In this video I debunk many myths about GTO theory, and show you when it applies, how to use it, and when it doesn't make sense. Be sure to read the tweet below for the full picture.
- High stakes hand review from $10K buy-in.
- Basic GTO theory (and why it's flawed).
- A better way to make decisions.
- Blockers, and their impact on GTO decision-making.

My god thank you for the call out on randomization. The information IS there, you just have objectively track the players by paying attention and then respect your intuition. The number of times we’ve all heard “eh you have me beat don’t you…. I call “ then after losing the hand (that they already knew they would lose) say “I can’t fold there”. Bro yes you can. You’re concerned about being exploitable bc you fold? Guess what next time a player then tries to bluff you off a hand, that information will also be there. The use of intuition can either be a players greatest edge or their greatest hindrance. GTO is a great tool if you take concepts from it and use it for muscle memory of the basics... but imo that’s it 😂

How to actually be good at Poker: - Play more and play various styles of Poker to give you better and deeper understanding about different aspects of the game. - Don't autopilot, always think before making any decision, you'll see a dramastic change in your game and your result. - Prepare a warm-up list of things to do/not do before any session, this is very important because we have tendency to jump back to our bad habits. - The most important thing in Poker is "BE AWARE AND ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EMOTION IN CHECK". Your mind must be absolute stone-cold and bullet-proof in order to win this game in long term. You must be cool otherwise this game will ruin your life and turn you into a pathetic gambler. - And eventually, choose the stake and the game that you can win. No matter how good you are, it's always minus EV to play against the top pros because of the rake and fee.

Indeed. Answering the question is pool/specific player over/underbluffing this spot is much more important than knowing the exact GTO solutions. Thats why players who are good in that are winning more in an average pool than players that try to copy (probably copyting wrong) GTO.

Preach Alec! GTO is a really good guide but few people are smart enough to use it to its fullest extent. Excellent video!!

I have a question about GTO given the context of games like 200NL or 500NL online: Would you agree that GTO becomes less and less reliable in higher stakes games considering the higher skill of the player pool? From my experience, you're more likely to have opponents with tighter ranges such as JJ+, AK or AQs
@ConsciousPoker
@ConsciousPoker 8 месяцев назад
It's the opposite. It's more used in higher stakes because players are more balanced.

I love GTO, but i play an exploitative style. What i have learned is to pick my spots, especially in tournaments. Picking your spots is so underrated. It's one of the most important things in poker. GTO does understand the importance of it, but it's only position based (e.g. what hands you play from UTG, mid pos, button etc.). AI picks it's spots what hands to play from which position and tells you how to play them, but it doesn't take into account who you play against.

I'm trying an experiment since first October. No bluffs, no hero calls, just simple and tight nit poker. Played 90 hours so far. 13 out of 15 sessions green. There's always drunk players, emotional players and players who make unprofitable calls or are chasing you. In the end it's a game against humans, which make mistakes...
@ConsciousPoker
@ConsciousPoker 9 месяцев назад
That's interesting. Where do you draw the "no bluff" line? After you're called on flop cbet?
@deinheld4686
@deinheld4686 9 месяцев назад
Exactly! I don't play my range, just my hand. After me and friends were discussing so much about specific hands and strategies i just asked myself: why are we turning poker into rocket science sometimes? So i came up with my little nit experiment. Will test it for 500 to 1000 hours..

how many hands for the test now? I feel like the "edge" is going to decrease unless you could change another account. I am a kind of guy like taking notes though lol.@@deinheld4686

If you’re not concerned about your hourly rate you can absolutely go to the casino on a Saturday night playing small stakes and only play premium hands and do well

That’s what confuses me about GTO, how do you pick when to do the 85% and when to do the 15%. Or are you just going with the 85% every time because it’s more likely to be correct Seems to me like GTO is just covering its ass with these small percentages of the other option

GTO is an AI playing with an AI not with a human... I can't understand how it could be right with every damn human... there are so many different players...

Yep GTO teachers are so annoying.. Sometimes they think they are so smart when they are talking about some one time hand playing frequency and then in the real situation they just do what they feel is right...

Great post, Alec! If the guy is a massive rock, it's a fold. Otherwise it's probably a call. So player dependent

ALEC. Curious KsQc 30-70 and KcQs 100-0. What's the GTO explaination. OR is it just plain wrong. I know that you were making a different point. Or is it a GIVEN by the ORACLE.

I checked the wizard,Our cbet - XC - X line nearly have trash hands on the river,which means BTN's bluff mainly coming from made hands like 22-44/45s/78hh. If we did the B-B-X line,then it's a another story. So if we focus on this hand,this line,I don't think the combination of KQo matter that much.Because most of player are not capable bluffing the 22-44/45s/78hh on the river.

@@NZ_PokerT Fair points and solvers love to bluff with these underpairs, but in practice, people just fold these on the flop and under bluff them on turns and rivers, which skews our calling range, which is why GTO doesn't optimize and we need to node lock everything basically.
