Lol don't you mean EA has gone too far? Fuck it's almost impossible to find a games publisher nowadays that believes making customers happy will make them want to come back for more.
Still, we mustn't forget of the game. If we did, we would need to let go of the memory of the true hero of the ME Saga. He who sacrificed himself to protect us from the armageddon that was the ending. He who lives in all of us, attempting to stop bad endings even to this day. His name was Marauder Shields. Remember Him.
There only is one golden rule in gaming. Dont ever buy any game published by EA nor any game sold on Origin. Works great for me but hey i'm just one of the few who prefer quality over quantity.
If anyone doesn't agree with the consumer rights that TotalBiscuit is addressing in this video, you are stupid. Imagine buying a car, but you have to pay extra for a steering wheel. Video games are still a product people and needs to be respected as a product.
BioWare has gone beyond milking Mass Effect. You can buy Mass Effect shoes, snowboard, goggles, drinking glasses, shot glasses, usb sticks, laptop bag, lifesize models, any kind of action figure you can think of... I mean.. it's just ridiculous. I like Mass Effect, but do I really want, Mass Effect Shoes, with a Mass Effect Belt, with a Mass Effect T-Shirt with a Mass Effect Sweater, with a Mass Effect laptop bag, with a Mass Effect USB stick, all with me while I'm going snowboarding with my Mass Effect snowboard and goggles and you can't forget to hydrate so I brought my Mass Effect thermal mug.. like seriously fuck.
So. They managed to make Javik completely inconsequential. It was especially funny when at some point this dialogue took place: Alliance dude: "Shepard, we are having some really big trouble decoding the Prothean archives. I'm not certain we can extract the complete plans of the Crucible." And I was like "well geez, I don't know what I can do to help, I mean I do have a live Prothean with me, but I kinda need him to risk his life in the front line in the name of Vengeance. I'm sure he wouldn't be interested in making a super weapon to destroy all Reapers." edited because spelling "veaengeence" is hard
I want to point out, I've poked around my files (For ME3) with a save editor, and can actually add Javik (The Prothean) to my squad without "From Ashes", meaning it came with my game, but I had to pay to be able to use it. (FYI, the character didn't work, but the game was ready for the last little bits of him to add him in)
You don't give any money to the architect or any of the construction workers when you sell your house. So why should you have to when selling a used game? They are both property.
A moment of silence for the good old days when developers were honest and cared about their customers. How could you do this EA mass effect is undoubtably my favorite game EVER!
Remember when we as gamers threw a fit over on-disc dlc and day one patches? And now we have loot boxes, tiered battle passes, gacha mechanics, paid early access, weird counts for in-game currencies to drive sales, multi-layered pay to win aspects, pay for convenience items, skins taken out of game and sold separately, actual gambling targeting kids. The list goes on. If only TB were here to really lay down the law.
Honestly, even if you bought the game, you would of been highly disappointed. And not just the ending. With microtransitions and pretty much turned the gameplay to Gears of War (there's even the camera that wants to give me a migraine).
gow was never plagued by micro transactions, unless you are talking about weapon skins which really dont matter one way or another, its cosmetic and wont effect the game.
The gameplay is the best that it has been in the entire franchise and I never noticed any microtransations (I didnt play the multiplayer horde mode). The only gripes I have with the game is the auto dialoge, the ending and the lack of shipmates compared to previous games
I just finished mass effect 3 (I've played the earlier games, but waited for me3). I loved the entire game, and I felt that although the ending wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be, it definitely wasn't "the great evil" that people made it out to be. I didn't buy any of the DLC and I never felt like the game was lacking in content, or missing chunks that should have been there. The day-one DLC is a shady business practice for sure, and I don't like it, but it didn't impact my enjoyment of the game at all. :/
you werent there when it came out, you didnt wait this game for years, you didnt hear all the promises (lies) of the devs, you didnt have to deal with their arrogance and denials. I wish I boycotted this game really made me disgusted of story driven games
to be honest i have 3 shepards on ME 1 and 2 and it is one of my most beloved and favorite games (going to start a renegade Fem shep soon) and i have yet to buy ME 3 all due to me HATING LOATHING ABSOLUTELY DESPISING the ending that i am okay with the ending to 2 as being the only ending i accept to see as a gamer and as a ME lover
onyx1186 You can play ME3 but for the love of God stop right before Earth's mission and you can imagine the ending. There are other problems in the game than the ending: extremely short, I finished the game 100% in one sitting, okay it was a 26 hour sitting but still. Auto-dialogue, less companions, less dialogue options, fetch quests everywhere, only one crappy hub, etc... Also I don't know how you do that I've only ever played one Shepard and I just play the new game + to see other parts of the game, it doesnt feel right if it isnt the Shepard I'm used to :x
Aaron Richards no i have yet to play ME 3 just due to the ending litterly i can not even allow myself to buy it due to that one flaw that it had. Also i thought all of the ME2 side quests were awesome but i wanted a lot more of them... wait side quests or DLC's that were side quests, and do we count loyalty missions as side quests?
