Why is Ranked Bad? 

At this point we might aswell make Aussie CEO of Fortnite 😂

If they keep this, this will be such a good change for fortnite and actually give me motivation to play ranked.

I'm so glad that they made the loot pool change, and I REALLY hope it stays! Here are a few changes I'd love to see - a top rank that's reserved for the top "x" number of players (top 500 or so) and a rank below that for top 2000 or so players. This would encourage people to reach a high rank and keep grinding to STAY there, for bragging rights at least. - Cash cups' qualification being locked to elite or higher. I hardly play Zero Build, but even in ZB's ranked system, I place gold or higher from my unranked match. (I usually place gold or platinum in builds). - A rework of ranked rewards. There should be a tournament (like the current ranked cups that let you earn an umbrella) where you can EARN the ranked skin for 100-150 points. Then, the current ranked umbrella could be unlocked by winning IN RANKED. Each win you get unlocks your current rank's style for the umbrella (and the lower ranks). So, a win in platinum would give you the platinum style as well as all styles below plat, and a win in unreal would give all the styles, etc. People would care about the ranked tournaments as much as they care about other skin cups, and winning in ranked would at least grant some reward that makes sense.

You could die off spawn 10 games in a row in like a Diamond Lobby and gain all the percentage back with a 6 kill win in Dous or something. It’s too easy, when you earlier were in Champs in Arena only the demons were in Champions League and mostly everyone you fought had a bit of Competetive experience in Cups etc. (most of the time), but now, when you look up stats from players of the lobby 10 of those 100 players even have any events played.

I think epic should take the apex route and make unreal a top # of players on each region. I feel like the games would be more stacked

I agree with some of your points but except queue time. At the start of ranked mode there was an issues with "longer queuet time" which everyone hated.

Zero build is even worse for matchmaking, in champ and unreal lobbies I got contested by the same kids 6 games in a row

Good video Aussie, However, most of us would still prefer Arena over ranked, not because of the nostalgic purposes of what occurred during lockdown, but because of the Arena game mode itself. The reason why is because Arena was not only more original and conveyed a more competitive quality to the game, that being how its point system was set up. The point system was the method to track one's individual progress at the game in a more consistent manner, tallying points towards multiple different aspects of the game, and different playstyles. Arena was set up like a tournament to reward players for different things such as placement and eliminations. This method was perfect because despite it having vague thresholds for the top players in a match, or in Champions League, it still ensured that there was still competitive gameplay in the upper ranks among the more skilled players. Ranked is almost as good, but will never reach the perfection that arena had established. What I mean to say is that Ranked does not convey towards all gameplay styles/ and players such as mid-tier people who aren't super good, but good enough to hold their own for a couple minutes in a match but would then eventually die. These people could grind as much as they want, but because of the inconsistent nature of the Ranked mode calculations, grinding in ranked eventually tiring because even though they could play 20 matches and get in the same placement 20 times, the ranked mode in going to calculate a bunch of other things, especially even if it doesn't relate to how the player played at all , tally it up and give them a random percentage. My point being that ranked is far more inconsistent than arena. Also because of that inconsistency, you will then have to deal with extremely skilled players going up against people like me, who should be in platinum, but instead is in diamond 1 going against people that are in champion rank. I think overall, I much rather grind and play to see how many arena points I can get and just a key in there than play a pointless ranked mode like we have now, I agree with like all these takes, but overall I like arena more yes because of the game/siphon/lootpool but it was also just better than current ranked in my opinion

ranked/performance-based rewards, even if small, are such an important thing that lots of companies are throwing away nowadays. my guess is because it typically only gets granted to the highest ranked few players/the best rewards are reserved for them, but this is part of why its such a good system. Things like the old challenger jacket/backpack in league, gun charms for your rank in valorant (could be better in this case but whatever), and the Rank S or FPL qualification/prizing in CS, are all things that generated huge amounts of hype and made people excited and incentivized to grind, and more importantly CONTINUE to grind the respective games. even if the best stuff only goes to the top of the playerbase it gives newer/worse players something to grind for apart from just skill (and gives the pros/high ranked players content which feeds back into the game). it is also just such a simple/easy thing to do depending on how they want to go about it. also another thing// people would not care about long queues even at like the 10 minute level if they were just allowed to play creative while in queue. super easy fix and keeps people on the game.

