I had that same experience in 1964 and I know what you are saying about the colors of the ballpark. Also remember that in 1964 we didn't have color TV yet so up until then I had only seen Fenway in black and white on TV. Often times when I'm at Fenway I go out to the bleachers and walk up the same tunnel so I can repeat the experience.

Incorrect. Before the Henry group updated purchased and continually updated it, it was a dump that many people would have been glad to see gone. I went to the stadium in SF in '04, before the World Series and renovations started. It was incredible and Boston had a chance for something very similar if the Boston City Council weren't a bunch of greedy weasels. Fenway should've been replaced. Granted, what it is now is a trillion times better than in '04, but half of the stadium is full of tiny, garbage seats. If they replaced it 20 years from now, i would not shed a tear. I tell people all the time, if you've never been, go at least once. But if i go to a few every 3-4 years, that's more than normal.

@@CatholicTraditional That was one iteration that was quickly shot down. There were others. The waterfront park had more force behind it since the Patriots also wanted to move in there. Fenway Park works because it harkens back to an earlier time in our history when baseball really took off and became our national pastime. Going to a game at Fenway its almost like going back in time in a way, you get the feeling of all those years and experiences and history when you get inside the gates, from the small of the grilled onions to the hardcore Boston accents, theres just something incredibly special about Fenway Park and the Sox. As a lifelong New Englander and Sox fan, theres just really nothing else like it that comes to mind. Every time I watch Field of Dreams, I cant help but think that the character played by James Earl Jones was talking about Fenway Park, "They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again."

In a cookIe-cutter world, people appreciate the unique, and it becomes a Cathedral for fans the world over. Yes, the winning helps, but I hope it can live on. I like your channel and videos, but this one seems incomplete. It’s a well-made video production-wise and in what it says. But if I didn’t already know a lot about Fenway Park, I’d be left with a lot of questions here, like: What is a jewel box park? What is the green monster? What is the pesky pole? What’s this “triangle”? None of these were defined or explained why they’re unique, just that they are-whatever they are. They were listed as special features in the introduction, but then just listed again later in the video. I think this should be a 5-6 minute video with more details and stats for nerds like the height of the green monster, when seats were added to the top of it, the distance from home plate to the Pesky Pole, the addition of seats to the triangle, the additions of the outfield bullpens, and a mention of the seat in right field where Ted Williams hit such a long home run to. Anyways, just offering some constructive criticism

Fenway won’t last forever, but it’s hard to imagine ever being able to build a new park in the city of Boston. My guess is that if the day ever comes that Fenway goes away, the Sox will move to the western suburbs. They have done a lot with the place though. They projected was killed because local politicians wanted to get their beaks wet and new ownership would not play ball. And they drummed up resistance by the local Fenway merchants to stall any move. It was botched. New ownership wanted a new ballpark. Since they could not get their way, they pushed the independent vendors out of the old Yawkey Way ( now Jersey Street ) to ensure they would grab the concession revenue by collecting rent. I've seen a total of three games at Fenway and ended up with an obstructed view (pole) every time. It is a wonderful stadium (I've seen Major League regular season games in 57 ballparks) but sadly, I cannot put it at the top of my list of favorites.

Just move to a nearby seat. There are usually some empty seats here and there and they don't mind if you move. And if the owner of the seat shows up after the game starts just move again. Another trick is when you buy grandstand tickets try to buy one with a low row number and a middle seat number. For example Row 3, Seat 9 is way down in front and under the edge of the overhang and in the middle of a row so it will not be behind a pole while Row 25, Seat 20 is way up in back and at the end of the row so it will very likely be obstructed view.

The one thing that lacks when it comes to Fenway is those big events. For example, I went to the MLB all-star game in DC. I can't imagine Fenway hosting an ASG again because of its size but other than that I love Fenway.
@jdhjimbo
@jdhjimbo 3 года назад
They hosted one not that long ago, and Ted Williams was feted. The ASG does not make its money from ticket sales, and many of the newer parks do not hold much more than Fenway. However, if MLB plays Woke politics, it will not matter, as fans will abandon it like they did this year. I did not watch 1 pitch, or the HR Derby.

