As a long-term Ferrari owner, and previous 308 owner, I believe your car is a fantastic job. You started with a clean example of the worst 308 model from that dire period when emissions were more important than performance and have created from it a serious performance car with a stunning enhancement of the classic Pininfarina shape. Just brilliant!

I love it too. What's interesting is that Ferrari's 208 is a turbocharged four-cylinder example as well, and I would love to see one done in the same vain.

Watching what Mike builds, CNC machine is a lot of horsepower for what Mike currently does but I understand the step up in craftsmanship. I think a normal plasma cutter table will avoid all the sending parts and waiting to be cut from send cut send..Gingium fabricates in the spot after drawing up similar designs as Mike, things that need to be folded and boxed in welded.

I have one, using it for in situ work, and after four years, i've nothing bad to say about it other than that you have to know what its limits are - i use a large slab of cast iron (a former lapping block) to make it more stable.

As someone who has a TON of manufacturing experience, I would highly recommended looking into buying a used VMC, not a cheaper office mill like the ones you mentioned. For a little more money you can find something with better accuracy, repeatability, and all around more capable. As much as a lot of us like to poo-poo them in the industry, even a used Haas VMC would be better than a light duty Tormach, especially when it comes to anything automotive related. I bought my lightly used one-owner Hurco for $1500 and I've been able to make short work machining materials like 17-4ph. For around $15k you could find something pretty nice with a CAT40 spindle and some actual cojones. 😊👍

Most people build their own cars because they love it and secondly it sometimes starts off because if you don't have the money you have the time and that can counter set the cost, and if people can do what you do with the level of fabrication and welding then it can further set the cost, however nobody builds a car outright because its less expensive because no project car is cost effect! We are petrol heads because we love it.

Your advice on the build, and what it takes, is spot on. I built a tribute to the Camaro Gary Busey drove in the film The Gumball Rally. What it took to build is EXACTLY what you say it takes to build the car of your dreams. It took me 13.5 years from a unibody sitting on a homemade car dolly and two pickup loads of parts to completion (and it's badass). And + or - $60,000. In the beginning, I had thought about $30k. I REALLY appreciate what you do, what you're capable of, and love the videos. Oh, and I love this friggin Ferrari.

Tormach CNC mills are super user friendly and easy for beginners. I’m a supervisor in the machine shop of a local college and we have 2 of them and I love using them. Now that being said, they’re not the biggest baddest machines ever made and you’ve got to help them out every once in awhile by taking smaller cuts than what you would need to do on an old school Bridgeport manual machine. But for the price point and ease of use, you can’t beat it for a CNC machine.

Iv been watching this build since the beginning and appreciate that you didn't sell it. I really want to see it drive more. After years of watching/ waiting I wouldn't be alone in being very be disappointed and annoyed if you had sold it. Please excuse my while I vent a moment. A project car isn't as easy to start as you say. Unless you're only talking about adding a few easy bolt on parts that can be installed in an afternoon outside. It's really annoying when people claim anyone can have a project car. A real project requires a (secure) indoor work space with storage for many new parts and tools. Especially in locations that get weather other then 90% sunshine. No one in Vancouver BC were I live rents personal garage space for any use other then storage. Maybe in the US a person can rent a secure private garage or barn for a few hundred bucks a month and allows you to work on a vehicle in it, but that just doesn't exist here. I've basically been trying to build a car for 29 years. Unfortunately life had other plans. Severe depression costing me a job of 22 years. I wasn't technically fired. They called it a frustration of contract, which takes to long to explain. However starting over in your 40's with that one job to put on my resume, no formal training and every possible employer asking why I left a good job are clearly going to see me having depression as a liability. So a decent paying job is basically impossible. Even without losing my job buying a house here is extremely expensive as is renting. To rent a home with a garage big enough for a project car would cost atleast $3500 a month. I can't afford that, commercial shop space or to pay someone else to build my car. So my car just sits unfinished. Unfortunately I let depression destroy any chance at a worthwhile life. So Yes! I'm left feeling very F-ing bitter, and sad that I will likely never own a home, have a family or finish even 1 car, let alone multiple, cars like you, and other RU-vidrs, but it's not like I actually expect anyone to give a sh-t. I'll be shocked if someone even reads this. Rant over

The 308 is one of my favourite car shapes (prefer 288 GTO obviously) and would have loved to buy a non-running example for an engine swap and resto-mod but, living in the UK, less than 9% of all produced are right hand drive so finding an "affordable" project car is almost impossible. I have a Tormach 770M which is a pretty decent machine. Doing it again I would have definitely gone to a Tormach 1100M or MX which is their largest machine. Not that the 770M is not good but once you start machining you will always want to go bigger work and faster speeds. The 1100MX is really the last stop of " prosumer" machines before you get into things like needing 3 phase current, etc. I am very interested in the Langmuir MR1 (I also have their small plasma table) but it is very new to the market where as tormach has been around for a while. If you have 3 phase power and space it also might be worth looking into a used industrial cnc as they have a lot more ridgitiy, power, features etc.

It seems like yesterday that I subscribed to your channel, yet so long ago. I’ve been watching since the first farrariai video and I will probably watch all your projects. I have never regretted not selling a car but have serious regrets for most that I have sold. Once they are gone… they are gone.

While not nearly on the same level, I have a project car I've developed for 10 years. They're getting to be hard to find, but around $5k. But I was offered $60k for mine and also said no. I worked too hard on that car, thousands of hours and rare parts I could never source again without spending 3-5x what I originally paid. Sometimes things don't have a price. Kudos.

i think getting one in such good condition to start with had a few good points, sell all the parts you dont use as they are so good you get top dollar and you have the best base left to convert

Respect. I love your car, your skills, your vision, your hard work and passion. That car is a work of art and worth more than money. You can always sell it to fund your next mind-blowing project, whatever that may be.

I had the chance to drive a Spice chassis 308 IMSA race car back in the early 90s....it was an amazing car for the era..one of one..like what you built. Looked very similar...

I have watched the 244 GTK build from day one when you aired it on RU-vid. You did an amazing, solid build. I have my fingers crossed that you will do great at the time attack and that you, plus the Ferrari will make it back safely home. I hope to see the Audi build episode soon. God bless.

He forgot a very important bit of advice. Don’t try to do it on the cheap. You WILL be buying again, probably the expensive part you wanted first. Buy once, cry once. Buy the good stuff the first time

4:03 not just that, it's also the fact that any defunct car (whatever the reason may be) gets snatched pretty fast for parts. Such is the life of old cars. I have at least 35 cars sitting on my brother's farm property that were bought specifically because i knew that one day, said parts inside will be rare as oxygen on the moon. Between him and i, and some friends, that small patch of the property is almost like an American junk yard, a pretty rare sight in Europe - mostly because none of us have the time to pull them apart and downsize to smaller bits and stackable shells, which is the correct way to do these things of things. But back on topic, for Ferrari, Lamborghini and other old cars, there's a big market where, when defunct cars appear, they get put on hold, and don't even hit the open market. The value potential is just that high. In some cases, the parts inside are more valuable as parts (summed up) than the car whole. It's not odd to see a lightly damaged car parted out through dealers. If they weren't cars... it would be downright creepy.

You should coordinate a track tour around the US, and then other fans that track their car (like me) can come out, meet you, and run with you a little. Would be a great meetup. I would hit Road America, Gingerman, Putnam, Mid-Ohio, and others.
