I had a delivery the other day to this dude in LA. He opened the door, and this wave of frozen vapor immediately wafted off his shirt and froze me in place. His large, hot-dog shaped fingers grasped the bag of liquid deaths, and then he started cackling like a maniac. He goes "want a tip lil bro? Buy nvidia" and then he slammed the door in my face. Best delivery I've had all week.

1:14 the fact u dont have a go to meal prepped item for lunch is why u are lil bro status but I'll help u out homie. This is truly goated easy to make in like 45 minutes and u can make it in batches to put in the fridge and have it good to go. Taco Bowl with Street Corn and Seasoned Rice: Primary Items: 2lbs of lean Ground beef 2 12oz Bags of frozen corn 2-3 cups of rice (basmati is the lowest in calorie and can be bought at sams club for like $15 for 5 lbs) Cilantro 2 Limes 4 Roma tomatoes Half a red onion Low fat Mayo Low fat sour cream Garlic (U can buy it fresh and chop it or be lazy and get the minced stuff I personally get the minced cause its cheaper and the flavor is the same) A crumbly white cheese preferably Cotija but parmesan or feta can work Seasonings: Knorrs chicken and tomato bullion Taco seasoning Onion Powder Cajun seasoning (McCormick) Tajin Cook | Rice (start with this because u need to let the rice soak and whilst it is u can get everything else ready) Rinse the rice off and drain it atleast 2 times or until the water runs clear. Add more water in to barely submerge the rice Sprinkle in your Knorrs chicken and tomato bullion whilst stirring until the water changes colors then add in your onion powder and stir that in to Allow this to sit on the stove for 15-20 minutes for the rice to fully absorb all of that flavor and a good bit of water. Add in more water then your garlic and stir that in as well Cook the rice on a high heat and turn it down to a low heat, stir a few times to keep from burning, Cook | Corn Add the corn to a bowl Add the juice of 1 lime Add 3 table spoons of the mayo and sour cream Chop your cilantro and add half of it Add tajin and red chili flakes to ur heat tolerance Add your cheese then mix and transfer to an greased oven safe dish Cook at 400F for bout 10-15 minutes check in on it half way thru to stir it and if you hear the corn popping its ready. Cook | Beef Add the beef to a bowl with your taco seasoning Mix together Cook on the stove Prep | Pico De Gallo (this is your garnish) Chop the roma tomatoes into cubes Dice half the onion, or the whole onion if you get a small one and really like onion Add the juice of one lime Add the other half of your chopped cilantro Sprinkle in some coarse sea salt and mix Put it all together in a meal prep container this recipe makes 7 meals for 1 person and is around 650cals and 40gs of protein. The total cost is roughly like $20 a week for me. Cooking tips Keep your knives sharp cutting veggies like tomatoes is very difficult with dull knives and is more like smashing them than chopping them. Cook the rice when you start cooking the meat turn your oven on when you finish seasoning the rice and if you time it out correctly everything will come out hot and ready at the same time then you can work on your garnish. Use metal mixing bowls that are easily cleaned and reusable to reduce dishes.