would you say that a map would be considered cosmetic ? for example the last few call of duty games you got a map if you preordered/got the DE of the game
On the topic of DLC, think about Black Ops 2 and Ghosts, they both had a map that was allegedly only avaliable to preorders. and, 24 months later, (BO2) we can still get Nuketown to this day. And the same as Ghosts Free Fall map, 3 months later, still says it is avaliable on the boxes of the game.
Personally I thought mass effect 3 was a great game but the launch dlc was shameless and 'that ending' brought it down But the citadel dlc is my favourite dlc ever (yes I'm a die hard ME fan)
i completely agree with the part where you said they should put anything completed before launch on the disc, that's just plan manners, i mean it's like ordering a burger and the burger arriving and the waitress saying it's extra for the sauce if you want it. There should be a law about content being made before launch being put on the disc. And i can see what your saying with cosmetics and all that.
TB what if those guys that you get from the DLC are in the game as you buy it? and by buying the collectors edition you get one as like a companion or what ever.
The thing about day-one DLC's for PC... Its good and all, but if you have the patience to wait for few days after launch you can get it for free. How? By cracking the game. That simple. If the content is already on the game files, it's child's play to set few 0 to 1 in the initialization/data profile and you have unlocked the day-one dlc.
Wanna hear something weird? Now that this debacle has had over 2 years to pass by all of the incentives seem stupid. at the time I was tempted by all the additional content now it just seems stupid. The whole game has been devalued by the company who made it on purpose. dumb.
Actually, no. Games can sell new beyond the used copies on shelves at later dates. Sales, anyone? What about discounts? Just because it's used doesn't mean it's stealing money from the devs, TB. That just means it was sold new once and sold back for someone else. Simple as.
But it mean's that the person who buys the used copy isn't buying a new copy and the money is just staying with the retailer and not going to the dev. That means that two people had a version of the game for the one copy
Andulesan: And? Why do game makers/publishers believe they deserve special treatment in the new/used retail market system? Speaking as an author, I can tell you why they think that way: Budgets. Nothing more. And if that is the reason why these people are pushing DLC and preorders are hard as they are, then what does that say about their budget sensibilities?
Andulesan In reality- it does not. In most cases they would have simply just not bought the game at all. It's the cheaper price draw of a used copy that does the work. Price is king.
brandon oldberg: How I spend my money is my business. If I think a game is worth buying used, or with a massive discount, that's my call. Encouraging the death of the used/second-hand market just for the sake of more money going to the devs will kill a competing market. Once that happens, what reason is there for devs/pubs to lower prices? With how piss poor a job major houses are at releasing finished, unbuggy games within the last five years, and no quality return policies for Steam despite their Steamworks/CEG DRM, you'd be wise not to argue for giving these major names more power than they already have.
mass effect 2 dlc had a flaw I had all those free dlc then got a new xbox, the files would not transfer and I had none of them..even though I already had the game and content, the console upgrade took it away from me
Pre-order DLC weapons for single player can also be rationalised by allowing availability to them as the game progresses. Eg final fantasy 13-2, with DLC weapons, they only allowed DLC weapons to be bought in game at a certain points in the story and their upgrades too. Then at the end game, the DLC weapons were outmatched by several weapons in the base game and by some rarer weapons too.
