In this video i discuss why people who suffer from high BP have very variable readings and also why sometimes people with high blood pressure are told that they are dizzy because they have low blood pressure. If you would like to speak with me please contact me on www.yorkcardiology.co.uk or yorkcardiology@gmail.com (which is also my Facebook id)

My doctor never explain BP like this. I have very low BP in the morning heartrate around 120-140. My doctor just gave me betablocker without looking in to why I have this problem, it came from nothing. Very scary. I have to take more betablocker after 5 months. My doctor "It's nothing wrong with you, calm down".

At 84 yrs of age I normally have low blood pressure, and am not on any medication, but I had to visit the Dr. the other day for a very minor procedure and my blood pressure shot up to 224/96. Needless to say the procedure has been postponed and on return home my BP dropped to 123/70. Thank you for your excellent explanation.

I had been having morning blood pressure trend around 144/90 and 136/85 in the evening. At medical offices it would be in the range of 150/90. So, I a adopted an overweight Weimaranner dog and began walking 3 to 6 miles every day, as well as a low carbohydrate diet. After 3 weeks, morning blood pressure 123/74 and evening 116/72. Amazing how quickly and dramatically its gone down. I will be forest walking daily from now on.

I have been having a lot of stress lately and last time when I went to my cardiologist, my bp was sky high. He wants to do an angiogram on me. I got home, talked to my daughter and decided against it. Later in the day, after I had time to rest a little, my bp went back to normal. So emailed my doctor to tell him I'll take a pass on the angiogram for now, and told him my bp is fine now, then I asked him when I should go back to see him again. He said 6 months! So I guess he doesn't think my elevated bp is that serious. My daughter also said I should stop taking my bp one after another because the anxiety would increase my bp. I think I need to learn to relax more.

Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with us. Heart issues are a very traumatic time for most people, it's like telling someone you've got a rattlesnake in your sleeping bag - it's your center of focus all the time. lol. Unfortunately, most medical doctors talk to us on a "clinical" level, i.e. they understand the situation one way and we see it in another - usually in the worst possible light. You talk to us, not at us, and allow us to truly understand what's going on - that's a gift for sure. Keep up your magnificent work, I for one recommend your channel to everyone I know. (HUG) Excellent video, you have such a nice, calm, caring, demeaner. Have BLOOD PRESSURE ANXIETY, 1. how often should you take your BP? 2. what is the best time to take your BP? 3. how many times a day should you take your BP? Your BP relaxer is beautiful, dogs do bring your blood pressure down, they are so gentle and loving. I hate BP monitors, they scare you. You follow all the recommended things diet, exercise, and try to reduce your anxiety, then you take your BP and your anxiety is back again double.

Thank you soooo much! I took your advice and got the 24 hour monitoring done. It really helped to calm me down about my bp fluctuations. I get really stressed whenever my bp is taken, especially at the doctors office. I am 67, not on medication (vegan, vegetarian my whole adult life) and constantly have to debate/fight doctors about trying to medicate me. The averages from the monitoring was nearly normal, but certainly not as high as I had feared. Since my stress during this time of the pandemic and civil unrest is at an all time high, I was prepared for the worst. But as you've indicated in other videos, lifestyle is a huge factor and the number is less important. Having the monitor's results will literally give me some ammunition against the "medicators"! LOL Thanks again!

As a vegan myself, I am reluctant to use medication, preferring to address underlying problems. My blood pressure is normal during the day, but high at night. The average difference being eg 115/65 during the day, and 140/85 during the night. Our best bet, as vegans, or really for anyone, is to work on keeping the blood vessels stretchy. I think it is the nitrate rich greens, as well as other phytonutrients that can help here, and probably exercise too. I prefer a dietary solution where possible. If all else fails, then medicate, in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing I will be 37 in a couple months and I was diagnosed with hypertension about 7 years ago and I struggled with anxiety so much because of it, for example today at the doctors office during my physical my bP reading was 150/110 but then when I got home and relaxed for about 20 minutes my bP reading was 131/80 so I too was wondering where all the different types of readings were coming from, I experienced a episode of paralysis something like a mini stroke 7 years ago due to being dehydrated and excessive alcohol and energy drinks and I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety every since then because of it thanks again for the insight and love to all ❤️

Thank you, this makes a lot of sense. HBP runs in my family and all of my immediate family died between age 39-57 (except my mom), so I've been worried being 58 and having readings ranging from 73/53 to 168/119. I found out that the super low was when I was really dehydrated (needed 3 litres of IV after getting Campylobacter). The ER told me to take my bp and not take one of my pills if it was too low, so it is stressful.

Wow that's such a roller coaster. When mine has been high combined with light headedness I end up in ER and I'm dehydrated. Once I was also low on potassium. The 1st time I was in ER they put me on BP med. Then ended up in ER 2 more times that month. Maybe my body was also adjusting to the medication as well as a new eating plan. I'm really trying not to worry and do the right eating plan and go walking everyday.

