You can get extended bags with one touch like the 14+ a friend has some Amazon ones on his 08,road king. Advanblack and hog works sell them for the older bikes alms well. Man that road king is gorgeous
TALL THERES NOTHING LIKE CRUISING THE TWISTIES ON A ROADKING , THE 5 SPEED IS ALWAYS IN THE SWEET SPOT. NOTHING LIKE FAT CHROME SPOKES AND WHITE WALLS.
Yeah man. That blue looks sharp! Once you removed the tour pak and windshield it made a totally different look for the bike. Looking forward to that event that you were speaking of. Well done sir!
As your doing the modifications please let us know how much each mod is as well. Love that your taking us on this journey as you always do on your channel!!!
The blue is nice for sure. Personally I like the ability to add or remove the windshield and tour pack depending on the situation. Long multi-day trips with but maybe shorter runs without. Nice personal review of your bike…ride on!
I love the bike and your ideas are awesome follow your mind. You can't go wrong. I need to find one and make some changes to it. Thank you! for the video I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do.
I like the idea of the black spokes. I think they will look really good. Personally I don't care for white walls. But if that's what you want go for it.I really look forward to you building this bike. What I think is the coolest part about this bike is it you kept it in the family by getting it from your uncle instead of letting it go somewhere else.
My first H-D was a 2008 RK Classic 105th Anniversary Ed. I’m 6’5”. I had extended shift and brake levers, extended floorboards, tall boy seat, quick detach windshield & backrest. I installed H-D heritage bars. I liked the look of the chrome spokes and whitewalls. On a 2015 CVO RG Ultra now. Love it but still miss the King.
I love the color too! I think stay with the black wheel in the front. The white walls would look sweet! Not for sure about the bags. I know my wife’s brother in law took off the old bags and put the newer style on them. Not for sure what he done but I can find out. The seat I recommend Mean City Cycles. They are close to my town which made me want to help local businesses. But they do awesome work! They have a Facebook page and a website. Lots of options for the seat as well being able to change the seat cover as well. They can embroider on it too!! I have a Ultra Limited and a Fatboy as well and it’s fun to ride the Fatboy on these mountain roads here in North Carolina. If your ever up this way we will hit the parkway and hit some curves. Look forward to seeing what you do next!
I like the fat spokes, but I would do chrome. Those are not stock handle bars, those are beach bars, can't stand them myself. Geta detachable windshield, you'll thank me later. I had a 02 and I kept trying to shift to 6th on that thing! And yes you definitely need a tallboy seat! I have a 103 RK now and love it more than my 02,like the abs and cruise control, added power is a plus!
I have a 02 road king and has the same bar problem. Your bars are like mine. It appears that the bars are tilted down and the grips are not parallel to the road. TikTok them forward and try that. It helped me tremendously and I saved buying new hats for something that was fixed with just a minor adjustment. Also since you are tall you can get a seat that sets you back further and doesn’t crank your hips. Both adjustments will help. Keep riding! Love the video.
Love the content man!!! I just bought an 02 road king with a stage 2 and i will tell you from past twin cam 88s its all thats needed man. If you need more power than that i think your gonna mess up the reliability
Black spokes, new seat, apes and stretch bags with some 4.5 slip-on mufflers and ride the east Tennessee back roads . The use the street glide for speed and Memphis for a sunset ride .
Thanks for sharing Tall, I personally think the bike looked great with Tour Pak & Windshield, but, this is coming from a guy who runs with both of those on my 16’ Road King,, lol! My wife loves riding with me so Tour Pak comes in handy & we live close to the coast in South Texas where it’s windy all the time so windshield helps with that and the amount of BUG juice. Keep 2 on the ground and ride safe! Oh! Color is beautiful! Mine is dark blue. I have 12” bars, those bars are terrible from factory. I have 103 TC.
I was only half listening, but I agree. The Black Folks look great on those bikes.😉 I have a 2003 100th Anniversary RK, and I love, LOVE(!) the White Walls with chrome spokes. I also agree with your assessment of the Blues. I think HD makes some of the most beautiful shades of blue. However, when the black one fell into my lap, it was love at first, and every sight.
