So relatable. When I play agains golds or silvers or people same level as me I call it a “chill” match but when it is people that are higher level than me I call it a “test” match to see how well I do against pros and what I need to fix.

But you do play better vs better opponents tho, it’s called the advantage of being in a disadvantage. Being in a disadvantage will put ur mind in a more serious stage where you know 1 mistake can cause death. This doesn’t work 100% ofc but it does make you play better

you know I hate passiveness because I cannot imagine how 2 people with the same playstyle can get to fight each other, like how do people who float around you until they can hit a sair with hammer enjoy playing against eachother? I'm a high plat and i don't really get many golds anymore but when i did i just couldn't understand why they played like they were on crack. there dodges were never consistent, there combos were pretty uniform and they never had one single playstyle witch threw me off every time since i rely on reading there movements and punishing there dumb asses everytime they woke up or did the wrong move at the wrong time. i can say that gold is ranked hell, constantly stuck, feels like your getting players who are plats and diamonds just to spite you but when u get out of gold ranked feels a lot more comfortable and enjoyable if you have the skill to fight plats and diamonds and win then you will enjoy ranked. the grind is prolly the best part of ranked you have to constantliy get better to make it, if you are hard stuck go and practice and train with people who will whoop your ass they will teach you stuff that is absolutely vital to getting better it takes time but learning the game the right way will make your whole brawl experience better.

(I'm gold 4) You're totally right, it is something I'm trying to work. I have a VERY aggressive play style and as my actions are not random it works pretty well with other aggressive players. But if I'm matched up with somebody who takes his time to analyze my movements, I'm getting destroyed. I really have to learn more balanced play style.

This is good advice, because i get tilted so often when people with lower elo win against me

I was gold my 1st season, every gold/plat i fought was super easy because i was on their mind/brain level and i was used to fighting them so i would just play full aggressive against them and would 3 stock most of the time, but last season i hit diamond, and this season i started playing ranked i fought against a couple of plats and i just got used to fighting 2300-2500s so i was on the level of those players and when i fight a silver/gold/plat i might struggle a bit because they are unpredictable and are way worse compared to what i normally fight. Since i'm used to players who know what they are doing and have good movement and throw out attacks that actually make sense to do at that moment, when i fight someone who has no idea what they are doing, have terrible unpredictable movement, and throw out attacks that make no sense to use at that moment, you will struggle more than the people that u are about the same in skill or against people that are better than you. and that is why i lost 1 game to a silver player lmao

Worth mentioning is the mental block good players get fighting bad players; like they can bring you down to your level.

also i know sherwpy didnt say this but in my experince with ranked unless your sandstorm level of reading and knowing how to play and even then he can play a bit passive to get a download on someone anywhere usually past 2300-2400 you have to be a bit more parry/passive and wait for attacks to come out so i agree 100% im glad someone said it

aggressive play doesn't work at high level unless you're santy

You also have much more accurate expectations going into a game against a Diamond player than people in the same elo. People like to think they're better than other people in their own bracket and they deserve to win, but when someone goes up against a player who has *proof* that they're better, the worse player's expectations of success changes more to "getting a stock" rather than "win"

I am plat and I can totally relate to all of this. When ever I play against a Diamond the game feels more controlled and more like a mind game where you have to pressure at the right time to bait enemy dodges. I play more focused and try to learn from the supposedly better player. Against plat players it is similar, but the learn effect feels less smooth, but also less pressured. Against golds it mostly feels like they are as good as me or even better until I find out what their limits are. All ranks below gold are spamming random attacks and hardly ever dodge. They just play a completely different game.

I sometiems meet Diamonds in Experimental. The latest being a Volkov with a lot of hours wiht him under their belt while I was playing Sidra to hone my canon a bit further. I was so close to win but in the end I didn't, it was a very good learning experience though! I very rarely win against Diamond which is why i think i'm not ready for it yet and I know why, I need to further improve on some stuff that needs some honing like movement and positionning. Also I'm still a bit on the over agression as well and I'm working on reducing it and so far so good!

well, i do better when i play in tournaments... my peak was getting top 5 (community tournament) in 1s and top 8 (community tournament in 2s. if theres one thing i can learn from it, is to NEVER go offstage final stock with a brynn

I peaked at 2064 last season and still have an issue with beating 1750 elo players; apparently its extremely common for people my elo to struggle against 1750s, as I figured out. Every ranked reset I usually have trouble climbing out of 1800, once I reach 1900 it suddenly gets a lot easier.

This is why I always say I prefer fight high diamonds than gold's cause these foolls don't know what there doing and reading them can be annoying but a high diamond does so it's easy to go toe to toe with them (was diamond twice but can't get it back pain)

I fought against my friend who's like a 6 time diamond or whatever 10 times and won 4 times he beat me 6 times i fought against a spamming really bad silver/low tier gold player 10 times and lost 8 times and only won 2 i am quite literally the definition of "i play better against good people"

The last few seasons have also remade getting higher elos way more difficult simply because the game is growing. I used to be able to get into mid plat relatively easily 2 or 3 seasons ago, but last season I didn’t even hit plat. It’s probably got more to it than just that, but I feel like you have to be way better to reach plat or diamond than you did 6 months ago.
