1. Mute and volume button is on your steering wheel (super fast and easy to access) 2. Heater, you can "crank it up to 90" by pressing just one button... 3. Rear spoiler raises by touching the raise button 4. 5. 6... and so on... maybe just read the manual before using? ))) btw, thank you for the review...

I have had a Taycan for 6-months, there are multiple things wrong with his review. Please note this is his first EV and he is definitely not familiar with it. Once you become familiar with it, you will love this vehicle. Charging is much easier than he makes it seem. Rear spoiler raises by touching the raise button electronically It is more tech than a regular car. So new EV drivers will have a learning curve like him.

good video. Some of your concerns are easily fixed or learned. First... the radio volume issue...that is a non-issue because there is a thumb wheel right on the steering wheel that adjusts radio volume very quickly. secondly, the home charging issue is resolved by setting a charging profile. Your charger at home is set to charge to a minimum charging level very quickly and then stop. You have to adjust the minimum charging level up to 85%. Then the charger will charge to 85% and stop. If you turn on direct charging on the app, the charger will charge up to 100%. Electrify America is a little clunky right now but it is getting better everyday.

1. Car turns off if you lock it. No need to push and hold button 2. Two finger scroll on the bottom screen controls volume more quickly than button (also scroll wheel on steering wheel) 3. It does have a transmission 4. The car you have doesn’t go 0-60 in under three seconds!

You're having Porsche problems, not EV problems. I was a Nissan tech when the Leaf came out. I went to classes in California before it came out. We had no problems servicing them and they were rarely ever in service. In fact, I ended up buying a brand new '15 Leaf and drove it to work every day. The service manager let me charge it at work, so I didn't even need a home charger for it. Had it for 2 years. Only expense was one cabin filter. BTW, the battery doesn't self destruct at 10 years. The warranty runs out, but the battery will be fine. There are first gen Priuses out there running around with their original battery.

I had a Nissan Leaf before I bought my Taycan and you are right, there are NEVER any problems with the Leaf. It is probably the most reliable electric you can buy. The Taycan, comparably, is completely over-specd and the electronics frequently go wrong, usually temporarily and usually it sorts itself. BUT what a car the Porsche Taycan is. I had it for nearly 2 months now and it makes me smile every day. What a drive it is, how intelligently it is engineered, the looks, the design and the quality of the interior - amazing. And it is a real head turner. I absolutely love this car and the opportunity to drive a green Porsche. But if you want a reliable move from A to B, the Nissan Leaf it absolutely the best you could pay for.

Since we are all on this planet together, my hope is that we can come together and develop policies that are good for us individually, us collectively, and for the earth itself. Perhaps if more of us understood the science and engineering underlying electric vehicles and other technologies, we would have more personal freedoms and developing a type of transportation that we want. Earlier this year I bought a downscale EV - a Hyundai Kona SEL. About the cheapest new EV you can get with 280-300 miles of range. I charge it overnight and on the weekends using a regular plug in my garage. I have been driving it 450 - 500 miles per week with no issues so far. Super cheap to charge...barely a blip on my monthly electric bill. So far, best commuter car that I've ever owned - and I'm getting that same $7500 tax credit.

There is a lot of research on battery life but the ideal charge range is to keep the battery between 65-80 %. To replace them is relatively cheap $15k, and Porsche plans to make all future Taycan batteries interchangeable so 10 years from now you can just buy the most update tech and swap it into your older Taycan.

Sounds like you are going through all the normal EV learning curves. I agree with your comments about folks at the dealerships being all wet behind the ears with EV knowledge. I went to my local Nissan dealer and was handed off to some "electric vehicle specialist" who did clearly know the difference between level 1, 2 and 3 charging and did not realize how obscure the type of level 3 charge connector is on a Leaf. I would also suggest getting an electrician to look at your 240 volt circuit and make sure it has enough amperage to run your EVSE. One of the learning curves about EV charging is realizing that all the "charging" electronics is on your car and the unit that commonly gets called an EV Charger is really an EV Supply Equipment device. It is a high quality cord and some standardized electronics that mostly lets the charger on your car know how many amps it is about to get and runs some relays to delay turning things on (to protect you from your wet cable scenario). I would also suggest that people shopping for an EVSE to make sure they buy something that is future compatible for the scenario of having another EV or pluggable hybrid need to charge in the same garage. Most houses have a 200 amp panel so running two 40-60 amp circuits to charge two EVs is not likely to happen, but there are designs were two EVSEs an "share" one high amp circuit and save folks from having to "babysit" their EV charging process. I also thought the Porsche Taycan had a two speed gear box in it so it could go faster? Jay Leno did a test ride in one a while back and discusses this a bit.

