@@dackjanielsmeup I work 40 plus hours a week and manage to have a very similar routine to “that girl”. Daily exercise and journaling helps me mentally and physically. My daily housework takes a total of maybe 20 minutes. I am just not understanding why everyone is like “this is impossible…” because it’s really not. It’s just a morning routine. If doing this in the morning doesn’t work for you and doing it after work does, then fine. It’s still getting done. I prefer to do it in the mornings so when I’m done with work and the return from work pet care, I can relax and not have to worry about cleaning the litter box or mopping the floors at 9:30 at night.

@@Vivi_LaRue Maybe you have seen a more down to earth “that girl” routine, but the ones I watched were hilariously out of touch. Like the whole point of it was to have a nervous breakdown in an attempt to be the uLtImAte fEmaLe.

Yesss if you don’t have a family or friends, “that girl” lifestyle fills the void in your life, at least it did for me, while improving my mental and physical health and generally made me feel better about myself 🤷‍♀️ but I could see how people who are social, have kids or a 9-5 job would have trouble being “that girl” tho
@Vivi_LaRue

Um…I have friends. And pets. And a house to maintain. Why is trying to have a healthy lifestyle suddenly a negative. I am a “roll with the punches” type of person, but I absolutely find my life more functional when I have a basic schedule to work off of.

@@Vivi_LaRue I think the original comment more so meant that people pushing this trend were taking advantage of people who felt lonely and lacked social interaction with good friends. Caring about your health is not bad at all, but anything can be taken too far, and when so-called "wellness" is taken too far, it may be a sign someone is trying to compensate for something

@@Vivi_LaRue It's not about being healthy. You're missing the point. It's about "influencers" creating this extreme routine that's not realistic for the average person and making everything look so perfect, which is unrealistic, but it makes those watching feeling like they're behind or not doing it good enough, etc. People just need to be more real and honest vs fake and making everything perfect. It's ridiculous. And not about being truly healthy. Healthy does not mean becoming obsessed with perfection. Healthy is just about moderation.

Thanks for making this video because this is pretty much what my life looks like and I don't even have children, haha. I work from home (I've been a remote worker since before COVID, so I've been doing it for 7-years) and I look like a zombie 99% of the time. I used to journal everyday, but then I tend to only journal when I'm channeling Sylvia Plath (AKA my psychiatrist should probably involuntarily commit me into a hospital), so I honestly think it's a good thing when I am not journaling. Because it means I'm not an emotional mess LOL. I don't do meditations because I find them boring. I honestly feel my happiest when I am doing my morning dishes, getting my coffee ready and listening to a podcast. I'm not very productive in the morning because I am a night owl and am more energized at night. So I take it very slow in the mornings. I usually play video games until like noon, I have an hour for "lunch" and THEN I start working. I am my most productive in the afternoon. Trust me, trying to be productive in the morning just leads to A LOT of procrastination.

I’m not sure why everyone is finding this “trend” so problematic. Get up, drink some water, make your bed, exercise for 30 mins (I do yoga), have breakfast, journal and make your to do list for the day, and get ready for the day. That’s literally my morning. Just add in pet care and house keeping and you have my pre-work agenda. Do I go out of my way to make my food pretty? Sometimes. Sometimes I make a meal. Sometimes I make a shake or a smoothie. FFS, my GRANDMOTHER used to get up 30 minutes or so before anyone else in the house so she could have some quiet time before the day got started. And that was 70 years ago.

Same girl. I don’t have the time for shit and work aLOT but to me doing these healthy habits its about MAKING it a priority. Its not always easy, and I cant always get to everything everyday but I make time for myself. I love doing a morning workout, lemon water literally takes two seconds (certainly quicker than abbey making a coffee in a machine and adding milk lol). Journaling can be done in 5 min whenever u feel like it. Its rlly not that hard. I feel like some people who shit on this are just salty. This entire video kind of just reeks of not like other girls because shes “messy.” Trying really hard to be relatable but this is not everyones reality either.

