, a surgery that displaces the C1 and if stays out a long time could cause instability, and nerve impingement, also an auto immune disorder/ infectious arthritis can contribute, as well as ergonomic posture issues (teck neck). I've also had problems with the hypermobility and estrogen as well as some chronic A.S.-Like condition caused by Lyme and septic arthritis. I have wondered if the surgical dislocation of my C1 really set me up for problems with my C1 from the situation where Lyme/septic infection from an undiagnosed kidney & walled abdominal infection that I was told got to "presepsis" stage and was overlooked for almost a year and literally never treated with antibiotics (perfect storm) on top of a foundational issue from the surgical injury.
