Why I Switched From Canon To Fujifilm And Why You Should Too. 

Fuji doesn't design their cameras and lenses to test well on charts, it's purely for image quality and the creative process. I love it!

As someone who has shot Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Leica… my experience is that you can enjoy any camera system… you just need to spend the time to learn the camera to the point where the camera is an extension of you.

I been shooting with Canon for 12 years, then switching to mirrorless cameras for work I chose Sony ( which I onestly love so much). Last spring I tried for fun my first Fujifilm ever and I fell in love straight away.. now I own two and looking to buy some more in the future. I agree about the Fuji look, the design and the color that the camera produce it's what made me in love with these cameras.

I got a Fuji cuz no matter what it was my Sony always made shooting feel like work instead of “fun”

I went the opposite route, from Fuji to Canon R mount and couldn’t be happier. Most fun camera/lens combo what I’ve used? R6mkii with tiny 28mm pancake. The combo is basically a body with the best ergonomics and usability ever, but it feels almost like there’s no lens at all. And the results - oh boy the results! For me, it eats my former X100V and XT4 for breakfast. So, people have different preferences and that is good :D And for my professional use, RF L- lenses all the way.

After 20 years of shooting with Canon 5D and 7D I'm waiting for my brand new Fujifilm X-T5. I agree with the feeling, photos with soul, film imitation and yes, lens prices. I can't wait to shoot with Fuji and share my first opinions. I'm so excited.

Yes; I made the switch in 2018 and have definitely not regretted it. I spent 50 years (yes, 50) with Pentax film and digital cameras and they had great sentimental value to me. The frequent repairs needed drove me eventually to Fuji. I bought an X100F and then an X-E3 with multiple lenses. I cannot imagine being more pleased with a system, not just because of the technical quality but because of the sheer joy of using them.

In my work as a photojournalist, I went from an Olympus OM1 film camera (yes, I'm old) to Nikon DSLR's, then Fujifilm launched their Mirrorless bodies, and I jumped ship with an X-T2 and X-H1. I retired just before the X-H2's came out, as well as the X-T5. I now use a variety of Fujifilms for my own enjoyment, often coupled with vintage lenses. I found an instant improvement with a lot less noise in the Fujis compared to my Nikons. And like you, I enjoyed taking photos again.

I have been a Fuji shooter for many years. Just had to get a full frame Sony. When I first started shooting with the Sony I liked it a lot. But when the T-5 came out I bought one and that was it for me. I sold my Sony and the lens. For me the Fuji X-T5 was perfect for me for street (light, dials, small lenses), landscape, (light carrying several lens and the body), general shooting (the dials, the feel in my hands and the price of lens.) Post processing these days allows me to make final prints that make it impossible to tell the difference between full frame and crop

I've been using XH2 and XT5 for event work. I know that it gives up a little in low light vs full frame, but there isn't anything that I haven't been able to do with them. I've got 3 sharp and fast 3rd party f1.2 (viltrox 75mm) and f1.4 (sigma 16mm and 56mm) primes and the little sigma 18-50 f2.8 zoom. I'd probably add the Fuji 50-140 to the kit. Clients are very happy, and they've got zero idea full frame vs crop. They don't know or care. Which ever system, I'd want 2 bodies for events (redundancy and I usually have 2 bodies on a harness with different lenses and like working that way). The cost of 2x full frame Canon, Sony or Nikon and good glass would just cost a lot more. I'm enjoying the Fuji cameras, clients are happy and my wallet is happy.

I just sold all my Fuji gear (X-H2S and lenses) for an R6MII. I really like Fuji but I got tired of waiting for the promised AF improvement. I'm a hobbyist who wants to capture fast action easily, and full frame wasn't the draw. FUJI isn't it for anything but static shots in my opinion. Every camera system offers great things in 2024.

I agree with everything you said. I’ve had the Sony A7iv, R6 i&ii and now have the X T5 and X H2s. I enjoy and love shooting with Fuji. As you said the only slight disadvantage is low light. Other than that Fujifilm 100%

100% the only reason I won't switch from full frame (tried Fuji for one year last year) is adapting vintage lenses. It's one of my favorite things and it just isn't as fun with a crop factor for me

I grew up shooting canon, but I can’t get over the massive expensive of RF lenses. I’m also considering jumping ship to Fujifilm.

