I recently learned that Coffee can actually reduce blood flow to the brain (being the vasoconstrictor that it is) by up to around 30%. Im currently hammering out/correcting my sleep schedule (about to change shifts to accommodate) but until then ive been "co-supplementing" with cerebral flow boosters like Theanine, Ginkgo etc. To offset until I ratchet down my caffeine. Ill still enjoy my cold brew now and then...but there is no amount of mental gymnastics i can turn to make an excuse for essentially "needing" something Daily that is fairly detrimental to chasing optimal health.
Maybe you should read about the benefits for the liver, the key detoxifying and fat burning organ in the body before you suggest that. It's one of the most liver protective substances ever found and has been repeatedly confirmed in study after study. Anything that greatly enhances and protects the key detoxifying and fat burning organ in the body in an environment that increasingly introduces more and more toxins and foods that introduce more and more things that clog up fat burning potential of the liver by definition cannot be bad for your health.
@matterman2003 Brother I'm not sure if you're trying to convince me, or convince yourself there's nothing wrong with X amount of coffee/Caffeine consumption...but I've been supplementing & cross referencing studies on hundreds of nutritional subjects for like 2 decades now. First you have a clear amount of hyperbole in your statement, yes coffee seems to reduce liver fibrosis...but the extra exaggeration with words like "greatly..ever discovered" is infomercial-esque language designed to sell products. Just off the top of my head; herbs like Dandelion root or Milk Thistle, even simple MSM (organic sulfur) are FAR more beneficial to the liver. I'm not here to convince people of anything, there are a few papers out in the last year or so clearly showing a degree of detriment to the brains function from longterm consumption. But to each their own.
I buy only organic decaf Swiss water process no chemical coffee ! It has so little caffeine being decaf and it tastes amazing ! Mount Hagen organic decaf ! Two small cups a day only . No sugar or junk added to it just a little organic half n half
Dont really drink coffee to keep me awake but just enjoy the process of making an espresso and the taste. So decaf or even half caf has been working well for me!
Cold Brew Decaf here lol, even before i ever starting drinking coffee. I absolutely LOVE the smell in the morning, and I've found a few brands that make some delicious grounds that I brew overnight =]
I started decaf with mushroom adaptogens in the am and full strength quad espresso mid day. My stress level is noticeably different. I’m in great health and sleep great. Don’t need am caffeine
I take in about 500mg before lunch (about two cups of coffee), then nothing more after about 11:00 AM. I don't feel any downside and have good energy most of the time. I've been sleeping okay, too.
I don't get the jitters at all. It's happened maybe twice in my life, and not in a long time. Quite frankly, I don't even feel pumped by caffeine. I've had the caffeine headaches before, but it's relatively easy for me to avoid them. Thus, my drink of choice has been and remains tea, and I have 1-to-3 cups of coffee a day. FWIW, I generally drink a lot of tea, but I've cut back on all caffeine before, quite easily. It's much easier than just going cold turkey. PS: If you choose to abstain from caffeine on an extended fast, I'd be willing to bet a complete reset in 5-to-7 days, giving the cleansing nature of a fast.
Duuude. I stopped regularly having caffeinated coffee 24 years ago. Since then, I have a decaf iced coffees daily (love the taste) but only have regular coffee when I need to be hyped up a little. Works great. And it only takes like, one espresso, to get me in that state. Highly recommend.
I love coffee in the morning and I measure exactly 1/4 cup of whole beans to grind when I make my coffee with a French Press and blend with sea salt, stevia and MCT oil. However, I make sure to skip a few days each month to make sure I'm not dependent on it like a drug.
