Road King? People ask me a lot, “how could you buy a Harley-Davidson Road King”? Especially after having an Electra Glide? Well, let’s talk about that! Find us on Instagram and Facebook at Steven Fauxtagraphy
To me, the Harley-Davidson Road King is what a motorcycle should be. Just a great ride and none of all the electronics and gadgets that just distract you from the ride and the sound of that V-twin motor. Great choice.
Great vlog! I waited 30+ years to buy my first Harley!......and when I did.... It was a 2018 Brand New Road King! Life changing experience to say the least! Thought it would be a Heritage Softail ...But after sitting on a Road King in the showroom..It was the Road King all the way! ...LOVE It !
Great video! New subscriber here. I just purchased a 2003 100th Anniversary Road King Classic. I work at a car dealership and a customer traded it in for a new car. Chromed out to the max, clean as a whistle and only 13k miles on the odometer!!! When I saw it, I immediately told my boss I was buying it!! They gave me a big discount since I worked there! Only drawback is it's a 88 and I would like a little more power. All in all, an awesome bike! Road Kings rule!!!
njbluesgtr the 100 anniversary’s are still great looking bikes. The 88!is a great motor. There are a lot of them out there with 100k plus, miles on them and still going. I put a big bore kit on mine right away, makes it a 95 inch motor and that made a big difference.
I have a 2012 Road King Classic, it has 116,000 miles on it. Has never had ANY major repairs, and still runs like new, and uses or leaks ZERO oil. I LOVE the 103 6 speed, and how the motorcycle is still a MOTORCYCLE. I've never wanted all the bells and whistles, and a radio, and a fairing, that I feel like I have to look over and around all the time. I think the Road King is the best all around bike, that Harley has ever built. It has the things you NEED, to make riding more comfortable, and all the FRILL is removed.
Currently own a 2000 RK 88ci 5sp carbureted, and a 2014 streetglide splc with all the goodys. The streetglide is a nice riding bike, but I have to say I love my road king. Puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. It's just a great bike. Enjoying the videos. Ride safe👊
I know exactly what your saying. There is something special about the Roadking. When I had my Ultra classic it felt like something was missing, Even thought that bike had everything Harley offered (at the time). Thanks for watching the Video. I appreciate the comment. 🤟
I have a 2002 RK Police and a 2014 Streetglide. Understand what you're saying. Streetglide is for sale and fitting a 6 speed to the 2002. Love my old one. Its a keeper.
Looking at purchasing my first Harley soon was at a local dealer today and almost pulled the trigger on a 2004 road king fire fighter special edition! I have to say watching your videos has really helped in my decision process! Ride on man see you out there soon!
Jimmy Spangler the bright red would be an awesome color. Especially if you covered it in chrome! Let us know if there is anything else we can help!? Thank you for watching!
I've had three 88" TCs with the 95" big bore kit. All well built and all with the S&S gear drive .510cams. That 95" kit was the best engines I've had. Yes, when built right, they would walk away from most CVOs and other built bikes. I now have a 2020 Road King Special (114") and I'm sure that 95" would walk away from the 114 in stock configuration. Once built (stage-II) the M8 114 will win the day but the TC 95"... Great engine!
You have one nice Road King and made the best choice! The Harley Davidson Road King is one of the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of motorcycle designs. The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Road King stands supreme and has no equal. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged. I own a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88 V-Twin to a 95. The fast producing torque and sound is exhilarating. My Road King with its original anniversary Two-Tone Sterling Silver and Vivid Black paint colors stands out. The commemorative medallions seen throughout this ride's sculpted design adds to its nostalgia, mystique, and exclusivity.
I think the best thing about the Road King is the removable windshield. After riding an 03 Heritage Softail Classic for 9 years I upgraded to an 06 Road King Classic back in February. I've put 12k on the Road King. I knew I would like the cruise control. I jumped on I-77 near Marietta Ohio the other day and rode 34 miles without hands. Loving the Road King life.
As far as gauge is go get the dyno jet power vision ...not only for the amazing tune but you can pick what gauges you want whether they're analog or digital gear indicator tach temperature whatever and have them in front of you up on your handlebars at all times it's absolutely priceless for anyone with a Road King... I'm on my third Road King by the way.
