Its okay to not like what everyone likes. Not sure why this need a justification. I easily get bored from games like Fornite, cod, etc. But I get why people love these action packed type of games. We are all different and should play what we like

@aamonwilliams5467 the real difference in bg3 and dos2 is the cut scene graphics. Now with the level of hype and the sales that has generated this has gotten it is undoubtedly going to be an extremely attractive option for aaa studios. The profit margins are super high. Especially when you consider that aaa studios have drastically better engines, assets, mocap, programmers, animators, budgets etc.... they could really do what larian has done only better. But not if they were to also do action. Turn based is cheap and simple. Now they may be tempted to cut action from a lot of games because people are over hyping and saying this turn based boring game is not only acceptable but better than action games. I expect there is going to be a large response from aaa studios. I hope I am wrong because this is boring.

I dont think he should get hate, I feel it's completely reasonable that he feels that way. And who is to blame? I believe is us. We keep buying games that make us like that. We should buy games and spend time in those which REALLY are video games are not a dopamine expender. I felt the same a long time ago when thinking or strategizing it was just boring or too slow. Yeah I made a steam review of the first act during early access "i dont feel betrayed or let down but i do feel bored" and my review got review bombed by an angry mob. Seeing as I was unable to refund I tried it again... and again... about 4 or 5 attempts to give it an honest try. I and others would say on the forums, "why are the only voice options for every race the exact same personality if this is an RPG; the bog standard posh suburban young adult archetype"... and the amount of vitriol we would get for simply raising the question from emotionally attached sexuality explorers was peak. Ultimately their only defense was "its alpha stop complaining bigot". Well many years later and after release the voice options are the same as in early alpha. But they did get sex with a bear implemented so I guess there's that. Simply put, the story and characters feel like a San Fransisco beach party dating sim, more than an RPG. Which is fine... I guess people who say they like DND have never played it and are fine with pretending a Soap Opera is the same thing. Or furries and Anime enjoyers are just die hard about the game because they play weird dating sims anyway.

I'm not even talking about the opinions about him not liking things I'm talking about when he makes statements like the camera is so far away. You can't see your character or the customization you did. That's not true. The camera can be zoomed in and you can keep it there. You also see your characters customization in dialogue. Also, when you started to insult the people who like the romance aspect of the game, I'm pretty sure he's doing it just to get a rise out of people which classifies as bait.
I wouldn't touch BG3, because I wanted nothing to do with turn based combat. When it won GOTY, I laughed, and called it joke. I bought the game on whim, thinking if nothing else, maybe I'll just enjoy the story, and it will kill some time. I now think it's the best game ever made.
DA:O is easily better in every way. I didn't like the fact that pretty much all your companions in BG3 are elves of some kind, extremely horny, and Act 3 felt very rushed. Act 1 was peak (outside of very fast companion relationship), but the fact that racial background barely matters like dwarf, etc, it felt meh to me. Only drow gets loads of racial dialogue/choices. DA:O have less races for sure, but the ones available very explored and felt more fantastical.
The team based combat system makes the game…it’s a bit like chess in that it’s so about planning and strategy. It’s so satisfying when it all comes together especially when you’re outnumbered or weaker than bad guys.
I'd never heard of Larian before in my life. Played this game for a day, and I'm 100% certain that they are they worst dev team that has ever been assembled. Like, do they think k it's fun to be repeatedly stomped over and over again unless you look up the "correct" way to do it on a wiki?

bro i respect your opinion, but i think the whole video can be phrased with 1 sentence:"it isn't your style", it is a good game but the only things it has in common with diablo 3 (which you mentioned a couple of times) are: 1)rpg 2)fantasy, everything else is different from tone to gameplay to atmosphere since one is an action dungeon crawler in a dark fantasy setting where you constantly look for better loot to maximize your character and the other is an adventure in a high fantasy setting trying to approach the tabletop game it's based upon which aims for a good story with deep characters and dialogue and last but not least try to achieve something a lot of old rpg franchises(like fallout) try to do: give the player the ability to do anything and feel like he is a part of the world. If you are looking for a new diablo there are lots of arpg out there old and new to try out(like the ascent or path of exile or the incredible adventures of van helsing)

it shows up you havent seen more than 5 hours of gameplay, its not just that some of your choices may affect the end, its that EVERY single little story can end in a big amount of different ways depending on minucious details all the rpgs we've seen so far cant even dream of, and not to talk about how every single interaction is animated, how impactful your choices are, how you can build your character to be nearly exactly what you want it to be (not just imagination-driven) and the list goes on. BG3 is a big lot of things, but overrated definitely isn't one of them