Why do we have to worry or try and be "perfect" with EVERY SINGLE FREAKI G LITTLE ASPECT/THING that we do? Why can't we just ENJOY something/ONE thing WITHOUT analyzing it, or trying to do/use it in the exact supposedly "best" possible way? Is it honestly going to make ALL that much if a difference in the overall grand scheme, or big picture? Again the STRESS of worrying/trying to do EVERY SINGLE LITTLE MINISCULE ASPECT of our daily lives as "perfectly" as we possibly can will likely cause far more damage and issues than whatever it is we're worried about likely ever will/would. Why can't we just enjoy our cups of coffee/tea, etc without having to stress, or over analyze things? 🙄
Word. Same with Food. And Training. Be active. Do all in Moderation and be aware about all the really Bad things for your Body. Balance is key. But Enjoy Life and have fun
@ludwigstenberg1050 That's exactly what I'm saying. Why can't we just do that instead of having to, or trying to over analyze/think about HOW we can do everything "perfectly" or "optimally"? I get it's about creating content, but I'm sure there are plenty of subjects/topics to choose from that are likely far more significant/less nitpicky than worrying about drinking 1 or 2 extra cups of coffee. 🙄 But maybe it's just me.
@kapuzineraffe88 Exactly. This may sound rather frivolous but I basically use the mindset/philosophy concerning "bad" foods, etc of - Make them ONCE IN A BLUE MOON EXCEPTIONS RATHER THAN REGULARLY OCCURRING RULES. Especially if we've already changed our former habits or lifestyle into a more focused, healthy, and disciplined one.
Still no numbers! With moderate consumption, the perceived possible problems are negligible! Up and down "like a rollercoaster", but within an unspecified RANGE, means you don't know the height of the coaster's hills. In our experience rollercoasters have impressive intimidating hill heights, so we imagine this unspecified range to be great, when it may well be so small as to be negligible--too small to be meaningful.
Why does caffeine give me headaches if I only have it once every few months? I'm not addicted to it soI shouldnt be experiencing these headaches if there is nothing to have a withdrawal reaction from. Unless its not a withdrawal headache, its something else?
i got addicted 5 years ago to caffeine. Now taking 300mg daily. I know it’s good for me - to get rid of it, but in that case I’ll have to take vocation for about 6 months or so, to overcome that zombie mood while caffeine off. Just can’t afford it. thanks for sharing your way of “decaffing” , Thomas. I’ll try this
Been there stepanmc, one curve to help is getting on the plain old hot water and some🍋. The hot beverage part truly starts awakening, the lite acid vitaC introduction is goood. Learned this from a 78 yr indian fella that i used to work with at an Automotive shop in college. Hot/hot-warm water on a empty stomack, so u can drink it down in couple mins. Then checking out herbal teas too, best to you with cutting down that addiction/ dependency. You can DO IT DUDE.☕️
Are u drinking that sweet cup of Joe black?? Do u consume coffee first thing or with your morning with breakfast and make it lasst. Just curious 🤔.. I been there, I've tried mud/ water, drop some mct coco oil in there, real cacao, cinnamon and I whip/mix it goood... ( Best to you with your daycare and everything ;)
I personally drink Cold Brew DECAF Coffee. I've noticed when I drink Caffeinated Coffee that I do sometimes get the jitters and have also had increased Anxiety (I already have generalized Anxiety) so I have no problem drinking coffee while stay away from the Caffeine. My largest battle is trying to cut Soda out of my life (mainly Coca Cola) because it's been something I drink daily for the last like 25 years. Now if I can get rid of the soda, then the only source of Caffeine I'm getting is what? black and green tea? which is such a small amount, I get more awake simply by going out back and soaking up the sun before I leave for work or roll my windows down on my drive and also soak in the sun without my sunglasses on. Getting hit with that light really gets me to be energized. Thankfully I live in Southern California too, so we get a lot of sun =]
Onto my second cup of blk joe this morning ! haha I have cut back tho. Hydrating more with electrolytes and filtered H2O instead of coffee nowadays. Gr8 work YOU!!
This video came as quite the coincidence. I just had a morning decaf for the routine and later on a 50/50 decaf. I'll have another 50/50 before workout. Less than once a month I'll chew a piece of nicotine gum at the gym. Nicotine gets a bad rap but has its benefits.
