Hoda Kotb gets real about mom-shaming on ‘TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.’ The anchor opens up about a moment in her life when people's negative comments hurt her. Hoda says hers was when someone mailed her a letter saying quote, 'How dare you bring a child into this world at your age?' The journalist, who adopted her two daughters in her early 50s, says, 'It took my breath away because that actually was my ouch.

Better to be an older parent who is established and healed then a younger parent who passes unresolved trauma onto their kids. People should mind their own business.

My mother abandoned me when I was 19 days old and my grandmother took me and raised me. She was in her 50’s. She took the role of mother. And raised me really well. I am a professional with good morals because of her. Hoda will raised her daughters really well. Idiots have nothing to say to her.

The person that did that went out of their way to be mean and age shame her, without knowing her story. What a miserable life that person must live. Enjoy your children Hoda.

Considering what we know of Hoda any child would be lucky to have her as a mother, at any age. She seems like such a loving, nurturing person

I got pregnant at 43--very unexpected. Everyone had an opinion about it. Not all of us are on the same clock so people should really just learn to mind their own business and keep their mouths shut.

My grandma had my mom at 42, my mom had me at 38. I didn’t have much time with my grandmother, I was 10 when she passed, but the time I did have was valuable and still remember her well. My mother is in her 60s and hasn’t slowed down a bit. When they became mothers they were both established, successful women who knew themselves and raised their children with grace, wisdom and stability… and people think that’s cruel? How about the 70 year old men fathering children??? Women are always going to be judged if you have your kid at 22 or 52. I mean seriously a whole letter? It’s her life! Those kids are loved! Leave them alone!

My own sister told me that when I was on my 40’s and my husband and I were going through infertility treatments with IVF. It shattered me to hear those words. I also had my sister in law tell me that I “didn’t need a child.” Both of those people had children….so I never could wrap my head or heart around them speaking those things to me. Words cut like a knife….I wish people would be mindful of that. I never did get my dream of being a Mommy, but I am so thrilled for Hoda and those baby girls…..they were meant to be hers. ♥️

I simply don’t understand why people cannot just be supportive and stop being so mean spirited. Those girls are blessed to have her as their mother.

People forget about the kids who don’t get to be adopted into loving homes. That is not the better alternative. We need more people like Hoda in the world ❤

She opened her home to a child that needed a loving home. I think it is awesome that older people adopt. They are wiser and more settled. This is a good thing ❤

Her age doesn't mean anything. Younger people are passing away everyday. Those girls are blessed to have her ❤

My great-grandmother had my grandmother at age 50 and had two more children after that. My grandmother had her children late in life too. My late mother and I wouldn’t have existed if older women didn’t have children. I say go go girl, Hoda. And Hoda don’t let anyone tell you that you are a bad mother and not worthy of having children at your age, you are a wonderful mother. You and your kids are lucky to have each other.

I changed careers at 52, got my masters degree at age 59, and adopted my baby granddaughter at age 62. Let people live their lives as it feels right to them. Please.

Congratulations on raising two happy little girls. Age is only a number. And you can be a Mom at any age. My mother passed when she was only 36. My aunt and uncle were in their late 60's and they took me in to raise. They became my Mom and Dad!

That’s just grotesque. She’s has every right to be a mother no matter her age. What’s important is that her children are being raised by a mother that loves them so incredibly much. I think Hoda is an inspiration to older women wanting children. It’s the love that matters.

Hoda deserves to enjoy every aspect of being a mother. I am so upset and speechless over that letter. This person does not know how badly Hoda wanted these beautiful children :) Hoda should be celebrated not shamed!!!

What is wrong with people some moms maybe shouldn’t have children at that age but Hoda has the means and especially the love to be a mother. Hoda you are a special person who is living your best life with your family. You are healthy, energetic, and have the biggest heart of love to give her children. Thank you for having your family let haters hate but you are just perfect for these marvelous girls.

Meanwhile, on the other end of things, I'm a 40-year-old woman who still gets asked "why didn't you have kids/why don't you have kids?" Like it's anyone's business or like there is something wrong with me. I don't think I'll have kids, but I also don't think I should have to explain anything to anyone. Maybe people can just try to mind their own business.

I'm expecting with my 1st kid at 38 with my husband. I had people tell me to start thinking about freezing my eggs and to start worrying if I can't have children naturally after trying for a year. There's too much generalization out there. Families have evolved over the years. People need to stop placing their depictions of what family looks like on others and just live your life. When I need advice...I'll ask for it.