Jake Lastnamenotfound i have completed 1 and 2 multiple times (so like 200+ hours), but multiple bad things (day one ripp off DLC, how nothing you did in the previous ones changed anything, the three different colour "choice" ending, the multiplayer effecting the single player etc.) all added up to the massive failure of mass effect 3, and i just lost all love for the series and didn't want to play it
The only real issues I have with ME3,is the lore-errors (and the ending, until they fixed it). The first major lore-error I noticed, was visible already in the demo: Andersen and Shepard run out of AMMO in the beginning of the game. The ammunition in most weapons in the mass effect universe is in the form of compressed matter(by the use of Mass Effect), and usually holds thousands of rounds, even on a single pistol. Running out of ammo is near impossible. -Thermal clips are referred to as ammo!
I love this game but I was steaming mad when they came out with the dlc on the day it came out, EA is a bad company! And then to top it off the ending oh my goodness, left me freaking sad, how dare they play with my emotions like that. Not so sure I want to invest $300 on the next series
have to completely agree with you, aside some old school title's Mass effect was / is one of my favorite titles. I was completely disgusted when they did this. I'm almost certain between this and how EA have treated the battlefield series I've really started to turn away from the big name publishers, and focus and the indies
I agree... to an extent. What most people forget is that the game isn't shipped the second it's done. There's about 2 months there were it's getting it's final check, it's being printed onto the disks and... well getting ready for the launch. in that 2 months it's very easy to create extra content for day 1 DLC because it doesn't have to be on the disk which is being finalized, it just simply needs to be uploaded to the digital distribution servers for download. That's my only gripe with you TB, but I do respect your opinion.
But your completely wrong, most of the content was on the disk, they didn't create the "dlc" during the prep for launch, that "dlc" was created as part of the game, it was only taken out as a day one dlc just to make them more money, not because it wasn't on the disk, because most of it WAS ON THE DISK THE WHOLE TIME, all they did was lock it, and sell you the key to unlock it.
I have to admit, and I do realize this is quite late in respect to the upload of this video, but it's videos like this that really make me respect Totalbiscuit. I am a new subscriber, meaning I started by watching his hearthstone videos, and I got hooked by his voice and humor and gimmicky decks. Now, watching some of these older videos, I admire how he not only has a strong opinion, but he sticks to it as well. Totalbiscuit seems to understand that his opinion can actually differ greatly from others and that is completely all right. Do I fully agree with absolutely everything he said in this video? No. But that does not mean I do not respect how he has standards that he sticks to. Totalbiscuit knows who he is and he knows what he wants. Period. Keep doing what you do, man.
Yeah, except for the fact that Javik is on the ACTUAL game disc of the standard edition. You can enable him with a config change. The DLC brings only the mission itself and some extra dialogues.
Mass Effect 3's ending was so bad that I actually found my myself wishing the other day that it was Free 2 Play. That way I could have just bought Rannoch, Tuchanka, and the Citadel DLC and retained some semblance of sanity.
Wow, you were beating DA:O in the hardest difficulty! I had trouble with hard. Don't feel bad TB, I didn't play it either. I just youtubed the video. The guy who made a ME3 episodic soap did a good job.
Protean doesn't change anything or bring something to the table... So the game was indeed complete except for the ending which was fixed by extended cut... So it's all good on bioware for now
I just finished the entire trilogy in Legendary Edition for the first time and can confidently say it was a one of the best stories ive every had the pleasure to experience. Ive wondered for almost a decade why people had such problems with the last game. And while i understand now looking back at old videos, as a total package now a decade later it is near flawless
As someone who played the ME games when they were released and who was truly mad at EA/BioWare for the Javik dlc/the "endings" to ME3 I have to agree with you. For people who have never before touched it, the Legendary Edition is a crazy good deal and a fantastic package.
I never bought ME3, I love ME but I hate this game. It's not jaw dropping and fairly average, but with all BS its not worth buying and there is better games that cost less to buy. I am not going to allow brand loyalty in that much I will be milked like a cash cow.