@@sonyas7422 - I’ve been on a carnivore diet for 7 months now. It has helped a lot. I’m taking magnesium and potassium too. I’m not having extreme lows anymore. It will get high, but I take some supplements and it goes down. Best of luck. Try to stay away from big pharma. Those pills cause so many extra problems. Like kidney and liver failure. ❤️❤️❤️

I think this is one of your best examples of blood pr, stretchy vessels, brilliant. Had stent put in last week, bmi 25.6. even in opticians i asked them to check back of eyes which were ok, but last week had heart attack troponin enzyme read 500. Home now, this is a brilliant video ( as usual 🙂) age 57, male , non smoker, bmi 25, already in one week I've that down to 24, looking at diet , never used deep fat fryer, except treat out for fish n chip. But ,loved "quality food" real milk, marbled steak , thought i could eat anything, so now looking at everything going into mouth, new flax seed n rolled nuts n seed or what won't go in sugars trans n sat fats n sugars, loved breads!! but this is brilliant video, stretchy vessels.. this is where Nobel prize lies. Anti inflammatoried like tumeric, green tea ?? Large amount of water?? I've switched butter😥 for olive oil extra virgin and fee drops of balsamic vinegar. Home made biscuits?? I walked minimum 6km with dog after work under 10min/ km, not allowed to walk only around house for this week n next , realise how much i loved walking. But i think i should have kept up my jogging on an undulating little hills circuit of only 2.5 km , that I can't wait to get back after year off it often because Achilles would cripple me. Famous Achilles heel for my heart attack!! This is my plan as I can't understand this week how people live overweight, sedentary lifestyles. It will be interesting... Need to grow my own lettuce, too much chloride, chlorine used in shop ones. Loved coffee n tea, (5cups/day) allowing one cup of coffee and other 4 replacing with green tea! I think the moderately vigorous run is priority when given all clear. It will be interesting as I've been told to reduce LDL to 1.4 from 2.4 Great videos Dr Sanjay Gupta, much appreciated!!

My BP has been high for decades and no amount of different meds (that I can tolerate) has made a difference. So frustrating and worrisome. Sometimes when I take it, it is sky high. I wait 5 min and take again and most times is usually a lower reading. I always wondered why and worried about it. Thanks for bringing understanding on how the body works. I lost wt. cut out salt, sugar and high carbs. Still no change. Dr and I are at a loss what to do. Saw your video on magnesium taurate so will give that a go as well as green tea and beet juice. I greatly appreciate your videos, I have learned a lot and have had a lot of anxiety reduced because of them. Bless you for your caring of people. Oh, and what a precious doggie!

Good explanation and especially loved the puppy at the end. My doctor took 4 readings over 2 visits 2 weeks apart and immediately wanted me to start medication, even though my at home readings every day for months were lower (not perfect but lower). She didn't offer a 24 hour monitor or mention any natural way to fix this. She said my machine at home must be broken. I think my recent rise in blood pressure is from back pain from a fall 4 months ago and the continual pain it has caused, but she disregarded that. My back is getting better now and I'll start taking readings in town on other machines. We'll see what happens. I took medication for many years, but I've recently lost a 100 lbs and I don't want to start taking medication again ;)

And CONGRATS on losing 100 lbs! Yes, the back injury could indeed have influenced your BP. Check out MCAS, mast cell activation syndrome. Don't know what other issues you have, but it can develop after any kind of trauma, and it does indeed affect BP. There's a current free webinar on it right now thru Health Means. It has literally changed my life!

Hi thank you for taking the time to explain this frightening condition. So kind of you. I suffer from that lately and just the other day It happened to me, not the first time. It can happen when I think I am perfectly fine. I started taking Atenolol twenty years ago, 25 Mg. Now I am taking 50 mg twice a day. A couple of times recently when I am not feeling very nervous but feel this strange pounding in my ears it alerts me that BP is going up. A couple of weeks ago I started feeling the pounding and took my BP and it was 177/83. P.68. Ears really started pounding and took BP again. This time it was 113/ 59. I took it again after trying breathing exercises and it was 225/106. I called my doctor and they suggested taking some amlodipine which I had some around the house. It took awhile but my B/P slowly went down. I continued with the Amlodipine for a few days at a low dose as this medication tends to make my heart skip and right ankle swell. Normally I do not have swollen ankles. The Amlodipine brings my B/P down great on a very low dose but it really gives me major skips. The reason I am writing to you is that no one seems to have a answer for this. I am thin and active and watch my diet. I am always stressed and highly nervous. Do you kindly have any suggestions to what I should do as I have to have a Cataract operation and I know my B/P will go sky high. Sorry this is so long and thank you for taking your time to read this. I so appricate it.

I have an excellent Cardiologist, but of course he doesn't have time and maybe your gifted communication skills, to describe the ins and outs of blood pressure. I'm focusing on my health starting last week, as lifestyle improvements do make a difference for me. Now for the will to do it every day, even if I'm not perfect at first. Your guidance is supporting me on this journey, along with an osteoporosis nutritionist (whose program is the DASH diet and non-acidic ph balance, exercise, stress reduction, minerals, etc). Now I'm in one of those periods where my BP goes from hypertensive to hypertonic in the same day, and I get worried when this happens, just as you described. LIttle tear of relief when you described it and gave perspective. One less stressor🙂

The other consideration is that some people are not just anxious but TERRIFIED at getting bp in a medical setting. Some person I don't know treating me like a piece of meat slapping a cuff on my arm is the anxiety equivalent of spotting a lion in the grass on the Serengeti. Hard to tell how much is "hot water bottle" and how much is the complete insensitivity and often incompetence of the medical-industrial complex (most of whom don't follow ANY of the basic protocols, i.e. no talking for five minutes, no dangling feet, warm room, not over cloth, etc. etc.). Especially if bp is extremely consistent at home when I have control of the situation. You are absolutely right about medication being "not dynamic." When my readings are averaging below 110/75 on the lowest dose of an ARB and channel blocker, I think I'm overmedicated (especially when it causes hypotension and one fainting incident). So where's the happy medium? P.S. Those ambulatory things are more frightening than in insensitive med personnel. NOT an option for those with a phobia.