I like the system of ranked more. Instead of “I have 7.400 hype” you can say “I’m champs” which is so much better

I feel like something like Overwatchs top 500 is pretty cool. U grind for that placement and if u dont play enough u will get placed out of it. Maybe make unreal have a fixed amount of players per region. So if u dont play enough u get out of unreal.

They could make unreal harder to get to and different tiers of it. Maybe if you get the highest tier you auto qual to some cash cups or something

Firstly, I would like to say that this change is amazing. However, back in the days, I remember people wanted arena to have the comp loot, but then people started to complain bout it cus "it was not fun." So idk if it is good or not for the game

In terms of rewards they could just give vbucks based on your rank, like all elite players get 50, champion get 150, unreal get 250 and top 1000 get 500. Then like a large reward for top 10,5,3,2,1 like $50 for top 10, $100 for top 5, $250 for top 3, $500 for top 2 and $1000 for top 1, This would be $2300 total which isnt much for a multi billion dollar company, and they could do more for top 100, 500, 1000 etc. This would give them a reason to play.

This is by far the most relatable video ive ever seen. Im d1 and I don't have good wifi and im 60 fps. Im a console player. But I can literally be playing ranked and they're AI's and than I run into literal bugha and get boxed faster than it renders on my screen. I don't even stand a chance and that's why I think they're should be a fix where you hog up against people your skill level so you can try and improve and get better. I agree with everything u said

-Syphon -Split loot pools (maybe even have weapons in ranked that arent in pubs, if necessary) -Good rank system thats also more transparent (+being able to derank) It's that simple. If we had those 3 things it would already make for a pretty decent if not very good gamemode.

U should also be able to see your ranked percentage in game and se if your losing or gaining

as someone with no nostalgia bias, i honestly did like arena more, to me it felt more like a tournament and maybe it was because it was points rather than percentage and that you could see those points in each game, but there was something about it that made it feel better to me, it felt more fun because i KNEW i was playing competitive and not just pubs with percents thrown out there

genuinely I think the biggest 4 fixes we could make that would make rank "More proper" of a competitive game mode are: 1. Bring back siphon aussie already went over this in the video so I won't go into depth with this one 2. make there be more ranks OR make the ranks fight players that can only be in their ranks or if they perform well enough on the ranks above them lobbies this provides a more competitive lobby and makes it easier to find players along the same skill level as yourself 3. do not reset the ranks each season this goes along with number 2 on this list because if you have more ranks and don't reset them each season it means people can both keep playing at a high level rather then facing little timmy's who are scared to play ranked the first day of the season just to rank up every 3 months 4. in one of reisshubs older video he brought this up and I decided to tweak it a little in each rank rather than there being a system where its just % I believe for any rank past diamond 3 there should be a leaderboard and within this leaderboard the way you can rank up is by passing a specific player(s) rank and if you just don't play ranked at all you will drop back down to diamond 3 and need to rank back up into elite and the higher ranks this provides that players are more likely to keep grinding so they don't lose their high rank

You are 100% right, and I cant think a reason why they are not doing all of that than being stubborn or lack of understanding in deveploment. I get the cars and super mythics since I watch my sisters son play the game (7yo), he enjoys so much the fun stuff and i can bare with it couple games. As a competitive person, items and abilities which does not need any skill to kill a better player frustrates and even if im "eliminating" it is not rewarding nor fun in the end of the day. There could be so many excellent different routes for comp and I believe 99% of complayers agree with you. I can gurantee there can tbe stacked ranked games with the right changes and rewards. As you said make it actually difficult so when you are a spesific rank people generally know "okay this guy must be ok or him or decent etc" sweaty skin or pickaxe with ranked variants would do it with better point system alone. Then the tournament access rank has be kinda high which is actually difficult to reach (for money tournaments) and in ranked you must verse only same rank players. The backlash from dying on spawn should be punishing enough and adding up to be extremely punishing for many in a row. Kill should not be even near as rewarding as placement in ranking up. Stragetic refresesh and siphon would make people only take smart fights or only when neccessary. I think chest rng should be 100% in ranked and tournaments to lower the rng (there is still rng of what you get from the chest and many even prefer floor loot rather than chest of the loot pool is full of un nessecssry garbage) it should actually be more based on your landing skills via position.. Anyway I wish the best, fortnite could be one of the best competitive esport games via the unique opportunity of one embracing the skill of individual creativity in the game, due fortnite's complexity. That is also why it is so addicting, fun to watch, you feel extremly rewarding by outplaying an oppenent since it feels you did it by your great and creative thinking in a fast phase moment.

