Proud of you! I’m a 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT owner myself. I love your H-D videos and will thoroughly enjoy your new Honda Goldwing videos as well. Congrats and ride safe!
I used to own an Electraglide Classic and worked in 2 Harley dealerships for 6yrs eventually becoming a sales manager. When I left the business in 2010 I got a Victory for the superior engine and transmission. Now I just got a BMW touring bike. I still love Harley styling...but they have really dropped the ball in technological advancements and convenience features for the rider. Honda and BMW are simply far better machines even compared to a Harley that someone put an extra $6-8k into. I wish HD would get their heads out of their asses...for the premium price, riders should be getting a lot more.
Indian is offering a choice between "vintage" and "modern." Of course, their "vintage" machines make Harleys look like worn out lawnmowers, but the "modern" ones are in a totally other class. You can get air cooled or water cooled. Take your pick.
Mike, you don't need to justify your choice! Yes, I have a Limited and enjoyed your escapades when I was shopping but I was considering the 2018 Goldwing, the 2018 Star Venture, and the BMW K1600GTL at the time as well. I still have my BMW K1200GT in addition to the 2018 Limited and my opinion is this is a personal thing like what shoes you like, and if they have 2 wheels and an engine what's not to like! Don't justify it, ride it, and enjoy it! I must say though that the DCT is a game changer and allows more time spent paying attention to the roadway and less on a sore left hand in traffic!
Me myself will collect whatever I want and ride whatever I like It's not about what you ride just that you ride Enjoy your new 1800 goldwing With no regrets😁
I have been looking at exactly the same including the bagger versions the eluder had me until i found out its air cooled and belt drive. The problem i have is i ride a st1300 it holds a xl each pannier and 2 in top and i wanted similar but all the new bikes are smaller none have the storage but the venture does have a huge topbox. To me its such a shame they are making these beasts smaller it really defeats what a large tourer was created for. my dream bike would be 1. full size luggage 2. tow bar as standard 3. slide out side plates under the top box allowing bulky light things to be strapped on 4. a top box rack with good weight capacity. what i dont need is 1000 settings in a dash. a radio or sound system bettered by a £200 bluetooth that i need to chat to my pillion anyway and a satnav that sucks. If someone released a bike built for storage and touring as above i would do what i never said i would and buy one new tomorrow regardless the price. oh shit wait i already own it now where can i buy a good trailer hitch and how can i make the side plates
There are lots of other bikes with nav systems, Bluetooth, heated surfaces, and power windshields... but, there are two things on the new Goldwing were revelations to me when I first experienced it... and anyone else who's only ever ridden "conventional" motorcycles will feel the same. One is the DCT. First of all, you just don't know how nice it is not having to shift until you've tried it; secondly, the speed at which it can execute shifts is AMAZING! Same technology as on modern exotic cars, and if it's amazing on a Ferrari, I can only describe it as otherworldly on a Goldwing. Two is the reverse. Especially for a shorter rider, it's like a new found freedom, not having to worry about parking where you want regardless of which way the road is inclined. Couple other things like the stock led lighting (outperforms HD Daymakers - and that's saying something), and central locking is just icing on the cake! Btw, if you haven't already, check out the Pathfinder LED sequential cowl lights... one of my favourite upgrades for the new Wing. Oh, and you can still potentially shift into the wrong gear... if you ever ride in "manual" mode 😝
4 года назад
Yamaha FJR 1300 has F1 derived secuencial semi auto gear box since 2006, 145 hp, excellent for sport touring, accelerates, handle, brakes like a dream. And its almost unbreakable, 200.000 miles without major issues are well common.
Welcome to the Honda Dct community! I have a smaller Dct Honda motorcycle and its my second motorcycle but first Dct. But let me tell you...I...LOVE....IT! I love the transmission options were given on the Dct; Drive, Manual and Sport mode...whatever our fancy..will I ever go back to riding with a clutch? Probably not.. Amazing in traffic not to consistently pulling in the clutch to change gears..Dct..the way of the future of motorcyles. Cheers!
