In 2023, the global community recognized Malaysia for receiving the highest tourist arrivals in Southeast Asia. Please don't depict Malaysia as inferior. Malaysia is one of the most underrated countries in the world. With a population of 30 million, its exports exceed USD 300 billion, and annual petroleum revenue exceeds USD 100 billion. The purpose of Malaysian politics/politicians is to 1) be a cautionary tale for Singapore; 2) remind Singaporeans that Lee Kuan Yew's "moment of anguish" in 1965 was a blessing in disguise; 3) provide Singaporeans with the political intrigue so lacking in local politics; 4) failing all of the above, provide entertainment and amusement. If these MPs had limited knowledge, education and intellectual ability, what topics can they discuss in their Parliament other than food? I think Bak Kut teh happens to be a favourite dish to one politician. Hence, it became a hot topic in the parliament debates. I’m from Singapore and I’m a Muslim. The first time I ate halal claypot beef (Bak) Kut teh was in the 90s and it instantly became one of my favourites (I love Chinese food). I love the smell and taste of its herbal broth. And from there I began to adopt the liking of unique taste of herbal duck too. I seriously don’t care where it’s originated from Singapore or Malaysia. Because I think the credits should rightfully go to the Chinese (both singaporean and malaysian) who successfully created this glorious dish.

Singapore... Singapore... Singapore... you're a master of putting others down to bring yourself up. You're so full of it. This channel is nothing but just a branch of CNA, the so-called news channel. Having a British-accented voice-over doesn't make your content more truthful, believable, and trust-worthy.

Who are you decide what's culture of malays & malaysians? Do you understand the meaning of malaysia? If its not related wirh malay & not consumable by malays whom are Muslim, better dont comment & debate it! Beloved food? For you maybe, but are representing & resembling malay essence in your ethics like me? Even it's not malay name or a food that not consumed by malays also!!! If arabic foods registered as food culture of China, will you accept? Be fair, neo colonist! Claiming ownership? Hey the china culture department itself already registered it under fujian culture food in different name! Just you name it same recipe in different name at klang town, doesnt mean its your invention! Legally Its variation of fujian dish, into malaysian hokkien name

So if more than 70% of your people corrupts, and now you can proudly include corruption in your list of national pride.

The number of people eating the food is not really the criteria. The most important factor is whether it is good and praised by people, not necessarily in Malaysia only, but also by foreigners. It is a Malaysian food. Is it not? Its not designated a national dish, it is to be one of the heritage food.

Hello, almost all ethnic Chinese and some ethnic Indians have tried BKT. And they represented at least 20-25% of the population. Where do you get only 5%? Heritage food means it is something that was innovated in this country. Not found elsewhere. We should be proud instead of creating divisions. Indonesia doesn't find Bakso offensive since these were brought in by ethnic Chinese.

I am Malaysian born Chinese. I think Char Kueh tiau is a better alternative . It is because the ingredients is halal. Tiong is talking nonsense saying that Bkt can be prepared in a halal way. How can you change the ingredients ? The original isn't halal.

well,... bak kut teh was invented in Malaya for few hundreds of years since British colonial era,... it was those lowly chinese hard labor at the ship port, we call them coolies who , invented the dish,... they pickup those scrap of herbs that fell from cargo when transporting,... and boiled them with left over bones for cheap nourishing lunch,.. hence it's called bak kut teh = meat bones tea,...
@Salasaur
@Salasaur 5 месяцев назад
Nope, it was from Singapore because the coolies came to Singapore first before settling down elsewhere. The coolies brought along the habit of eating pork dishes, however there wasn't any pork in the region. Eventually, the first abattoir was set up in Singapore allowing them to combine the spices of India along with the raw meat of China, and then birth bah kut teh. When Singapore railway connected to Malaysia, that's when you guys finally get to eat the dish. The earliest documented mention of the dish is in the late 1800 to early 1900. While Malaysia version is only after World world 2. The version that you guys are so proud of, is just a made up dish after world war 2, most likely because the opium died off and your earlier chef wants to clear off the opium.

Remember Malaysia is a muslim country.Islam is the official religion.The Bak KuTeh soup is not suitable to highlight because it is not consume by the majority of the population due to pork and pork oil ingredient in the soup.The problem with the chinese group in Malaysia is they refuse to accept that certain food cannot be highlight and against religious sentiment here.This kind of provocation and attempt to create racial war is very now since the DAP a chinese predorminant party is part of the ruling political party .Guess this is the last time they strive .The majority of the population willill

@BengGuan-hq8sb

Your report is illuminating, but l have to correct some points. First,. Muslim Malays have their own version of Kolo mee, albeit with beef as meat. The original Kolo mee have pork or even chicken as meat. Then, Bak Kut Teh actually means meat bones herbal concoction as in Bak (meat) Kut (bones) and Teh (herbs). Opponents insist that Bak here means pork, which is erroneous. It can mean beef, lamb or even seafood. Problem is some politicians wanted to score brownie points with their Muslim voters and they blew the issue sky-high!
