I'm not a religious person, but you're filled with so much lightness and laughter - especially these days - it's refreshing. I'm very much an agnostic atheist, but you've hit on a very important part of the human experience that I think people struggle with which is letting others live their life the way it suits them best. My gaze on others and how they live is usually fleeting, unless I'm deeply captivated by how interesting it is which happens rarely. I think it's human nature to acknowledge that certain lifestyles and belief systems don't suit me, but I shouldn't be a beacon of negativity and judgement to those who differ from me, especially if I am not interacting directly with those people. I will admit that I can do a better job of processing the feelings in a healthier way, no matter how short-lived, but quickly moving past those instances seems to work best for me for now. I also think that your perspective is something that aligns with feminism which is that women have the freedom to choose to be traditional or not, and it's okay. If it's okay for them, then it should not be my problem at all.

Ahh, I appreciate the comment about my lightness and laughter!! And yeah, I moved away from institutional religion and I'm much more focused on my personal relationship with God, Jesus and the whole spiritual realm. Your method of just moving your attention away from lifestyles and beliefs systems sounds perfect to me, there's that saying "where attention goes, energy flows" and you're being intentional about your energy! And I definitely would call myself a feminist, freedom is definitely a human right and I'm excited to see the culture having these hard but necessary conversations about where we've devalued human life. Thank you for taking the time to write such a beautifully nuanced comment!

I’ll never understand judging anyone who isn’t causing harm to others and is choosing a life. It would be one thing if the lifestyle was being forced, but it’s not. why are we assuming that the majority of people get the most fulfillment from working outside the home..? I love domesticity. I had a corporate job for over a decade and I was nearing a mental breakdown. I don’t understand why we pretend capitalism and the endless rat race is so fulfilling when we are talking about housewives but any other time we are sharing 100 memes a day about how much we hate out jobs. Then when we talk about tradwives we get amnesia and act like work is the best thing thats ever happened to us

Yeah for me, judgement has always been rooted in fear that other people's decisions would ultimately harm me. I'm really glad I've been able to move that fear and judgement, it's a lot more peaceful!

@@chimdithis! I think if people could just remember that other people’s choices do not have to affect your choices, everyone would calm down.

When I was a kid, I remember coming home after school and my mother would be standing in front of the TV ironing my dad's dress shirts and hankies while watching daytime talk shows. She would tell me how I needed to learn how to iron dress shirts and me thinking "oh hell no, I will be the one wearing the dress shirts to work everyday!". I don't think she was unhappy, but I also know that she did not feel fulfilled. It looked like my worst nightmare, honestly. I don't even own an iron.

hahaha LOVE that you said, I'M NOT EVEN LETTING AN IRON INTO THIS HOUSE!!!! I definitely had to process so much fear and anger about the parental dynamics I saw growing up and I know that's part of why I'm taking my sweet time getting into a serious relationship. I feel like the worst case scenario is repeating those dynamics and I would literally rather pass away single and free 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@chimdi Single and free is a great alternative! My mom used to try endless hobbies and volunteer opportunities, but none of them were ever long term; she just seemed so lost and like she didn't know herself or what her purpose was, always searching for something more.

Forgive me if I’m projecting but your mom sounds so relatable. Trying to figure it out and find herself and to even make that effort it so admirable but I’m not at all trying to speak on or diminish your experience. Just a different pov if you will.

@@justms.jacksontv I totally agree, she was right to keep trying on new hats! In part it showed me how easy and rewarding it can be to find various volunteer opportunities; both of my parents have always prioritized being of service and that's admirable.

I love the perspective you took on this tradwife trend. As a clinician I think it's important to reframe our judgements as our own personal fears that we need to address instead of a societal issue that needs to be publicly criticize and condemn.
@chimdi
@chimdi 4 месяца назад
That reframe is SO powerful!! Because of trying to solve huge collective issues and feeling powerless as a result, we get to focus on what we actually can control -- releasing the fears that live in our body. The medical field is lucky to have you!!
