#jetblue is finally coming to Canada, launching routes to link Vancouver and New York starting in 2022. But why Vancouver? We cover 3 main drivers behind the decision - it involves the #northeastalliance with American Airlines, upside of the #YVR - JFK route itself, and jetBlue's own culture of disruption.
I had a lot of fun making this video, despite the time it took. Managed to get some oRgaNic b-roll during my reading week trip to the west coast, and hopefully there's more of that to come. Enjoy :)

Do you think this is a good move for jetBlue?

Absolutely, Jetblue is the best US airline in everything, then Souwest and Aslaska. This means more opportunity to expand and do more 👏

This is an excellent and informative video. Speaking about the “JetBlue effect”, when they started their BUF - LAX route a few years ago, Air Canada actually lowered fares on their YYZ - LAX route at the same time. Interesting, but makes complete sense. Wish them luck on this venture, and hope to see more service into Canada

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the context on the BUF-LAX route. Would love to see jetBlue push the standard higher across the board :)

Cannot wait for this flight. JetBlue is easiest the best economy experience in North America right now - free wifi, good screens, live tv, good service and nice planes.

Glad to hear the mic being put to good use! Another stellar high quality video! Vancouver can thank the Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886 for a large amount of its cruise industry. The act prohibits foreign flagged vessels from transporting passengers between two US ports so most cruises on the west coast have to stop in Vancouver or Mexico.
@TheFlyingMooseCA
@TheFlyingMooseCA 2 года назад
thanks Andrew, appreciate it! Indeed, that Act has definitely helped establish Vancouver as an attractive destination in its own right, beyond just a port of call. Researching for this video showed me just how many people recommended starting/ending in Van to get a few extra days to just enjoy the city :)

Great video. There may be some decent film industry demand for the JFK-YVR route as well on top of all the leisure demand. It’ll be interesting to see how B6 fares on this route.

Thanks Will! That's a good point - the film industry is pretty big for the province. I actually wrote a biiiit about it for an article about BC's helicopter industry: theflyingmoose.net/the-absurd-diversification-of-canadas-helicopters/#utilities - check it out if you're interested Either way, it's better for B6 :)

JetBlue nyc to Vancouver is doing very good that they are going to bring JetBlue mint four the service some time in July this year

American recently announced they were dropping JFK-YYZ and JFK-YUL. I’ve heard people say this might be an opening for jetBlue to pick these routes up and start service to Canada’s two largest cities. 🤞🏻
@TheFlyingMooseCA
@TheFlyingMooseCA 2 года назад
Agreed, US airlines have been dropping routes to Canada in general - very interesting considering the almost parallel expansion to European destinations, and how Canada seems to be an easier market to target. Might be a future video topic >>:)

@@TheFlyingMooseCA It's not that unusual. Canada has never been very profitable for US carriers. It's not a new trend. Canadian airports are very high cost to operate out of and most of the traffic is Canadian point of sale.
@TheFlyingMooseCA
@TheFlyingMooseCA 2 года назад
@@johniii8147 Fair points - even so, the scale of AA's route cancellations seem to reflect more than just typical market conditions. Might be something to do with handing coverage over to B6 or perhaps even Porter if we're speculating
@johniii8147
@johniii8147 2 года назад
@@TheFlyingMooseCA It seems to be a trend of cutting flights from the regional carriers. Almost all the routes cut were flown by regional. You see the same trend at UA. Would indicate they are simply not profitable. It's a general trend in the US market, that if they can't be profitable flying mainline, good chance they will be cut. The regionals are very costly to operate, especially with the rapidly rising pilot wages and the cost of fuel.

@@johniii8147 That's exactly why I'm not sure how well this route will do. Seattle isn't that far, only around a four hour drive, and if you plan on renting a car regardless it makes far more sense to save some money and fly to Seattle.

... you don't mention that jetBlue is changing its fleet to include 100 A220s... perfect for long thin routes like Vancouver NYC. Also...what jetBlue & AA are doing is the same as the Air Canada strategy.... trying to fill trans-Atlantic planes by pulling in PAXs from across the border.

One of the most important things I think you missed was the centering of Canadian competition. Specifically as follows: YUL is AC’s transatlantic baby, and with dozens of flights between YVR and YUL daily, there’s no advantage of flying from YUL to JFK Same can be said for YYZ, only the calculus is much worse since there are international flights to pretty much everywhere from that airport. Worse yet, transborder travel to the northeast is dominated by AC. Westjet has Calgary covered and besides, no one wants to go there anyways. The only free site is Vancouver.

Think Delta could squash them on YVR-JFK nonstop same with BOS. Delta Can connect them anywhere. TLV ATH. DL will just need to increase frequency Cathy is outofthepicture now
@johniii8147
@johniii8147 2 года назад
No that's not how it works in practice. You cannot connect over the US without clearing customs and emigration before your connecting flight on to Europe or Israel unless you are a US citizen ( or any other international destination). There is very little traffic flow going from Canada to international destinations that connect onward in the US. The US doesn't allow non US citizen transit without the full process of clearing Immigration and customs.

@@johniii8147 which is why it's so sad that Vancouver had no middle east airlines for the longest time. The drive to Seattle is far from ideal.
