Thanks for watching. Have you had this issue occur on your Harley? Was it covered under warranty and what was the cause in your particular case? More videos like this here: ru-vid.com/group/PLmgCmljtdCzWMExyPXgSeeJZYwOA1Ocj7

@@DCyclemoto Yep I'm hearing more about this too. Try and get video and photo of when it happens then take to dealer if your bike is under warranty. Wonder if they'll change it for you. Cheers

I’m going through this issue now on my 2016 Nightrod Special . My bike was caught in a storm while I was away and took my cover off . I got back and found bike soiled . However put in shop due to starting issues . Insurance denied my claim and now I have to foot the Bill costing me 2500.00 between labor and parts .

This speedos are bad from factory. My theory is units are sealed in high humidity of manufacturing facility. If you close too much humid air it might fog like in old watch. I could be wrong. Dealer yes will replace under warranty but this doesnt change the fact that brand new speedo has same issue - which will. My bike was under warranty when I noticed fogging but I didnt even bothered bring bike to dealer as I have seen so many posts that replacement is doing same thing. Now I drilled 2 holes and dude from one of big FB forum post it worked. I will know when it get warmer here as Chicago dont offer any weather brakes 😬 Really common issue with new m8 next to rattling gas cap, this fogging, bad oil pumps for 2017-18 models, buffeting with stock windshield, etc. Would be nice to have video on this 😬

I'm familiar with this problem. Seen it on various bikes, old and new, speedos and tachs. A few years ago an old timer Harley Tech told me to drill two small holes into the back of the gauge housing - about 1/8th inch drill bit (3mm). So you literally need to detach and lift the console on a touring bike (like a Road King), turn it over to access the back of the speedo, carefully drill 2 small holes (no need to remove the speedo if a friend helps you) and then reattach the console. This allows the trapped air to vent. It might take a day or two for it to happen. No, this won't damage anything if you're careful, go slow, and don't drill too deep! I've done this on some older bikes and it solved the problem and saved me a ton of money. No need to remove the bezel and disassemble the speedo/tach like other websites have done. It might actually make things worse because you're creating a new atmosphere inside.

Just watched a video on this. the factory that builds them is in Europe and high humidity (according to the vid), and a lot of them are affected. Even after replacing them, the new ones come with it! The fella drilled two tiny holes in the bottom and it disappeared and has not come back. Doing it to mine tonight!

I have a 2011 FLSTC, went for a ride the other day 35 degrees celsius outside , condensation appeared as usual , after 150 k's or so on the road , So absolutely nothing to do with cold temperatures . Makes me think that it is possibly to do with petrol vapour . Plenty of people in forums with the same problem , who have had it back to the dealer under warranty , just to have the new speedo do the same thing . Its a pain in the arse , and there does not seem to be any solutions that I can find.

I have this on my 18 Heritage. Mine is the opposite of most people though. Mine fogs up while I am riding, but clears up when I park it for about 5-10 minutes. Start riding and it fogs up again. It is just over the digital display, not the entire gauge. I have heard that it is a vented unit.

My 2018 Sport Glide has condensation issue as well, it started out small just over the LCD readout area. Now in April 2020, the condensation has grown to reach further up into the cluster. So much so that I’ve decided to replace with Digital Dakota aftermarket unit. Why pay H-D big $ for another POS. My dealer service department said condensation was “normal”. As far as I’m concerned, it’s never normal for a precision instrument to form condensation...I’d like to see binocular and scope makers get away with that excuse.
@ben_3256
@ben_3256 4 года назад
$20k on a motorcycle and the instrument you look at to see your speed is fogging up. Completely unacceptable. The dealer said “that is normal” which is beyond insane. The RPM gauge doesn’t fog up. You can buy a $5000 Honda and this will never happen. Getting mine warrantied.

I have had a bit of condensation on my Streetbob display, especially when taking it from cold garage to sunlight, mentioned it to dealer and apparently its normal ! Still in warranty so keeping an eye on it, I may have a closer look some day to see if it is sealed or vented unit. never had it on my previous Triumph, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda etc. Water and electronic modules are not good friends.