One of the fundamental reasons trickle down doesn't work as advertised is because "capital" is not really a limiting factor when considering the productivity of a society. It's just a way to allocate labor and material power. In the simple example presented, if it were profitable to build a second factory (i.e., if the capitalist is incentivized to invest in one), then theoretically they could easily get a loan to build the second factory. They don't necessarily need the capital that was taken from taxes. However, what if they can't get a loan? They would need that capital if (both) they thought building the factory was a good idea and banks or other private investors did not think building the factory was a good idea. This gets at one of the principles of capitalism in general: people with capital have the best idea of how to use that capital for society (or, at the very least, deserve to choose how that capital gets used). This isn't necessarily wrong; IMO, if your objective is to maximize societal productivity (like global GDP), this isn't really a bad idea. And there's definitely good reason to maximize the goods produced; in general, and for much of human history, more productivity has meant higher quality of life. However, societal productivity isn't directly tied to everyone's quality of life. As companies try to squeeze every last dollar out of consumers, you start to reach a point in society like we see right now: people unable to retire, unable to save for retirement, and spending more and more for necessary goods. It *is* a maximization of productivity, since the productive output of workers is, in general, going up if they cannot afford to save or retire. They have to work more. For the working class to see the benefits of societal growth, some force (in the past, either organized labor or the government) needs to step in and check the incentives of the capital-owning class. I wanted to contribute to the discussion because "Let the capitalist build a second factory instead of losing his taxes to the government" seems like a strawman of trickle-down economics (that factory would probably get built with or without taxes); what trickle-down economists really argue is that it's best for society if capitalists have minimal economic power stripped from them by the government (they might advertise that the incentives of capitalists align with the incentives of the working class, although I find it hard to believe anyone watching society the past few decades genuinely believes that).
@idontcare9041
@idontcare9041 3 месяца назад
While I fundamentally disagree with the idea that people with capital have the best idea on how to spend it / deserve to decide, I can't disagree that it is a principle. I believe that it could theoretically work if there was sufficient competition but it just doesn't practically work in reality because of monopolization. There's like a tipping point when enough power consolidated in just a couple companies (or capital owners) and everyone else is f'd sooner or later. I think we reached that point in the 60s or so. I actually think the opposite is the case and the poorer you are the more you suffer from this in one way or another.
@JohnDoe-ev8fk
@JohnDoe-ev8fk 3 месяца назад
@@idontcare9041 I disagree that one of the principles of capitalist is that people with capital have the best idea of how to spend it. Regardless of the morals, from what I've been taught capitalism is just about private ownership and downstream of that is private gains and losses. The gains incentivize people to innovate and the losses make sure bad ideas fail. Key example is Elon buying twitter. Super obvious example of a capital owner losing a significant amount of money because his idea was terrible. Also, to your point of monopolization, I agree that if that level of concentration were achieved, everyone would be f'ed. Actually achieving that is really really difficult though. Currently the top 20% of people control 80% of the wealth and the top 1% control ~27%. That seems extremely scary until you realize that's 60 and 3 million people respectively. To achieve the level of monopolization where few enough people control wealth where no one would break ranks to raise their market cap seems like it will never happen in anyone's lifetime
@greed864
@greed864 3 месяца назад
@@JohnDoe-ev8fkThis. Im a social democrat and some things like street lamps, fire departments, roads, trains etc. Just wouldnt work with a for profit private model (not to even go into everything else the state does like the justice system for arbitration). The thing socialists always bring up is worker co-ops, I saw Ludwig made his company into one. Great for him! And it just shows the freedom within the system, nobody is stopping anybody else from organizing their company like a co-op if they want (and technically the vast majority of small businesses like mom and pop shops are as their workers are also its owners). But why doesn't this corporate structure produce companies able to rival Amazon or Microsoft? Because it's fundamentally inefficient, and even the quality of life gained for the workers isn't enough to poach talent and scale the company. As youve said, all capitalism is, is the freedom for private individuals to own companies, and within this system the results are that the most efficient companies will succeed.
@idontcare9041
@idontcare9041 3 месяца назад
@@JohnDoe-ev8fkMaybe principle is the wrong term but the idea of meritocracy does have a significant influence. Regarding monopolization I think it's already bad enough for it to have significant downsides but you could be right and we'll never achieve that level of consolidation, it's tough for me to make predictions on that.
@JohnDoe-ev8fk
@JohnDoe-ev8fk 3 месяца назад
Oh absolutely on the meritocracy point. That’s just a super likely downstream effect of individual choices bringing wealth. Very sad that people don’t realize that just because someone is a millionaire or billionaire they’re not necessarily good at making decisions all the time. For monopolization though, there could definitely be downsides already from a social perspective. Economically, it still seems like there’s competition around from my point of view

@@valoremvitathis, Reagan was bad but he wasn't THAT bad. He had good environmental policies and through a big stroke of luck for humanity he and Thatcher saved the Ozone layer, he also wasn't terrible on immigration. In any case most people dont know that he didnt have the congress ONCE during his entire presidency! He had the senate for 6 years and lost even that in his last 2 in one of the most purple senatorial years in the history of America. Everything Reagan passed he passed with democrat support, this nation wasn't founded by a dictator to make it a monarchy, it's extremely reductive and wrong to blame Reagan, especially when he won 45 states and had a 9% lead on Carter, blame the American people for choosing him. The neoliberal mindset wasn't popularized by Reagan like populism has with Trump, Reagan didn't fundamentally completely tilt the republican party like for example Trump has, the repubs would've stayed roughly where they were (slightly more left leaning for sure) and neoliberalism would've eventually taken root once more as we saw with Clinton, it just might've taken longer.

