Coffee and caffeine are often thought of as energy-boosting substances? And indeed, immediately following caffeine consumption, you will feel a boost in energy. Yet, the story of how coffee relates to energy levels (and fatigue) is more complex than it seems on the surface. I'll give you a clue why I say this: Every day, thousands of people do Google searches with questions like "why does coffee make me sleepy?", "coffee makes me tired?", and "can coffee make you tired?"
The truth is that while coffee and caffeine give an immediate boost in energy, daily coffee consumption is slowly degrading your energy over time without you realizing it. And at the same time, it's making you dependent on coffee to function. Sound hard to believe? Get ready to explore the actual research! (Hint: If coffee were just an energy booster, there probably wouldn't be thousands of people using the internet every day trying to figure out why it seems to be making them sleepy or tired.) Get ready, because there are a lot of twists and turns to this story, and there is some shocking research that will likely shock and amaze you...
So what's the deal with coffee? What is really doing to your energy levels? And what is it doing to your overall health?
In this podcast, you'll learn:
• Why most people use coffee in ways that are counterproductive, hurting their mood, performance, and making them tired
• What it means when you get a caffeine crash
• Why coffee doesn't give you the boost that you think it is
• How you can use coffee to get the health benefits while keeping your energy levels high

Because you need to eat more, coffee makes your digestive system work faster, also the kidneys so if u pee more u lose more electrolytes, and u feel tired, if you don't wanna eat more drink fluids rich in electrolytes

Mr. James Cagney that’s because your vascular system narrows, coffee constricts blood vessels so if you have any pre existing heart disease, you drink coffee, your arteries constrict leading to lower blood flow and circulation which wears you out and makes you tired.

Thank God the voice of truth! It's exactly like you say, after longterm addiction to the stuff, you're fighting constantly to just get back to normal... all of life is about yoyo-ing 'energy'... (I feel I need energy, I haven't got the spirit, I need to make myself feel stronger first, more centred first, calmer first etc). All with another coffee to 'hit the spot'. Its not just the adenosine effects of coffee, coffee also messes with your adrenal system, dehydrated, burdens the liver like hell if you have a serious addiction, and shoots your nervous system to pieces. And it works together with other addictions...sugar, carbs, fats, cigarettes alchohol. For me, a lifelong addict, Life is about bad sleep and fighting feeling like crap from the second I wake up with yet another coffee. 5 days headache if I quit, and feeling so emotionally dead the day feels not worth living. I think for many years Coffee gives you the euphoria of achieving the impossible, and the pleasant numbness to your physical limitations. It's a great boost of moral, that maybe why it's proven to have health benefit: People are more active and engage more fully with life. But in actual fact it burdens your body after progres s ive overuse, to get that same hit, it worsens inflamation, destroys good sleep, creates constant tension with prolonged use ( like picking at your nails or teeth or the skin on your feet). Like this video says, the research hasn't really separated people who have not yet overused the drug, and get that pleasant boost at every level, good for many organs including the brain, or those with a full-on degenerative habit, where year by year coffee is making you feel worse and seriously harms your health, heart, nervous system. It is no different to sugar and carbohydrates... they can be a wonderful small treat in a healthy diet, that lift the spirit energy and wellbeing. But once you overuse, and keep over-indulging to get the same effect, and develop insulin resistance or pre/diabetes, they are very very harmful

Emir Redzic I think cutting out caffeine will contribute to your energy. But there are many other factors to consider: get enough sleep, reduce sensory devices and too much stimulation, reduce stress, make breaks, recharging rituals, eat good stuff, exercise and move, get fresh air and sun, practize gratitude. This is a good formula for getting your energy back. The caffeine disrupts your capacity to: 1. Get up 2. Slow down. This leads to less sleep = more stress = more inflammation = exhaustion = fatigue = more stress = less sleep = less energy, and so on.. Do you see how this is interconnected? Its not simple. Take little steps. Study and dont be to hard on yourself, take your time. God bless! Shalom.

@@emirredzic4527 yes it is true. I drank coffee all through my 20's & 30's & it always gave me a boost of energy. But when I got into my 40's, (which I am now), it stopped working. I could drink it all day long and feel nothing from it. In fact it started making me feel tired. I had to STOP drinking the coffee in order to feel better. But it took about 3 months. I can drink a 300mg Bang and it barely does anything for me. I am exhausted all day but still sleep like crap because of all the caffeine in my system. It is a vicious cycle. The story on coffee is interesting. The British realized it made workers perform better so the Brits made coffee affordable to everyone and it took off like crazy. Then people became addicted as planned and productivity doubled as well as thinking became sharper, people loved it. Now after abusing it for many decades we are feeling the effects and there are no health warnings to help us avoid becoming overtired. The young drink it like water knowing nothing of it's future effect on them. Best to explain to your kids the science of coffee to help them avoid the pitfall we ended up in. I would love to quit coffee and this video explains why, glad I watched it and the information will help me to get off the beverage.

Try fasting or intermittent fasting it will help stop your cravings for coffee. I taper off coffee last February. At first it's hard but in March my body adjusted. So now i only drink coffee once a week, sometimes every 2 weeks. I am no longer dependent on coffee. Instead of coffee, try fruits or vegetable blending, it's good to start your day. But be careful with sweet fruits, they're good sugar but they taste sweet. We don't want to be addicted to sweet stuff.