@@maar9494 I NEED a morning routine otherwise nothing is going to get done. I am aware of who I am as a person and the reality of it is this: other than cleaning up after I make myself something to eat, I am NOT cleaning after work. I’ve tried doing it that way and it was a nope. And unless I go to the gym directly from work, I’m not working out after work either. I get that it’s not for everyone and that’s fine. And almost every video I’ve seen about this “trend” is people saying “this is my routine, find what works for you”. Journaling keeps me balanced. Not everyone needs that. And OF COURSE people are putting their idealized version online. Some days I get it all done, some days I don’t. But having that framework in place helps me keep all the plates spinning.

Do I think maybe some take it far and unrealistic? Sure maybe but its up to us as the viewer to distinguish and take away pieces we like and dont like and use it how we see fit. I’m surprised at how emotional this video made me! I’m disabled and struggle a lot with everyday tasks, most days my brain and body literally aren’t capable of any kind of ‘perfect’ routine. Even though I know I shouldn’t hold myself to an impossible standard it really is sooo hard not to compare. It was SO great seeing that someone I really admire who seems to have her shit together still has half empty cans everywhere, doesn’t plan the perfect breakfast, takes shortcuts just to get things done.

Same here with disability and chronic illnesses. Everything is a struggle and it can make you feel less because you feel like you don't function like you "should". It is great to know that we aren't even close to being alone in this because a lot of people live like this and feel like this, even loads of healthy people. So we aren't less than others, we ARE good enough and unique and perfectly flawed ❤!

Obviously this won't work for everyone. A trend created for and by a specific young (and privileged) demographic is not going to fit someone with different energy levels and with more dependents and responsibilities. If it feels like it's putting pressure on you and criticizing, step off that side of the internet and redirect your energy. I've never seen people in real life who discuss and criticize each other's morning routines, this feels like a very "online" problem. And a lot of tools have actually been proven to work for mental health and wellbeing, so I don't understand why there is much bashing of yoga, journaling, and meditations going on in comments. They are not miracle solutions but can be powerful tools IF they work for you.

While I appreciate the sentiment of this video, I can’t help but feel like there are some misogynistic undertones. It’s def true that the “that girl” trend mostly exists among young, privileged women and is not feasible for most folks. Moreover, there are unhealthy and grossly unrealistic goals perpetuated by this trend but I also think it’s okay to appreciate some of the ideals that come along with the trend and recognize that it has some positives like wellness and self-care. While I know concepts like “wellness” and “self-care” have largely been co-opted and now have negative connotations, it’s not an inherently bad thing to want to spend some extra time doing yoga and trying to eat nourishing foods you’ve made yourself. And I especially do not think we should blindly criticize and open up the floodgates for making fun of largely young adolescents who have the time and resources to explore those kinds of habits. I’m just worried that too much criticism has the effect of villainizing young girls who are still figuring out their priorities. While on one hand we should recognize there are unhealthy aspects of the “that girl” tend, let’s not perpetuate the idea that people should be villainized or made fun of simply bc they have extra time and have different priorities than a working mom. There is room out there to respect all kinds of lifestyles.

Whilst I understand this as well, I think it’s fair to call out the “that girl” trend as being inadvertently albeit only slightly misogynistic as well; in spreading the idea that all women should aim to be “that girl” and if they’re not, then they’re lazy or stupid or unhealthy which is something that is constantly imposed on women who don’t do what society demands of them. While I think “that girl” girls are kind of annoying, I don’t really give a shit what they do. I just don’t think I’ll be friends with them cause we probably won’t get along lol.

I Love your videos and I have to say that one was particularly funny! It just gave me that weird feeling of: everything is a mess when you have kid and only busy moms can complain about how hard life is. I think it is not fair to present things like that… you can have a very busy life and have to order in even without kids… I know I’m taking it too personal because I don’t have kids and it is a little bit tiring to heard the same all the time… yes, because 95% of the women of my age have kids and everyone tells me that and I’m just like: so why do you have them? Nobody forced you! I’m sure you didn’t do this video meaning to be hurtful but I just wanted to express my feelings! PD: English is not my first language so please excuse any possible grammatical or spelling error in my comment :)