I switched to Fujifilm after 25 years of film and then full-frame Nikon digital. I loved my Nikons, not a bad word to say about the brand. My commercial work was very technical, I needed high resolution, perfect sharpness and colours, so the gear I had was worth every penny and I was earning enough to support it. But, the pandemic killed that business, and I was ready for a change anyway. I decided no more commercial work, I was going to focus on creativity and fine art photography. I had been using an X-E2 and later X-E3 for travel, and I just decided to go full Fuji. I kept the X-E3 and also got an X-T3 as a main camera. I still use both of them and have never looked back. I say this on a lot of threads - people obsess over pixels, vignetting, perfect colour rendition, light gathering, lens speed, all that. And they compare camera after camera, lens after lens on paper and with test charts. I was that guy. But life isn't about test charts. In the end, people will judge the photos you take, not the ones you don't. If you create a beautiful image, no one is going to care about the gear you didn't use to make it. Some people are concerned with technical perfection, and that is relevant in some circles, I get it. But for me, for being creative and exploring my world, I just need something fun and accessible. In the end, it's about using the gear that helps you get out there and shooting.

I have shot Fujifilm for years and love them. In my opinion, my GFX 50R with the Fuji GFX 45mm lens is amazing and will blow away anything Sony or Canon has to offer. The Fujifilm cameras also give that wonderful, tactile, intuitive old-school shooting experience with dials rather than ploughing through menus. I also have the Fujifilm XT4 with the newer Fuji 23mm f1.4 lens if I want something smaller and lighter for say a bit of street photography. You shoot some great photos btw.

I know this video is some months old, but about 1.5 years ago, i switched from Panasonic Lumix to Fuji. Even with my best lenses, the lowlight perfomance was so bad with the MFT-Sensor. A fried showed me some pictures taken with his X-T1 and I was shocked, how good they were even with this old sensor. So I bought a X-T2, which I sold after one year of usage and upgraded to the X-T5. What a nice piece of gear. I love it!

I did. I sold my R5, my 85 RF 1.2, my 70-200 RF 2.8 and my 100 RF macro. With the price of the R5 body only I could buy the XT5 and two lenses : 56 1.2 WR and 80mm macro. You loose a bit of DoF blur but I end with a 85mm and 440grs lens compared to the 1200grs of 85 1.2 (which is perfect in terms of performances but too heavy, and too expensive). With the times coming , I prefer saving a bit of money and carry something very lighter. It is a joy. And the film simulations 😍. Now I take time to do photos and it is great.

X-T5 here, I think there isn't a better camera for street photography right now ❤and it's gorgeous to see and yes, it's so fun shooting with it!

Some time ago , I did switch from Nikon FF DSLR to Fuji X-T2 then X-T3 with good quality glass, and, I was never Impressed with the colors that everybody claimed were so good, JPEGs were over saturated (RAW processing on Lightroom was a challenge too), tried all the film simulation available and got overall frustrated, the only one I really liked was the Black and White (Cross?) , sold them all and bought into Sony FF and been really happy since, said that , I am intrigued by the latest announcement of the X100VI , I could use my A7CII for travel with a small lens, however , that still would not be "pocketable" like this Fuji would, I am tempted to order this and try to see if Fuji improved on their color rendition and this sensor is better than the ones I used in the past, worth the try, if not, will be going back to B&H ---the sensor size is right, IBIS a must on any camera, the big question will be if the lens is any good with this sensor and AF system ......that potentially could be its weakest point .....

Great video. I have been a Canon guy for forever. I do love my canons, and they have a place for professional work, and there are definitely things I use them for...but I just got my first Fuji X-T5...and I can already tell this is going to be the camera I carry with me everywhere. You are so right about everything you said. I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Canon R5, but i can definitely see it collecting some dust in the near future.