It looks great either way. I love my king so much either way. I ride mine with function in mind.. no pack when not needed. But it is a touring model so when i go distance that baby is on. The windshield is a must always. I love my king so much it's got 85000 miles and I've enjoyed all of those miles.
I have a beautiful 2k Road Kind with the 88 cubic inch. I've always been searching for the 6th gear and felt like it was screaming at 75 MHP I put a Dyno Jet turner on her and it made a huge difference. Keep riding and thanks for the videos.
TT, I had a 2005 RK Classic EFI that was a great bike - I added the H-D Tallboy seat and 12" apes... both made a big difference in comfort and styling. I'm also with you on removing the TourPak, speakers, and windshield... I did, too, but put the windshield back on after suffering the breeze at highway speeds. I traded it on my 2017 Road Glide Special, which is great for touring, but I sure miss the back road feel of the RK. Oh - I think you can find extended bags at Advanblack. Can't wait to see how you outfit it!
I agree. The bike has a lot of chrome, including the fork lowers. I don't think black spokes would pop like chrome wheels and chrome spokes. I would do 14"-16" chrome apes too.
Yep. My TC-88 02 Electra Glide has Stage 1 and 2 and will purr along all day at 80mph at 3200 rpm at half throttle. I still have plenty of passing power on top of it. The S&S 510cam doesn’t even kick in until 3000 rpm. I have no desire to upgrade to a newer bike. I just posted a video of a quick ride up some local twisties where I live.
Tall, I'm also tempted to put spokes on my '17 Superior Blue Roadking too. But think I'll comprimise and swap them for chrome stock wheels for about $800 then put wide white walls on those. Blue looks so good with the silver/blue tint that chrome has.
I agree , chrome spokes, more traditional Harley. 14 inch ape hangars, and yes a detachable windshield for the longer rides, and a removable chrome luggage, rack. I wouldn't mess with the rear wheel. You hardly see it, No real benefit for an 18 inch rear wheel. I would pass on that. Keep the videos coming 👍
Black spokes with white wall tires and ape's,and fish fin exhaust would really make that blue pop big time,I personally like the blue as my Tri Glide is also blue lol, nice ride even the way it sits brother,💯👊🏽😎
Nice Road King Tall love your videos you got a old soul bro I just bought a 99 Road King getting ready to make it my own also I got the 21 inch chrome mag wrapped around fender and rotors I think I may bet a batwing with a system built in and maybe speakers for the bags or a pizza box maybe 😉
I feel you. 19 SG will spoil you so bad. Every time I take my 99 Dyna on the interstate I feel like I’m holding on for dear life. Rode nothing but non fairing bikes until my SG and now I’m a big spoiled baby lol
Tall, the 2014 up bags fit the older models that also goes for the tour packs. I have a 08 FLHT and have 2014 and up saddle bags and touring pack, I used the 08 and down mounting bracket just drilled the holes to fit holes on my mount. I did not have to dremellout the saddle bags or the bracket they twist lock to. I plan on doing a video of my set up home this helps someone I couldn’t find anything when I was searching
Had a 2000 Road King. I just straight love that bike. I had a color matched fairing for longer travel but just the windshield around town. If yours is a 2003 you may be able to add cruise control.
Nice looking bike. I had a 1999 Aztec Orange RK, first year of the Twin Cam. Really liked that bike. Go with black legs if you do a black wheel. And you can run a 150 series on the back, no issue. I put one on my RK and my 2004 Classic. It may rub slightly when you roll the bike backwards, but will not run when you are riding. Like others have recommended , 12 or 14 inch KST bars. Good luck.
18” ape hangers. My 03 road king had spokes and 18” apes loved the look and being tall the 18’s really let me stretch out. I also had to to an extended reach seat. I had the LaPera villain daddy long legs. I love my current Road Glide but I sure do miss my RK
I enjoyed your video. I have the Road King 2021 in Billiard Red. I also get a lot of compliments on my bike. I feel that anybody can own a black Harley. But not everybody can handle a Harley of a different color. I'm going to be putting 16 inch ape hangers on mine. Looking at your heights you might need something like a 18 or 20 in ape hangers. You will definitely notice a difference in your shoulders if you do any long riding.