Doesn't matter what you ride, you define the bike... not the other way around. Forget about the mystique, the image, the brand loyalty. I encourage riders to experience all types of bikes during their life of riding. Last time I checked we still live in a democracy, so we should be able to buy, ride and enjoy any bike we can get our hands on. You do not have to explain your bike decisions to anyone. I, myself, have owned and enjoyed lots of bikes, from 200# putt-putts, to 950# heavy touring bikes, loved all of them. Nothing wrong with a Harley... but it is just a bike.
Congratulations! I’m a die hard Harley fan myself. Had to sell my Road King because my medical problems just made it impossible to feel safe and secure on the road. A 2 hour ride would have me recovering for 3-4 days. Post shoulder replacement still leaves me at a deficit in mobility and reaction time. The love of riding far out weighs the love of a single brand. This is an excellent option for guys like us with disabilities but still love to ride.
It really is a great option and it not only allows us to ride on, but to ride better than we ever thought possible. Sorry for your pain, as I can commiserate. The bike is the one thing that balances the equation of increasing age, pain, and inability to do things.
I think you made the right choice ;) I absolutely love my 18 DCT Tour. I also have a Street Glide which I really enjoy but I agree with you...my new Gold Wing ticked off all my boxes as well and I find myself wanting to ride it more and more!
Dude the story of how you named the bike is amazing. I know your dad would be extremely happy and moved by how your honoring his name. I dream to own a wing someday.
Thanks, Dustin! Much appreciated. I know he'd be so excited about this bike. I wish he could be here to share the journey. I hope you get a chance to own a Wing some day. I never thought I would own a motorcycle, and now I'm on my 5th. Ya never know!
My wife & I ride a 2016 Ultra Limited Stage 2. First H-D in 20 years and we really enjoy it. We had a Wing several years ago and really enjoyed it as well. Rock solid quality, ride, and just a solid bike. If I could afford it, I would have both. As you note, both have advantages, and some things that we might improve on, but that is why we have choices. Thanks for sharing.
Had 12 Harley’s and still have two in my garage 2014 fat bob and 2017 ultra limited with stg.4 kit installed. I could related to what you said about shifting stiff clutch and noise that cancels my music and gps voice directions.I’m 67 now and considering buying dct goldwing . Waiting for 2020 wings to be released. Now days I don’t have to prove a thing to anyone, at my age looking for comfort quiet machine, automatic and reverse. I divorced my reverse quite some time no one to push the bike when I get into a situation. Lol.
Ted Dworak I feel the same! Still got a 1200 SuperLow and Street Glide with the 103, but those new Wings are getting mighty irresistible😊 I live in the city and the Sportster is just so fun, easy, and convenient for those spur of the moment rides around town. On the other hand, I t's like an event every time I take the SG out, taking the cover off, removing the charger, pushing it out of its corner of the garage (front wheel and left bag have to be against walls to make room for old lady's car)... but it's so nice for those all day rides. Thing is, with Honda injecting some of their sport bike DNA into the new Goldwing, I see it being able to do the job of both the HD's.
I have a buddy who has this exact machine, color and all. My Road King is the exact opposite of this kind of bike. Where this is silky smooth and has refinement beyond measure, my King is a bit of a rattly, shaking beast. I would love to own both of these bikes. There is something visceral about the King that just makes you smile, where the smooth, crisp refinement of the Wing makes you smile also, just in a different way. They are true polar opposites.
"Squeezy things" . "factor in my laziness"...I nearly spit out my drink when you said that. LOL...Love the new Goldie brother.....Enjoy it and I think it's beyond COOL that you gave it a name after your Dad. RSMF
Thanks so much! Glad you got a kick out of it. I really miss my Dad so much and I wish he were here to enjoy this new adventure with me. I could not help but hear his name in my head when looking at this bike.