Ive seen this guy here and there over the last year. He either plays satire so well that he seems oblivious or is so oblivious that it seems like satire. Im thinking its the latter the more i watch him though because he actually mentions games he likes and why he likes them. However then when i think that then, I think he's just a got me with his satire.
For me the game is poorly written and full of gimmicks. Can't play for 10 minutes without some stupid shit happening or a companion saying something like they are an underdeveloped hormone ridden teenager who can't control their mouth.

@@buffboy6197 I wouldn't call Darkest dungeon an RPG. it's more of a Roguelike / strategy game with RPG elements sprinkled on top. it's clear which game in that example has the deeper roleplaying mechanics and which one is closer to the original source material ("D&D"). I'm not saying it's a bad game, on the contrary, but it's a bit the same thing as comparing Minecraft and Terraria, yes, there are the same similarities, but it's clear that the creators of those games have completely different priorities when it comes to game design at a minimum. not to mention the bigger differences like 2D vs 3D etc.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it easily leads to games being called RPGs even though they only have the most minimal features to call them role-playing games.

You are right. Baldurs Gate 3 did not invent a total new mindblowing kind of a game, there are other RPGs out there, be it JRPGs or CRPGs or TRPGs. My opinion is also that 70% of the time you play Baldurs Gate 3 is just playing a Point & Click Adventure game, just like the old Lucasart games like Maniac Mansion, Zack McCracken and so on. You just walk around, observe the environment, like a hobo look in the many containers lying around and more often then not... not even finding trash in them. The combat is, with only four characters, very generic, there are countless games that did that allot better. But that is part of the fact that t he D&D combat and skill-checks is just boring. Also, in Act 3 you get pretty much railroaded into one of two roads, no more choice which is weird, because right at the end is the spot you can add multiple ways easier without having to worry that you later have to make more stuff. You should not attack that Baldurs Gate 3 is Turn Based... but you are right it is not special.

The writing is obnoxious. The combat is significantly worse than DOS2. Bugs everywhere (3 years of early access). Shitty character creation. Levelling sucks and everything is dumbed down. The only thing this has over DOS2 are the many cutscenes. In fact, I doubt this would've gotten the hype that it did if it didn't have all those cutscenes and the degenerate crap. Both DOS2 and Pathfinder WotR are much better games that this.

its got many issues, but this dude is just wrong lol. Its ok to not like the Dnd 5e system, but many people bought the game knowing this and for this reason. You are right that people go out of their way to suck the game off. It annoys me too because the game is so far from perfect, yet gets praised to no end. Its unfiinished is what it is. The game goes from being 8 or 9/10 in act 1-2, then gets to be close to unplayable in act 3. And the rng system is the worst thing ive ever encountered in anything.

I don't really play MMOs because of their grindy nature but I'm glad to see that the game of the year is something a little different instead of full on action like the previous ones. But the show was shit, they rushed speeches for some reason, there were multiple trailers for games like Fortnite which could've been mashed together and they let other people speak longer than the developers which was extremely unfair especially to the Baldur's Gate 3 winner.

