I bought a new 2020 Triumph Street Twin! I explain why I bought it, and why I didn't buy other bikes that I looked at. Yes, there are reasons.
Correction: The Street Twin has stock dual exhausts, which sound great, but are not Vance & Hines as I was told. Thank you @Jonathan Vogel for noticing and providing research info!
Subscribe to join the DMC (Decco Motorcycle Club) as we talk motorcycles. We have purchased the following bikes since 2019, some in multiples: Indian Chief Dark Horse, Kawasaki Ninja 650, Honda Rebel 1100, Honda Rebel 500, Triumph Street Twin, Kawasaki Vulcan S 650, Zero SR/S, Honda CBR500R, KTM 390 Duke, and the rowdy little Honda Grom 125!
The name of the channel will be changing soon from Sal At Decco Ranch to @mcSal. It will happen when RU-vid is ready to roll out the new handles.

Thank you! The Street Twin is an amazing bike. As of this date, if I had to choose just one bike from all that I have had (Triumph Street Twin, Honda Rebel 500, Kawasaki Vulcan S 650, Zero SR/S, Honda Rebel 1100 DCT, Honda Rebel 1100 Manual, KTM 390 Duke, and the little Honda Grom), I would take the Street Twin.

One of the Best reviews of the Street Twin I have seen yet. Had one but replaced with a 2014 Honda CB1100. Nice bike, but there is something special about a Triumph. If you have one, you know what I’m saying.

Enjoyed the review, thanks! You covered a few things that are often missed out in reviews I immediately liked the Street Twin as has more modern touches but still retro, compared with the Bonnie. I've decided to go with the latter though as it has a higher seat height and I'll swap out some parts to make it more modern looking.

No way Sal, the Triumph's 270-deg crank engine beats the pants off the engines on both the Kawasaki & Honda. 270-deg & 360-deg cranks are the only inline twins worth considering, 180-deg crank twins sound hollow, sanitized & soulless... and they only get worse with loud exhausts. Wife wants one of these, so I took her to Triumph (where I bought the new Tiger) & Royal Enfield to check out the Interceptor 650 & Continental GT. All were fantastic & they all have 270-deg cranks which give them so much character when u twist the throttle. Unlike weedy 180-deg inline twins, 270-deg crank twins sound absolutely wikked with aftermarket exhausts. Beasts!!

Great video! I enjoyed the comparison with the other bikes you have since I always wonder how different it would be to ride something else. I bought a good as new 2018 matte black Street Twin a year ago and I love it. I added a grill on the front light and swapped the halogen bulb for a brighter LED. Not planning to change anything else since the bike looks great as it is. I clocked 3000 miles so far and still have a smile on my face! Have fun!

Thank you! And thank you for sharing about your Street Twin! It truly is an awesome bike. Have you noticed any negatives about it that you can share? The only negative I’ve noticed is the heat blowing off the engine past your legs. It hasn’t bothered any of us, but could bother some people. Have you noticed it?
@Virtualmix
@Virtualmix 3 года назад
@@mcSal Yes in summer I can feel the engine heat near my legs when I stop at a traffic light but it doesn't bother me and it's nice on cooler days. My biggest complain is the lack of a sixth gear, I find myself wanting to continue shifting past 5. As a result the bike is really confortable on the highway at speed up to 70mph but faster than that and the engine stars to run in the higher RPM range, which is fine to pass a few cars but not the best power setting for cruising. It can easily do 90+mph but it's happier at 70mph and under. Not a big complain and keeps me at reasonable speeds on the highway. Otherwise I love the retro look and the handling. The engine sound is perfectly tuned, enough to enjoy it without waking up the entire neighborhood. Overall a well thought out bike.

Glad I found this video. I'm window shopping for my first full-size bike and the Triumph Street Twin and Scrambler came into my radar as alternatives to the Ducati scrambler look I was digging (not that Ducati tax though). I want a functional, reliable, but also tough and sexy-enough bike I can sling around on street errands/joy rides, and occasional off roading. And ideally without burning a hole in my pocket for annual maintenance. The Triumph is looking to be the one! Thanks for a great comparison with other rad rides.