Me too... I have an X-T3 with 23 1.4, 35 1.4, 10-24, 56 1.4 and 55-200 zoom. Recently bought Canon R6 with 50 1.8 & 35 1.8 lenses. The full frame image quality is unreal, but so pure and real life... the photos lack soul and character compared to the Fuji colours and customisation available. The speed of auto focus on the Canon is so incredibly fast and insanely accurate on eyes, is shockingly good. I don't like the Canon limit of 1/8000 (when I like to shoot wide at f1.8), my older Fuji can do 1/32,000. The Canon system is much heavier too. Shockingly the Dynamic Range is better on the APS-C Fuji by about 1 stop! Not sure if the Canon is for me... still early days in trying to find a LR PS editing style process to give the Canon more of a look/feel. But the IS on the Canon is wow good - handheld shots at 1 sec with no blur is just insane. The Canon metering is quite different to Fuji - Canon darker shots in general (midtones too dark). The Fuji exposures much more pleasing to the eye. (Easy to adjust in post, but the DR limits this slightly). Hope this assists someone else who is thinking of going full frame. It's more complicated than you think!

I recently sold my 5D and 6D and bought an x-e1 and x-t2. No regrets. As great as the classic Canons are, portability, price and the fun factor make that I’ve never looked back and enjoy my Fujis.

Matthew - such a great video. Appreciate your voice and actually showing your excellent images, too! Am very curious to know your thoughts on the X-T5 vs. the X-H2S? Do you notice much of an autofocus difference between the two? How about build quality, anything to note, does the X-H2S feel much better built? Curious to know anything else for someone mainly interested in photos but wants the best autofocus available!

In 2016 I left Sony for Fuji... Not because of upgrading but all my kit was stolen and I did not have insurance (I was studying photography), and a friend shot with Fuji so I could borrow his lenses. I had just enough money at the time to buy a new X-T10 (£500) and I borrowed his XF 35mm F/1.4, 7 years later I still shoot Fuji but now professionally and I still have that XF 35mm F/1.4. I don't care about APSC, Full frame etc as no-one when you produce your images asks what you shot with, pretty sure that the only people that care about what the camera was are people that spend more time buying gear than using it. Personally I am still using an X-T3 really had no need to upgrade my camera yet, we do use several Fuji cameras though from the X-E3/Pro 2 (not as often now mainly because we have more cameras than photographers) to the X-T5 which is used when focus speed and accuracy is important, but for most of the studio work speed is not important. I doubt I would ever move to full frame, If I was going to change it would be to GFX but even then I wouldn't want to carry that setup. The X mount is getting better by the day too, now we have quality 3rd party options (really rate the Sigma 56mm and 23mm) to add to Fujis already stella glass (well mostly, not a fan of Fuji Zooms)

I know what u mean, I got canon for 7years. I bought an x100f for 4 ago and loved the film sims.sold it cause of the fixed focal length. I bought an xt3 and some primes and fell in love with it. iam using canon for prof. Work only. Xt3 is so much joy to shot and travel

i went from Canon 5D2 and L lenses to Fuji, XT4 and 16-80. Then many other lenses, and honestly, 100% agreed with all what you said. I really love the dedicated dials, the aperture ring on lenses, the look of the image. Taking photo with Fuji gear is a lot of fun. And as a bonus, it makes GREAT photos.

I have an r6 and 24-70 2.8 that I used to use when I would do photoshoots frequently for others. I tend to shoot on my iPhone all the time now even if I have it around because I hate carrying it around and all the annoyance it brings me. I love shooting with my 15 pro max but hate my canon setup for fun. Hoping this resolves the issue 🙏 Looking at the xt4 or xt5 because of the film emulation and convenience factor. Like basically no one needs this crazy type of low light performance unless you’re shooting concerts all the time.

I did the opposite. Had a Canon 5D Mk III, then got the Fuji XT3 with 16/ 1.4, 33 1.4, 16-80 and 55-200. Images were really really nice, when they were focused properly. The AF, especially the eye AF, was garbage. I couldn’t rely on it. Sold the whole shebang and got a Canon R6 with RF 24-105 f4L and the Supreme lens of all, the RF 50 1.2. Images are amazing and AF is amazing. This is my forever camera. I loved the Fuji, but it’s not in the same league.

I started shooting photography 6 months ago, and I had heard good things about the x-e3, so I ended up getting it for 300 bucks and then bought a lens for 400, couldn't be happier, I've fallen in love with it, what a coincidence that our first was the x-e3

Taking photos on any Fuji camera is absolute fun. I always love shooting on a Fuji camera. Editing them is a joy as well. It’s a shame I couldn’t keep it.

