Well,first off, the pitching has to keep doing a good job and the defense also. LINDOR has to keep raking and hitters like ALONSO,VIENTOS, NIMMO and ALVAREZ better wake up and start to do some meaningful hitting.

A's 18 - Phillies 3 July 14th...Hoping we see this version of Phillies...I also think METS batting slump is over BECAUSE of the no-hitter through 8th inning by Francis the other day...Although hitless, METS only had 1 K and made bat-to-ball contact 23 out of 24 times...Before Lindor opened the floodgates with his magnificent crusher to right filed off of Francis...

Im worried about these two series. Mets bats have gone cold recently, they were lucky to get out of toronto winning 2/3. Luckily the pitching has been solid since August but the Phillies can hit and theyre hot. I hope the Mets can step up

The Mets won’t make the playoffs this season why because they don’t have the pitching depth to compete. Now next season I do think that they will make the playoffs. But this with the Phillies depends on who’s pitching better and who’s hitting better.

When the Red Sox were down 0-3 to the Yankees in the 04 ALCS, a reporter started his question to Kevin Millar, that the Sox needed to win the next 4 games. Millar calmly said, "No we don't." This surprised the reporter and me. He said "we only have to win game 4." I realized that this is a window into the mindset of a pro athlete. It's what allowed the Red Sox to win game 4 and then game 5 etc. It;s what allows Nicklaus to take a 7 on the par 3 12th on Sunday at the Masters, then go on to birdie 13, 14, 15 and 16. All they look at is this game, this pitch, this at bat or this shot. It certainly changed the way I looked at performance and how I think about and analyze sports.

Happy Birthday, Ryan! As I said, the entire season hinges on these 10 games. I think the Mets will be lucky to win ONE game & hope Atlanta sweeps the Braves to pick up a game. Quintana will be lucky if he can stop the Phillies from scoring more than 5 runs after 3 innings, Severino will crumble on Saturday. Just look at his innings. He hasn’t pitched this many innings in SIX YEARS! Peterson on short rest possibly could be the game they have a 50/50 chance, but he came off a poor outing on too much rest. Does he need that routine to stay sharp or is he running out of steam or was last week just an off game? This is a team that got a closer at the deadline dramatically improving their bullpen and not a weak bat where anyone can send the ball into orbit. These 3 games should show how far apart they were from the teams that could could go to the World Series & why it was the right thing to not sell the farm at the trade line or spend outrageously in the offseason. I have said this numerous times about being creative with their pitching instead of throwing megill & houser as regular starters loss after loss after loss going all the way back to when they had houser. Megill is a 4 inning pitcher and is the perfect guy to piggy back off from. They could have used Scott more judiciously & brought him up much sooner. They could have brought up sproat as an opener when he was white hot instead of having him face setbacks in AAA. Senga is another guy who could use as to piggyback off of. The Mets had a lot of tools at their disposal & just went with 5 men & that’s what lost them this season, imho.

The diamondbacks and padres finish the season against either other. So it could in theory allow the Braves and Mets to both sneak in the wild card.

No way in gods green earth does Senga touch Peterson or manaea starts. He starts first game or two on Quintana or McGill days and have either of them come out pen until Senga ready to start for real. But no way change Peterson or manaea or even Sevy starts.

If he’s ready to go for the Atlanta or Milwaukee series, he could be the difference in the Mets making or missing the playoffs given how tight the race is. If he’s ready, he should be out there.

Thx capt obvious. Philly 7 games and Atl 3 games are key to wild card. And Div is out of reach. Brilliant! Realisticly, Mets must go min 4 - 3 against Phi. And 2-1 against Nationals. To be even or +1 with Atl going into Atl series. Atl should go min 6-4 against Dodgers, Reds and Marlins

WHY, oh why does everyone love/fear ATL...??? Just because of "history"...?? History, such as it is, means nothing over these last 16 Games. ATL are only +3 Games over .500 since May 29th...METS are +25 Games over .500 in the same span...ATL mixed in TWO 6-game losing streaks as well - one in late July and one in August. I actually expect ATL to lose a few more games than the METS do, so that the METS end up 3 Games up on ATL at the end....

@@Thagomizer-U235 Sure ATL has beaten the LAD twice but ATL blew a 4 Game lead over the METS in less than two weeks and are now tied with the METS...Additionally, the METS are 58 - 34 since May 29th while ATL is 50 - 45 over the same timeframe, including TWO 6-Games losing streaks, one in July and one in August...METS are better, METS are hotter over the long span of 92 Games since May 29th

There are probably 8 teams that can win it all this year, the Phil’s and Mets are 2 of them. The Padres and DBacks scare me the most as a Phillies fan. The NL is ridiculous, I think 6 teams can win the Pennant. the American League looks like the Astros or Yanks, unless they have to play each other, in which case I like the Astros again.

I think with the new playoff format it doesn’t give enough benefit to a team that was great in the season and allows a okay team that got hot with a chance win it all. 2 years of the new format and only 1 team with a bye series made it out of the first round. Hitting is so about timing and 5/6 days not facing real pitching I think hurts that team