Had a Honda 450, Kaw1000, Honda CBX, and learning why a gold wing should be called a CBX Tour...Nice to see someone who explained the difference. I want black 2.
I just got a new Gold Wing. I didn't go with the tour model. It's fairly economical for such a large motorcycle. Spinning 2500RPM at 75MPH, the engine may be good for 500K miles.
Well you were right! I really liked this video! Surprised as heck! Congrats on the new ride! Love my ‘08 wing. I’m sure this one will do you good on your long rides! Look forward to seeing your new adventures!
Congrats. I rode Harleys for 27 years but last year I traded my '16 RGU in for an '18 DCT Goldwing Tour. The first test ride left me speechless about how great the bike was, but it took two more test rides before I finally relented and admitted to myself that I would trade my Harley in for a Honda. 5K+ miles later and I have zero regrets, the Wing is the best touring bike I've ever owned or ridden. Enjoy!
Both bikes are nice..would love to have both in my garage..harleys may not be the most reliable bike but theres something about them that really puts a big smile in your face..hondas also amazing machines..both have my love for different reasons..whatever it is we ride ,its the same wind we enjoy..
That is Exactly the way I Felt when I jumped on the Ultra limited classic cvo Here was just a feeling of being alive and badass on two wheels😁👍🏾/ And I ride an 1800 goldwing 06 model So I decided I want both ❤ . And I tested out and love the way the new goldwing rides🥰🥰🥰
Hello, from Nottingham U.K. The T symbol on the dashboard is the Torque Control Indicator. It comes on (illuminates) when the bike is first turned on and it turns off when the bike reaches approximately 3 mph. Enjoy your new bike, I traded in my 2016 Goldwing 40th Anniversary model for a new DCT Goldwing. Decided to go for the red and black colour scheme as I think it really suits the bike. Starting to appreciate the DCT the more I ride the bike. Ride safe sir.
Hey Bro, I can relate. I have Harley Softail and have arthtist in my left hand and cannot even make a fist. My riding activities have fallen off due to the pain. Looking at other alternatives like the DCT. Another point, I could lose the 'Screamin' Eagles' and not miss it. In retirement, I love quiet.
Yes! Yours is a familiar story to which Harley should pay heed! Sorry for your troubles, but I’m confident you’ll find the right solution for you. May we both have many joyful years of riding ahead!
The Goldwing is an awsome bike no doubt about it. But I think I will stick to my Road Glide. Not sure I will ever own anything but harleys? But hey if it's what you want more power to ya! Ride your own ride! Enjoy that new bike!
Thanks, Rennie. For me, it all came down to the specific set of circumstances I found myself in and having to admit to myself that I had changed in my wants/needs. If I weren't such a speed and twisty addict, if I had less sensitive hearing, if I could tolerate heat better, and if my left hand were not so achy, I'd never have made this change. Getting old necessitates modifications I never would have imagined. Stay tuned for Maikeli7 2022: The Hoverround Years!
@@maikeli7 the automatic transmission can be the difference between continuing to ride and having to give it up for some people. I know a few who have nerve damage in their wrists who either cant ride long or who have stopped all together. Not to mention the guys who have lost a leg in the war? And the reverse is a nice feature if your not able to handle the bike. I get all the advantages and if it ment the difference in still riding and giving it up I might someday look into something different?
@@renniesmith8073 Reverse is really nice, if you are on a slope or gravel or things like crushed concrete where you can't get a grip with your feet... Goldwings are buttery smooth and last forever there are several GL1800's with over half a million miles and still going. I've owned over 75 motorcycles and for me there is nothing like them and I don't tour, they are fun to just ride around on.
Beautiful ride Mike! I agree with how your Dad felt, I was always partial to Honda and Kawasaki and one of the best rides I ever owned was a Kawasaki Voyager 12. That bike was nothing short of amazing on long trips. Enjoy the new ride and be safe out there my friend.
