This is what we call Cognitive Dissonance. He _really_ wanted to like the LEDs over the HIDs (after all, he just spent all the time dismantling his car), that he will make any conclusion to justify why LEDs are “better”. In reality, the components you referenced on the LED (the fan, the circuitry, the Diode) can just as easily go bad as much as the HID. Additionally, if you don’t care about the 10 second “warm up” time, they why even list it as an reason? It seems very clear on your own video the HIDs were brighter and more focused.

HID is definitely brighter from this vid, it is not close enough to be called similar. For headlights, it is extremely important to have a hotspot which your LED bulbs don't have.

Ah the things people do just to advertise / sell a product. It’s clear as day that these LED bulbs will provide LESS LIGHT on the road 50 feet in front of the car. But hey, they are instant on with no warm up time. Lol. Well worth it. Screw seeing and avoiding that tire on the road at night. LEDs FTW yo. Get some!! You must be blind. The HID has a super white focused hotspot which is way brighter and will go farther down the road. In contrast, the LED has no hotspot and sprays all over the place which means it will not shine as far down the road.
@rio20d
@rio20d 5 лет назад
It's true that there is no visible hotspot on the led, because the LED used here is aftermarket and it's slot in type LED that's why the light output is so poor. OEM LED which is the built in type is just as bright as HID. The problem with this aftermarket slot in LED bulb, is that their heatsink and fan is so small. OEM LED has much larger heatsink at the back of the headlights. LED weakness is heat. If its too hot the chip will adjust and reduce the intensity of the light output. If it's cooler, then it will throw maximum light output.

One of the biggest advantages of HID's over LED's, HID's throw the light further so you can see further ahead, LED's more light up right infront of you, that's a reason why HID's are more used for headlights and LED's are more for fog lights

I originally thought the same. However the Kelvin rating does have a impact on vision. There's a reason why OEM is around 4200 -4500k as that provides the most vision. Also HIDs do provide further range and spread wise cover more land. Im switching back to xenon after several d3s led kits.

the problem with aftermarket led is that the heat sink and fan is so small, led weakness is heat, if its overheat they can't output more light to the road, you have to keep it cool so it can throw max light. If you check OEM led headlights you can see their heatsink at the back of the led headlights is just massive. And as result of this the LED from OEM car manufacturers is bright and throw light quite far.

Bro you’re crazy, HIDs in general are 2nd to none when it comes to lighting from headlights, and tbh I’m glad I came across this vid because in your comparison it’s clear as day to see that the HID side is throwing more light, not sure I completely understand the completeness of LED lighting but I do know that to our human eyes they are brighter however when we get behind them to shine the way, they are not very bright! It’s the craziest thing ever... I’m just glad HIDs exist because they are the best hands down

HID in part will usually beat out any LED kit. Every application is going to be different tho. An LED in one headlight housing may be brighter then an HID in the same housing. Projectors, reflectors, bulb position and direction, a bunch of variables come into play. Its not just about brightness, pattern is even more important. A LUX meter will help out a lot.

the good ol HID is still king imho, you can clearly see how bright the hot spot is compared to the aftermarket LED, yes they look identical when you look/face at them, look nice too, but you should also look how the light throw/output is on the road. Night time driving is the best time to test it, from experience I can still say HID/Xenon lights output is still far more superior, it throws/output light much further on the road, than LED especially aftermarket LED. This guy is using aftermarket LED, look how small the heatsink and the fan is. with OEM LED, that's different story they are in fact very bright and I can say pretty on par with HID, have you seen toyota prius LED or just corolla LED headlights heatsink?, they're much bigger because it has to absorb heat from the LED chip. Usually the heatsink is already in one assembly together with the projector headlights ( 1 unit). Heat is LED enemy, if its too hot the light output will be reduced.

With the LED, you can even see the dead spots right in the middle where the rising angle meet the horizontal. That’s the where you need it most the“throw” for distance. LED’s actually put out more light but not in the right spot. You need an intense point of light like a filament or plasma arc. LED’s have come a long way by getting thinner and narrower to emulate the original light source, but if it’s not designed for LED you may be just flooding light(blinding) and not out and down the road. For now, HID for projector and a Philips or Osram quality halogen bulb for reflectors. Old halogens get dark so replace them well before they blow and imports are a crap shoot. I don’t buy Sylvania.

If you have a retrofit then I'd say hid. No fan problems or fitment issues And you can narrow down issues with hid kits a lot easier. Most high range hid kits already come with the proper equipment that caused flickering and stuff. I usually by from opt7 since I've had no issues with those I'd say the quality of opt7 is mid range definitely cheap in some areas but they outperform my in laws hid nation kit, my lights hit the end of the block from the middle of the street. But since they are softer than led, you won't get that clean cut off look that you see on modern cars. Plug hids have a better range than led

I always say the same thing to everyone about this ridiculous debate: LEDs are not as bright as HIDs simply because they don’t spread the light evenly; that means that LEDs will always look “spotted”, with dark areas on the beam pattern, which will be a big problem on rainy nights. LEDs work better for reflection lamps. Just change your bulbs to 5000k-5500k, and/ or change your ballast to 55w.