The same reason you have about your RK is the same reason I have about my 2015 RK. I don't need a radio, I don't need the GPS. I like being able to take the windshield off and on, I could buy a tour pack and if needed you can put it on and take it off. It looks cooler. (Bad Ass) I love looking down and seeing the big ass headlights and passing lamps. They look more like a real motorcycle
Cool Video, I just traded my 2011 Road Glide in for a 2021 Road King. You have the same reasons why I went from the Road Glide to the Road King. Best of both worlds.
Love my 05 RK Custom, it's my first Harley. Have had it for a year now. Just had right elbow surgery, and hopping I ant got to down grad from my 16" handlebars
Hi buddy, I"ve been FXDWG's, I've had 3 and 1 Dresser, but always loved my '95 Evo Wide Glide with a Bikini Faring. I'm now looking for another bike, was hard looking at another WG, but after looking and listening to you guys on RU-vid about a Road King, apart from the weight, I'm looking REAL hard at one. As you and others say about a RK, you have the comfort, A+, cheaper than a Full Dresser A+, you can remove the glass and ride around town with wind in ya face, A+, All up, with the RK, I've got 3 A+'s, PLUS, cheaper than a RK special, which I don't like the black outs. I'm old school when it comes to riding and loving my bike, If you turn around when walking away from ya bike, then you'll love it all the way to 100ks, (Yep, I've from down under in oz). You've sold me on a RK. Thanks heaps to all those YT videos I've looked and listened to about a RK, I'm SOLD.
Kev R. Hildebrandt that’s awesome! That’s why we make the videos. You won’t be disappointed with a Roadking! I will ride in Australia some day! I want to go there so bad!!
I love your Road King because mine is the same year and color,, now do to my wife loving riding with me, I needed more storage, so I put a Tour Pak and have yet to ride without the windshield, it’s been either too many Luv Bugs during Summer or Too Cold in Winter, so… Anyway Stevy, I support ya brother! Road King Rolls any way you want to roll. Happy Thanksgiving too you & All!
I watched this video about 6 months ago and it stuck in my head. I had a 99 Yamaha road star at the time. I have always liked her but has been giving me trouble with fork seals leaking then carb issues and electrical problems no gas gauge. i decided to head to the local Harley shop only to pickup another dew rag on the way my speedometer quit working. When I walked in there was a 2015 FLHR Blake magic Road King siting there. I forgot the dew rag and bought the road king instead. Me and my bank account thanks you
Enjoyed your vid, I'm thinking about buying a Road King, so it was interesting to hear your comments, also great to see a chrome/classic version, my dealership only seems to be interested in bringing in blacked out version.
nimbul1rides I’m a big fan of the Roadking. I also gave a walk around video on my channel’ thank you for watching. You will not be disappointed with a Roadking.
If I ever decide to go up from my Sportster I'll go with a road king. Really like the minimalist bike styling, just me and the road. Why I like my Sportster so much.
@@StevyFaux They're a ton of fun especially with a good intake and pipes. Your welcome. My only this is I love the performance cruisers like the sportsters. I heard Road Kings are a bit sluggish.
I recently got a road king 2019 a beast don't get me wrong I had 103 street glide and road glide and missed them both but so glad I got RK CANT BEAT THEM THEY KICK ASS.
Other thing Steve, After years on the fairing baggers I am rejecting the rolling tech platforms that (IMO) the new baggers are. Fast story; A few years back me and some buddies were on our way to Colorado Springs on our annual trip to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Bunch of young guy/cool guys showed up on their new bikes all dressed like each other and all "plugged in". Those young cats spent more time syncing, plotting, arguing over channels and trying to connect bluetooth devices etc, AND being frustrated at their GPSs that it annoyed the hell out of me. I watched those cats and wondered if they were riding motorcycles or stereos with wheels. The new generation man... So when I started shopping for the new bike I was drawn to the Road King; a bike I've never owned. I like the simplicity. All I need is the speedo and really I don't even need that. Back to riding a motorcycle instead of a rolling tech platform. Loving every minute of it.
😂 I’m picturing something like the guys from American Pie trying to sync up and arguing about how it’s the techs fault. I agree man plus without the raisin and all that you can see the road in front of you better 😂. Thank you!
Just came across this video. I have a 2016 Road King purchased it new. Living in Alaska I have maybe 5 months if we’re lucky of riding weather. That said I’ve inly got 3K miles on her at the moment. This is my 3rd HD and second Road King. I had an ‘05 Fatboy, ‘11 Road King Classic and now my ‘16 Road King. All three have been fantastic bikes. With this bike paid off I’ll slowly start customizing it. I’ll probably change the seat and the suspension first and then possibly get the Stage IV upgrade for the 103. After that it will just be aesthetic doo dads. Otherwise I enjoyed the video even though it’s been 2 yrs since you made it. Cheers from North Pole, AK!
thanks for the video Josh. I just met you at the ice hole at lake Ozark Saturday. I met your wife on the wrpr. I have a 2014 cvo soft tail deluxe. I have been thinking about getting a road glide but I don't use radios. I am always the one that has to stop and get gas. So the RK would be what I need.