While the Street Twin is a beautiful bike and I'll be getting one, your Harley friends are completely wrong about the Sportster and their comments are typical. Most dislike the Sportster because it's cheaper yet quicker. There's a difference between being quick and fast. I've had my Sportster for 23 years. She's a sleeper for sure and I have no intention of EVER getting rid of her. She is 100% reliable and has NEVER left me stranded! Thanks for making the video but I have to go watch more Street Twin videos! :😀 Please post how or if you're still in love with your bikes! Ride safe!

I love my bikes! Each is awesome for different reasons. I sold two bikes (Honda Rebel 1100 DCT and KTM 390 Duke), so I have an opening in the shop and would be open to another bike if it really grabbed me. I did a test ride on the new HD Nightster 975 cc, and it was Awesome! It put a smile on my face! I already have 6 bikes, so it would need to be really special to make me want a 7th bike.

I got the 2016 Triumph Street twin used three years ago. Put on Mototech bags which look great and never wash out and zip out for extra room. I have the fly windshield which the original owner put on. I added crash bars which also look real nice. I take it to work, food shopping and once across the state. I can ride for about three hours before I need to get off. It's not a boat of luxury but that's what I love about it. It works fantastic in heavy traffic. Balances on the slow ride so easily. Will take corners nicely. I have trouble with it on the interstate but suspect that's more me than the bike. It's not the buffeting but I feel like I can max out at about 65 and then I feel like I'm on a broomstick that is riding me so it's hard to be comfortable and keep up with traffic. So for long rides I avoid interstates. Four-lane highways are fine. When I get off it, whether coming from work or food shopping or wherever, I just stare at it and think, boy this is the only way to get around. It is a joy to ride.

Great video. I've test rode one recently. Very special bike, no doubt. This 270° crankshaft parallel twin sounds like heaven and the bike itself rides decently more than expected, even though lacks top end power and could have a sixth gear and a tachometer, too. Maybe that's why Triumph has made a Speed Twin 1200, but for twice the price... Even so, the Street Twin definitely catch me, and It got to my secret possible next bikes list!

I plan to test right a Street Twin and T100 this week. I've always wanted a Triumph and getting older I've begun to downsize things a bit. I sold my BMW K75 because its high slung weight and my growing arthritis made it begin to feel cumbersome. The Street Twin is 150 pounds lighter and the weight is lower so I'm hoping it will feel right. My only real concern is whether my 6'2" body will feel cramped. Great reflections on the Triumph in your video. It was helpful to me. Thanks!

I love the Triumphs and Indians. The build quality is beautiful to see. The ST has a nice throaty rumble. My son has long legs and he enjoys riding the ST. The slightly sporty leg position makes it a great bike for many sizes of riders and legs. Good luck on your quest and ride safe!

Love the video. I currently have the 2020 Rebel 500 (Matte Blue Jean Metallic) and am wanting SO BAD to upgrade to the Ironstone Street Twin (we obviously have the same taste and colors in motorcycles)! I've only had the Rebel for 10 months now but I am IN LOVE with the Street Twin! My wife, however, is "challenging" my wanting to to upgrade so soon. Don't get me wrong, I love my Rebel, but this Street Twin is just too beautiful to ignore! I'm also hoping the extra 400ccs will help the engine run a bit smoother in the 50-60mph range. Your thoughts on that???
@mcSal
@mcSal 3 года назад
You are absolutely correct in every way! After riding the Street Twin, I now notice that the Rebel 500 has to work much harder than the Street Twin at high speeds. The Street Twin is just having fun, while the Rebel 500 is working hard to maintain. The Street Twin is loaded with torque, which I love. Both bikes are very easy to ride. I’m working on a comparison video with the Rebel 500.