Left Canon for Fuji myself too. I was T2i then M and M50 for mirrorless but left to go XS10 and XH2S. You should try some of the 3rd party lenses for Fuji too. Affordable and pretty good value.

Long time, many decades shooter with Canon. Switched to Fujifilm cameras & invested heavily in their lens lineup. Have NO regrets.

I went from a Fuji X-Pro2 to Canon R6. The Canon took amazing images, but it almost never left the house. I'm not a pro, but as good as the image files where, it was boring (and heavy) to use. So, I traded it in on another X-Pro2 (graphite edition) with there nice primes on an even trade. The files might not be as easy to tweak in LR, but I'm having a lot more fun creating images.

I’ve been with Sony for 9 years. Just 3 months ago I made a full jump to Fuji and I LOVE IT.

Great video Matthew! I just sold my good old trusted Canon 5D mk3 today to get another Fuji lens. I don't regret it a bit. Canons might have been a superior cameras but Fujis are what makes me to go out and shoot. Nothing is more important that this.

Full frame Sony guy here ranging from the 7SIII, 7IV, to the 7C. GM glass and third party. I picked up the X100V as they were becoming ridiculously popular, fell in love, just recently switched to the XT-5 with the "kit" lol lens, added the 23 F2, the 33 F1.4, and a Sigma 56 1.4. I am in love with the images coming out of it with those lenses. So much so that I have picked up a Fuji OCF trigger and started shooing my portrait work on the Fuji and leave the Sony in storage. I have even considered selling the Sony gear for a GFX 100S II... Yeah, I said it. 😂

Totally agree with you on the film-looking images that Fuiji cameras and lenses can create. I’m not even talking about the film simulations, just the way the images are rendered ❤

When the D800 came out years ago, I finally bought it and thought I had reached the top of the mountain. It was my dream camera. It also felt like an achievement. But I realized I just didn't shoot very much with it. I came to the conclusion that I really didn't like photography. That was until late last year I figured I would pick up a small little camera to shoot some stuff at a Christmas market. I chose a second-hand X-T30 and holy crap I immediately fell in love. I came back into photography with a vengeance and haven't slowed down since. Specs aren't everything. It took me going through building PCs, and playing guitars, to see the pattern of spec chasing. Always buying into the marketing of buying the best as opposed to buying what's right for you. That wisdom came with age. Now I shoot with my X-T30 pretty much everyday and the D800 is still sitting in a closet collecting dust.

a nice thing about the fuji 100 mk 6 - take it anywhere. many events don't allow "big pro style" cameras in.

Xtrans sensor technology produces a more organic and "analog" look to images compared to Bayer sensors which have a very digital look. Additionally, Fuji has done an excellent job with film simulations. However, the full-frame sensor can never be surpassed in terms of low-light performance and dynamic range.

Wow, when I saw pictures taken in Belarus I came up with a conclusion that you must travel a lot! Fujifilm lenses are incredible. My personal favorites are 90 f2 and 33 1.4. Their lenses are so beautifully crafted. I hope I'll get 150-600 one day.

I went from crop > full frame >crop and honestly the ability at first to recover 5+ of shadows and highlights was cool, but realistically I never find myself running into limitations due to the smaller sensor size. It's far more important that your camera makes you want to shoot rather than it being a technically superior camera.

I went Sony to Fuji to OM Systems and back to Fuji. Nothing made me want to shoot like the X-H2S and the x-t4. I shoot a ton of Pro Wrestling and my images with other systems were ok, but everything on Fuji because I truly enjoy shooting with it, feel more alive.

I just sold my trusty 70D and picked up a X-T1 and I’m super excited! I hadn’t been shooting as much as I’d like just because dragging around a full size dslr with a big heavy 24-105 and then editing photos has felt like a bit of an undertaking lately. It’s also hard not to draw attention to yourself with that setup for casual shooting. I’m really looking forward to the compact size, and the film simulations for sooc jpeg goodness when everyday shooting. Then again I might hate it, so I kept my 6D just in case 😉.