Until Mass Effect 3's ending get's the Indoctrination ending, EA and Bioware is dead to me and I'm never buying anymore of anything from EA and I'm only going to priate said games if I even want to look at them. They will not get a penny out of me. I pray that EA goes out of businesses and dies.
Totally agree with you, sir, and thanks for making this video! Another thing that should be mentioned about Javik is: when doing the mission on Thessia with anyone other than Javik with Liara (who's locked as a squadmate in this mission), when you reach the temple and listen to Liara's stories about the religious significance of the artifacts, the other squaddie just keeps saying theyre missing something. Only Javik reveals the Prothean influence in Asari evolution.
The EB games (child company of Gamestop I believe) shop in my city have pre-owned games yet they never bother me with them. Never have the staff recommended a pre-owned copy of anything I have asked for, games or consoles. Even the pre-owned skylanders and infinity toys are in a box on the ground you have to go searching through rather than on the shelves (even the ones in boxes). So it is difficult for me to agree with you on the topic of used games.
And javex wasn't even that interesting, his weapon was pretty cool I use him a little bit but it was a waste I would not do it again if I had it to do over. I want my $10 back Bioware/EA.
You know you could complain about Fallout 3's dlc operation Anchorage you get the best armor in the game that doesn't deteriorate and an extremely good armory and you can get it all on level 4 on normal difficulty. But on the flip side if you do, do it immediately it could be to difficult to complete. I think this is alright only because you have to go through a decently hard DLC to get the best armor in the game that doesn't deteriorate and an extremely good armory of weapons.
It's kinda debateble if it's the best armor in the game. For a player who loves sneaking around and killing enemies before they have time to say "WTF!?" (Like me), the stealth armor would be a better choice. And also if you kept using the gauss rifle constantly, good luck repairing it. Because it'll cost, a lot.
Realistically, anyone who pays 100 dollars for a game which is 40 bucks a year later, is a complete and total idiot. I have only ever preordered ONE game before, which was a pokemon game, for 60 dollars. here we are a year later, and it is STILL 60 dollars. The good games, as is the one afore mentioned, keep their value, but when u see a game that has a drastic drop of 60 dollars over the course of 10 months even, cant be that good to begin with.
And to this day all of what he says rings true. He is sorely missed. I still can't believe he is gone. I cried when I found out he died. It still hurts me.. I wonder what he would of thought of that goofy gsme high on life? And all the gaming and world controversy that happend since you left and it's alot. It's Saturday January 7th 2023 10:03pm at night in thr city of Las Vegas. Rip legend
People need to boycott companies when they start behaving like this. I haven`t touched and will never touch a Bioware product ever again after the DA2 ripoff. And I was a huge fan up until that point. It`s called consumer responsibility and people should exercise it if they don`t want to be screwed. We don`t ow billion dollar companies anything.
The day 1 DLC did not bother me though I did have the collectors edition for the extra $20. Which I did buy for the DLC because I thought it was exclusive to the collector edition. I don't get why every piece of content created should be on disk at launch. If its not done when they go into producing the discs then its kind of hard to get it on disc and out on time when you are mass producing something like this and shipping worldwide but they should have waited a couple weeks to release it
lol, Javik isn't that important to the story at all. You get more lore on Thessia and some fun character interactions but hes far from a big plot point in the game. Hyperbole. Just play the game without the DLC. Its not a big deal.
Javik was a huge part of the lore. He gave you some interesting information on his cycle, how the protheans were etc. The fact that he had dialogue after every mission and full dialogue during every mission alone shows that is was far from just a random piece of DLC.
Wissenschaft If they want to give you your money's worth it's all great and good if they do it. However, in this case it's 1.) a piece of content about a very important part of the game which isn't available to everyone on launch and 2.) developed and completed before launch and should therefore be free to download to everyone. It was just a quick cash grab as at least those who know the Mass Effect lore are aware that a living prothean is potentially a very big deal. Also mentionworthy is probably the Leviathan DLC. Even though it was developed after launch, it's still an important piece of content explaining the origins of the Reapers and therefore should have been part of the actual game. If you look at the other DLCs, Omega and Citadel, they are self-contained side stories with little impact on the main story line.
