This is very interesting to me because I’m an INFP who hates school but I’ve always been a straight A student. As a child I never really had a problem with school cause it was easy enough and I had fun, I started having problems in middle school when I started questioning myself and what I wanted for my future. So far in my life my identity had always been “the smart girl”, cause that’s what I always heard from everybody, and I felt pressured to become a really successful professionist. Since then I became a bit depressed. I wanted to explore many possibilities, never wanted to settle for one option. School started feeling like it smothered me, drowning us in pointless homework that does nothing but stress us out. However, as much as I started hating school, I so desperately held on to my “smart” identity that I did all necessary to keep my good grades. I recently graduated high school and I still had no idea what to do with my life, however I enrolled in college, started studying design and animation. I like the art part but my hate for homework and the rigid structure of school was too much for me that I dropped out after just two months. I dropped out a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been pretty much wasting all of my free time. I don’t really know how to cope with the drastic change from being a “perfect student” to being a drop-out and not knowing where my life is going cause I still don’t want to choose any particular path for my life I’m just curious on how you managed to get by and make money without studies or any particular interest in a job, cause it seems like I’ll need to do the same Sorry for the oversharing

The wisest, most emotionally aware person I know doesn't have a bachelor's degree. I think when people equals education to wisdom, it can get really convoluted and unhelpful. We're all deeply unique individual and what works for us will vary.

Couldn’t agree more. There’s so much wisdom to actually walking the path of life with an open heart and an open mind, listening to ourselves every step of the way.

@@Nathanelder.expressthis At the same breath, I know some literal professors who are emotionally petulant and immature. I certainly don't envy them!

Your video happened to pop up, and find it very similar to my own situation as a teenager. I was never into school and people and I was facing a lot of emotional trauma that affects my day-to-day life. I was forced to go back to school, even literally "forced" with violence, yet one ever asked "why" I don't want to, thankfully I never had any addictions whatsoever. I was just completely out of the traditional ways and I've always been fond of learning. Eventually, I still finished high school but I mostly learned the majority of what I know by myself. Though I wouldn’t say "I had it worse" because I am a female where there's a, "you are a girl, aren't you ashamed of yourself for not going to school.". I am glad you found yourself now and made your own path without the "traditional" way. I am in 22 and as well making my own path and success in my own way. I am proud of you and thank you for sharing your story.

This is eerily similar to my experience. Almost note for note. Your frustration at the seemingly banal reasoning for school/work resonates with me deeply. I never enjoyed school, I enjoyed the people in school and learning things on my own.

Its amazing that there’s other people who just couldn’t do it. Yes! It’s so funny, I was just talking to my friend before about how my love for knowledge is, and always was huge! I suppose it highlights that there’s more than one way to skin a cat!

I love people who can reject the conventional. I was raised very conventional but as soon as I was able to think for myself around 15 I’ve questioned everything. I would cry everyday while walking to high school because it just didn’t make sense to me. It’s all just bureaucratic hoops to jump through and I don’t think I remember very much of what I learned. I somehow still got my diploma even though I was barely present for my last year. I’m glad I did it though because it allowed me to pursue my passion in environmental studies, but I wish it was different.

hi, i happened to find this vid today and have gone through almost the exact same things... i turned 17 not too long ago. i've struggled with depression and anxiety since i was 12/10ish, i stopped going to school regularly in 7th grade, inconsistently went in 8th grade for 3 months or less, had online school by 9th grade and only joined on zoom for a few days - then pretty much completely stopped attending school after that. all i did was sleep around, play roblox, overeat or undereat and i didn't get out of my house much. idk what to do since i'm nearly 18 and i can't even function properly. this whole story sounds like a joke but i'm serious. btw sorry for just going on a detailed rant about my life. ~some stranger

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s really interesting to me that there are other people who have slipped through the cracks like I have. When you say you can’t function properly, what do you mean? Socially, or? And none of this sounds like a joke. I’ve been here almost exactly by the sounds of it

@@Nathanelder.expressthis yeah i have pretty bad social anxiety and just general anxiety but i also feel strange sometimes like i just zone out, my mind often feels blank or i tend to lose my train of thought, i can't seem to concentrate and it's embarrassing but idk basic math, things i should've learned by now.

@@mylastbraincellfr I know what you mean with social anxiety. I barely wanted to speak to a cashier a few years ago. I’ve had to develop social skills to survive by myself over the last few years, and it’s become enjoyable now for the most part. Is the social anxiety due to not feeling like you can relate to most people’s experience? Or is there something specific that you can’t seem to click into about it? For me, I’ve had trouble understanding peoples motivations most of my life? It’s like, I don’t get why people do what they do a lot of the time. Delving into psychology and meeting and connecting with people has helped me here. Do you feel like there’s a reason for the ‘brain fog’ (for lack of a better term)?

What was/is your method for making friends when you never went to high school/uni?
@Nathanelder.expressthis

Honestly, I think it’s because I had a friend from earlier on who had a few friends and then those guys had friends, etc. but, I’ve always been that kind of person to just have a close couple of mates, know?