I just bought a 2015 Roadking this year. I sat on a street glide originally. We couldn't come together on a price but his said he had this Road king that would get me the payment I wanted. I had never thought of a roadking. Just never was a focus of my interest. But I sat on it and looked it over. I was a bit hesitant. But I bought it. I do not regret it at all.. I love the bike. Rides like a Cadillac. Cruise control, I put some cheapo speakers on it so I got tunes.. it's a great bike. I let my bro ride it and he was so impressed he went out and bought one too. I'm a Roadking man for sure now
Uriel1816 it is the best of both worlds. The comfort of a touring bike with the option of having a cruiser feel by being able to take the windshield off and with the speakers they make now if you want music you can buy some speakers and still be under the cost of a road glide or an Electra Glide. That’s just my opinion, give one a test ride and see what you think. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
One of the few things my twin Cam has over my 1972 FLH Police special is it has a gas Gage I can just look at you have to look in the tank on my 72 FLH. I have a 2002 FLSTC and a 2001 Road King FLHRCI and I am sorry I bought them they are not designed to do your own work. I got the Road King up for sale now and the Softtail is next and I will hunt down a good Evo Road King or Soft tail I can work on.
Awesome Video! I have a 2004 RK. I adapted some 2016 Saddlebags to it, and will be installing the Rockford Fosgate Audio setup for RKs. There's no need for so many gauges on a Bike. Can't go wrong with the Road King. Just my personal opinion. Ride safe!
Ha Grant Wistrom bought the bike you wanted that’s awesome. I’m a Husker fan and Grant is a LEGEND in Lincoln. Looking at buying a Road King within the next 4 years EDIT: Just noticed that you live in Nebraska. Love your Road King
Hey stevy I loved the video and I road a 96 road king a few years ago and thas one of Harleys smoothest riding bikes wow I loved it. Hoe to do a meet up if Christine ever gets to running lmao. And she will in time hopefully a short time lol. But keep up the awesome job u r doing
I'm thinking of getting one of these and putting a Memphis shades batwing on it. More classic look, none of the crap I don't need in the way of looking at the road.
Last year I traded my Silver 2006 Road King Classic for a 2014 Road King 103 engine high output. With a detachable tour pack, chrome wind defectors, day maker headlight and running lights, led brake light, all total the guy that had it before me put $5000. Of extras. Before he took delivery.
I think if I ever buy another Harley Davidson, it would be a Road King. I base that decision comparing the rides I experienced on my brother's Road King and then his new Road Glide. Number one, I did not like the fairing on the Road Glide. I prefer to see my front wheel turn in the direction I wish to go and the fairing prevented that...for me, anyway. The Road King possesses those classic beautiful old school looks. I even liked it more than my '08 Fatboy.
I have owned a 06 Road Glide for 7yrs. Been thinking about trading it in. A RK is one of the choices I'm looking at. I get what you mean with the radio. I have been through several head units and speaker set ups. Non of them have lasted.
Sweet bike, man...Just bought my first H-D Heritage 114, and i do love it, but now I'm thinking of one of these Road Kings....thanks for the video--liked and subbed!
Thank you for watching. I love my Roadking bit I really like the Heritage! And the 114 is no joke! I think that the wife is going to end up with a Heritage. Maybe pretty soon!
Can I ask why you feel like upgrading? I really am interested in the Heritage Softail. The RK and the Heritage are two models I'm considering. Just curious what you're thoughts are.
My wife has a Honda Fury right now. And she has talked about getting a Heritage for a while now. She has Ridden my Roadking before and she says the Heritage is more comfortable for her. But having the bigger gas tank and the storage, along with the running boards and more upright seating position would be more comfortable on longer rides. But I will keep my Roadking. I love that bike. For me the touring line is the most comfortable and the Roadking is almost the same price as a heritage making it in my opinion the best bang for your buck that Harley Davidson makes.
@@StevyFaux Me too , the Sportster was great fun but I want to be able to do some serious long rides . Both my sons are in the military so it would be good to make trips to where they are posted . The perils of being a military father/grandfather....hahaha .