I think it’s all personal preference, when I first got into photography I always dreamed of getting a Sony and I got my hands on a Sony a7 ii and fell in love with it, it was a dream come true, later on I ended up also realizing I liked Fuji cameras a lot too and now very much enjoy using both. Whatever camera inspires you.. USE IT !!

Shoot Nikon for past 7 years or so. It all started with a D3200 that my dad gave me, and I just started to shoot everything on it. Couple years later bought D7500, then Z5, when my hobby became my work. At the end of 2022 I sold all my Nikon gear (Z5+4 lenses) for Fuji X-H2s. The main reason was that I slowly transferred to video instead of photo, and needed good hybrid camera. Never regretted it! Fuji is just amazing, and I love every second with it. It gets the job done when I use it for work, but also it inspires me to pick it up for casual photography, and those film simulations… I fell in love with it. I got into photography a few years ago for fun and shot Canon. Idk why, just the system that interested me. Overtime, lost the spark of interest. A friend of mine just got into photography and chose the Sony system. Never been attracted to Sony. I had my eye on Fujifilm with the hope to get back into it. Plus, I like how compact they are and will be great for travel. So happy with my purchase of a XT30ii and making photography a fun hobby again ❤

I am using a sony a6300 for almost 4 years now and did some smaller jobs here and there, but i really considering changing to Fuji this year.

switched to Fuji myself, was great and loved it but missed full frame bokeh, low light iso and overall image quality that you only get with full frame

I have to use a canon 80d for my day job and I hate everything about it. For my personal photography, I use an XT-3 and an X100V. Sometimes after a long day of shooting with that canon, I come home and unzip my Fuji bag and can feel the joy just come over me followed by a sigh of relief.

Thanks, Matthew, for a really great summary of your switch to Fuji. I found it very thoughtful and balanced. I'm about 3 months into the Canon Fuji transition, and came on it very much like you did, via the lovely X-Pro 2 rangefinder camera, and a few Fuji lenses that I loved with it. I did not make the move to Canon mirrorless, so I experienced that big transition when I went to Fuji. I bought the XT-3 about 3 years ago, but it never excited me--I didn't like the retro style after having grown up with film cameras. Anyway, I bought the XH-2, and I love the IBIS, the viewfinder, and the much cheaper Fuji lens family. Like you, I don't do much video, but this camera is inspiring me to try it out. I have only two reservations about the Cropped Sensor format. First, we're working with a smaller sensor and even at 40mp, I think the Fuji sensor comes close to full frame, but it really can't match it. I've accepted this in exchange for the smaller, lighter size of the equipment and the lower price point on lenses, which has allowed me to have a much larger range of lenses than I could afford with Canon. Second, vintage lenses are designed for full frame, and I really love some of the things you can do with old lenses. Putting a 50mm lens on a cropped sensor gives you a 75mm, so it's hard to find anything that works well at 50mm (33mm needed) or less. On special wide angle lenses, like fisheyes or bokah monsters like the Helios, you lose a big part of the full frame image. Other than those two small things, the Fuji X-X2 and the lenses are awesome. There is also a growing source of high quality third-party lenses for the X-mount, like Viltrox.

My view is most cameras of the last 15 years are great for photography and unless you need extra megapixels, the fastest/most accurate autofocus or a particular colour science/look, photos will turn out great if you know how to take photos. For video, particular cameras will do video better, there’s no question on that. I like the older Fujifilm cameras, XT-1 and XT-20 - all I need for photography and the photographic experience I am looking for. Recently got a 5D Classic and 6D and these older Canon cameras have their own character, outstanding image rendering and make you concentrate more on photography and not the tech in the camera.

Been shooting Fuji professionally since 2018. Pro for almost 40 years. Currently use the X-T5 as my main. I'd never go back to Canon or even Nikon. My associates shoot Sony. Eh. Yes, high ISO can be noisy. But I ask people "How large are you going to use that 6400 ISO image?" I shoot mostly corporate events. Most image go no bigger than a computer screen. My headshots and portraits (ISO 125) are so beautiful. Why pay those ridiculous prices for Canon/Nikon and Sony?

If you are shooting a lot in low light indoors in a night club then go to modern full frame mirrorless or use fast primes on the APS-C Fuji.