Splitting the item pools is great. I like the options now, switching between pubs, ranked, reload, and even rumble. The ranked pool still needs work, id like to see at least some cars like previous seasons, but none of the mods or boss ones. Also, fists are still there as of yesterday, and it's good to have an alternative to shocks, but we need a different more balanced mobility option. I personally like the grapple hook.

i miss endgames in arena i remember getting 15-25 people half n half but ranked there is 5 people left in 4th zone

Idea- Make a ranked cup where you get 5x the rank when you win but lose 3x the points when you lose, so people won’t want to lose points but will play to get points. Similar to when we had hype cups.

When I Player on Ps4 in Season 8 you needed 300 Points for champ devision and If you where champ devision you could Play in the world Cup qualifiers and even tho I was Not the best and I didnt reach Champ devision (290+ Points) I Had so much fun With my friend Back then we Played Arena a Lot and IT was so much fun because people Had to Grind to get to Champ and there where actually 20 Player movings Sometimes in ranked because people Had Something to Grind for I Played every Season since then and in my opinion this was the best state the Arena/ranked Made was ever at

They should make a cap on the amount of people that can be in each rank past diamond. That way if you are the lowest ranked in unreal you can get replaced.

yesterday i was playing ranked and had 13 kills and my duo realized that ftk rapid was in our game 5 minutes later he absolutely destroyed us

When there was arena a reward was to be able to play tournaments, for an average player it was a challenge to get into champ, now it' so easy even for a bad player to get the requirements for FNCS

I have an idea for rewards, this could only work for one time but let’s say you hit elite, the pickaxe could be like greyish and the top of it is the elite logo. That would be nice.

The way to fix ranked play is to require players to reach Unreal rank and achieve at least 150 kills in total ranked games to make it competitive. If players can earn a skin just by reaching Unreal, they might camp and play for placement. However, if you also require 150 kills, players will actually try their best and play competitively. (Edit) And the more kills you get the more edit styles you unlock.

I also think they should bring fills back, for example when your with your friend and want to do trios with a random to mix it up it was funner like that.

-Separate loot pool -Better scoring system -Ranked cosmetics -Siphon Ranked will be way better and all of those are extremely easy for Epic to add. Scoring can just be as clear as arena points were but the points simply unlock the current ranks. We see our points, enemies see our rank.

Main prob with ranked is most people in elite lobbies just camped there way there and run

They should have tourneys like FNCS where only unreal players can play. Or really just some sort of tournaments where the only way you can qualify is by being in the top 5000 or something in ranked for your region, and really heavily penalize dying early in games.

I think the Ranked change is really good and i hope Epic stay this way and listen to the community. Its making me come back to Fortnite and the Competitive Scene.

What if they kinda of combined the ranks with the point systems in stead of percentages I want to know if this is a good take

Regarding the matchmaking of different skill levels and having T1 pros in the same lobby as AIs, I think the best solution to this would be elo. If you’re top 1000 unreal you should verse people in that range, not champion players. The difference between a top 100 or 1k player and a 100k+ is massive. I don’t know how they’re gonna work around the queue times with that though. Best of luck.

As an na east player I basically have negative cue times and would much rather have them be a little longer to get more balanced games

I’ve been playing so much fn the last few seasons and all I’ve really cared about was comp. But after barely missing out on qualling to fncs semis and hearing the next fncs wasn’t until January, I stopped playing. I’ve started playing a lot more val and I’ve actually been having fun compared to the mental pain from playing Fortnite ranked this season. These changes sound great but I honestly feel like I’ve moved on from fortnite. This season has really put me off the game and I don’t have an fncs to grind for either.

Personally the main problem with ranked is that it's way to casual, I feel like the new ranked updated is a good step in the right path. But they also make it so that If u hit gold and then Platnuim you will still have the gold reward plus the platinum, Bronze silver etc.

Ranked this season was horrendous cars are simply uncompetitive and adding to an already uncompetitive game mode it just felt bad. I’m glad they made that change

That was also one of the good things about arena is that you deranked if you went below points but I agree ranked needs to be changed especially with the sbmm

I really just only care about having something in game that shows your rank. like what arena had. something that you can watch change and go up and down during the game depending on how you perform. it would be so good for content/streaming

The rank thresholds should also go up as the season progresses and more people reach the higher ranks. This way people would have to keep actually playing the game to maintain their rank and ability to play tournaments and such.