I remember hearing about this problem years ago as a H-D quality control issue with a supplier. But it raises the larger question of H-D build quality on premium priced bikes. This morning the Wall Street Journal reported that H-D stopped production of the LiveWire due to charging issues and dealers have a hold on bikes sitting on showroom floors. I'm sure its a minor fix but another PR black eye for the Motor Company and a 5% hit to their stock. Perfection is impossible but the LiveWire has been in development for over 5 years and to have a production problem now seems totally unacceptable. But its H-D's warranty that bothers me. On a premium priced bike H-D should fix foggy instruments, loose gas caps, rattles on tour paks, bolts that fall out, etc no questions asked for the original owner as long as they have their bike. This is the concept behind "premium" that the company stands behind their products. You shouldn't have to bring a lawyer along with you to negotiate warranty services.

Have the same problem on my 2020 Sport Glide. Same problem on my 2017 Dyna Low Rider S. Have talked to other H-D owners that have had this problem. Can't believe this wouldn't be good for the gauge. I have drawn attention to this with my dealer and they don't think it's an issue. If your bike is still under warranty, as mine is, let your dealer know so that if the gauge fails after the warranty ends you have a legal leg to stand on.

Hope this helps, My 2019 SG does the same, its not a new problem and fitting a new one doesn't always cure it. I have sorted my own, Not pretty but you cant see it when all back together. I very carefully drilled a hole in the underside of the speedo and glued a small plastic cup with a hole matched up to the speedo hole,then filled the little cup with silicone moisture absorbing beads capped the the cup. when the beads have absorbed the moisture in the speedo just change for new or heat up and use again. no more having to guess my fuel gauge readings or time, sorted. Harley have had this same problem for years,.

I had the same problem on my fat bob, it didn't matter how long the ride, or what the weather was like it still steamed up and stayed steamed up on both hot and cold days. The dealership changed it under warranty, the new one was great until last week and now the new one is streaming up and it's only a month or two old. I will talk to them again to see what they say.

Hi Alf, 12 months of having a HD Fat bob i was out riding last Wednesday and ended up riding in heavy rain. this week end when it was warm i noticed condensation on the inside exactly where the digital display is. i thought it would have dispersed in the heat, but it was still there. i remembered you did a vlog on it and i have just watched it again as a refresher. so i will be contacting HD to see what they say. it isn't causing me any issues yet, but it is in warranty. HD can hopefully sort it when it goes in for its 5000 mile service in a months time

Useless RU-vid. Everybody knows the replacements fog up too. Owned 17 Japanese bikes and drove in all kinds of different climates. Never once experienced fogged gauges. WTF. Obviously the manufacturer doesn’t know what their doing. They should reverse engineer a Japanese gauge.

Notice slight fogging over the digital section on my 2020 Sport Glide when I rode in the morning and the bike sat in the hot sun. Goes away after I ride it. Also very slight fogging when bike sat in my garage after riding through a heavy rain shower. Haven’t talked to my dealer yet. I ride it so much taking it to the dealer hasn’t been a high priority. The fogging hasn’t been enough to block visibility of the information. Will report back here if problem gets worse or if I hear any useful information.

I also had this problem on my new Harley $22,000. that fogged up my speedometer when its humid AND when I simply gas up my tank, the speedo became totally blurred. Harley, this is the only thing riders look at when driving, the road, the remaining fuel & speed from the gauges. I have $2000. Replacing it wont help as they are all the same. It is not seal issue on brand new speedo. Most likely they seal it in high humidity area in factory. Drill 2 tiny 2mm holes in the back of speedo and this will cure the issue. It works takes 15 min literally

Hope I opened a can of "FOG". As noted on another post, this issue has been hanging around for a number of years. I don't understand why the MC dances around this issue. With all the great engineering they have done in the last few years, this should be a non issue. If you see it on your speedo tell your dealer! This needs to be a warranty issue.