I typically like your videos, however, I’m conflicted about this one. I love the honesty and transparency, however, at times you come off as a bit judgy towards the highly curated wellness folks. Personally, I love this trend, especially amongst women of color. I love that so many of us are engaging in health and wellness through our own cultural and aesthetic lenses. It’s empowering and inspiring to see women of color creating such beautiful and soothing content. I’m a new mom myself - my son is 11 months - so I get it! He definitely dictates my life! No more morning pages for me and meditation these days looks like a shared nap with him in my beautiful tuft bed that’s never made up 😂. However, I don’t find the aspirational wellness life problematic in general, IF and only IF, you have the genuine desire, means and capacity to engage with it , you find it edifying and you don’t feel as if your “failing” if you don’t want to or can’t do it. When I have capacity for it, I feel amazing as if I’m filling my well, if you know what I mean. Like I’m loving on myself the way I want to be loved by others. That I’m living a life that I didn’t think would be in my grasp when I was a lil girl. And when I don’t have time for it I don’t judge myself - I give myself grace. Sh*t the new mom struggle is real - if it wasn’t for Athletic Greens - I wouldn’t consume anything green on some days 😂. I guess what I’m saying is that if the whole “hot girl summer wellness” thing’s not for you cool. And the community of women who engage with it shouldn’t belittle women who decide it’s not for them. And conversely, women who are on the whole bare minimum thang (like me right now 🙋🏾‍♀️), don’t need to belittle those who prefer a more curated experience… Just do you! Live and let live. Love and let love 🙏🏾.

But now working outside of the home I feel like it’s just silly to feel like you need to adopt someone else’s routine and it’s more about embracing what works for you and your family and what makes you feel good, not stressed out or sad about what you aren’t obtaining or doing.

Hey Abbey, I love your channel and I understand "that girl" is a term people are using to describe influencers that are promoting unhealthy unsustainable diet trends, but I find the use of the term problematic and have seen it on a number of your videos now. The very language itself pits women against women, and singles out an ideal or person that is in need of healthy advice for ridicule. Sure it gets clicks... but will hating on a troupe help change diet culture and reach those that need help?
@nini-qc1qd
@nini-qc1qd 2 года назад
how is being "that girl" even bad? It's not like they promote smoking, drinking or eating take outs etc. If anything, they're doing the opposite. Exercising, eating healthy, studying/ journaling etc so how's that even bad? This video felt very "I'm not like other girls, I don't have time for their silly things". It's okay if you don't have that kind of time but she's not even in their age-range audience. If eating a cookie makes her happy then why can't she accept that for some people, eating a fruit makes them happy. I will never understand how people get sad when see other people achieving their goals-it's not like all of our goals are even same lol

@@nini-qc1qd Well to me the trend seems to promote an unhealthy level of perfectionism. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the individual habits the fact that all the routines are so eerily similar is a little problematic because it gives the impression that health and wellness is one size fits all which is simply not true and can put unnecessary pressure on impressionable people watching those videos. I don't think it's fair to blame any individuals partaking in the trend for these problems but at the same time I think it's good when we get to see some variety in routines especially something that's less perfectionist and more relatable

Gotta love a woman who makes a whole video criticizing how other women live their lives. There’s reasons some of us women choose NOT to have kids and one of those reasons is so we can have peace and quiet and freedom to do whatever we want. You just come off as being jealous of women that have this freedom and have a “that girl” morning routine or you seem to regret the motherhood lifestyle altogether. Also I don’t see how making lemon water is THAT difficult when you have time to make coffee in a fancy looking coffee maker.

well being "that girl" obviously comes natural to you, that's great! but for lots of people it's just not attainable and not sustainable. the narrative of being that girl is clearly a social media trend and makes some feel bad for not being perfect. to criticize that (aka show up with your imperfections) is not being bitter or jealous. just look at the comments under this video of the many people saying they are relieved to see someone portraying their unpolished life. even people without kids seem to find this trend just not realistic.
@Raccoon_Chic

@@antoniav4133 I never said that I attain "that girl" lifestyle. Maybe bits and pieces but my point is that Abbey just seems to like to diss on women that don't have kids and play the whole victim card when it comes to being a mother when she CHOSE that lifestyle. If you and others feel bad about seeing people who seem to spend all morning and every morning pampering themselves then don't watch that kind of content? Or realize that even the people that post "that girl" lifestyle videos don't actually do that every single day and alot of them disclose that in their content.