Sounds like beautiful bike. It’s really hard to raise the volume. I am experimenting with the the Apple mini home pods ($99 each ) and using the iPhone as the driver. So far the results are pretty impressive. My favorite bikes Harley bikes having sold them are the Heritage , deluxe and the road king. All 3 are good all around bikes. The glides are great for touring but a bit ponderous around town unless you have another bike too. I subscribed a good channel.
I have a electra glide. I really could do without all the crap on it but, it sure is nice being able to ride in cooler weather without being completely uncomfortable. I wonder how a roadking would do with a windshield + lowers ? Humm
I have a windshield and lowers for it. The windshield makes a huge difference. It doesn’t do as good as a batwing. But you can always buy a removable batwing in it.
@@StevyFaux Thanks, been riding for about 1 year now,I'm from Romania and I have the A2 license now, gotta wait 1 more year till I get the A license and can ride any motorcycle I currently have a Yamaha Virago 250 which I wanna change for a Honda Shadow 600 which I can ride with the A2 license or maybe a Yamaha DragStar 650,not sure but I think that works too
You know, here u can get the A license when u are 24 or after 2 years of A2 which to me is gonna be 24 anyway :D cuz I got this one last year when I was 22,I'm 23 now
I have an 04 Road King Custom and I Love It !! Bought it in 2011 original owner had 5000 mi on it . Sitting in his garage covered up on trickle charge like Brand New SOLD !! $ 12,000.00 Never getting rid of it !!my Pride and Joy
@@StevyFaux Yeah, the FXDR's are nice bikes for sure but definitely not my style. If I'm going to buy me a new Harley, it's either gonna be a Road King or a Fatboy 100%.
Really like my 2007 Road King, only thing is the fuel gauge quit working, it goes all the way to full mark when you crank up and stays there. I have to resort to the old way by resetting one of the trip meters each time, to pricey to fix right now. Great bike otherwise and there is jut something about it I can't explain, luv the old girl.
No I haven't thought of that because the needle does move to full when switched on. Could that still happen? All my bikes before this never had all the features my King does and I could wrench on them all day.
Wooley689 I don’t know if it could or not. Maybe the gauge is bad? It’s not hard to take out. Just a twist and the wire goes through the tank and plugs in underneath.
I always wear a helmet and I always wear earplugs. When I listen to music, it’s through my speakers in my helmet, thus a Road King! Yes, and Navi is through my phone anyway. I don’t need the extra hardware.
IVE HAD I STREET GLIDE RIDER AND A ROAD GLIDE RIDER BOTH TELL ME "ROAD KINGS ARE SEXY"! (on separate occasions) SO I SAY YOU GOT IT CUZ, "ROAD KINGS ARE SEXY" BEST LOOKING HARLEY TOURING BIKE THEY'VE EVER MADE, MY OPINION
Thanks for sharing your experience. Just wanted to ask your about the Handlebar brand & high please. It Looks great. Also, did u notice any neck pain or any hand tingling. Thanks in advance!
I used to have a lot of shoulder pain but forums out that wasn’t cause of the bars. I don’t use my windshield and my seat at the time had no back support so I was holding on to stop from sliding off the back. But I have a new seat now and that is no longer a issue. The bars are 16 inch Wild1inc, Chubbys. And I love them. Can’t recommend them enough.
Oh ya there are a bunch of options to choose from with sissy bars. I use my passenger backrest and took the pad off to strap all my bags to and it works great!
I am looking for a bike in the next few years. Always liked the road King. Can you give me your opinion on the latest herritage? I am 602 and 230lb. Am I going to be uncomfortable on a herritage. I like that it comes with bright lights, 100 lb. lighter than road King, etc... However I need a bike mainly for commuting 20 minutes each way. Bottom line, would a Road King still suit me better than a herritage based on my size? Any insight you could share would greatly be appreciated! Thanks.
E M thanks for watching. I love the Roadking because it’s a touring frame. It will fit anyone’s needs. That being said. I have ridden a new Heritage and it is awesome. And you can find them used also. It rides like a dream looks amazing and it will fit all needs. I would love to see you get a King, but you can’t go wrong with the heritage.
@@StevyFaux Thanks for the feedback. I guess test drives are in order. I am under the impression that I will feel the RK is to bulky for daily commuting, therefore I am thinking of the herritage. But I also worry the herritage might turn out to feel to small for my size. I don't know🤔. Again thanks.
