I think one's taste is a personal thing..as we mature musically we leave others behind as we move outwards. In the end, we are often so far out that no one is where we are..perhaps a few like Rick rocking along in ecstasy, on the hill in the far distance.

I can feel Rick's enthusiasm but not for this type of tune. I admit that the melody is interesting but for me there are too many notes here, I don't have a specific feeling rather just something like "this is crowded". Obviously it's a matter of taste.

The Köln Concerto and Belonging were my introductions to KJ as a teenager back in the 90's. As a Norwegian, the fact that the rest of the quartet is Scandinavian and that Belonging was recorded in my hometown of Oslo was kinda cool, too.

Ok Beato, I'm a 69 year old bassist, prog rock, blues rock ect but I was also Stevie Ray Vaughan's close friend. A few months before his death Stevie put me in charge of finding him a jazz teacher. I had checked out North Texas State University, known for their Stan Kenton library and Lab Bands but before I could solidify anyone, he passed away. I see now how much info is available now. I will end this by saying, I purchased your Beato book and The Tim Pierce Masterclass. I'm really happy this information is now available at our fingertips. Youngsters have no idea how much easier it is to learn now I notice a decline in feel that I attribute to step by step instructions. Anyway, I am now crossing the bridge from blues to jazz because quite frankly it's the last bastion of art in most music nowadays. BTW, I had this conversation on feel in current music with Doyle Bramhall Sr shortly before his demise. Keep up the good work Professor!

This takes me back-I recall singing along to this as well! There’s something about this insane melody that makes you want to sing along with it. Btw I pretty much nailed it now it though I had trouble with the range :) One melody I’ve always had trouble nailing is the synth outro to Steely Dan’s “King of the World.” Rick will appreciate that one.

What you’re doing is exactly what I did to practice my falsetto. I am a huge Earth, Wind and Fire fan and one of the best ways for me to work on my falsetto and tighten up the notes, was to actually sing along to solos. Guitar solos, sax solos… If you can learn a solo and sing along in your falsetto, it truly helps with control and breathing

Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar riffs on David Bowie's Modern Love has had me in a bind for a few days now. And also because Kenny Loggins allegedly took the drum apart, slightly modified it; and turned it into Footloose. Help me!!😭

YES! I get this with most songs from 2000/2001, lots of hiphop songs from those years also have incredibly well produced tunes, think about the intro of “Ja Rule - Put It On Me”, just viibe that intro, ja rule just starts rapping too darn early! 😂 but also the refrain with backup vocals of “where my girls at” by 702. I guess I also like songs that have some mantric element to them, that’s why in my opinion the best Beatles’ song is ‘Words of Love’. However the songs that really stick with me because they reach the depth of my feelings are melancholic songs like “All Good Things Come to an End” by Nelly Furtado, especially those what I call ‘blowing sand sounds’.

Layla's contributions to this video are priceless. Rick Beato: "I'm not obsessive about music, I just like to listen to the same thing thousands of times until my family sedates me and turns off the music." (Note: not actual Rick Beato quote). I guess I'm in good company having the same propensity.

Bravo Rick! I did sound for a clinic for students hosted by a Jazz trumpet player Bobby Shew. As an private teacher he talked about his criteria for bringing on new students. The first test was This. he would play a piano chord and ask the new applicant to sing something. Anything. One note in the chord or a complete melody would do. This was regardless of voice quality but in regards to ear quality. I believe most every musician sings parts to themselves often (at home alone - I can't shut up :)). It's kind of a natural, easy connection with music. Love what you do. Keep it up :). Thanks for inspiration. Cheers