I had similar experience as you. I had the 600D, then 5DII then the R. The RF lenses are just stupid expensive. Yea you can adapt EF lenses that are cheaper but for some reason it just didn’t feel right and the size of it is just not balanced. A year ago I saw a very cheap xt3 with a 70-300 lens and I just thought I’d buy, sell make a bit of profit but I fell inlove with it. It’s an amazing camera. I now own xt-3 and xh2 and a few 1.4, 1.2 prime lenses. I couldn’t be happier.

I switched to Fuji from Lumix. After a year I'm moving back. I thought there wasn't anything worse than Panasonic's DFD autofocus but then I met H2 and even worse H2s. Everytime I finally found the good settings for AF they released a new firmware that basically destroyed everything. Hands down on my new S5II, I have a camera that actually can reliably focus + the nice bonus is it's much cheaper including the lens. Yes, FF is cheaper and lighter than APSC plus the body build quality is just on another level.

Also from Canon R7 to Fuji X-H2, because of the RF mount, to pricey. And the Fuji colors are so nice....no way back for me.

My first mirrorless is the Fujifilm X-H1 and i just enjoy the camera, coming from old Nikon DX DSLR. I really wanted to get into Z mount, but the offering was still not there, either not having what I need(Zfc, Z6, Z50) or being too expensive(Z6II). I finally decided to get the X-H1 with both physical controls, a hefty grip and a top LCD even though It's 5 years old. I paid 700€ for a mint X-H1 and 300€ more for the 23 f/2, which turned out to be a great first lens for the system. Coming from eastern Europe, the XF lineup not what we call affordable, but still, I am saving for used XF glass, if that tiny 23/2 can do what it can do. I love the tactile feel, the aperture ring, the dials, all this making it more involved to use your tool, as a slow-shooting hobbyist. The faster, streamlined X-H2/H2s make sense for the pros. I was advised to download the free Capture One Express for Fujifilm so I had no problems with raw, so my images just come out as shot.

Fuji is tempting, extremely capable and just a likeable brand. But switching systems has to be carefully thought through. Do you adapt easily to new UIs? What lenses are you going to use? Are there rental options for those special occasions nearby? I was very tempted with Fuji in the past and again when I was ready to leave the F mount. But it was clear for me I wanted a 24-105/120 equivalent zoom to be on the body 70% of the time and a 100-400 20%, the rest with primes. Fuji took forever to deliver a 16-80 and that lens didn't turn out to be great.The 70-300 didn't exist. So I went the Z6 route and couldn't be happier. I use the 100-400 a lot more than I initially thought I would and the 24-120 is excellent as well, as is the 50/1.8 that I threw in, though I hardly use it since the opportunities don't arise as often. The EVF was a pleasant surprise. I can go and rent most other Z-mount lenses, while the selection of X-mount alternatives is very limited. On top of it I didn't have to fight 15 years of muscle memory.

I wonder how many Fujis and Sonys the lack of third party glass for the RF mount has sold.

Why do you even want the RF lenses? When I shot with the RF mount, I used my EF lenses and they were great. But like you I completely switched to Fuji. Shooting X-H2 in the studio tethered and it is marvelous (with the 50-140 F2.8 mostly at F7.1 and above 90mm). I have the X-H2s for video.

What about low light AF? For example Sony a7IV can focus in total darkness with fast prime. Not to mention 12800 iso is totally usefull.

I switched cameras a lot in the past - finally I own the Fuji XT-5 and keeping it. There is just something to Fuji that goes beyond technical specs.

Man, I am right on the verge of switching, I cannot hold on to my beloved Canon anymore, thinking about how many moons sleeping with 5Dc 1Ds3 5D2 and R and tons of EF L lenses, and now seeing fun and character from Fuji X-T1, it is like cheating man, that feeling...

I was close to switch but I do shoot lots of video and do get great results with canon. Still I really like the more film like look from Fuji but switching did not make sense especially as I had already RF glass. But if I will have some spare money available I will get a Fuji with 23mm lens as a fun camera. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this 😊🙏🏻

I've used Nikons since the '60s but switched to Fuji recently. It's more compact and a fun camera. However, I won't part with my older Nikon D700 and D4. They are real beasts but the color rendition is excellent.