Jim, I was at both the ASG and Homerun derby this year, both events were packed and rocking! I don’t think many fans abandoned the festivities. I get you have to defend your principles, but I think you’re in the extreme minority.
@jdhjimbo
@jdhjimbo 3 года назад
@@anthonyfink8650 Since the ASG only comes to any one city, I am not surprised that it was well-attended, and baseball has not been in Denver long, so this would have only been its 2nd ASG. However, the TV ratings from across the country, tell a different story. MLB proposes one thing, but the players and a majority of the fans do not support it. It's Wokeness is driving fans away. Then add the stupid Covid Cult theatrics, and attendance is pretty pathetic - even in big baseball towns. It is a recipe for disaster. I am not an NBA fan, but their ratings for the Finals were the worst in modern history, so I doubt my opinions are an extreme minority. Sports fans do NOT want politics with their sports - especially with a demented dunce like Joebama supposedly "in charge".

Fenway is great unless you’re one of the poor souls who got a ticket with an obstructed view. I’d say about 35% of the seats have a badly obstructed view. I don’t know if it’s physically possible to renovate/redesign the park to fix that, but I think even if it cost them a billion dollars and had to shut the park down for a few years and play somewhere else it would be worth it

As much as I love Fenway I've grown to love Polar Park even more. Been to five games this year and they have all been great experiences. Plus its a beautiful state of the art ball park you can't beat the prices tickets, beers, food etc.

Polar Park is awful! How much did the city and state give a billionaire to create a ballpark that looks like an Amazon warehouse plopped in a rundown neighborhood. Kelley Square was better before when Wyman Gordon still existed. Plus, that Canal District is still the same nothing burger it was back in the 1990’s when it was being hailed as “up and coming fabulous!”
@willisapril
@willisapril 2 года назад
@@kenc1000 lol . Well I'm not sure what you've been smoking but Polar Park is beautiful in fact it was the same architect as Camden Yards in Baltimore. The City of Worcester owns Polar Park so I have no idea who this billionaire is your talking about. And The who Canal District is nice nowadays, Great Restaurants/bars, New Public Market place, new Kelly Square rotary. Get your facts straight!
@kenc1000
@kenc1000 2 года назад
@@willisapril Friend, I’m sorry I made you defensive. That was not my intent. I do, however, stand by my original statement. I’m well aware of who designed Polar Park which makes the ballpark all that much more disappointing. Camden Yards will (and is) age well to becoming a great park similar to the jewel box ball parks left standing today (Fenway and Wrigley). Polar Park, in contrast, looks cheap and even after just a year is already starting to look dated. Plus, the amenities are a bit of a disappointment. I truly fail to understand that gravel they used on the deck and what is with that awful look to the left field wall where a Green Monster replica should be? In addition, I can’t say enough about how cheap the plastic seats are…PLASTIC for goodness sake. Also, the new rotary did nothing to enhance Kelley Square accept to maybe make it easier for cars to go round and round, but it certainly did nothing to enhance the pedestrian experience that’s for sure. And in my view, Water Street (the Canal District) never lived up to it’s full potential. All you really need to know about what a disappointment it’s been over the past 30 years is to talk to anyone who in line at the best establishment on the street, Weintraub’s Jewish Deli…..oh, wait.

@willisapril 2 года назад
@@kenc1000 Not defensive at all friend but I can't help but laugh at your reply. I am a silent partner and numerous businesses in the Canal District and am now a multi millionaire thanks to all this redevelopment and Kelly Square and the area looks nice as it was an eyesore for many years there will be better pedestrian access to come as they are still not even close to be done it the area. And you can do better than complain about plastic seats.
