Alright, true story: I was at a bar in LA. Not even a fancy one, just some small random spot. I got drunk so I stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. Guess who walks past? Shia Labeouf (I almost didn’t recognize him, he looks different in person) Anyway, I stop him and we start talking. He was hella chill. Asked me for a cigarette while we talked. Remember I’m drunk, so I’m just asking hella questions. He’s laughing and answering them the best he could. Then I SPECIFICALLY asked him does he still talk to Ren (I was smashed and couldn’t remember her real name) He said “nah, we kinda went different ways. But that’s still sis though, you know?” He didn’t elaborate like he had done with my previous questions, but that was also the question he answered with the most sincerity

@@kgal1298 Yea, but basically this same concept goes for many different TV shows on many different networks. So many costars that had great chemistry on the show and were written as best friends or lovers are often either exes in real life or not friends at all OR they actively dislike each other (like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester). Another somewhat recent example is Lucy Hale not being actual friends with the rest of the girls. They are friendly and seem to be nice to each other and on good terms, but Lucy is not friends with Troian, Shay, and Ashley like those three are with each other. It actually seems like Lucy is closer to Janel and Sasha (even though Sasha is a lot younger than the rest of the cast, she is about 10 years younger than Shay and Troian). I know Lucy and Ashley were friends before PLL even started but I don’t think they are much now, and that’s okay! Fans literally would lose their mind anytime that Shay, Troian, and Ashley hung out together and posted on Instagram. Lucy has had to clarify several times that there’s no animosity but they are just different people and don’t really hang out like that.
It’s more of us growing up also and realizing that these kid actors literally had jobs and it was treated like a paying job lol While they was making money moves, I was running home to watch Even Steven’s at 5pm with a bag of Doritos.

I remember he put on an event where he recorded his reaction to all of his films. When he watched The Even Stevens Movie, his eyes lit up and he was laughing throughout it. You could see how fond he was of the cast 😊

She might’ve been a big sister for millions of generations but I can’t even understand what she’s saying you know she probably felt bad for Shia. I really love your honesty. Normalize feeling feelings, owning up to your wrongs, and not always having the full picture. You do a great job of telling things from your perspective without trampling over what the other person might have been going through. Nobody in life has it figured out. We are all out here trying to feel joy, and learn in the moments where none is felt.
You know, I was thinking that this is an awkward topic for her I'm sure. Maybe it goes as far as being uncomfortable for her. So I don't know if she would know what to do with herself if she was sitting in a chair or had to stand still trying to talk about this. Walking helps release the excess adrenaline/emotions, like a stress ball. And it's simply good exercise. Kill two birds with one stone.
The ending almost made me cry. We were the generation that grew up with this show and I’ll forever admire your strengths to continue living life and growing even through all these hardships. I just love that she's living her life as comfortable as she wants it to be...despite Shia's success...a lot of us had to worry about him which is not ok. So I'm proud of her and I wish Shia nothing but good health as he keeps maturing.
I honestly hope that one day you two can reconnect and talk about the past and hopefully forge a strong friendship. With the recent death of Matthew Perry and hearing that the whole cast are close, but only all met together as a group twice after show ended in 2004. You realize life is too short and you always will regret not having a chance to reconnect with the people you love.
I loved Even Stevens as a kid and recently watched the whole series again with my kids. You all have brought so much joy into people's lives. I really hope that joy comes right back to you guys in your own lives. 🙏
I'm 28. Even Stevens was best child show I've ever seen. Not particularly close either. Appreciate your part in creating such a masterpiece. Obviously Shia is special acting but the entire cast really worked well together and were great in their own right.

Agreed! Tbh Christy wasn’t on my radar until she had an old friend of mine on her show. But her energy is radiant and her truth resonates so strongly with me, I immediately became a subscriber. Love her authenticity. Definitely an extension of coming from a loving and supportive family/support system.
I always say this, but this woman has more class and integrity than any celebrity I've watched on TV. She sincerely seems like she would be a wonderful friend to have in life. I love the content she puts out and wish her the deepest success in her life.

He may have walked longer than 20. There are a lot of cuts in this (probably has to reshoot every sentence multiple times because of extraneous noise or finding a better way to phrase it).

