The Gibdo in this game aren't like the Gibdo in OoT or MM, and they're not like the ReDeads throughout the series: they're not zombies. The Sheikah monks are more in line with the classic ReDeads. These Gibdo are just bugs that _look_ like humans; likely an adaptation to help them hunt. Likewise, the Gibdo hives only resemble mushrooms; in actuality, they're made of sand, and are just cells built to grow her larvae - similar to the nest of a wasp, in particular a mud dauber wasp.

It was right under our noses the entire time! Ganondorf's power... ...is that he's on shrooms!

Unfortunately, the Gibdos seem to have a very commonplace weakness that pretty much confines them to the sand shrouded desert: light. Whether it's direct sunlight or a lamp glued to your shield, light swiftly debilitates them.

Redeads are discount Gibdo. Gibdo are from Zelda 1.

I think that since you see them in jail cells in Gerudo ruins, they are the revived corpses of people punished by the Gerudo and are allying with Ganondorf to destroy the Gerudo and the rest of Hyrule

Interesting interpretation of the gibdo. I never really saw them as mushrooms based monsters but rather some type of bug monster because of them having so many insect like features like mandibles, wings, antenna and a queen. I just thought the hive looking like a mushrooms was a stylistic choice.

I like the idea, but I don't think there's any evidence that the Gibdos spread via spores or that they can infect living people, plus you're kind of ignoring the fact that the Gibdo Queen is a giant insect. On the surface, Gibdos in this game are bug monsters. But if you dig a little deeper, there are references at least implying that they're a sort of living dead. So my headcanon is that the Queen's larvae inhabit and transform inside humanoid corpses. The mushroom shape of the gibdo nests is just an aesthetic coincidence.

Honestly, tbis is kinda a stretch but maybe Death Mountain no longer erupting and spewing hot lava in TOTK was maybe something nore as well. Since the Gibdo are weak to fire and given that the place was so hot in BOTW that anyone not protected would burst into flames. Likewise, maybe the deathly blizzard in the Hebra Region was also more than meets the eye since i believe the Gibdo are frost resistant. I don't know exactly how the polluted water in the Lanayru area ties into this but I'm sure there's something there. I just feel like some thing seem interesting how they connect element wise to the gibdo strengths and weaknesses