I have 14in ape hangers on my 07 road king, I'm 5'11 and they feel comfortable. Also my dad has one of those small windshields on is 02 and it looks good.
Howdy. Just throwing some ideas out there. It's your bike so change it to your liking. You might loose the bars and move them up till the grips are level with the ground. If nothing else it may help you get a better feel for new bars. Diamond cut spokes with white walls I think would look hot. With the color and chrome carrying on from front to rear I think would help carry the look. The seat has to fit you. The only problem I have with my wife white walls is keeping them clean. LoL Well just some thoughts. What ever you do I'm positive that it will look amazing. Besides it's a Road King.... They all look cool. Till next time brother. Be safe and have fun... Billy
This saddlebag latch was an improvement over the previous locking mechanism. The previous mechanism would allow the lid to fly off on the highway when it accidentally became unlatched.
The RK is looking way better! Black spokes sound cool looking forward to seeing it. Don't really think w.walls willlookright with the black spokes, but I do like to see the separation between black wheels and the tire...
Ya gotta have new bars and a new seat first!!! The current bars and seat makes you look like an NBA center trying to ride a mini bike!! JS. As for wheels I prefer cast wheels vs spokes, but it's your bike, so black spokes with chrome rims would work!! Definitely need new style extended bags with new latches. I can't wait to see the King's evolution!!!
Hey Tall, excellent video as per usual... About the new Shoes for your ride...... Try checking out the Bridgestone series ; BATTLECRUISE H50 tires. Sounds like they might be right up your alley. About the Drag-bars, what about reversing the direction of the handle bar mounts, so that they pull the bars away from you without changing the wrist angle ??? Stay Safe.
Sorry Tall, you have to upgrade the bags to get the one-touch latch for the saddle bags. I guess someone does make one that is similar to a one touch, but it requires drilling a hole for locks.
the new style bags are a direct swap did it on my 02. The saddle bags where the pin goes, the bracket needs a very slight adjustment and the tour pack you just drill the holes to fir the old style mount
Not sure about the latch but you can mount the rushmoore bags on the older bikes, check out SIk Baggers and ADvanblack. Really nice looking bike, love that color. Been looking for RK myself and checked out getting the newer bags. Black spokes could be interesting, sort like the Prodigy wheel on the RK Specials now, I think that what they are called.
Next to the RG🤔 the RK is my fav.... Although, If I had one...I’d make it my cruiser. I like the spokes...but I’d want to chrome the whole bike out and keep it classic. As for the bars, try some pullback 16in....too bad the bars on there are uncomfortable...I’ve never rode one. Great project to choose tho👍🏾
For you, you need some 18in apes and if you go with black spokes change the exhaust to black pipes to keep that flow going. You could also add a little bit more black in other areas to offset the rest of the bike happy trails
The beauty of that bike it’s keeping it original , it does look better with out the tour pack. I think chrome spokes and white walls would look the best. Chrome monkey bars would look good. 👍
If you are ever looking for a great windshield with detachable options look into Memphis Shades. Many styles to choose from. Memphis fats is the one I’m going with on my RK.
You can run advanblack new style extended bags and lids but you need to get special hardware / a grinder to mount them as the new style bags mount in a slightly different spot on the front bolt
I like the King w/o the tour pak and windshield. If it were mine I would change out that front fender. It looks kinda like the front fender of an Indian and u know we can have that !!!! As for the spokes and white walls I would have to compare on site.. But either one would look good. THANKS for sharing !!!
Tall 90% of the bikes you see at events/rallies are black because it’s the only color with no up charge. I never have had a black harley. They are all some sort of color in the least and I prefer two tone paint scheme. What’s nice about it is, I have no problem finding my bike at bike night when it’s time to ride home. Keep that bike in its factory color and all accessories need to be chrome. Then get that thing to zippers and make it a in town/touring monster.
Love everything of the 'after' setup, except the signature aux lamps are missing?! One of my favorite looks. I'm considering a used RK since they killed the chrome for '23. Enjoy!