Lol my method for leveraging caffeine is by adding espresso or caffeine powder to my coffee. Pretty much drink 2-3 cups of coffee daily, but some days that is around 1000 mg of caffeine, other days it’s 3-400. Probably not ideal but better than when I was doing 3000-4000mg a day
What about dopamine and decaf. I drink decaf because it helps me sleep better. If I don't drink it, it doesn't improve my sleep so I figure, why not. I use a little stevia and a little cream, btw.
Instead of coffe, drink hot cacao. Much lower caffein and the theobromine in cacao also has great health benefits. Just remember to make it sugar free.
I think there is something special about “coffee caffeine “ that has an effect on people and especially ones that have anxiety, depression etc. it’s like no other sources provide remotely similar beneficial effects.
Kidney stones , prostate problems , gout and arthritis . No more coffee for me ! Matcha tea seems to be the only thing to drink for me not to have the negative effects of caffeine .
If the science says caffeine can increase alertness, well-being, help concentration, improve mood, that’s good enough for me to continue my 1.5 cups of coffee per day. And at my age, I’ll take my dopamine any way I can. Besides, the more you see the world through rose-colored glasses, the better to manifest your dreams, and before you know it those hypothetical $100 bills become a reality.
It does have those benefits, but after awhile you build tolerance to that amount. That's why Thomas mentions having it every other day, it gives the brain a break and will increase the effectiveness of the caffeine.
I recently purchased a pound of ground French Chicory. I now make my coffee with Chicory. The chicory in my first cup of coffee is equal in volume to 1/2 of the coffee grounds. Now my first cup of coffee is my only cup of coffee. Before I added chicory, I usually drank 3 or even 4 cups of coffee in the morning. I no longer want more than my first cup. I have no idea why.
Been taking coffee every morning and I really dont feel any bad effects. I'm also taking Dihexa or Bromantane from Swisschems to boost my mental endurance, focus and concentration through out the day.
I never drank coffee until about 4 years ago after I had my daughter. Now I’m a full blown addict! Worst thing is though I also have panic disorder and the caffeine makes the symptoms worse! I’m trying to kick the habit just based on that. I’ve tried before several times and failed though 😞
already been doing this caffeine EOD experiment for over a year. working well until now. lethargic on off days, but extra productive on caffeine days. sensitivity has also remained unchanged.
My sweet spot is caffeine during the week, no caffeine for the weekend and those two days off seem to keep the sensitivity high and I don’t get withdrawals at all every now and then when I go 4-5 days
It's worth just deferring your morning coffee for a couple of hours after you wake up to make sure your brain clears all the adenosine, that way you avoid an afternoon crash.
why does no one ever talk about just drinking Decaf tho? I mean if people love their Coffee, drink Decaf. It's got like 3% the amount of Caffeine. Shouldn't make yourself rely upon a stimulant to "wake up" or "stay awake."
You haven't had proper good decaf. They are out there. Decaf for 24 years here. Try Caffe Fresco in Pennsylvania. Small artisan roaster. EXCELLENT decaf.@@CSFlock
@@CSFlock you have to find water washed decaf. Most companies just add a chemical that makes the caffeine inactive. Lord only knows what the chemicals are. It will say on the label if it’s water washed.
I already cut my coffee down to two 1/2 cups per week plus maybe a cup of afternoon decaf. I used to drink 5-6 cups of caffeinated coffee per day. I feel better off the caffeine, I was getting a lot of anxiety.
I detoxed from caffeine, for the first time in my life of 45 years, this summer, and I'll tell you i have never been so tired in my whole life. My Qi gong teacher calls it the Chi Credit Card. Adrenal fatigue is real. Quitting took 3 days and a lot of migraine & vomiting. I hope never to get trapped in that terror pit again.. Back to coffee, but only decaf. I benefit from the digestive help.