@@mcSal Well Sal, you are correct: "I absolutely love it"! The Rebel was a fun bike to learn and ride on, but the ST feels like a "Cadillac" ride. Very smooth, very easy to handle, and TONS of torque power! I will NEVER sell this bike! I added the bar-end mirrors and side tank (knee) pads. The bar-end mirrors are really nice. They give you a much better view, and also "open-up" the front of the bike for fewer distractions looking forward when riding. And the sound. Oh my gosh! That deep, British "rumble" sound is amazing. No need to consider after-market exhausts on this baby! The best thing I like about the ST is now to hit 50 mph I only need to shift once! On the Rebel, I was in 6th gear by the time I hit 50. This bike screams "quality" from head to toe!

Thank you! The Triumph Street Twin is already a favorite with everyone in my group, including 3 Harley riders. Be aware, there is heat blowing off the ST engine past your legs. It didn’t bother any of us, but I can see someone not liking that when at a standstill in hot weather. But the ST has tons of get up and go! And super nimble, which is also big with me. The Scrambler 1200 seat height is tall for me, so I did look at the Scrambler 900. The exhaust pipes are up high and against your leg, and I was warned about the heat from them, so passed on the Scramblers. The Street Triple R Low still interests me. I wish you luck on your search, and ride safe.

Awesome review. I was wondering since you own both, which would you recommend for a beginner’s first bike, between the Rebel and the Street Twin?
@mcSal
@mcSal 3 года назад
It depends. Both are great bikes. Taller riders would feel better on the Street Twin, due to the smaller rider triangle (handlebars to seat to foot pegs) on the Rebel. The ST has a lot more power, torque, very nimble, loud pipes, is easy to ride, and is a super fun bike. It is a good one to grow into. The Rebel 500 is a solid bike for someone needing confidence or not overly aggressive. The Rebel is easy to ride, nimble (but not as much as the ST), not going to jump out from under you, very fuel efficient, known to be extremely reliable over time, much quieter than the ST, much cheaper than the ST, and it's just a good, solid bike. I enjoy them both, but I would select the ST over the Rebel 500 if it were me.

Yes, if you hug the tank with your knees like a sports bike. If you were to test ride this bike for 5 minutes, you would notice the heat if you feel the engine with your hands. The Tiger, when I sat on it, felt like a 3 story tall building where I had to look up to see the display. It was huge! And I felt tiny on it. The salesman suggested I test ride the Street Twin, and I loved the eager, nimble ride. Couldn’t get it out of my mind after that ride. And the pipes sound great!

I have the Rebel 500 and love it. Problem ist the passengers seat. My wife wants to join me sometimes, but I do not want to torture her on that so called seat. So I am thinking on buying a new bike. At the moment my favorites are the Triumph street twin and the 2021 Motoguzzi V7 Stone. I have to figure out, which one I like most. Have to book test rides in the next weeks and try to make a decission. Your video makes me lean more to the Triumph I have to say.

@@ThereIsProbablyNoGod I rode both the Street Twin and the Rebel 500 tonight each 50 miles, and thought of you as I rode them. The Rebel 500 was really never designed for a passenger, although you know you can make do, if needed. It’s too soft in the suspension for two people, doesn’t have enough power to move quickly with two on board, and the Honda passenger seat is minimal as you know. The Street Twin (900 cc) is almost double the cc’s, has 20 more horsepower @ 65 hp, and a very comfy long seat. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the MotoGuzzi.
@ThereIsProbablyNoGod

@@mcSal I took a passenger with my Rebel once. It was my 23yr old daughter whos weight is somewhere around 45kg. I did not really feel any difference to riding alone, except I heard her comments about the lack of comfort over the intercomm. So I will not even think about taking my wife with me. I just watched some more videos about the Street Twin and I think it is my favorite. I will try to testride the Triumph and the Motoguzzi next week. What speaks for the Guzzi is the cardan shaft and the 21l fuel tank. And the cool looks of the V-motor. And it should have a very comfy seat. It also should be very nimble. There are many things that speak for the Triumph though. What I also have to take into account is the dealership. Ther nearest (25km) Motoguzzi dealer is the same where I bring the Rebel for service. He has Honda and Motoguzzi. The nearest Triumph dealer is about double the way, but the dealer, where I bought my Rebel has also Triumph, but he is about 180km away. So many things to consider. Not an easy task to find the right bike. I do not have the space for more than 2 bikes and my second bike at the moment is a Husqvarna 401 for my son. If I had a garage like you, I would probably have some more bikes. Considering that, it is better, I do not have that much space.😉

