The craziest thing about RU-vid to me is that it's completely free to upload as many videos as you want and (so far) they delete none of it and it's stored forever. Even those videos with 3 views that you uploaded in 2009, it's all still there. The amount of storage you get access to for free is insane.

Paramount + has ridiculous ads. You get like 4 2 minute long ad rolls in an episode of Jimmy Neutron and the ads are like 2-3 times the volume of the actual show.

RU-vid TV and RU-vid are 2 completely different services

Northernlion playing balatro for an hour cost no one any money to make and its just as entertaining as a 1 million dollar episode of tv. You cant compete with niche content to millions on millions of people.

Yeah, whenever it comes to Paramount plus. The only thing they really have going is just stuff like old sitcoms or things like young sheldon. And then just star trek which yes has a very loyal fan base "in my opinion the most loyal" but it's also fairly small and some of Paramount's more recent decisions with storytelling have alienated some of those fans and not really drawn in new ones.

Sometimes I forget that Hulu is a seperate thing, because I believe Hulu content is included in Disney+ over here. I was so confused when Atrioc was saying Shogun, The Bear were Hulu etc because I have them on Disney 😂

Just a note on piracy. Piracy nowadays is so easy. That you can make your own Netflix like server in a few hours and never have to worry about it again.

People don't realize pirating is streaming now, you don't have to download anything. I can stream any show I want whenever for free without ads just with ad-block and some websites.

I literally get Hulu for free with Spotify still after like 7 years.

You get Apple TV+ free for a year when someone in family sharing gets a iPhone or macbook or smt. It's practically free.

VPN costs $10 a month. There are really well made sites that mimic streaming Apps showing new releases. No downloading needed, no difficulty, and no restrictions to what I want to watch. Pirating all day until things get better.

The "entire series dump so people can binge" model is honestly the stupidest thing Netflix ever popularized and I cannot believe it took Disney of all people to finally buck that trend. It's so stupid for the most obvious of reasons from every conceivable level. It's stupid from a platform perspective because OBVIOUSLY people are just gonna sub for a month binge and then leave, why would they stay if they already watched the entirety of the show they subbed for and finished it in a weekend? It's stupid from a production standpoint because the show has to spend alllllll this money making four movies worth of content before it'll even start making a single dime and cannot react to fan discussion about it it just has to hope it's all good all at once. And it actually sucks from a consumer perspective, because people just devour all the content all at once and then move on, we have completely lost our ability to discuss a show as a community because there's not that weekly water cooler discussion about the new episode feeling anymore. Now it just becomes this stressful thing where you have to make or find time to watch an entire season all at once, and you feel like you can't discuss it with someone because you don't know if they're caught up or not. Binging ONLY EVER made sense when Netflix's catalogue was OLD SHOWS that everyone had already seen on cable ten years ago, and they could just put it on as a background comfort kind of thing. For original or new shows it NEVER made sense, Netflix is stupid for having done it and everyone else is stupid for following in their example. Disney Plus might have dropped the ball but at least they broke that trend and other services can look at how the mandalorian dominated culture during its time and re-learn the lesson that weekly episode releases is THE definitive way to produce television content.

I read the three body problem books, the show is alright but yeah it feels too westernized, they probably shouldn't have swapped up all the characters. The story also felt a tad rushed.

YT Premium is the only sub we're good with. Family sub we use on all devices and watch on smartTV ad free (not smart enough for adblock it seems) and YT Music on top. We're on it all the time anyway. Streaming services went the way of cable and that's just fucking sad - ain't gonna pay for a billion subs for a couple shows actually worth watching here or there, especially if they pull content we subbed for from existing platforms only to create yet another exclusive proprietary service. Fuck em :3 at least on YT you pay (mostly) for creators and not studio execs and shareholders bottom line.

With how much social media platforms copy features back and forth from one another, you'd think the streaming services would just open up a slot for big RU-vidrs to upload their stuff onto those platforms. Amazon paying for that MrBeast production instead of just giving him an ad-funded slot in their library doesn't make sense to me at all. Sure, not as many people would watch RU-vidrs on other platforms, but it'd be a much more logical way to ease a migration of large audiences to other platforms. Or, IDK. I just wait for a show to finish and then binge it, much more convenient now that shows are only 6-10 episodes spread over 6-10 weeks instead of 23 episodes spread over 40 weeks, I'm not paying 2 - 3 months worth of subs just for one show, maybe if they had 4 or 5 shows on the go at any given time, maybe then the sub price might be worth it but it's always only drip feeding us one freaking show at a time, it's so slooooooooooooow. I mean, is RU-vid really a fair comparison here? I don't know if it's quite in the same category as the rest of the streaming competitors. Sure, they do have movies and TV shows, but it's got to be dwarfed by their content creators which they do nearly have a monopoly on, but aren't really the same as movies & TV. The first episode of 3 body problem has some "woke" moments (extremely cringe moments) that almost made me quit the show and now i know they probably messed stuff up to be "inclusive" and this takes away from the fantasy of the show (and kinda just makes me want to read the books).