Cold turkey can come with many side effects. Tried cold and didn’t succeed. Then I set up a four month weaning program and it worked with no side effects.
I just started drinking green tea today so I can ween off the coffee 😂 I know there's caffeine in it as well...baby steps. Thank you for the info Thomas.
Coffee is just like smoking. When you're addicted you enjoy the taste and smell, but when you quit that addiction it doesn't smell nice at all. Coffee smells gross now.
I’ve said this before on all your other videos on coffee. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, and I don’t eat garbage. I also partake in the supplements and advice on this channel, but I’ll be dammed if I’m giving up coffee. You gotta have one thing you love still that’s bad for you.
Most of the time I visit casinos and they have free coffee, I go for the decaf style. Because I may now and then get a different caffeine drink later on. Getting the hot drink in the body helps burn more.
So many cultures drink coffee, in Italy they have their espresso In Ethiopia they have traditional coffee socials and both of these cultures seem “healthier” on the whole We seem to make everything so complicated with diet here in the U.S. and clearly it’s not helping with the obesity rate close to 40%
Coffee is the most addictive thing I've ever encountered. Quitting smoking was much much easier and I smoked 2 packs a day for 20years. Have been experiencing a lot of trouble with stopping the stuff. 😢
Ive been drinking green tea for several months. A week ago my sister who drinks coffee came for a visit for a week. I switched and drank two cups of coffee every day. Yesterday after she went home, i had a nosebleed. I didnt think anything about it until this morning. I drank one cup of water before work and almost immediately i got a nosebleed. Went on to work but it came on again. I had to go home. Upshot is i dont think i can tolerate caffeine anymore.
I’m writing this before I listen based on the title. I’m not about to give up the cup of coffee that I occasionally enjoy. That would be 16 oz of half caff at the most once a week sometimes I will go more than month. I have CKD and not sure if it is ok for kidneys some experts say yay and some say nay. I enjoy the acquired taste. Decaf coffee is not appealing to me due to the mud in the bottom of the cup
I was concerned about coffee ☕️ my Dr. advised it’s perfectly healthy to have up to 3 cups per day or 400mg. of caffeine 🤔 I’m going to try your strategy of every other day 😁🙌🏻
It's funny... I always thought I was addicted to coffee, but it really was just the "ritual" of going to work and bringing a cup to the desk, before I started working. But during lockdown, I never 'went' to work, and so I noticed that I actually never drank coffee at home, and I didn't even miss it.
Best part of giving up coffee is to not be beholding to the morning ritual of getting that cup of coffee. The expense and gaining some real estate on my kitchen counter top. I weaned over four months after trying cold turkey and falling. No side effects by taking it slow. Coffee can also have mold in it. Ewww. 😂. I also find my energy level no longer takes an afternoon dip. Energy is steady all day.
50 mg of caffeine bro? Lol I literally can drink that when I wake up to take a piss and go right back to sleep no problem. When you said “think of a baseline amount of caffeine for yourself” I literally thought “400mg”
Every addict's wet dream is to control his/her addiction........just sayin' (opinion) My point is we would not be addicts if we had complete control......None of us have complete control over ANYTHING actually. (my opinion)
Many times, when you feel the urge for caffeine in the morning or afternoon to boost your energy, it's possible that all you really need is proper hydration. Start your day by drinking 8 to 16 ounces of water as part of your morning routine, and you might find that you don't even require caffeine.
I don't drink coffee anymore, but I still get some caffeine from my time released green tea that I take, in any case, the first 2 weeks were horrendous without my usual 300 mg of caffeine, but after that, I never needed caffeine anymore, and now I fell better without it
The most-common methods of decaffeination involve chemical solvents, usually ethyl acetate or methylene chloride. ~ Just saying, decaf is not the answer. 😂
I find I need caffeine pills to get thru days where my job has me doing nothing and sitting on my ass all day. If I am up, moving, and using my head... no caffeine needed.