My dad shot Fuji all his life. I inherited his OG X100... and that became a GFX100S. So yeah, be careful. It tends to get crazy.

This video is an example of how everyone values different things and has different preferences. The Fuji X-PRO 2 was the worst camera I ever owned. Also the Fuji prime lenses I had the 23mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 were both the worst lenses I ever used. Finally I never liked the quality of the X-Trans sensor raw files. If you’re watching videos to figure out what camera to get. Stop and rent the cameras you think you might like it use. This is the best way to know.

Sony shooter here and after 4 years of saving and chasing 3rd party glass and 6+yr old used camera bodies to keep prices down, I've realized the huge amount of advantages I could have by making the switch. I can buy multiple bodies, 1st party high quality glass, get better video specs, spend more money on travel to actually TAKE photos.. The cost of full frame just wasnt adding up and that doesnt even touch on how sterile my Sony was starting to feel. Im about to make the switch!

I have Nikon z full frame and Fujifilm xt4 and 5! Do you need full frame? In some cases yes!

I liked my R6 but it always felt like it was missing something. I also felt like I couldn’t get the photo settings fleshed out. RF lenses are crazy high. The highlights in 10bit Clog-2 had deceptively horrible roll off. To top it off they never solved the overheating in 4k even in 24p.

I´m shooting on Sony since 7 years now, started with APS-C (6500) and now I have the 7RIV and thinking about getting a Fuji as a secondary camera for travel, vaccation and almost everything else where I don´t need 61MP

Any camera system is great these days. But I can’t live without my full frame Sony A7R5. The dynamic range is insane. Video files are such a pleasure to work with. Even without S-Log, you can edit the clips to extremes, recover shadows and highlights, all without introducing weird artifacts or noise. Not to mention the AI autofocus. I do love the Fuji color science but Sonys last cameras have improved a lot and at the end of the day, we edit photos to get the look we want anyways so I feel like color science isn’t something to care for as much across all brands. The photographer’s skills is all that matters at the end of the day.

I only wish the af was slightly better on fuji, other than that fuji is also pretty good in low light for an aps-c especially with a stabilized lens combined with the ibis if you have steady hands, just make sure you use capture one to work on the raf files. What boggles my mind is that images with almost 2 stops over exposed can be saved while on canon those files would be gone forever. I also come from canon (dslrs) and the lack of 3rd party lens support on canon mirrorless cameras made me switch, I don't regret my choice.

I have an X-T3 and find frustrating to not have what the X-H2 provides (custom settings) but with mechanical wheels that can be overridden by a custom setting (maybe with a red led at the centre if the physical value is no longer relevant (unless you move it and it overrides the custom settings). I would be very interested in a video on the difference in shooting with one or the other. I am not a pro, and if an animal pop his head, I don’t have the memory muscles to switch to AF-C, shutter speed to 1/2000, continuous shooting, etc… unless every time I switch off the camera after taking a photo on a hike, I prepare the camera for a jump scare. On the other side, I feel, I’ll miss the wheels. Maybe I should first at least put them on the right hand front and rear dial and stop using them…. Don’t know. Also I am thinking at switching to Sony because I am not a pro and having an exceptional auto focus would let me shoot with aperture priority, expose to the right and focus on finding opportunities and framing…

Great video! I bought in to the Sony system. Technically great cameras. I’m only on an A7RIII, and it still does 90% of what I need. However, I agree with you about the lack of soul. No matter how I dress it up, it just never feels fun in the hand. It’s just a tool! I want an old X-E1 or Pro1. Just for my everyday enjoyment. Though I always keep my eye on the new stuff they put out!

I had the XT1 and loved that camera . Also had two of there 2.8 zoom lenses . I sold it all and went with the Canon R6 and about 17k worth of lenses . I’m just a hobbyist and probably do t need all their beat glass, but it’s a mental problem I possess . Anyways I’m living in major regret , as the Fuji system was so much easier to pack while hiking . The Canons giving me that DSLR vibe again ,as it sure seems heavy and bulky compared to the Fuji. And as you mentioned, what your comfortable with makes all the difference in the world . If I had a Time Machine I would go back and keep my Fuji gear ,and add the XT5 and a longer lens 😢

Just recently did switch from canon r6 and rp, liked my canons as work horse, but after a while love for photography gone.. And Xt5 bring that joy back, sold all canon gear, for xh2s and few lens and got some cash left, waht a great deal 🤑

Great video. I’ve also been shooting canon for over 18 years but after getting into Fuji I sold my canon R and L lenses because it was just not fun to use them. I love the tactile design and all manual controls on my Fuji X-pro2, however I can’t see the XH2 being an upgrade. It has the same PSAM dials as all the other manufacturers do, so at that point I’d rather just have a Canon R6 or Sony A74. Possibly the Nikon Zf - it’s caught my interest.