All racing games are copies of the last. All action games are copies of the last… Something being “not new” is a vague and dubious argument without any specific examples. “It has a top down view.” Have you considered zooming the camera in? It literally can be played in third person until combat starts where you may want switch to a top down view, but even then… You can zoom in… “It’s not AAA…” Duh. Larian is NOT a AAA studio. They are indie. “I don’t like the romances…” Fully agree. Terrible outside of Lae’Zel’s because it feels more mature in comparison to the teen romance novel feel of Shadowheart and Astarion or Karlach “Getting lost for objectives” I agree it’s not fully clear and Larian is pretty bad with quest objectives, and their last game had a major problem with this. One thing you didn't mention is how the writing is very bad and story/motivations of each character incredibly inconsistent because they did a lot of rewriting and couldn't rework scenes so they were left in. Now they make zero sense.
Yeah, my sessions were never focused on adhering to the game rules so much, it was more about the storytelling and having fun instead of grinding. Mods are a life saver for me.
Most of the gameplay I have seen consists of talking to NPCs and a very very boring turn based combat. It is basically a mobile game. It baffles the senses how it won GOTY.
Completely agree. Friends were begging me to play this game and the RPG mechanics felt shallow tedious, The graphics were janky and felt like it was just a bunch of dropped assets, the combat was long and largely random making any work you put into it completely worthless other than to grind. Best way to define this is it's the worst things about d&d without all the things that make role playing great at the table. It is good to teach people the rules of d&d though, which really highlight how bad DnD mechanics are
To me I genuinly felt a bit offended by Viconia and Sarevoks flat personality like with Viconia she in bg2 was a savvy flirty character which had layers and could even change her alignment. She would also not attack Shadowheart with stopping following Shar as that literally happened with her and Lolths followers and she tolerated Rasaad a Sulune worshipping monk in Baldurs Gate 2 and lost all of her sultry insults. Sarevok was just horrible as in everything he did it was filled with deep raw unedited emotion whether it be for good or bad and he lost all of that and became so dumbed down. And everyone seems to believe that he is still a Bhaalspawn which he is not as when he died in bg1 he lost the essence and powers . Minsc made no sense as how could a human live for 100 years and only age 30 and not die? And even if there is some reason his personality is only the memeable parts not the true deep stuff like his romance with aerie him having a kid etc Just my opinion though I'm sure it took a long time to make create and think of.
I don't disagree. I love D&D and I enjoy video games. But making a turn based video game that tries to replicate a table experience gives you the worst of both worlds. The combat is slow and restrictive. To me, it is boring. The story isn't engaging. The loot is underwhelming. I disliked having to manage and control NPCs. Etc... just not for me. There's no such thing as a correct opinion, this is simply mine: it was disappointing.
So you don't like cRPGs. That's basically all there is to it. This is the best cRPG ever, but if you don't like those, well, even the best won't do. I don't like football/soccer games, no matter how good they might be for fans, well, same thing here.
not liking BG3 is not the same as not liking CRPGs.. I enjoy a lot about BG3, but there's a lot about it I find tedious, one of them is the lack of respect for your time. But that's a different story.. Coming from Tyranny and BG2 and Fallout 2. I can say it's a solid CRPG, but there are some things that it lacks due to it strictly following 5e rules.
I gotta agree with lordblazer on that one. No matter how much I enjoyed bg3, dubbing it "the best CRPG ever" is incredibly reductive to the genre. Without accounting to personal tastes, I would take the risk of saying that bg3 is not better than Pathfinder, dragon age or Disco Elysium. Simply because despite all of them being (arguably) CRPG, their differences in mindset makes any comparition an effort in futility. I would, however, say that bg3 is the best ambassador the genre could have asked for. And that, thanks to it, many players may discover some less...sexy(?) games in the category. In my opinion, anyway.
I bought into the hype of elden ring, I hated it. It made me want to pull my hair out. I didn't know the developer makes games that are super difficult. I love bg3, it's just the amount of depth, options and combat tactics, also I've never seen a game reward you so much for being downright sadistic. I went through a scene where I offered one of my "storied" character to a demi-god for a buff to my party. Laughed my ass off and cringed at the same time. Having never played d&d before, I am a bit lost as to where the story is/should go... but I'm having fun just being evil.

I actually agree with this guy. BG3 had this wink-wink "hipness" to it that completely destroyed immersion. It was a game not made for the BG universe, but for the BG universe PLUS internet dynamics. It is a game for the modern age, for sure. And that is either praise or a criticism, depending how you see it. All I know is that when RPG's were (and still are) written without concern for the anonymous glitchy horde known as "the internet", they were far better.
BG3 does NOT hold your hand. And just like dungeons and dragons: you are only going to enjoy the game if you put your mind and imagination into it. Are you actually reading the dialogue?? Do you even know what all your abilities do?? Are you even talking to the npcs?? Are you ACTUALLY playing or just mindlessly roaming until something “interesting” happens…

This guy is very oblivious. In most games your dialogue choices don't matter much at all. Bg3 is one of the only games where your actions and dialogue choices actually matter, and effects even the smallest parts of the story.
not really. Certain things are set in stone, no matter what you do or say to keep the story moving. Yes killing what's her face with the spear in Shadowheart's personal quest will cause Thorm's daughter to join him in the battle, because you killed her lover, but other than that, it changes very little.

