You should also factor in that owning an EV is way, way cheaper than gas. I charge up my EV at home once or twice each week for about $7 each time. And there is virtually no maintenane. So a buyer should consider that part. Also, EVs are just way faster, quieter and super fun to drive.

@MrProy33
@MrProy33 2 месяца назад
Except the sticker price offsets any gas savings, and the first time you take a long trip in one you lose all savings. Plus, your higher insurance and specialized tires offset the savings. Then, the lack of resell value means you pay more out of pocket for your next car. It's a cycle of loss when you put it on paper. We looked into an EV, but after 10 years we found it would have lost us between $6,000-9,000 compared to a solid ICE engine, all things considered. Hell, one trip to disneyland would have wiped out almost a years' worth of savings, on charging and the extra hotel night needed to accommodate the charging network and higher charging costs! We travel quite a bit, so the writing was clear We spent $26k, out the door, on a mazda cx5, and would gkadly buy another one as a city traveller/vacation car. It's never needed service, at all, beyond $26 oil changes and tires. I am doing a brake job on her next weekend, but my total cist will be less than $100. My insurance is a little less than $70/month, which is half or less of what EV rates go for. And they aren't fun to drive because there's no gear shifting. There's no feel for the road. There's no engine hum, no feel at all. It's bland and boring, straight line acceleration, with no handling due to the obscene battery weight. Pkus, using the speed drains the battery too quickly and wears down battery longevity... combined with our crappy roads everywhere, you never see EV drivers using the speed. It's too dangerous and stupid under 99% of normal conditions.

As they sell more EVs, the price will come down. As the tech improves, the price will come down. As charging infrastructre expands/becomes reliable, the price will come down. - I own an electric motorcycle. It's VASTLY superior to the gas motorcycles I've owned in the past. EXCEPT for range and charging times. Which are two BIG items. For my commuting needs, they don't affect me at all. In 10-15 years, they'll have solved the charging and range issues. No one in their right mind will ever by a gas motorcycle after that. I mean, my electric motorycle is 7 years old now. In those seven years I've put on one new set of tires, and replaced the brake fluid once. No air filters, no timing belt, no spart plugs, no oil changes. The bike doesn't wake my neighbors up in the morning when I go do work. Around town, I don't have to wear earplugs. I can hear cars coming up from behind me. The bike doesn't get hot while stopped at a red light. Not having to shift while in-town stop and go traffic is a dream. The bike doesn't stink up my garage with gas and oil fumes. - Thing is, I may never have to buy another motorcycle. My current electric one should last my lifetime. Same can be said for an EV car. Sure, you'll lose "some" battery capacity over time. But there's no reason you shouldn't be able to keep one for 30-40 years (or longer).

That’s all you need to know really why demand is dropping like a rock. Word of mouth. If a product does not make MYLIFE BETTER I will not buy it. EV' do not require a charging station just a 110 or 220 outlet . Almost every building in the USA has a 110 and 220 outlet (aka a "level-2" charging). About 25% of cars could easily be replaced by EV's. The conversion to EV's is not really aimed at private vehicles. The aim is to replace industrial, fleet,, agriculture, and freight vehicles. There will never be force. For decades there will be exceptions (for work, emergencies, collectors, research, hardship, etc), plug-in/hybrids, used vehicles, out of state vehicles, other alternative fuels, etc. So, if a EV isn't for you, you will still have your combustion-only vehicle. Please do not worry about a multi-decade government plan. Long term government plans rarely are on-time, or go un-modified. Right?

There are only two ways to owning EVs, while protecting from depreciation. Buy it new, keep it as long as you can, with good maintenance and charging discipline. Should last atleast 3x of an ICE vehicle. Another is to lease an EV and reduce loss on depreciation. Used EV sales seems to be artificially boosted, as a low cost option. There is certain unknown risks involved, and could result in high maintenance costs due to premature failure. Buy used only from known parties, that cared for the EV, and selling due to upgrade. Just some suggestions. Now some of the benefits of EV:They retain performance exactly same as you bought them, after 100k miles, with almost no maintenance, just with a few percent less battery capacity. Like toys, batteries can be replaced, there is a lot of used/almost new vehicles that go out of service for vaious reasons, so if you diy, you can change batteries yourself, at fraction of cost. They can even be repaired, to remove few failed cells. But this applies only to non-structural battery packs. Also new LFP batteries will outlast the mechanical/body parts of car itself. If you can install solar roof yourself, just for EV charging(non grid-tie), you will never need to pay for your electricity used for charging. Switched to EV(2 and counting) 4yrs ago and never going back to ICE(except for adiy high maintenance diesel of early 2000, just as a backup). EVs are not no maintenance, except for engine oil. But tolerate longer intervals. If you are frugal, never want to visit a mechanic shop, EV is the way to go!.

And for course less $$$.. Hence why companies are now pushing hybrids so hard which according to Bosch is actually the most expensive and least durable option according to their rep when interviewed last week by Autoline, the automotive industry channel. Gee I wonder why they'd push inferior technology? It's not like that's in their economic interests or nothing... ;-)

anyone who isnt lame and are not rich dont want ev. ev is durable? hahha, they are less reliable than ICE cars also battery is designed to last what factory wants under 12 years if battery is programmed to last 8 years, open your checkbook for 20k

just battery of an ev is two times or more more expensive than engine, transmission, exhaust system on ICE cars. ev is good for companies because its easier to build but devasting to poor who has to replace battery

Battery needs energy, chemical reaction, to produce energy. The reason it will always have a lower energy density than diesel and benzine. Diesel/Benzine have strong molecular bonds all it needs is air/ignition spark/compression not relying on the energy of diesel/benzine. Yes it is less efficient but the energy density is so high it will go further than any battery that’s been or will be designed. Imagine a hybrid with 100 mile range like what BYD has? Hybrid is the future.

@@whimsicalhamster88 exxon is behind renewables, stop oil protest, so they can make more profit, from govt subsidies, customers signing up to renewable, customers going back to oil, after disappointment, gas prices going up due to more restriction on oil making more money to exxon. its all profit for exxon, thats why their profit has increased 250% since 201i9

EV prices started very high because they are so new to the market. Just like anything else. The price will plunge as they figure out how to build them cheaper. Chinese auto makers finally figured that out. You can buy an EV sedan as cheap as 10,000 dollars. Tesla model 3 and Y are just as cheap as the gasoline powered cars in 2024. EVs are much cheaper to build than the ICE vehicles. It's a matter of time before all cars will be EV.
