Instant subscription Watching NMS go from bare bones nothing to one of the biggest sci fi games out there to date was like watching a kid growing up. Seeing NMS Next update get teased was absolutely awesome and to be honest i really do kinda miss the early first person days of the game (playing the very first iteration on Christmas Day was a blast aha) but im glad its come so far, better late than never i suppose. As someone who played this game on and off ever since it first came out, i really gotta get back into it and give it another good go. I hope Starfield can evolve like this because i love sci fi to death and there’s nothing i hate more than wasted potential. No signs of slowing down, so proud of Hello Games. Brilliant video 💙

It’s a fantastic game, but it’s so much MORE than a survival game. Survival is only a minor element to it. I actually think survival game fans who speak negatively about it might actually be a little jealous that it has good survival elements but also does SO MUCH MORE. A lot of survival games are very “small”. NMS is expansive and huge.
@Smorgasvord

Why on earth would a survival fan hate NMS is it has survival elements plus a bunch of other stuff? If anything it'll be one of the games that they love. And why be "jealous" if they can just buy the game themselves? The point you just made was very stupid.

On point. Loved the video. Played NMS in 2020 years after hearing about the launch and was amazed at what it has become. This is the space game I have always wanted to play while it had been under the radar (for me) since all the amazing updates in 2018. This is pure space and planetary exploration. While the emphasis may be on survival I find the most relaxing, chilled environments in gaming, ever. So with this I prefer to play in Creative as I get to build and explore to my heart's content. Kudos to Hello Games for sticking with it.

NMS is definitely one of the more accessible survival game out there because of how much customizable how you want it to be. And probably the best thing about this game is because of how many gameplay mechanics it has, you can swing between different genres of gameplay you want. This is the reason why sometimes I call it space Minecraft whenever some people ask me about the game.