First of all, why are we ignoring the fact that Resident Evil did this kind of stuff too? And second and foremost, here's my take on the Redead/Gibdo spectrum: *Actual Gibdo Appearances:* THF (Z1), ALttP, LA, OoT, MM, OoS/A, FS, FSA, MC, TP, ALBW, TFH, TotK - Gibdos have always had multiple forms of that of an undead corpse. Be it that they're wrapped, unwrapped, are more skeletal or in the this case, Stalfos-like in nature. In traditional Zelda eras they were usually just normal dark magic undead monsters. While in TotK, they seem to have mutated and evolved into the more scientific kind of undead like seen most Resident Evil games, Last of Us, and even speculated by scientists in real-life. However, in TotK, they also take on insect-like traits, in this case, more specifically that of traits of the Mothula species from the series. That said, the Gibdos in TotK aren't just scientific versions of themselves, but also the new evolution of Mothula kind. *Technical Mothula Appearances:* ALttP, OoS, WW, ST, TotK - While True mothulas only appeared in ALttP, OoS, WW, and ST, mothulas do technically appear in TotK via their fusion with Gibdos. And what do the new modern Gibdos and Mothulas both have in common? They both love to spread their spore everywhere and infect everything with them. *Actual ReDead Appearaces:* ALttP, OoT, WW, TFH - Yes, that's right! ALttP, OoT, WW, ALBW, and TFH are the only four actual appearances of ReDeads. While the known OoT/MM incarnation of "ReDeads" and TFH ReDeads do bear resemblances to each other, even both wearing masks, they are actually not the same thing. Let me explain. Those brown zombie things from OoT/MM are actually Gibdos unwrapped. The true actual ReDeads of OoT actually those white ground thriving monsters, called in that game, as Dead Hand. However, what happens when those hands become independent, leaving Dead Hand all alone, shriveled into the shape of WW's ReDeads, covered in dirt, and to wear a mask much like what Gibdos wear? They become the ReDeads from TFH! And the hands become the variation of Floor Masters seen in WW. While WW is the actual true first appearance of true ReDeads in name. But what if I told you that there's still more ReDead lore? What if I told you that there is actually potential that ReDeads and Vires can potentially become one in the same as Mothulas and Gibdos have? And that it technically has already happened in WW? Also, as a side note, the Sheikah monks in BotW literally resemble more peaceful versions of WW's ReDeads. This is because they are not corrupted by dark magic or infused with the vampire-like traits of a Vire. It's also possible that the Freezors from ALttP and ALBW are actually frozen variations of WW's version of ReDead. Hence why I listed ALttP and ALBW. *Technical Vire Appearances:* THF (Z1), AoL (Z2), ALttP, LA, OoS/A, WW, ALBW - Yes, you read right, technically Vires do appear in AoL, ALttP, and even ALBW. As I've already explained that I believe that WW's ReDeads are also technically Vires. I also went on to state that Freezors from ALttP and ALBW are also Vires by this same logic since they resemble WW's ReDeads, but in a frozen-like state. Allow me to explain. In all the three games, how do we encounter these foes most of the time? From walls right? Typically in coffins in WW, yes? And the name "Vire", at least in regards to the namesake of the Zelda enemy, happens to derive from the word "Vampire". I mean, Zelda 1's incarnation literally separates into Keese if you try to kill them with a sword weaker than the Magic Sword. And Vires in that game look so much like the WW ReDeads, but with four eyes and wings! And the Acheman from Zelda 2 also resembles Vires. Let's be honest, Zelda 2 is a weird game when it comes to Zelda enemies. So let's just all agree that Acheman are literally just Vires under a different name since they literally behave just like Vires as the Ache do Keese. The Gerus are literally early versions of Lizalfos. And Mobies are just early versions of Guays and Crows. Anyways, that is why I firmly believe that this whole time Vires and ReDeads have actually appeared in more games than we thought. Vires most especially. That all said, I strongly believe that evolution and hybrids definitely do exist in the world of Zelda. And we've literally witnessed proof of that. And let's all be honest here, Froxes are literally just Zonai made clones of Dodongos, Dodongos that ate too much Zonaite, or an evolution of Dodongos for being too close Zonaite! I refuse to believe they're just something else entirely! And Aerocudas are true modern Aches, as like Aches, they seem to be closely related to Keese. After all, Aches were really just bigger Keese, and so are Aerocudas. While Vires are demonic vampire-like Hybrids of Keese/Aerocuda and any humanoid like creature. This putting Vires in the shared families of Keese/Aerocuda and ReDeads, commonly respectfully. However, I do believe that the Vires in Zelda 1, Zelda 2, LA, and OoS/A are the only true pure Vires in that they are Keese/Aerocudas that have become strong enough to take on their own humanoid demon vampire like form as they're not zombie like at all, except for maybe Zelda 2's Acheman form of Vires. redeads and gibdos are not the same thing.....

I think the “do” in “Gibdo” is meant to be pronounced like “dough” (or if you’re familiar woth music, like how “do” in a musical scale is pronounced- do re mi fa so la ti do)- not “do” as in “do this” or “do that.”

Nah, the flesh ones from OoT and MM are still the most unnerving. TotK are more like big insects. Not too much unlike Lizalfos or Bokoblins in the vein of an enemy race. ReDeads and OG Gibdos are as close to the implication of a reanimated corpse as you can get. And the human proportions are as unnerving as their method of strangling you to death.

My first guess was they were, like, corpse bugs. Cause of the wings and mandibles, and they were found in otherwise empty tombs. I don’t think they’re especially contagious, at least not in a way we have to care about. Their mummified appearance and the fact that they’re found in said tombs says to me that they infect bodies that are already dead. And their constraint to the desert and select special areas tells me they’re not viable outside a dry desert climate. Wandering around the wetlands of lanayru would decay them to uselessness. Remember, ganondorf hit each region in a specific way. He polluted the zora’s water and poisoned the deku tree. He grounded the rito with violent, freezing storms. The gibdo hives were never meant to spread around hyrule- he had other plans for those regions.