Another little nice fact, most movies are shot with a sensor size much closer to apsc than ff. So if you gravitate towards a cinematic look, apsc nails it just fine

I just made the switch from Nikon to a Fuji X-t5. The Fuji is way more enjoyable to use and makes me want to bring it everywhere.

I loved my fuji xt2 but had so many reliability issues with it. Looking at upgrading and the r6 is available for less than the XT5. Canons compact primes are also similar weight and cost with better DoF than most XF lenses. Fuji just isn't the smaller, lighter and cheaper alternative anymore. I do love my x100f tho.

Very good points, I agree (I’m also a fuji lover since a long time 😅) I already have a XT5, loving it, but i want a second camera for my professional shoots (documentary style). So a second camera for having a back up, but not only. Also for having one prime on each body (as I don’t like zoom), carrying both cameras with a double strap. First I was going for another XT5. Same ergonomics, same tactile memories for using both, it seems the natural way to go. However, the XH2 or XH2s could be a good choice too, especially in order to use bigger lenses on it (potentially a 50-140. The 18mm will be mainly sticked to the XT5, and longer focals lengths on my future second body, XT or XH) but I know there is a good grip available for the XT5 (even if it’s not a battery grip). I’m also afraid that I could get confused in the different ergonomics with one XT5 in my left hand and one XH2 in my right 😅 but I probably could get used to it. I don’t do video neither BUT it’s an option in the future so having the XH2(s?) specs could be a good thing indeed. Any thoughts on that? Do you shoot with one body only and do you use your XH2s only for video? Thanks :)

My Fuji purchase was mostly a financial decision. I wanted to move from using my phone to a "real camera". When I began my research and shopping it became painfully clear that so many of the popular name equipment was way out of my budget as an amateur/enthusiast. But, I kept researching and eventually found videos about Fuji equipment. After lots of research and patient shopping I settled on the X-T3 about three years ago now. When I saw it I was taken back to the last "real camera" I used and still have, my Ricoh X-RP film camera from 1984. The controls on top were familiar. So, I shopped and shopped and shopped and finally found a barely used kit package with the 18-55, a grip and extra batteries for much less that the price of just a body for the big name brands. I still use it and it's still more than enough camera for me. I was able to then patiently shop for good deals on lenses and have since purchased barely used copies of the xf56mm f1.2 and the xf90mm f2 at great prices(both under $500 U.S.). The 56 was still under warranty as it was less that 6 months old. I've been really happy with my choice. The X-T3 is a really capable camera that has allowed me to learn and grow without having to sell a kidney!! LOL! Happy New Year to you!

AGREED! I really want to go back to Sony [A7iii] or consider Nikon [Zf], however, I have the same issue: Fuji is just so light, reasonably small, affordable, and crisp - I've had to develop tactics around its shortcomings: glitchy autofocus and lower dynamic low-light range. But in the end, applying tactics to overcome shortcomings has been worth it in terms of IQ, ease of use, and portability. One pet peeve: why can't Fuji develop a 56mm f1.4 or f1.6 LM WR? The 50mm f1.0 is a frankenlens [on par with FF weight / heft] and the new 56mm f1.2 is just too much bulk for an APS-c system.

I shot with an R6 and an R5, and I really like the system, but they currently don't have enough native lenses. I had to either spend a ton of money, adapt an older(often second-hand) lens, or go without any weather resistance. Since I like shooting nature and wildlife in all seasons, that was an issue. I ended up selling it all off. I went back to Panasonic micro 4/3, and I'm happy with the decision.

I have 3 canon full frames for the studio and a fuji xt5 as my personal camera.