1. Interesting talk! 2. Great that you pop-up actual evidence-based articles from PubMed! (Although they could have been more recent...) 3. I'm missing the role of adenosine and caffeine in the context of circadian rythms a bit here 4. Great way to explain habituation as a pharmacological concept (more adenosine receptors, increase dose...basic 'junky' dynamics) 5. How about just taking smaller amounts of caffeine per day (the mild variant) to not drop your baseline that drastically? 6. Why not just drop the whole thing then and stay energized naturally, maybe then drink decaf every day... 7. Indeed, I confirm, as a non-chronic coffee drinker, the boost for me is HUGE if I do decide to get a cup. After 15 min I'm at about 75% of the hyper you get from a line of coke.

Then after a couple of months, I stopped for two weeks, and then I started back with just the chicory and dandelion tastes like coffee but zero caffeine also health benefits like the fiber Inulin that helps to control blood sugar. Unfortunately, people always feel coffee = caffeine , but has anyone considered a good decaffeinated coffee? I was a semi-pro coffee roaster and have had a long term love affair with coffee, but when I discovered that there are single estate naturally decaf coffees with excellent quality, I was able to enjoy coffee at times when caffeine would have negatively effected me. It bugs me that people always equate coffee with caffeine. Unlike the days of yesteryear, you can find very good tasting decafs today if you do some searching. And, before anyone says anything, yes I know that the decaf process might not get out 100% of the caffeine, but a almost all of it.

man I used to have a lot more energy before I discovered energy drinks and preworkouts. and that was only 3-4 years ago. I used to be religious about working out too because I had the energy but the caffeine eventually zapped all the energy out of me and the fatigue got me off track. 11 days ago I quit caffeine for good so I can get that natural consistent energy back but it's slow going. Now it takes me a good 5 hours literally to get out of bed. Dealing with withdrawal symptoms is a whole other beast.

@Max Payne I heard it takes a good 2-5 months to feel normal again and workouts will suffer in that time so I gots a long road ahead of me lol
@GetUnwoke
@GetUnwoke 3 года назад
@Max Payne Some people report not feeling 100% until 4 months. cocoa has a little caffeine and a ton of sugar in it so it's probably helping you with the withdrawals a lil bit but I'd be careful with having too much of it. I quit chocolate and all caffeine products and bought some Dandy Blend instead. It's nocaf and tastes like instant coffee. It helps get my mind off tea and coffee at least.
@GetUnwoke
@GetUnwoke 3 года назад
@Max Payne ah ok. Those are definitely withdrawal symptoms you're describing. Yeah, I prefer not to have decaf either. Dandy blend is no-caffeine herbal coffee. It's made of chicory and dandelion which is good for the health and it has the added benefit of tasting a bit like coffee. That's my new morning ritual lol

Given the research showing coffee (not just the caffeine) has a beneficial affect on preventing alzheimer's and other mental disorders, I'm curious if anyone has tried only doing a cup of decaf in the morning and nothing else. Wondering how that would effect energy levels since decaf isn't fully zero caffeine.

Did I get it right? Because of regular coffee intake from young age my brother drinks energy drinks (mostly when driving or working where isn't coffee maker) regularly but not quitting coffee he is 24/7 on stimulants and is not really getting benefit from either one? 🤔 Got answer for own why quitting some times makes difference with coffee. One day maybe this all sinks in and I don't go back to it anymore. 😅

I have consumed 200mgs of caffeine daily for over 40 years. Occasionally, I will take an extra 200mgs of caffeine in a day and I also take 1 or 2 days off caffeine each week. I have noticed over the years, I do get more jittery at times, but I don't get the crashes. I am also into Fitness, and I have worked out me entire life. I will stay on my caffeine, but good video! :-))

I have a question? on top of what caffine does to the brain isn't it also true its messes us adrenals especially with everyday dependency, Which causes fatigue.. So its a double whammy here?

Four days ago for a few weeks I drank about 12 cups of coffee a day. Since then, 0... I've slept most of the time since then and for at least 30 hours last time I woke up... I've now been awake for a few hours, researching about caffeine withdrawal. Thanks for this video, you have given me hope that if I just continue not drinking coffee I might somehow get back to a stage of normalcy where I can at least stay awake for more than a few hours...

I drink two cups in the morning and that´s it and I then feel great all day. I strictly forbid myself to increase( due to suspicion it´d impact my blood pressure negatively) or change my intake muster, So how come I feel so good all day long?

Maybe because you are consuming Less sugar. Sugar is one the culprit why we feel tired and sleepy.

But what about taking caffeine 1 1/2 to 2 hours after you wake up to allow your adenosine to naturally decrease?
@crockettstheme7560
@crockettstheme7560 5 лет назад
Great info. So if you're on caffeine consistently, you create more adenosine receptors. Does that also mean if you give caffeine a break, those adenosine receptors eventually disappear? Thanks

I did a little coffee fasting this week. I usually drink 2-4 cups of coffee and the first 2 days of fast were horrible. The mornings weren't so bad, but I couldn't focus on anything. In the afternoon, I was falling asleep. I couldn't anything. Even naps didn't work. There is also the psychological effect where such in a bad mood, mostly sadness but also overtly critical of myself. Day 3 is perfectly fine; I actually perform better than usual at the gym.
