This is a very good choice. The fact that I'm watching this video is that I must admit, I've become addicted to Whatsapp and RU-vid on my smartphone. So, I join you in this journey. I'm switching to my Blackberry Bold 9700, can't use Whatsapp on this phone. RU-vid also will not be great on this small screen.

Watched your video. Went to best buy and got me a 3310. My smart phone was chucked into a dumpster on the way out the door. I love this phone. Because that what it is a damn phone made for communication not shopping for useless crap or looking at the latest picture your friend posted of their lunch. I am glad you woke up, Astrid and I hope more will follow your example, since I got my first smart phone about 10 years ago I refuse to have internet in it and also disable my data, when I tell that to people they are looking at me as I am coming from a different planet, I am living a "boring" and peaceful life, use the phone for calls, texts and sometimes pictures.

You are absolutely right. I think the last time I was fulfilled and happy was 2016 when I wasn’t on my smart phone for hours every day. I was working out, creating art, and keeping my home clean daily. Now everyday I feel depressed with so much time wasted. I don’t do anything for me anymore. Time to get back to LIFE! Thank you!

Omg I've been thinking about getting this phone! I usually have my phone on airplane mode though (cuz these new batteries aren't sh!t lol) so it's basically a dumbphone.

Holy shit I feel this to my core. Just recently noticed I’ve been on Fb 11 years. And although I’ve made some genuine connections with people all over the world. I look around and wonder what I’ve done. Sure I’ve done things. But I also look back and remember what I did before Fb was a thing and wonder what life would be like if I never joined up. I sit in my room some days and realize I can spend days on the internet doing nothing. Other times I leave my phone inside and do things in the garden/yard. My attention span. Like you mentioned, is lacking. I can’t hold focus and either go back to the internet or daydream. I’ve tried to teach myself various things. Photography. Pole dancing. Etc I can’t focus enough to learn beyond the basics. My mental health also relies on tech and the internet. Pc and phones. To distract from it. To get myself out of my head. Distract from the problem till the problem calms and goes away. Problems I will oneday hopefully overcome. Anyways. Thanks for the video. It’s inspiring. Maybe I can start with a day with no tech and see how I progress. (Been following you since your dreadlocks/tumblr days. You made a video on how to dread loose hair after I asked. ✌🏼)

how can you activate a Nokia 3310 when its only 3G? I read no place will activate them even last year in 2019. Was a 4G version released? Im confused

You’re are right. People’s minds have been overloaded with more than they can handle. It already started before phones, when we started having 100 channels on cable. But at least you were free from it when leaving the house. But reality now and the constant bombardment of inputs 24/7 is worse. I'm so much hoping to see a dumb phone with a music streaming service.. like Spotify or whatever. One of those services where I can store a couple of albums in it’s memory, so I don’t necessarily have to stream and have it online all the time. It’s all I need. I listen to less and less music now because of the constant distraction from all the other stuff. And I regret it every day.

I switch to a dumb phone because my anxiety with having a smart phone was too much for me to handle and since having the dumb phone, my life has changed for the better I’m less anxious. I very rarely check my phone because it’s just for emergencies and basics.

got a Nokiia flip phone. T-Mobile twenty bucks a month unlimited calls and text. No need for data. Reddit is a shit-hole. If communities were fine-dining, Reddit would be fast-food. You MIGHT have a decent question on Askreddit. You leave a response. If you're lucky, someone may reply to your comment with something useless in the timeframe of 8 to 12 hours. Then the thread dies forever. My New Years Resolution is to never return to that bullshit. Already deleted my account.

I do find that when I started easing off social media I see way less random stuff that I want, simply because I don’t see that it exist! I never realized how much desire was being generated from seeing products others posted until I stopped seeing it.

my smartphone broke last week, and i got a flip phone. i feel like a wall has been lifted. i have no anxiety from my cell phone anymore, even though it wasn't obvious before, i can feel how light i am now.

I started today and I'm so excited ! The smartphone literally wasted 10 years of my life.

Yes, I totally get the liberation thing, and more than that it’s the ‘If you want to contact me, you’re gonna have to actually talk to me’ thing. Thanks for saying all that out loud, on a public forum, just a voice putting that out there into the ethos. I hear you. It's so weird though, I was JUST cleaning out an old cabinet yesterday, getting rid of stuff and came across my two favorite phones ever! My two original Nokias and thinking, "These were the BEST phones, so simple, and all I needed." The first one was earlier than the one you have there, the silver chunky small one that fit perfectly in my hand with the tactile buttons, and then a Nokia flip phone that was even smaller than the first one when closed., my second favorite phone. The only reason I changed was they broke and they stopped making these type. Man, I didn't know you could still get this type. Food for thought.

Congratulations!! I totally understand what you mean. I started weaning myself off the largest time sucks one at a time. I even have deleted all but one game. Now the only form of social media I have is Facebook mostly for orchid and plant groups and local events. I read a lot more (which I enjoy) and keep my garden and house up so much more and just do more things. I still have my smart phone but it consumes much less of my time. Smartphones are great tools, but like you pointed out, a lot of apps and web pages are designed to pull us in and keep us (and our money) in.

I am on day 3 of my Nokia 8110 4G.... Smart phone has stayed in a drawer and only come out to transfer money between bank accounts then swiftly put away!

I have a dumb phone and I use it for security for my on line accounts like FB and Amazon for 2nd Verification. Because it can't access the internet its safer.

Been there and done that for 4 years. It was originally a way to focus on getting into med school but it carried over for much longer than I expected. It was so much less stressful and liberating. At the same time keeping in contact with new friends who only use WhatsApp was a pain and I fell behind with my friends' humor. Double edged sword no doubt. Congratulations on your soon to be marriage!

You should be compulsory listening for 14 to 20 year olds. I have grandchildren ages 19, 19, and 16 who do not know how to talk to me; they are always glued and tapping away on their iPhone or smartphones (are they the same). They don't know how to say please and thank you! Keith and I used to despair, but then we realised it's not our generation that causing (late sixties/seventies global warming) it's our grandchildren, two of whom have had cars bought them at the age of 17. You are right Astrid, a woman who has decided to see what others fail to. Thank you, where are your canaries, can't hear them in the background.