E M the Roadking would be just fine for daily riding. But it comes down to what you would be more comfortable on. Comfort is the most important thing. Let me know if there is anything else we can do.
I’m looking at 2016 103 as opposed to the M8s from 2017 onwards. Dealers are selling 2016s at the same price as 2017 M8s. Tells me all I need to know. Sounds like jumping
Wanted a road king but I couldn’t justify spending almost 20k on a new motorcycle and not having gps, fairing, and a radio while the road glide was only a little more.
I hear that. I was the other way. I couldn’t see spending another 5k for a radio and fairing. Lol. That’s why motorcycles are awesome! We may see it different ways but it’s having the Motorcycle that is the important thing.
@@StevyFaux another 5k? Damn, I don’t know what prices are like near you but the difference between both of them when I got my bike was only 1,500 dollars lol.
@@roberturban2934 I love the way they feel. They look good no matter if you have the shield on or not. I have a couple videos on the channel with the windshield on the bike.
I sold my Classic and I am looking at the road kings would you say the road king is a lot less top heavy? I haven't ridden one and I may wait till it gets cold out to buy like the look of them thanks
Mark Frank was it an Electra Glide classic? If so they feel a little less top heave as far as picking them up. Once your moving it’s mostly the same. But the handlebars feel much lighter at speed cause there is no fairing. Even with the Roadking windshield there is still a noticeable difference. Thanks for watching!
Nice bike....I'm just wondering if you regret not getting the 107? I'm looking to get a Road King soon....love them. Trying to figure out between then 103 and 107. Any advise would be appreciated, thank you.
John Mott no I don’t regret it because of the deal I got on it. And the 107 was new and the were having problems. If I were to buy one in he near future I would probably look for a used M8 but I don’t feel like my 103 is a disadvantage in anyway. It’s a proven motor and it runs great. Thanks for watching and let us know what you decide.
It no longer matters. The HD motor company can not just lower prices. We now have access to Harley corporate balance sheets. This motor company in the red by almost 500 million. They are forced to sell bikes with substandard parts, just to generate the "shop-income" in some veil attempt to service some of these loans. This company in such a death spiral, is now only a matter of time before the banks start calling them in on some of these loans.........
@@StevyFaux thanks for the comeback Mister Steve ride safe brother I love my 2017 road King Laguna orange looks pretty damn good to me and that's what I got.
Sean Cooke you will love the Roadking. It’s the best of both worlds. It’s a Cruisertour! I’m 5’9’’ and my 16’s are perfect 👌. Your eight inches taller than my so I think 18’s would be fine!
Edward Weiszbeck I just kept throwing money at it. Listened to what all the HD forums. I have a Sena 30K on my helmet now. That’s the way to go to have music on your motorcycle. Way cheaper to
HD took half the stuff of a Electra Glide, charged $5,000 more and called it a Road King . HD fanboys sucked It up like pap. Big twins are expensive and unreliable. M-8 have a shopping list of mechanical issues. Only reliable and dependable bikes HD made were the EVOLUTION Sportster.
Michael Wheable I have heard great things about the 107. But the twin cam is a proven motor and they are going for a great now. They say the 2018 have some oil pump problems that were fixed in 2019, and if you get an older twin cam they have cam tensioner problems that were fixed when the Rushmore 103 came out. So I guess if your looking for a great deal there is nothing wrong with the twin cam and the sound great, but the resale is down on them. But I love my 103, has plenty of power and it sounds awesome. I have never owned a M8 so I don’t have much experience riding them but the people I know that have them , some say they love them and some say they see no difference from their 103. You can’t go wrong with either but my experience is with the twin cam. So maybe I need to buy one so I can better help you guys with this decision. All I can say right now is that 2016s with 20k or less miles on them are going for around $12-15k and that’s a great price. Sorry to carry on I hope this helps. Like I said I think I need to get an M8 so I can answer this question.
Stevy Faux I actually have a 2018 Softail Lowrider with the new engine. It surprised me with how much power it has. My last Harley that I owned was a 1997 RK. Carbureted, with slip ons, and cam. It still wasn’t very fast compared to the M8. Of course, my 2018 is lighter and the motor is bigger. I miss my old RK, so I’ve started my search for one. I’m looking for a 2015 or 2016 RK. I don’t really need a brand new bike. I’ve seem quite a few low mileage bikes. I’m just glad to hear a good opinion on the TC motor. And like you mentioned, the prices are way better than a new one. I’m enjoying your channel. Ride safe!
