Yes, there are colleges that offer subjects teaching foreign languages. Spanish can be one of the languages taught, and there are also options like Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, depending on the school you attend.
@@vertzz_official language fluency isn't the end-goal of optional Spanish subjects in the university level, but cultural enrichment, so if you want to produce a generation of Filipinos fluent in Spanish, then Spanish should become the language of instruction at all levels in the basic and higher education and as the working language in the civil service, mass media, private businesses, and religious services.

@@espewisneski buenas dias hermano/hermana, muchisimas gracias for asking. Basically chavacano was the result of what the Spanish colonial government taught our people here before, along with some of the Mexicans that were brought here all the way from Acapulco. The Spanish never taught the majority indios proper Spanish only the mestizos and so as a result the spoken language was chavacano which I understand is " in bad taste." Overtime the creole language took more words from the other local spoken languages, Tagalog, Bisayan, Tausugs, Chinese, Malay and etc. Given enough lessons and practice native chavacano speakers easily learn how to speak modern Spanish... However I am plojo and have yet to convince my friends to try learn.
@espewisneski Correct. As a country colonized by Spain the king of Spain assigned the Mexican government to be the direct Provincial capital of the Philippines during that time that is why we have lots of Mexican people and mixed Filipino-Mexican in the Philippines until today. We are also influenced by their different Spanish words different from Spanish of Spain. Mexican Spanish is somewhat hard and heavy compared to Spanish of Spanish which soft and smooth.

In the Philippines there were (most likely still are) families who spoke Spanish to one another --- my father and several relatives spoke impeccable Spanish --- the nuns in my Catholic school spoke Spanish and for a long time Spanish was included in the school curriculum until an act of Congress abolished it ( I was no longer living in the Philippines when it happened) --- but the Filipinos have Spanish names, celebrate fiestas, semana santa, misas de aguinaldo during Christmas, share media noche or noche buena --- the days of the week: lunes, martes, miercoles etc. are in Spanish and Filipinos can count in Spanish: uno, dos, tres, --- words like tenedor, kutsara, silya are derived from Spanish --- suckling pig is called lechon de leche --- not to mention the Catholic religion --- so the Spanish influence is very much alive and well.
I've met a few castellano speakers in the philippines, but it's not pervasive like american spanish and most of the predominantly spaniard filipinos I know do not speak spanish...filipino on the other hand is filled with the adopted/altered (they use the B. word for it in the philippines) spanish... there are a lot of false cognates too...in my experience it has served to make speaking filipino exceptionally difficult because my brain keeps dropping (without the clutch you might say) into spanish (my second language) and when I try to speak filipino mostly spanish comes out...however, whenever I don't know a filipino word I can get lucky by just saying the spanish word with alterations like ll = ly, io = iyo, ch = ts, no = nyo, etc. But this method isn't as successful as it is in say speaking portuguese or italian...it really makes more sense to just speak english to filipinos, but then what fun is that? And then of course filipino has a bunch of different number systems they use natively: telling time sounds like spanish but written differently, while they regularly use english (actually any time a topic gets complicated they break out the deep english) for large numbers and nonintegers... but of course every generalization of the philippines is very regionally generalized because the philippines is a classic tribal nation, where simply traveling 15km is often enough to experience significant shifts is culture and dialect

