He didn't decide to keep the ball... He was sleeping with a straw hat covering his face when the ball was hit, it busted through his hat hitting him in the head and the ball was never recovered. Redsox are still trying to recover the ball. Someone grabbed it and never said anything
No one ever will. The renovations to Fenway have made it almost impossible. When Ted did it the grandstands behind home plate were lower and there was an abnormally strong wind blowing out to RF that day that would never have the same effect now with the current stadiums construction.
@@CatWith-AHat I don’t think so man. Ortiz said he tried to do it with a metal bat during BP and still couldn’t get it there. That thing got blown by the wind so hard I don’t think anyone will ever duplicate or beat it.
@@miigon9117 maybe they even rotate it in between the seats they might have saved in storage for the illusion of the memory. But suede content creators are like mass produce chine products, not all of them have to work properly they just have to get the traffic.
I was in the stands (somewhat up behind 1st base dugout) at Fenway with my dad on the day Ted Williams retired (Sept 1960). Being the ever sportsman that he was in the off season, Ted was presented (at an infield ceremony) with very high end fly fishing rods and shotguns (and probably a $100k a year 20 year SEARS sponsorship). This was also the day his replacement Carl Yazstremski took over Left Field.
cuz perfect loops are dumb anyway. All you do is string a sentence from the end to the start, and then immediately have some kind of cut where the loop could’ve been anyway. It’s cool but overused
Wille Stargell's star at veterans stadium ( demolished) 500 plus feet. The spot that it it was approx 455-460 linear feet from the plate. The 600 section was so high up that the ball would have continued to travel even farther. The projected distance on that particular homer is just over 500 feet. Stargell hit several homers farther than that in the 520-525 foot range
Camden Yards has an orange seat representing where Eddie Murray hit career HR number 500! Up until this season there was another orange seat in Left-Center to honor Cal Ripken where his HR surpassed Ernie Banks as a Shortstop. It was taken out when the Orioles expanded the Outfield in Left and Left-Center.
Fun fact: the same red seat can be found in the game Fallout 4, which takes place in a post apocalyptic Boston. If you enter the stadium (which is now being used as a settlement) and look carefully into the stands, you can find the red seat.
And... Ted was a San Diego guy! Was a rookie with hometown San Diego Padres in Pacific Coast League, 1936 😁! Years later he would talk hitting with Tony Gwynn! Go Pads!!
That’s ironic because Ted Williams is my great cousin 😂 didn’t get the chance to meet him but my grandmother met him a bunch. Wish I had the pleasure to meet him.
It’s crazy that he’s my cousin from my dads side they said he didn’t really talk to family a lot because he thought everyone would ask for money but my grandparents got to go visit with him a few times I need to dig through the family pictures again I love hearing about him!
That's vary cool I live in Ted's old house and when moving in and cleaning I found a stack of old topps cards of his he autographed. I have no idea why he would sign them unless they were gifts for kids that's all I can come up with but I had them authenticated and teddy ball game signed all of them and down the road it's all houses now but it was a ball field that Ted would play with all the local kids! How cool would that be also found tons of personal photos!
Mickey Mantle hit one an estimate 734 ft at Yankee stadium before the technology was available for an exact determination. They used tape measures after the game and measured from home plate to straight away thru exits to outside the ballpark where the ball landed on the first bounce. Ruth’s longest was 574 ft at the stadium.
I thought that was the landing spot where Ted Williams last ever HR, in his last at bat landed there - as many marked by the red seat. I saw from the field, as I took the Fenway Field stadium tour.
That’s pretty cool, I’ve seen in movies where sports guys who had a set of four or five ballpark seats they have one seat red. That’s pretty cool to know why now.
I’m a Sox fan and have known about the seat for a long time. That being said, the seat used to be painted red but now that I see this video it looks like they just used a red seat from the home plate area of the ballpark.