I think to touch on the last guy's point, you wouldn't hear someone that doesn't care say they're demotivated or discouraged by the lack of substantial positive change in government. That type of person just wouldn't say anything because they don't care. I care deeply about politics and I feel so much dread surrounding our public offices because in my lifetime things are only getting worse and worse for people like me. It's not that we don't want to hear about real things, it's that the neverending onslaught of evil and greed is so tiring.
@cactus6463

You need to look at everything happening in politics. Stuff is getting better, it just makes boring news so it’s never reported on. Yes, some stuff is getting worse, that is absolutely correct, but that has no effect on all of the other positives. Look at the CHIPS and science act, Biden’s infrastructure bill, or the inflation reduction act and you will be shown some of the successes in congress. At every point in history things have always been “getting worse” yet I would always pick living now rather than fifty years ago when things were supposedly “good”. Places like r/OptimistsUnite are a great way to help with the dread you feel and get perspective on all aspects of life and how they are changing. I understand your dread, we are constantly bombarded with negativity in life. Try to remember that everything isn’t all bad and, in fact most things are getting better.

Problem is even if Reagan wasn't elected, someone else around the same time would have implemented similar policies. The 1970s saw a period of stagflation which was primarily caused by the Oil Crisis. Around the same time, a school of economics from Chicago began to gain prominence within the circles of Western political elites. That school popularized the idea of "Neoliberalism", which argued that the state should minimize its control over the economy as much as possible so that the free market could thrive, untethered by the "unnatural" constraints imposed by the state. Reagan wasn't the first to implement neoliberal policies and dismantle the state's capacity to regulate the economy; Thatcher was. It's around this time (1970-1990) that we see industrialized nations around the world all turn to some form of neoliberal economics. So "Reaganomics" in the US would have emerged regardless, only under a different name.

If you want a cheap easy meal this is my go to. It's a bit like a chili con carne. Get cans of beans. Black, kidney, any beans you want and like. Two cans of each. Can of Chickpeas. Cans of corn. And then cans of tomato. And meant. You want to try and keep it all in a 1:1 ratio. So if you use 400g of meat you need ~400g beans. Start by adding the portion of meat and get that browned tomatoes. Add spices. No wrong answers. Oregano, basil and chili are my go to choices but also garlic powder is good. Do what you like. Then add tomatoes and stir. Then just keep adding beans and chickpeas etc I usually have 400-500 grams of meat so I use 2 cans of each. Then let it simmer. Have a taste and add spices to taste. Done. Then you can store this in tupperware in the fridge and freezer and you'll have a decent meal for cheap when you need it. So heat it up and add rice and maybe cheese on top. If you want to which it up you can just adjust. Add a couple bags of frozen vegetables and remove the beans and you can make it more like a pasta sauce and eat it with pasta instead of rice. This is just one of my go to easy meals I can make a lot of easily, but I recommend everyone learning to make food and not just order all the time.

9:24 Well you’d be happy to know that taxation is not a revenue source for the federal government (state and municipal taxes are a different story). As long as you have currency sovereignty you can never run out of money. high deficits probably don’t cause inflation as long as your country has the productive capacity to do the things the government is paying for (See Japan). That being said, taxes are still good. Not just because they probably lower inflation at least somewhat, and give your currency value (since you need it to pay the tax man), but because it’s a useful tool to stop wealth inequality getting too severe

Trying to build muscle in a calorie deficit is not hard if you aren't skin and bone, you just need to make sure you get extra protein in over what you would have if you're trying to gain weight

Yes! Loved the tax discussion in this one Big A! Glad to hear Keynes's money burying coming through. I wish you would have gone in that direction further in the inflation discussion though. Higher inflation is good for the same reason high taxes are good, assuming wages are inflated as well. The problem with inflation in the US recently is that it is really just corporations reeling in slack and increasing prices without increasing wages. But if prices and wages both increase, then that increases the power of wage earners relative to capital holders. This can be a powerful tool to reduce inequality. Ha-Joon Chang even suggests that much higher inflation in the 10% range may be healthy, so long as wages grow in line with prices and there is a strong support net for retirees

Until i moved in with a woman the last time I ordered food was when i ordered domino's after i finished college in like 2019 Wasnt Until late 2023 because she didn't hold her end and cook something or was too tired 😂 (which isn't a problem) or didn't give me time to prepare something I really rather cook myself then spend what I'd cook to be better and last a week. Vs a shitty burgers and chips for £15

The reason 2% inflation was chosen as the target is because that was how how much the gold supply increased. When we transitioned to fiat currency we maintained that level of inflation as a secret tax on the general populous. It also gives us higher multiples on the effect of money supply.