Silla in the Philippines is pronounced as Silya (Luzon, Tagalog areas) and Siya (see-ya) in the Visayas. Silla pronounced as Sisha is Argentinian? LL here is pronounced as either Elye or Ye as in Cebollas - Sibuyas, Caballo- kabayo, Cepillo- Sepilyo
I have old photographs from great grandparents and on the back are Spanish sentences and phrases. Not broken Spanish or mixed Spagalog, BUT PURE CASTILIAN SPANISH. And I am not saying our family is from Spain like most Filipinos claim just because they have Spanish last names. No, our family is very native but my great grandparents spoke perfect Spanish because they had access to learn the language. Even back in the 1960s, Spanish was a prerequisite in schools especially in the universities until the 1970s when Spanish was dissuaded. Over time, Spanish has been butchered locally, even its proper spellings. For example the word “cumusta” which was prevalent in the Philippines. Now it is spelled “kamusta” or “calle” now it’s “kalye.”. It’s a shame, I think it is becoming ghetto. Proper Spanish should be spoken and written as well as the encouragements of the Philippine dialects. What irritates me is hearing the younger generation talk taglish and how they pronounce their R’s. They pronounce it without rolling their tongues to sound English like the word “parang.”. Many pronounce it paRRRang instead of par-r-r-ang where your tongue is supposed to roll and flap like a motorboat. I hate hearing taglish with the pasosyal accent.
😂😂😂😂nice myth. I'm from Madrid Spain and every Filipino claiming to know any Spanish made me laugh because they spoke it incorrectly. I can go to any state in Mexico and understand their dialect of Spanish. Mexicans still speak Spanish and Filipinos do not.😂
NEVER!! It's already a relic of its colonial past, you'll just face the firestorm from hardline Nationalist educators, the youth today are more into Japanese anime you'll see them in some weekends during Cosplay and into Kpop, Spanish has no place in today's world as Asian culture spreads across the globe.
Soy Filipino y hablo Ilocano mi lengua materna, Tagalo lengua de ciudad de Metro Manila e ingles por supuesto lengua de commercio e educacion. E ademas yo conozco chabacano de zamboanga e español pq tiene parientes chabacanos alla . Soy Ilocano, una grupo ethnolinguistico de FILIPINAS al norte de pais. ¡Viva Filipinas y Viva hispanidad!
The discovery of the Philippines is significant to world navigation due to the fact that Spain can reach spice islands via west route due to treaty of Tordesillas. Next, the Manila Galleons from Manila to Acapulco gave Spanish empire the peak of world trade wherein products from China go to South America under New Spain (Mexico) then deliver back to Europe. In exchange, silver was traded as highly valuable item to China by that time. On the other hand, chinese porcelains, asian spices and silk were so valuable that they weigh more than gold and a symbol of nobility in Europe during that time.
The only real remnants of the so called Spanish Creole is now centered in Zamboanga City and a little bit in Isabela City & Lamitan City that is in Basilan. But bear in mind that there are a lot of words being used until now from Nahuatl people of Mexico. Zacate, Mole, etc. We still speak Chavacano today. In our radio, gossip, in school, inside and outside of the house actually. We still count our money and amount of things in Spanish when we buy stuff in stores. Un peso, dos peso, dyes peso, onse, dose, trese, katorse, quince, saisenta, sesenta, ochenta, noventa and beynte. Desayuno, Almuerzo and Cena is dominantly used today. Even the colors is the same albeit there are times they use the name of things as comparison. Negro, blanco, koloraw, verde, azul, rosa, tai. Even the expressions: “Karay tai man bo.” “Gah, yede man se debo pensamyento.” “Si, etu ya el propheta.” “No lang. Si aqui se kumigo, ya palmaja ya yo se.” “Seguro. Si kwando keda blanco el uwak.” Parts of the human body: “Largu pututuy.” “Charat el naris.” “Agudu man gad se debo lenggua.” “Ta alsa man sehas?” “Kita daw bo se debo mano alyi.” “Yede man kachichas, llaba bo se debo pyes luego.” “Grande mama y buli.”
How do I know this? (Source) I grew up in Zamboanga and Basilan. A muslim with the blood of true native “filipino” and learned Chavacano by listening and communicating with childhood friends, classmates in elementary, highschool and college. Amu kel el maga jente ta avla: “basta Chavacano, pamaparon. Pero fuerte man sakyut y iccha laman.” 😂😅
That's de Filipino easy to adopt de lingwahe spaniol. Even up to this days the VISAYAS and MINDANAO and some of our words are Spanish. We say that we're not BISAYA our words are HALF SPANISH and HALF FILIPINO. ONO, DOS, TRES, KWATRO, SINGKO, SAIS, SYETI, OTSO, NUEBE, DYES, GWAPO/ GWAPA(GUAPA/O), AMEGO( BOY FRIEND) AMEGA( GIRL FRIEND) and more. And our grand parents can speak fluently in SPANISH. My grand grand parents are Spanish.
Lol. As a bisaya I don't understand Spanish and it's not accurate that half of bisaya are Spanish because I DON'T understand Spanish and being honest i don't understand and we have foriegn language subjects it was LATIN but me and my classmates still feel struggle to understand LATIN even though we have LATIN loanword and it's hard to speak like LATIN but we still learning it because it's our foriegn subject even it's difficult.
in bisaya which is the most spoken dialect more than tagalog,it has same numbers in spanish like uno dos,tres...when we had spanish class,we dont need to study the spanish numbers coz its same with bisaya
Imagine, if we had chosen to keep the Spanish language we could have been a tri-lingual nation: Filipino, English and Spanish. I have no complaints though. Being bi-lingual is already pretty good. 😊
That's how you waste + taxpayers money, wasteful government spending. What about Chinese? What about Japanese? What about ancient Tagalog language? What about Bisaya or Ilokano, Kapangpangan maybe Tausug?
Lols, Many Filipino College graduates can NOT even communicate (both written and oral) in correct English despite the fact that English. Is the medium of instruction!BringIng back Spanish as one of the required subjects in the curriculum would be a waste of time and money!
You know there are so many endangered and dying languages in the Philippines? Why should we learn Spanish when our own native languages themselves are disappearing? Maybe Chavacano speakers in Zamboanga can learn Spanish it’s not that far off.
@@k.3004 for the sake of smoother communication in the government and private businesses nationwide, it is necessary to have a neutral common language for Filipinos coming from different ethnolinguistic backgrounds, so Spanish fits the bill on this.
@@codelessunlimited7701 teaching any East Asian language over European language in the school system as a compulsory subject is tantamount of inviting neighboring East Asian countries annexing our country, whether in a direct and indirect manner.