Oddly enough, I like Javik's obsession with throwing people out an air lock more than any of his lore. But I'm weird. :) That said, I'd prefer any Character DLC to be a free reward for buying the game as they did with Shale in DA:O
Wissenschaft "DLC at launch" sounds like "Yes, we cut the content to pieces so we can make more money on you, losers". The whole DLC thing is complete bullshit these days
I think what sucks the nard most is that the complete trilogy edition for the X360 contains only a cerberus network and multiplayer pass as "add-on DLC", nothing else. The PS3 comes bundled with most of the DLC, and the PC edition with all of it, yet the price is the same across the three.
Mother of God. The game is still fantastic, as is the rest of the series. Seriously, all I hear is gamers bitching like they usually do. You enjoyed the game up until pre extended cut ending, stop lying to yourself. At least Bioware owned up to their mistake and released something for FREE!! You don't see this anywhere!! day dlc was a bad idea. Ya Javik should have been a character from the very beginning. But dear god people. Deal with it. Bitching about isn't going to solve any problems
Yes I did, I enjoyed everything up until the beam, but that doesn't mean day one DLC is acceptable, or you can't sit and think on it for awhile and change your opinion. Looking back the game starts to fall apart in act 3 because of the rushed work, and then becomes very apparent at the end because they don't have time to write everysingle choice scenario, so all 3 endings seem to look the same. I mean we spend entire acts on tuchanka and Rannoch, but in act 3 we go spend a single mission on Thessia and then we get rushed to the end. I mean whole choices made throughout the other games are ignored aswell..why did I bother picking Anderson for the council? He leaves it anyway. Why did I bother trying so hard to keep my Spectre status in 2? You get it back regardless. Let's also not forget, that any amount of assets above 4,000 are irrelevant. Hell, the choices that lead up the the 3 endings are almost entirely irrelevant because your choices are pigeonholed.
You don't get it do you, even if the protean is on dlc, that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy the game dude, just don't buy the dlc. And I respect what you are doing by voting with your wallet but do you honestly think it will work? Clearly not because it has been 2 years which means what you did was completely pointless, I was thinking about doing before the game released this but I didn't want to regret me not buying this awesome game. You should have just bought the game without paying for dlc, that is the way to vote with your wallet. Even though you don't really listen to your viewers but if you stumble upon this comment, I have Disliked and Unsubscribed. Period.
'Journey does not = Destination.' Indeed but the major draw of the mass effect is the idea that your choices will have a effect. When the ending rolls around and it is revealed that it isn't effected by your choices it does indeed cheapen the journey you had trying to make the right choices.
They actually changed that when you get the Extended cut DLC which is still a free download at this time. You longer have to play multiplayer to get the best ending.
I think another option that would be acceptable is including codes for all future dlc free. So if you were going to get the dlc anyway, you get a bit of a discount, but no one else is screwed out of content.
+DownwithMarx First off sorry for having to separate the thread. It's not letting me reply to you for some reason. Shepard wasn't Indoctrinated when he talked to those VI's. He is never Indoctrinated at all if you pick Destroy with 5000 EMS. It makes no sense for them to detect him as indoctrinated. And the Epilogues are still a part of the dream because they happen before the breathing scene. they are just further editions to the events shown before extended cut, they don't change anything.
It's kinda cool that you can now acquire DLC free by gaining in game achievement, but the issue is that this requires grinding, and buying all 3 games on origin and not steam as there isint enough acheviments in mass effect 3 to buy the DLC.
I watched hannah from the yogscast play the prothean dlc, and it added fuck all to the plot line, you got a couple of flash backs that reveal maybe 2 technologies that you have never seen befroe, and if i remember correctly a mind probe.
You can get Javis, the prothean, by doing this: Step 1: Open Coalesced.bin with coalesced.bin editor. Google it. Step 2: Search for the code: MemberValidCID=22, MemberAvailablePlotLabel=IsSelectableProthean, Step 3: Now, replace the code in Step 2 with this: MemberValidCID=, MemberAvailablePlotLabel=, This will give you javis to play with, but not the from the ashes mission.