Well, since you appear to have "survival game" expertise and passion. Perhaps you could do videos on things like... 1) What specifically distinguishes a "good survival game" from a "bad survival game"? (mechanics, scenarios, gameplay loops, stages of progress, feelings of achievement, game world interactions etc). Where exactly are the lines where the attempt to inject realism into this genre can become tedious rather than engaging for players? Once you have achieved a certain amount of progress (crops for constant incoming food and resources etc) does a survival game cease to be a survival game? And what new survival elements could be injected into these late game stages to re-establish the same kind of survival elements rather than just having to continually start over from scratch to re-experience them again? 2) Why do so many fans of this genre believe that "true survival games" have to be set in primitive survival scenarios and can't be set in sci-fi scenarios? (you touched on this topic in this very video). Where did this perspective originally come from? What other types of potential genres are potentially being underutilised within the typical survival game landscape in your opinion? 3) Where do you think survival games can go in the future to reinject interest beyond just "improve graphics" and "bigger worlds"? Where do you believe that the next stages of evolution of survival games will be (or should be) headed into the future? 4) What games that are not actually designed to be "survival games" can either have their settings altered to become survival games or can be achieved via by self-imposed non-use of specific game mechanics. You can also do a separate video on games which have had specific mods created to turn them into survival games (I know that Skyrim had a number of these for example). Just don't forget to mention if these mods are PC only or also available on consoles. 5) Or how about "A Soft Guide into Survival Games for people that never found their groove"? A basic rundown of positives and what to expect once they have gotten passed the initial time consuming and frustrating first hump at the early stages of survival games. Just for people who have never gotten into the survival genre because it was too frustrating for them early on and they gave up before ever seeing what was on offer. Why they might want to give it a chance and why you think they should (and some softer introduction game recommendations to try that has the necessary introductory elements, but without the steep learning curve). 6) What are your personal "faves of all time" within the survival game genre? The "best of the best" and why in your own personal opinion? You can also do a personal "must play at least once" survival game list video or section. 7) Another good idea could be to do something like "My Love Letter to Survival Games". Just a video purely explaining why you personally feel in love with the survival genre. How you started on the path and why specifically it grabbed you and wouldn't let go. The early games you played, the path you took to get from "there to here". The new innovations entering the genre currently that you are excited about and what you are looking forward to in the future. Why you love the survival gaming community. Viewers generally enjoy people talking about their passion in a purely positive light and seeing someone showing their love for it. These videos are usually quite popular. --- As a counterpoint you could also make a video about some of the things you dislike about the survival genre, bad habits that have snuck in as modern standards, over-simplifications of old mechanics (or over-complications of old mechanics), bad exploits and bad behaviours that exist within some places of the online survival community. The "unspoken rules" that some gamers choose not to follow to the detriment of new gamers "survival noobs" joining the community or the overall community as a whole. These kinds of videos also seem to often do well. --- Oh, and how about a video that tries to explain to people exactly why someone might pour hundreds if not thousands of hours into a single survival game. What exactly motivates someone to do that? What specifically drives them forwards day after day to spend that much time in these worlds? What the game itself and the community as a whole does to continually incentivise them to want to keep going even after all that time and still love it. This could potentially be interesting for some people to learn about. 8) Once you have slightly increased your subscriptions... doing "polls" can be both engaging to your viewers and also help you generate content specifically tailored to what your subscribers want to see from you. Making at least some of your content video ideas easier to generate. That is of course if you only want to focus on survival game content (which initially probably is a good idea, since you obviously have good knowledge and far more importantly personal passion about this game genre... which is something viewers are going to feel while watching your videos and will inevitably result in and increase of your views and subscriptions). Like for example, I'm not overly a "survival game" guy. I'm not opposed to it in any way and do play them, but I don't intentionally go out of my way to seek them out. But I still thought your video was great because I could tell that you were passionate about it (plus the take of a game I've played, but from a survival perspective was different for me). Even "survival amateurs" like me can tell that you care about the things you are talking about without you being pretentious about it. This aspect of you is currently is your greatest asset to the growth of your channel. People can feel this stuff though your videos. So definitely don't lose it. However, you will obviously also need to eventually diversify to other things in the long-term future as well to maintain and increase interest in your content (ie. different aspects of gaming that you are also passionate about). Depending on what those passions are, I should be able to give you further suggestions if you think it might be useful to you. But honestly, you are off to a good start in my opinion. You have a good video presence that comes across as authentic feeling (rather than a "persona" you are roleplaying for increased views, which is far too common on You-tube). Regarding editing, I have no advice as this video looked pretty good to me. If you are still in the early stages of playing around with it, then just keep doing what you are doing. You obviously have good natural instincts regarding editing so it will likely just evolve as you get more and more experience with it. So I don't think you need any advice. You're honestly doing pretty damn good.

@@WaveBoogieYT Honestly, no problem at all. After seeing the quality of this video I was genuinely surprised at how few views and subscribers you had despite being a relatively new channel. You-tube must make it quite difficult to establish a foothold for new channels obviously, because your channel definitely deserves more than you've got clearly. But I'm confident that if you break through that invisible barrier and more people finally see what you have to offer you'll be fine. I have 2400+ hours in No Man's Sky. I guess one might say I love it. It really is not a survival game. There are some survival aspects to it, especially early in the game when all your gear is busted and wimpy. But after making repairs and getting a few upgrades to your gear the game gets easier. So most of the hardcore survival happens within the first 3-5 hours of a new game. The survival aspect does not ever completely stop - you must manage your life support, shields, environmental protections, different types of ship fuel, etc., for the duration of the game. For example, last month (after 2400+ hours) I forgot to charge life support and took critical core damage. I had to immediately stop what I was doing and run back to my ship very quickly so the ship could support me. Then, to heal the damage, I chose to eat meat. So I got out of the ship and shot a "flying pig-cow", and ate the steaks from it. Yum! No Man's Sky is a very enjoyable game for a wide variety of people. It is an open-ended game and I think a lot of people may not understand that and be put off by it. If you like to make your own adventures and sometime play with others, then you will probably enjoy the heck out of No Man's Sky. Hope this helps! -John PS It's not a combat game either, although there is some combat in it.