Exactly. This is what's called "not engaging with the game." I honestly don't think this guy would've even liked the original BG1 and BG2 because they're all about the story elements more than the gameplay (although the gameplay is pretty spot-on as well).

Or maybe people don't like missing 30 attacks in a row and absolutely everything costing an action point when you get 2 per turn in a fight against 50 enemies. The game fails as an RPG and Fails as a DnD game its a save scumming mess simply cause larian likes the xcom formula of missing at a 100% hit rate.

@@lorexmusic1067 your not a good DND player then if you can't see the inherent issue with probability strictly based off data, DND works because dice have weight there's no way for them to program this to virtual dice not in the way real ones work.
Do not listen to this dude this game is fuckin amazing it was the first game I've been hyped for since Black Ops 3 and that was nearly 2/3rds of my life ago, the only people that don't like this game I am convinced are the guys that love lootboxes and flashy colors in their games or are only entertained by games that need tons of cinematic moments every two seconds to keep their attention
As I type this right now I'm trying to control 4 characters in BG3 to get them to jump around traps and AOE effects in an out-of-combat situation. Manually controlling the camera so it doesn't wig out and zoom in onto my character's ass, re-loading the same save 10 times when I mess it up, trying to click on the exact pixel where a character will jump around the danger instead of pathing directing into it. I grew up playing Fallout, BG and BG2, Neverwinter Nights 2002, none of them felt this shitty to play. It feels like they put in tons of development and no playtesting, which makes sense given the early access approach
to be fair none of those games had a system similar to the so bg3 is operating with entire extra dimension of movement that none of the other games had to contend with (for better or worse).
I just started playing this the last few days after debating if I should get it - very disappointed in the character creation right away (very limited options and premade faces). I feel like I'm going crazy because I have NOT been enjoying the game so far in any way, and I usually love turn based/strategy games as well as RPGS. I don't understand the hype around this game and at the moment am sad I have spent $100 CAD on this. I usually spend hours and hours in new RPGS but with this I'm just very bored.
fair, i would have been disappointed in the creation as well. I recommend you to get into modding. Was my first time as well and there are very good and easy enough to follow instructions on how to get mods. Its a game changer i am telling you
The game has been overhyped, basically for guys/gals like us we aren't the target market and it's a very diluted RPG with a lot of horny to make up for plodding/lack of plot. The combat is arguably the worst aspect of it given the AI doesn't really know what to do in a lot of situations and any arbitrary difficulty is when it introduces some sort of "BS" mechanic to try and cause a total party kill. I.e. pushing you off a cliff, or spamming Hold etc. Once you get that one spell Globe of Invulnerability the AI just honestly doesn't know what to do, so you can tear it apart piecemeal. Any challenge that's too hard early can be overcome by spamming barrels. One person told me "you aren't the target for this game, this is supposed to be for those that want a pen and paper D&D experience but have no outlet for it IRL". I suppose that's true to an extent with all of the wackiness it throws at times, but it makes for a poor RPG that is carried by essentially bells, whistles and mocap.
I was disappointed in the overhyped character creation as well. Everyone kept raving about how they took hours to make their character, but it’s very cookie cutter and limited in facial/body options. Hell, The Sims 4 has better facial customization.