Yes, it is a stock seat. At 5’4”, I can’t flat foot the Street Twin, but come close enough. It feels light when on it and a joy to ride. The taller guys like riding it too, because of the slightly rearward pegs. If you can get your tippy toes down, that’s good enough. 👍🏼

I loved the look of the Speedmaster and really thought it would be my next bike. When I rode it, the clutch and front brake were a long way for my fingers to reach, but that could have been adjusted. The biggest issue was turns. I like bikes that love leaning into turns and curves. The Speedmaster likes going straight far more than making turns. I felt like I had to fight it into turns. When I mentioned it to the salesperson, he agreed and said the Speedmaster was best on long, straighter rides. But the Street Twin is amazing on turns/curves! Anybody riding it here loves its performance. I like to put windshields and saddlebags on my bikes, so I pretty much turned the Street Twin into a sporty cruiser. How do you like your Kawi W650?

The bike is too tall to flat foot, but the balls of my feet are down and that's all I need. I'm 5'4" tall, 128 pounds on any given day. Ninja is 5' 1 1/2" tall and loves the bike. Mike is 5'10" tall and loves the bike. The long comfortable seat makes it easy for all sizes of people. I think it would be a bike you can start with, understanding it has a lot of get up and go so stay easy on the throttle. It’s not a bike you will outgrow anytime soon. It will also entertain advanced riders because of its responsiveness and how nimble it is. And any size rider can find it comfortable. If you can go easy on the throttle, it could work well as a beginner bike that you can continue to enjoy as your skills increase.

Hey. My missus hates motorbikes. If I moved to America, would you marry me? I already have a Street Twin so we could ride off into the Californian sunset together. Alternatively, you could come to the UK and we could ride around in the pouring rain and freezing cold. Hmmm. On a more serious note. I also own an Indian Scout and although I love the looks, the Triumph is much "easier" to get on with. I also looked at the Royal Enfield which is very popular over here but it felt cheap in comparison to the Triumph. The one that surprised me though is the Honda NC750 which has the appearance of the most boring bike in the world but is actually a brilliant, practical and economical bike but lacks the style of the Triumph. I do find myself getting on the Honda more than the Triumph though. Just so long as I'm not going anywhere I'm likely to be seen. Guess the Honda admission might have blown the marriage proposal... @@mcSal The Honda is very similar in engine response to the Triumph. Not quite as much "Oomph" but close and still plenty enough for my uses. The big selling point is that it does 80mpg and petrol prices in the UK can mean that economy makes a difference. Nowhere near the "style" of the Triumph though and, perhaps surprisingly, the fit and finish isn't quite as good on the Honda. At the end of the day, the Honda is practical and sensible but, much though I hate to admit it, if I was going to a biker gathering, I'd be on the Triumph. Vanity is a strange mistress. I also own a MV Agusta Brutale if I want to go mad and in a completely pointless attempt at feeling 21 again. Unfortunately, half an hour later it just goes to show me I'm very much not. You're right. They both do have their own sound and character. But, when you compare the Triumph to the Japanese bikes (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki) vs Harley Davidson bikes, which one does it best align with? Answer..... Harley! That's because the Triumph has a much meatier sound than the Japanese bikes (the HD's have an even meatier sound), and the Triumph definitely has it's own distinct character (as do the HD's). The HD's are in a league of their own when it comes to sound, but I was just saying the Triumph is more like a Harley in sound and character than it is to a Japanese type bike.