No hotspot with the LED kit in HID projector, and the HID's look waaaaay brighter. Cut-away was nice enough. OEM HID ballasts and ignitors are pretty damn reliable, and bulbs last a long time if installed correctly. LED's are actually more prone to fail, as there is more to it than just the bulbs. They also have a constant current/constant voltage power supply, and if you don't buy a highend brand, these are really prone to fail. No warmup time with LED's do not justify higher prone to failure and definitely doesn't justify the fact that your light output and beampattern is greatly reduced, but that's only my opinion. ^^

I'll tell from experience. The video showed your HIDs being much brighter because of the hot spot which lights up the surroundings nicely. This can be done through adjusting the silver tabs on the D2S Bulb. This adjusts the bulb so that it sits right inside the projector to create the Hotspot. You LED bulb is not able to be adjusted like the HID D2s. The LED is solid plastic, no adjusting tabs. The only way to adjust it and get a hot spot is to possibly add shims which will tilt the LED slightly up or down to find a hot spot. Which would be Ghetto and frustrating to do. I would love to go LED on my 2013 Acura TL if they remodeled the LED D2S Bulb to have those silver tabs between the base and the light for adjusting. That way you tilt the light up or down, left or right did get the best possible position for bright output. Till then, that Current LED Bulb isn't gonna cut it!!!! Now don't get me wrong, someone somewhere made have went with LEDs in the projector housing and the bulb seated nicely in a perfect position giving a bright hot and amazing sharp output and cut off line, but all projectors are not the same. What work for some may not work for others. I purchased some LEDs for my old car Lexus is250 and it was horrible 😫. The light was all over the place. No Hotspot and the cut off line was non existing. Took them out and put in a pair of HIDs 5000k and passenger side had no Hotspot. Drivers identified was bright and perfect. Had to add a shim to the passenger side to obtain a hot spot. However these were aftermarket Headlights which I'm sure weren't perfect

its no brainer really when you look at the wall, the hid is way brighter just by looking a more intense hotspot, compared to the led. The led that he used is aftermarket and its a slot in type which only have led facing two sides, while HID is all around. if its OEM LED then it will be different story, because the layout of the LED is designed differently to the lense,a lso it has much bigger heatsink compared to this aftermarket LED that he is using, the heatsink is so tiny lol. watch this video below and you can see the comparison the slot in led bulb that he uses similar type and an actual Bi LED projector that comes with lens ( Koito which is an OEM LED) used in car like Toyota and so on, so I suggest dont use aftermarket LED bulb that has tiny fan and tiny heatsink, the light output and distance is horrible and poor ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tnoabR6X04s.html

Led beam pattern are usually cleaner but as far as distance HID always shoots farther

having tried powerful leds and 35w hids on my depo projectors on passat b5 , i thin powerful leds (35watt) spread much better the light on sides and create a flat beam with same light everywhere, hids from the other hand light a bit worse on sides but by far superior hot spots on middle wich is better to see far away and not the trees at your 2 and 10 oclock , definetly both light superior to crap halogens wich belong to last century.

I had HIDs on my projector style headlights before then I thought I would try LEDs, there is literally no usable light on dark roads. I am switching back to new HID kits soon.

Normally LEDs are brighter than HIDs, but the throw in the LEDs are much shorter. I would stay with the HIDs because of the longer light throw distance.

Yeah but someone isn't paying him to sell an HID kit, so that's why he's not telling you how much halogen replacement LEDs suck ass.

DumbDuck44 - agreed but why would you do that to your subscribers / viewers?! Why tell them to buy something which is a DOWNGRADE from their current setup? Shit down make no sense.

@@I_know_what_im_talking_about For enough money, I'd tell my subscribers to drink bleach. Just depends on how you view your subs/viewers, as a revenue stream or some personal relationship where you care about them. For some youtubers its the latter, but many will gladly shill anything for the right kickback.

HIDs are better you get long distance clear shine view than Leds., LEDs have an abnormal glare when spread the lights on the road and have short distance focus and shine however LEDs life span are more longer than HIDs.

HID are way brighter and through light way farther, best for driving . LED are for blowing up clutches and donuts at Wal-Mart parking lot , and maybe some uncontrolled drifting. Nice car though .

You need the 360 Leds in the projectors, the two sides Leds are made for reflector housings
@NextGenTerminator

This is completely incorrect, to anyone reading this comment. Vehicle reflectors and projectors both operate best from a pinpoint light source similar to a lit filament

Led is the way to go ... Might be losing now but..... I'm an electrician and audio fanatic and with my LEDs I have no dropping lights when my system hits. LEDs might be losing now but give led some time and they gonna be the hot item.... They already are in residential and commercial applications.... Just saying from an electrician.... 😎

Some LEDs are just as nice but they're just financially out of reach for most, but that plays into how you said that the tech just isnt there yet. Anyways tho, I've heard of people wiring in decently sized caps, like a 100,000 Mfd, to their headlights to combat dimming. Wondering your thoughts on that?
@matthewmattson6881
@matthewmattson6881 5 лет назад
Another advantage with the LEDs though is the far far lower current draw, could you imagine a true 55w LED with a proper beam pattern? Insanity

I have factory HIDs in my GTI. I have factory LEDs in my semi truck. I’ll go with LED over HID in the long run. I had HIDs in my last semi and I had to replace the bulbs twice over 250,000 miles. I’m at 247,000 in this truck and I haven’t had a problem with my LEDs yet.