Enjoyed watching your experience. I'm very intrigued by the porche ev experience. As an multiple EV owner I would like to correct you on this video for assuming because the battery is warrantied for 10 years that means you have to buy a expensive new battery the next day after warranty expires. It's a bad narrative to push I hear alot from gas car owners in which I quickly ask them what their warranty is on their engine and transmission. With that said in 30 years of driving I never got more than 200k miles on a gas powered car before engine seized and the last 50k miles was very expensive with rebuilding transmissions. Meanwhile we now have some battery life data coming in from early Teslas and 400 to 500k miles and still going strong. There are videos on youtube with Tesla with 1m miles. Simply put the cost of total ownership is not even remotely close. Lastly don't buy any porche period if it's a daily driver in very cold icy regions without a warm garage with fast charging. Just erase that whole thing in this video. Wrong car bought if that's you. Should be your second car if so. For Porche owners ask the gas powered 911 turbo owners what their iolite change and service bills are? You won't fo any of those tasks with the EV

The reality is that -in total you spend way less time charging compared to fuelling because most of the time you charge at home. No need to drive to get fuel. -the TCO is lower compared to fossil fuel cars in most countries -in general EV's last longer than fossil fuel cars. So is cost about $18 to fully charge it? And it goes about 200mi. My Cayenne go 600mi on a full tank with premium fuel right now where i lived it cost about $80 to fuel if it from an empty tank. So the Taycan need $54 to go 600mi. So i’m saving about 32% cost but it will cost a lot more when the battery die. Also I don’t think I’m gonna buy a Porsche sedan for commute so I’m gonna buy a Panamera for my weekend drive and use the Cayenne as daily

I've owned 3 Porsches (ICE not EV) and they were incredible vehicles to drive and I got a lot of enjoyment from them. I seriously considered getting a Taycan when it first became available however I ended up getting a Tesla instead and I just recently got a second Tesla for my wife. While the Taycan has great looks and "fit and finish" it's not a Tesla. I've driven my Tesla cross country multiple times with no "range anxiety". Plenty of Tesla superchargers available and they all worked. I have tried both Charge Point and Electrify America chargers (Teslas come with an adapter) on a few occasions and my experiences were less than good. I somehow always managed to find the broken or malfunctioning chargers at those locations and for the most part they were low power slow chargers. Given enough time I'm sure that Porsche will get the Taycan working well and hopefully the charging infrastructure will also improve...good luck with your next Taycan.

Great video! Can you get us some factual data on how much each charge costs and how many miles you get on that charge? I would also love to know how many kWh each charge takes because home electrical rates vary across the country and I could calculate how much each mile would actually cost me in electricity. I see all of these EV owners telling me their great cars go 400 miles on a charge of $6.00 and haven’t seen any real proof. I would also like to know how extreme cold affects the battery. (I live in South Dakota and 20-30 below zero temps are common here)
@EfficientRVer
@EfficientRVer 2 года назад
This battery is 79.2 kWh, call it 80. So $8 if you pay 10 cents, $16 if you pay 20 cents. My Prius Prime is EPA rated 133mpge in electric mode, and my actual cost per mile with 10 cent electricity, is 2 cents per mile. It would require 7.5 cent electricity for me to get 400 miles out of $6. The Taycan is rated 79mpge, so if it does as well relative to EPA as my car does, with 10 cent electricity you're paying 2 cents times 133/79 = 3.37 cents per mile. That's if you don't deviate from calm EPA test driving more in the Porsche than I do in a Prius Prime. You probably will. Figure 4 cents per mile with 10 cent electricity if you don't go wild. Below +32F battery temp (not air temp, though obviously if it sits for enough hours, they become the same) most EVs won't allow you to charge. Hope you have a heated garage. I don't know how the Porsche battery is cooled or heated. Maybe it heats itself with some of the charging juice, maintains temp if plugged in, etc. Some EV batteries are air cooled, some liquid cooled. My 2017 Prius Prime battery is just air cooled. In NH winters, I often am unable to charge it, but don't care because I have a gas engine in it also. So, driving and heating up the car, blowing outdoor air through the heater (which then exhausts through the battery if I'm not on recirc, so I'm never on recirc) eventually heats or cools my battery to around cabin temp. Driving in EV mode also heats the battery from internal losses. The battery isn't too efficient when it's cold, but at least it does work, unlike charging when the battery is too cold. I highly recommend that you find out the technical details of what the car does in very cold weather to warm up the battery and allow charging. Also, whether or not there's a battery heater you can turn on when the car is off and not plugged in.
@bluerootz
@bluerootz 2 года назад
EVs perform worse in the cold but especially extreme cold. They’re best in milder climates but ok even into the single digits. Probably not worth it in the extreme cold though it just depends on how much you drive. Depending on where you live you might charge for free. I don’t bother charging at home because there’s a fast charger in town that’s free. Also, Porsche gives you 3 years of free charging at Electrify America so you basically get free fuel on longer trips.
@Rudevette
@Rudevette 2 года назад
@@bluerootz there is no free charging. It’s just paid for by somebody else. I have a friend who owns a towing business and it’s amazing how many people get a tow in ev’s in the winter here (northeast South Dakota) after trying to drive their new car electric car in the cold. They all say they’re getting rid of it when they get home. That being said, if a person has a 3-6 month old ev and wants to get rid of it, how hard is that to do? Is it a 30% deduct or a real fire sale?
