My wife and I got married at 18. I joined the military just to have a paycheck and then I discovered my wife was bipolar and suicidal. In and out of the mental hospital and counseling. This was before they gave her medications. Bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain much like being a diabetic is a chemical imbalance. Seasonal changes affected her as well. She would leave the babies in their room all day until just before I came home from work because she was afraid she would hurt them. After a lot of scary years we got the right combination of medications and got better and even held down a job and retired. We've been married 51 years now and she is still doing great.

hey, I'm 18 and completely understand you. I moved out 4 weeks ago but my parents made me move back in a week later. They said I did it out of tantrum and wanting to be of the party life. Before I moved out my mom even said "I don't care if you leave" and so I did, and once they realized I was capable of leaving they got mad. They wouldn't let me sleep in the same room as my sisters like before, so now I am sleeping in a "big" closet. I am hoping to move out once I turn 19 (end of May). Sometimes home life doesn't have to be physically abusive to be bad, mentally and emotionally a household can damage someone.

You're 18. If you're financially independent they can't make you do anything. My parents are mentally abusive to the point where I was practicing sticking my head in nooses at 11. I tried to kill myself 8 times while living with my toxic, abusive mother and my father who had clearly chosen my mother over my mental health. I moved out 2 weeks after I turned 18. Stay strong and keep your head up. If you make smart financial decisions you can make it out. I wish you the best.

My mom was almost a psychotic level of overprotective even though I'm a guy, I had friends always but my mom would do crazy shit like call my friends parents to make sure I'm okay when I was just there to play video games, its not like i was going to choke on the controller....., I couldn't do things like go camping with my friends or even learn how to drive until I was 18, she tried to keep me bubble wrapped and that backfired greatly because I had many issues growing up myself, I lacked social skills, had depression, adhd and other issues, my mom wanted to meet and know every friend I hung out with even into my 20s, the problem was with her, but i know that she is still a good parent and person overall except for a few qualities like being way too much at all times, too controlling and dominant, even my dad does not like being around her all the time etc. but otherwise she is a good woman and very loyal and hardworking and just has a hard time loosing control or letting go.....the bottom line is it's a tough thing to deal with when you are 17, but you have little choice right now, get a job, act with maturity around your parents and slowly take your freedom because a controlling parent won't give it to you, you have to take it yourself, it might result in fights and problems but it is what it is, you also should just be patient because it could take years for them to even change a little and also talk to your parents in a manner where you don't loose your cool, if they still don't change in a few years time then you should just do as you please and let them do as they please, trust me they won't call the cops on you over and over again, eventually they will give up and get used to the fact that you are just going to do what you want and they can't do anything about it besides kick you out.....which they probably wont but just in case save your money....hopefully they will slowly learn to let go

They just kept demanding that the police handcuff me and send me to the mental health hospital and the police had no idea what to do. They just stared at me. I suggest you first do some research before diving in, and though it's stressful when working I think it's best because that's the only way you'll get the money done. Ugh... I'm 16 and I'm jealous that you even had the ability to do that so young. Most parents are not going to let their kids leave even if it's for their mental health. I live with my parents and sister in a tiny town that travelers use as a freaking truck stop. The closest city is an hour away. This life has been slowly KILLING me. My family can be so toxic and obnoxious. They are holding me back with all of their strength. I really hope that I can get a job soon and become financially stable before I am 18 so I can move out as soon as my 18th birthday comes. Some of the adults reading this might be laughing but I honestly don't care. At this point, I just KNOW that I will feel so relieved when I get to wake up in a home of my own with nobody else to bother me or get in my way. Just tons of cats. My own cats AND foster cats. That is all I want for the rest of my life.

Even though it really sucks that you had to grow up so fast, it's so admirable how you handled it. I'm only like a year younger than you but damn I don't think I could do this

I remember when I had depression. It was in the summer when I had nothing really going on and I kept turning people away. I literally relate to the room thing too much, and I even had trouble gaining the energy to even change my clothes. I also slept for many many hours of the day. It’s only because of my stubborn friends, who I turned away constantly, that I was able to return to normal, thankfully.

That's not having depression if you had it once. You went through a phase of depression. Depression never goes away. You can treat it, and tone it down a little, but up into you die, clinical depression DOES NOT GO AWAY. you were depressed, you did not HAVE depression unless you still feel depressed, then of course, you might.
@BellaRose02

Kaylin VB there are different types of depression mine, at the time, was clinical. But recently with lots of therapy I am now medicated. But thanks for doubting me.
@kaylinvb6423
@kaylinvb6423 4 года назад
@@BellaRose02 not doubting you. You're very uneducated about the topic then if you think you no longer have it while still taking medication. There's a large population in this worldwho go around saying they have depression and anxiety when they just went through a bad phase of their life. Saying you USED to have depression is a huge red flag. You don't just wake up one day and not have it.
@kaylinvb6423
@kaylinvb6423 4 года назад
@@BellaRose02 I'm honestly just trying to educate people on the topic, because there's a lot of people who just try to make it a trend, saying they deal with depression and anxiety when in reality they have no clue what it feels like. I'm sorry though, i didn't mean to invalidate you. It was just that you saying you used to have it bothered me.
@victoriafairley4552
@victoriafairley4552 3 года назад
@@kaylinvb6423 telling people that they can never get rid of depression does not help either. Because that is taking the hope of everyone who is suffering from clinical depression away. And for many pwople the hope to recover is the only thing that is keeping them alive. And as far as i was told (by doctors) you can get rid of depression, just not from a personality disorder. But i do totally agree with you that people speak about having depression was to easily, when they are just havibg a bad phase.

Ahhhh Chica….I moved out at 17, tried to move out earlier. Severe depression when living at home. (Also under-diagnosed mental health issues as teen). Still loved my fam, but I couldn’t live there anymore. If I had stayed, I too might not be here today. It was the best decision I ever made. Paid all my own bills from 18 forward. I am 49 now, live in Brooklyn with my amazing husband of six years. Got married late because I was having too much fun living NYC life! You’ve got the right plan, kick ass with yo bad self. ❤️

now I feel so bad because I was literally in the same place mentally and I did absolutely NOTHING about it. I thought people would change, things would get different and life would move on, and I guess it did. but now I feel like life has left me behind, I don't know where my teen years went. I kept waiting for 'better time' to come and it just never did. now I am about to hit 18. eventually , I unconsciously kept relying on the internet for comfort and created this fake identity around it. I don't know where I am at in life, I have no aim, no plans for my future and because I never experienced most 'teen experiences' Ig I constantly have this imposter syndrome. I watched one of mai's vlogs recently and she kept referencing to this video so I knew I had to watch it and boy am I shook. I am leaving this comment here hoping that when I find this again someday, I am a different, happier, better person.
