There was an ancient pagan practice to sacrifice a swan and bury it under the foundation of a new home. The swan was seen as messengers of the gods and would intercede for the occupants, blessing them in their new home.

Y'all need to read the book titled "Swan Song", by Robert R. McCammon. It is post apocalyptic, specifically a post nuclear war scenario, and it is Excellent. The audio book, which is free here on You Tube, is amazing to listen to. Thanks again for another fascinating video, Simon!

In one performance of some opera where a swan carries off the dying hero, the opera singer missed the cue for the swan ... and it glided right past him. I feel sad imagining Swans, dying. Now I want to listen to the tune "Swan Song", by Dua Lipa. This Swan story Reminds me of King Henry VIII who had a female Swan he gifted to his 2'nd wife The Queen of England Anne Boleyn killed and cooked the night of her execution. Swans mate for life and the male Swan was just left alone after his partner was murdered. Today you learned this bit of Tudor History... Thank you Simon, writer, camera person etc for all your wonderful videos.....

In the song Twelve Days of Christmas it should be Seven swans a singing not swimming. AND it should be Four Colley Birds not calling birds. Colley is earlier English name for blackbirds.

Not sure about this whole upon death (or is that dead ?) thing, but I do wonder if it could be possible that in the dim past there could have been species of swans that had a more beautiful song than the current swans and those are what the people of those older times knew. Or they just had really odd tastes.

Whooper swans are not endemic to Greece at all. They breed right across Northern Eurasia from Iceland to the Russian Far East and winter in numerous areas of Europe and Asia from Northern China to Ireland (and occasionally Iceland). Greece is one of their wintering grounds but they have a wide range outside that country.

Every exporting or importing countries GDP effects the world economy. How much it effects it depends on volume and how many countries trade with them. GDP is gross domestic product which is everything that is produced in the country (simple, short, explanation). Note that services are also a product produced.