That was such a special time in life, and the further removed we are from it the more I appreciate it. They say it's not healthy to be too nostalgic, but how can one not be with the way life and this world are now? I'd go back in a heartbeat. P.S. You kinda remind me of my sister, Christy. I'm very lucky to have her and I wish Shia could have had a similar sister figure in his life. As a male, it's such a uniquely positive influence growing up with an older sister. Friendships aren’t always perfect. And you don’t need someone to tell you that you are friends for it to be true. You were very honest and talked very nicely. I feel like he let his shit get the best of him and lost track of everyone else. So im sure that at the end of the day you guys are more than just regular friends. Being envious is a natural thing. We should try to normalize this emotion so we could handle and fix this behaviour. Saying "i'm so happy for you!!!" through gritted teeth doesn't hide your true colors nor it makes anything better
I always say this “why do people expect actors/actresses to be friends when they started in a TV show/movie together? Most of us aren’t friends with our co-workers either, so why are they held to that standard?”
I think it's cause of the type of work they do. And a lot of the audience for these shows are kids and teens so you probably don't realize that acting is just a job. But also I'd argue that a lot of people have difficulty making friends and they may only be friends with their coworkers. I think it's also cause actors do an intimate kind of work where they're putting a part of themselves out there for the world to see and can be affected by the stories they're portraying.
It’s because people (both kids and adults) get attached to these actors as their characters. I think people get lost in the show/movie and start to believe that what they’re watching on screen translates to real life.
I’m very interested (and refreshed) by the trend of actors taking back the narrative and just simply explaining the truth. They’re people, they knew people only through working relationships and life happens just as organically.

I like how transparent you are and have no shame in admitting how you felt at that time. It’s also expected that just because you worked on a show for a certain time, it honestly didn’t mean you knew each other too well. I think as an audience we often forget that actresses and actors are just coworkers at the end of the day. Just like the average person wouldn’t be as close to each of their coworker.

Grew up loving your show but I’ve never seen you outside of acting. I’m glad I saw this video because girl you are a gem. You are so relatable and someone I could see really being friends with. Is it common for people to assume people stay in touch with their show families? Whiles close bonds can be formed, it is a job, and when you boil it down, they’re simply co-workers. It’s a beautiful gift when you click with and form life-long friendships with those you meet on set. Just have to navigate through all the egos and politics. 🦈
To me, I would imagine it feels like "going to school" with these people, and when the show comes to an end its "the end of the year" and they always say they will keep in touch but just lose each other along the way.
@@taylorm7777 It’s pretty much this. They could have been the best of friends. But when the common denominator is cut, aka the show ends, they lose the thing that keeps them together. It’s like a piece of string getting cut. Without the show, they have no reason to see other anymore.
There were big-ish headlines around Ashley Tisdale saying she doesn’t see Brenda Song anymore…people assume if you were on a popular show and played BFFs or siblings, you were like family. And then there was the whole Drake Bell/Josh Peck thing with Josh’s wedding…although now with the latest stuff happening with Drake, I feel like more fans will be understanding if Josh wants to keep his distance. But it does seem to happen a lot, since fans become invested in these people, so then the stars talk about it.

Shia seems like a very intelligent, complex person who has been through a lot in life. He’s had a great career too, I mean even recently with Peanut Butter Falcon, that movie was incredible. I loved this explanation, it all felt very honest and made sense!

I loved how you kept your integrity even after Disney. Most fall into this whirlpool where their identity is sacrificed for their fame. As a kid, I watched Even Stevens a lot and you were my role model. I always thought you're so gorgeous and smart and I wanted to be like you. I felt this strange kinship with Ren Stevens. And I always thought you must be very smart even in real life.
The part about having a limited amount of energy to invest in people really got to me. At the end of the day you choose were you get your good vibes from and accepting healthy influences is just self love.

Just got to the Reese Witherspoon part and got chills. I feel like her career - whether the acting part or the entrepreneurial side - is in the cards for you still! You're right that while it may have felt dismissive at the time it was a huge compliment. Lol now I want you and Reese to hang out.
@Spring Cardinal I think because as she said she was a theater kid and took acting VERY seriously, maybe because although she was big this would have been before 2003 when even stevens ended and Reese wasn't an win an Oscar kinda actress. This was obviously a few years before Walk the line so now with perspective it's a massive compliment but back then she hadn't reached her full potential and Christy probably wanted him to say someone bigger/more award winning.
@Spring Cardinal Legally Blonde was the changing point for Reese's career because it showed the industry she could do more versatile roles than sole romantic comedies. Legally Blonde was a comedy with substance that showed determination and wit in Reese that her other roles hadn't.

I wasn’t sure where this was going to go and I didn’t think I’d watch it. But I’m glad I did. I think it makes a lot of sense that you were both kids back then. You both came from different worlds. And I’m glad you can look back on things and realize both of your strengths and weaknesses and where you feel you went wrong.
