Just for reference guys. The phrases you've quoted are simply idiomatic expressions, fixed in the language over centuries. They simply a verbal expression of different emotions like joy, disappointment, displeasure, etc. The fact of saying them has absolutely nothing to do with whether people are Atheists, Agnostics or follow some brand of Christian belief.

This is very interesting because I've eaten pork for 40 years .some religious people will tell that pork is forbidden but , that makes no sense to me especially when times have changed and they have grass feed pigs now and, refrigerators. People should allow doctrines to override come senses.
Actually Einstein didn't believe in a god. He himself said theists were taking him out of context and if you were to label his beliefs he would consider himself an atheist. Otherwise good show.

I am not sure if you can interpolate from my personal case onto some general case. I just had some very unique experience that dislocated rearranged my perception.
Sigh...Robin, Einstein did not believe in God. He made it abundantly clear, over and over again, that his use of the word was purely materialistic and metaphorical. When Christians fabricated a confession in his name, he repudiated it. Einstein was an atheist, so it is not just misinformed to bring him up to support your claim to believe in God; it is morally wrong.
Interesting, esoteric and brings about an array of questions. Does soul have mass, charge, polarity or any other measurable characteristics? Were they produced at some point of time or were they forever just sort of hanging in the outer space waiting to be engaged? Are there a final number of them or a new one produced every time a new person is born. Are we the only species who deserve leasing them or were using only some local subset? What is the purpose of this process and is there one?

@famouswwefan He was born an ethnic Jew and may have been raised to believe in Judaism, as most children born to Jewish families are. He was NOT a practicing religious Jew as an adult. There is no question of this. Even the quotes taken out of context to make him look like a deist say nothing of religion.

@stravos11 Surely Howard doesn’t speak about Christianity. There are 3 main varieties of Jewish religious conduct: Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed. As far as I know, unlike Orthodox and Roman Catholic, where the difference is theological and philosophical, the difference in Jewish denominations is in how literally the Old Testament should be taken.
to be fair, Robin may have read about Einstein's beliefs about God secondhand through someone who "interpreted" those beliefs as being theistic. i can understand where Howard is coming from and i can tell some stories about being raised Roman Catholic. i do believe in God, but I have doubts about the Church and religion in general (like Howard does about Judaism and religion in general).
it's almost accurate, as far as I'm concerned, and I also approve because Robin's phrasing makes it a bit too vindictive and can muddle the complexity of what people like Einstein really think on the matter.
I'm a Catholic and I agree with stern and how his daughters are; that describes me. I'm not trying to convert the world, I'm not worried about ending up in a fiery pit but I do use a lot of the wisdom from the stories. Whether it's the Israelites in the desert or Cain and Abel, the stories aren't meant to be literal, but they convey .. idk how life works. I think God presented himself in different forms to different people as they needed it at that time - that's why so many religions have basically the same lessons. No need to crucify gays or make women wear shawls but the idea that there is a "God like" ideal I can strive for is nice. The Bible is really interesting when you can read it correctly.
Where I live in Brooklyn there's a lot of Hasidic Jew and one summer in the middle of July it was hot and humid in the mid 90s and over a dozen Jews were playing softball all dressed in those thick black clothes they were , the big black hat, heavy jacket, plus all that other stuff they where. I had Short's and a tank top on and I was sweating. Just seeing Jews play a sports in it self was funny, but with all those clothes on wow 😱

Some of the oldest african tribes have been found to be from the 12 lost tribes of Isreal. And they are not as fanatic as the Orthodox acidic jews. I agree with Black that I do admire the jewish commitment to G_d.
When he's saying Orthodox is he refering to some sort of orthodox Jewish beliefs? Cuz christian orthodoxy is nothing like that. In many cases we're more "flexible" for example priests can marry/have sex , in fact they are expected to ( by "we" I'm refering to 80% of the people in my country)

einstein was a physicist. so that would suggest any avasion to "god", would've been refering to A conscious creator of a perceptional reality. not any of man's gods, religious etc..
Einstein definitely was not an atheist and definitely not a practicing jew, some atheist love to claim he's an atheist to support their stupid argument, being an atheist doesn't mean you're smart, it's blind belief like Hinduism or trinitarian Christianity . Einstein clarified however that, "I am not an atheist", preferring to call himself an agnostic, or a "religious non-believer. Atheists epic fail is when they put words in scientists mouth, when a jew says am agnostic instead atheist, he's non a practicing jew, basically he believes in god but doesn't he practice the religion, some idiot would claim Isaac Newton would be an atheist if he was living with us today, arrogance is one the characteristics of a stupid person, that's why some atheists no longer claim to be agnostics instead because atheism in itself is a belief

@mannyamaya Got it. There is a big difference between practicing a specific religion and believing that our Universe is intelligently created. I think many people would fall under that later umbrella, including, perhaps, Einstein. I, for instance, came from an atheistic background, but had an experience that made me sort of wonder. I even made a vid about it. It’s calls “How I found God through algebra”
the bibles says: God has placed eternity in our hearts. somewhere deep inside us, we know there's something after this life. howard stern tries to deny, but he can't... its that eternity in his heart.
"God does not play dice with the universe" sounds like a figure of speech to me. Not that it really matters though. Einstein was a very smart man but not infallable. What he believed proves or disproves nothing about the existance of god. Because god does not reveal himself to us we must conclude either he does not exist or he is invisable. If invisable, why? I agree with you though that extreme atheists can sometimes be as bad as extreme theists at trying to push their beliefs onto others.
I don't have to read about the concept of a personal god, all I have to do is read about his idea of a god. And he clearly said that he did not believe in a creator, that has put us into this universe and has given us moral guidance and rules. You said he believed in a creator. That is simply untrue. And if you are not ignorant on this issue, then you are simply dishonest. I don't indentify him solely as an agnostig or atheist. But on those positions alone, those words can be used.

There was no theological discussion. Something you can't seem to get into your dense head. You tried to divert the subject zigzaging between definitions. And I already told you how that didn't matter. All that matters is what Einstein's definitions of those words were. You said he kept using the word God, but you didn't say that he had his own personal definition for that word. Which did not entail a creator. A deity that made this universe. He had no positive or negative opinion on that.
Really. I thought he gave a very clear answer. Fred is agnostic, a person who believes that the answer on whether God exists or not is unattainable. Fred admitted the existence of some super intelligence out there. However, should it exist, it won't be a God of the Old Testament - angry guy in the sky or God of the New Testament - happy guy in the sky. In other words, Fred doesn't deny existence of God, but he denies religions perception of what God is. Cheers
No he didn't. You should bother reading what he actually said about his idea of a god before you do the exact same thing that you accuse atheists of doing, "listing Einsteing among their ranks." It is perfectly fine to put Einstein in the agnostic-atheist category. He did say that the idea of a personal god is not something he could take seriously. He did not believe in a creator, the way you put it.