yeah idk why people think you need food in a game to make it a survival game... in NMS you get buffs from planets with extreme weather I've found out (like your laser won't overheat as much on planets with winter/cold weather storms, for example), so buffs from food is 100% unnecessary. I think you covered everything else in your video that would name NMS a survival game. also people tend to forget that "space survival" is it's own game genre, and I have yet to see a space survival game actually make you use "food". I would call NMS space survival and exploration. I've played straight up survival games that always stick us in the woods for some reason... LOL some of them are alright but kind of annoying when you have to rely on food to make your character perform at "normal" stats...
@nicked_fenyx
@nicked_fenyx 10 месяцев назад
Great video. I think a lot of people who say NMS isn't a survival game have never tried it on the hardest settings. If you look up videos of "Iron Man" runs, for example, they can be tough. You crank up every setting to max difficulty, enable permadeath, lock those settings (so you can't change them later), and then force yourself to completely ignore your starter ship - not even using it for shelter. The first time I tried an Iron Man run, with over 1,000 hours of NMS gameplay in "normal" mode under my belt, I died in less than five minutes. My second run went better, but that's because I hyperfocused on *survival* every minute of that run. The coolest thing about NMS is that it can be whatever you want it to be in terms of difficulty. From the experience I just described at one end of the spectrum to the coziest experience ever (damage turned off, infinite free resources for building, abundant resources everywhere else, etc), this game suits whatever mood I'm in. That's why I've stuck with it since the day it launched. Prior to that I might have scoffed at the notion of a "forever game." Now I have one, and I couldn't be happier.

@luishenriques6364
@luishenriques6364 Год назад
In my opinion NMS is not a survival game because you can get all the survival resources easily. You don't need workshops to craft anything either. You can simply craft whatever you want from you character's inventory. You also don't need any structures to gather resources. You can use them, sure. But you don't need them. So there's no real reason to create a base. Creating a base (or multiple bases) and being limited on what you can craft when outside of it (aka preparation) are core survival mechanics which NMS does not have.

I personally think the gameplay settings maneuverability with multiplayer in mind ruins a big part of the game. It completely breaks the immersion of unlocking anything really…

As a survival fan myself i gotta disagree with u there buddy...sure u gotta watch out for cold/heat/radiation etc but the stuff u need to recharge those is easily accessible in large quantities.u dont need to eat,drink or sleep and dying is something that only happens to noobish players going up against sentinels for the 1st time.cant really call it a survival game if surviving is made as easy as a gunreload😃

Honestly, it's not really a survival game. It has aspects of a survival game but it's more of a space sandbox and exploration game. At least that's how I'd put it in short.

Have you tried it on permadeath with every difficulty slider cranked to max? That's definitely a more survival oriented experience. Limited inventory, can't buy survival essentials in shops, resources are scarcer, definitely more planning involved.

NMS is a survival game if you set it up that way. As the previous commenter said, maxing out all settings and enabling permadeath provides a very different gameplay experience than what you get in normal mode, which itself is quite different than creative mode. You can customize the settings to fall anywhere between those modes, as well. Personally, I tend to rotate between two saves. One for normal gameplay (which is quite relaxing now that I've upgraded all my gear), and one for "Iron Man" runs. The latter can be quite intense, and definitely qualifies as a survival game imo. The former, not so much. But that's what's great about NMS. It offers enough variety in gameplay types to match whatever mood I'm in. No other game I've found does that better than NMS.

It's just too easy tbh. Once you get past the first planet its entirely player error if you struggle for resources. Not really a criticism, just an observation.

@@WaveBoogieYT I've been playing on survival, I don't want to mess with anything in the chance I'll miss out on the trophies or achievements

NMS is really only a survival game in the start. Once you have completed the build base mission, the survival aspect is kinda gone.