As someone who had bought the game when it was first launched, just like you, i had the same kind of thought process at first. I just let the game sit in my steam library till the official launch. For me, personally, it made all the difference. i don t know if you are a fan of dnd or not but at first, i was annoyed with the dice system but it actually opens a lot of different outcomes if you don t save scum. To compare this game now to an indie game is laughable at best, most of the games today don t even comes out as complete and polish as this one. For the romance aspect of the thing you don t have to get involve at all if that s not your thing and i was not arouse by it lol. For your claim that nothing s new about it, well, the games you mentioned either lol. Most of the games that pretends to have different outcomes does not most of the time, in this one it actually matters which adds a lot of replay ability, the fact that you can add sub classes also. it looks beautiful and different acts plays out in different settings which prevents you from getting bored of it. i don t know the settings you were playing with to say that it is not but my guy, come on... for the jankiness, you played early access only sooo.... i don't know if you took the time to invest yourself in the story but when i did i was pretty much a zombie for not taking the time to sleep. it s like a very good movie you don t want to stop watching before seeing the plot unfold. the map, there is a full on page menu where you can tic your quests and track them, sorry if you missed that... to finalize this comment: good story, different beautiful environments, compelling fleshed out characters, good sense of progression, a lot of replay ability, A LOT of hours for your money, no micro transactions, cut scenes in which you can see your character in (you know the one you said you can t ever see) i personally appreciate that a lot, tones of possibilities to interact with your environment in and out of combat, the tactician difficulty is easy for some but i appreciate that it forced me to really planned out my actions in order to win. the only type of person who i can understand would not like this game is the type who does not give a crap about the stories of the games they play and prefers none stop action which i can understand.
THIS is exactly what I dislike about the BG3 fanbase: the fact that they cannot grasp the concept of someone who likes games with good stories or likes RPGs disliking BG3. Because, I hate to break it to you, but the quality of the writing and the story is subjective. And IMO, the writing in this game is a notable downgrade from BG1+2, even DOS2. It almost feels like a Marvel-ized version of Baldur's Gate, with how tongue in cheek it tries to be.
this game brags so much about its options, but there's really like 5 endings. No matter how you resolve your companions quests, you still end at the same place in the end. unless you end the game in act 2 with gale, but then you miss half the game.
5 endings?! You do realise that there are so many variations within those "main endings", right? And you also realise that pretty much every other game does not offer such a huge variety in terms of where the story can lead to.

Yes I know how every characters story can go, and its basically just 5 endings rn. little details dont really change anything. aside from gale you can achieve any character story ending, with any real game ending, they are inconsequential. I also made thjis comment 8 months ago, when it was more true. The games variety still has you doing slow turn based combat and sitting through the slow ass enemy ai. no matter what build you choose, the gameplay feels the same. Theres not much difference in feeling between stealth archer and melee tank, its still do main attack, do bonus action, go next, sit for 30 seconds. Then several times youd think magic can make it unique, but it really feels the same.

Yes, but... the only criticism he was at all specific about was that he doesn't like romance in games because he doesn't like getting aroused when playing games. Didn't feel polished like a AAA game? Not very innovative? A lot of his points are just bizzarro-world inverse of the things the game is now famous for.
No, but his criticism may speak to an issue with him more then the game. “Hey I’m way to ADD to enjoy the pacing of this game” is not really a criticism of the game. And between us (PS5 player) I’m very much wondering if I may feel the same way. But that’s on me.
I think it is pretty clearly explained by multiple sources by now why the game is a milestone and what is objectively great about it (if you can't figure it out yourself). That being said it is perfectly normal to not enjoy it. Based on what you said in this video I don't think you are into role playing.

I've played this game for more than 100 hours, the history, the characters, the voice actings, that's amazing. But it's not anything new, I totally agree. The combat is the most tedious thing I had to endure after playing so many awesome games this year... Besides, this game has been on early access for more than a year and I experienced on PS5 many bugs that ruin the gameplay, key items or buttons that disappear suddenly.
@@lorexmusic1067 And yet, the original Baldur's Gate games were able to streamline their digital adaptation of 2e combat. Larian, on the other hand, added MORE rules and things to combat, further slogging everything down.
@@Lowraith Yeah because the player simply had to tell the characters the target and what to do to them, the rest was all auto. Lots of combat in bg1 and bg2 are simply staring at the screen waiting for either you or your enemy to die.
@@lorexmusic1067 Many of us preferred this for combat encounters that didn't require burning resources. 5e combat is very tedious when you're not facing a worthy challenge.
I've been asking myself why BG3 feels a lot like DOS2. So having played both and comparing its combat mechanics amongst other nuances, it's not a reskin as it is a hybrid between dnde and larian's dos series. Too many differences that also adds into it.

It's like Larian broke into a royal tomb where a legend rests, stole the remains and grafted it into a new body. The result is awkward Frankenstein's monster pretending to be the discovery of the decade. Every time Larian toxic fanboys talk about BG3 they mention DOS2. By that they're indirectly confess it's basically the same game.