I didn't start my street riding on a Harley but in my younger years I rode them for over 25 years. Back then I love the noise and the image that came with riding a Harley but like you, as I got older none of that matters anymore. I like being able to hear the radio and much more importantly the traffic around me. I ride because it is a part of who I am and I have discovered that it matters not what you ride but that you do ride.
Yes, all of this is true for me as well. Before, a large part of it was how I saw myself and how I sought to be seen, but that is over now. I just care about how the bike feels, how it handles, and how comfortable I am.
Mike I loved my Ultra Classic...2017 Stage 2. It ran great, handled great for a big girl, very easy to ride, and reliable as an anvil. Someone close to me was killed on his bike so I go spooked and sold it. Before the HD I had an F6B Goldwing. Reliable, handled great, and was plenty fast enough. Now I have a BMW R1250 GSA and love it. But still....I love Harleys. Ride what you enjoy and what works for you. We are blessed to live in a era with such great machines!
Brand loyalty is foolish, particularly when you’re spending a significant amount of money.Ride everything,do your homework, and settle on what suits you best.
You get it! People have said that it is too expensive a bike for them, but think about it: I bought my 2016 FLHTK for 26,900, and then I added $4,000 to it to make it go faster. Back then, the 6th gen GW didn't exist, so I can't really kick myself over it, but now, instead of doing something like I did, a person can get what I have now for $28,000.00 instead of shelling out $31,000 or more.
@@maikeli7 Same boat here in Vt, I saved 4k and the options that are included on the honda is awesome! And its a automatic! You will like it, I promise!
Silver Fox thank you so much. This is exactly why I shared it! My experience is probably not uncommon at all. Maybe it will give other people more confidence.
Congrats I guess a friend I ride with bought a new GW last year and really likes it.This may sound funny but when you were switching out your riding gear from your leathers to the more modern synthetics I figured the Harley was going.
I'm only 38 and fricken love the new DCT Goldwing.. super nice and last weekend I stopped at a coffee shop and there was an older gentleman with a 18 DCT, he has 218k already and said his bike still ran as good as day 1. And that 1833cc is silky smooth and fast
I totally get it, the connection to your dad notwithstanding, there are just too many things the 'Wing offers that you can't get on any Harley... no matter how much you spend: active suspension, drive modes, traction control (you can finally get that from HD in 2020), power wind screen, reverse gear, 7 spd DCT, and a super smooth 6 cylinder mill to name a few.
Welcome to the "World of Wings"! Myself, I have a 2018 DCT Tour that I use for my long distance (70 miles a day) commute and I have a 2007 Road King for weekend pleasure riding! Enjoy the ride!
Had an Ultra limited. Sold it after less than a year. Was no fun to ride with a passenger. I now have a 2019 Goldwing. So much better balanced. Not to mention that thr Ultra wind buffeting on the highway was awful. The Goldwing allows me to completely eliminate wind buffeting. Alo love forward and reverse creep mode
I thank you for all of your videos! I've watched many of them, and am patiently waiting for my 2021 black tour DCT to be ready for me to pick up. I'm trading in my 2017 Road Glide Ultra after 48,000 miles. Seeing your and Moose's experiences have made me confident and excited for the change... So thank you! Keep 'er upright! Be good!
Great video, love your honest opinion! I ride a 2011 Road King and enjoy long distance touring. I’ll be retiring in a few years and think that a new DCT Goldwing would make a great retirement gift to myself! I’ll keep watching and reading and in a few years I’ll probably pull the trigger. Stay safe out there brotha 👍
Thanks, Jeff! Yes, this bike is all that it is said to be, and more. Just don't think two people can go on a long tour easily on this setup. The luggage space and weight limit are not for two regular-sized people in America today. :-)
Just saw this video again, and I think you’re right; back in ‘72 the Honda 750 was one of the number 1, and the most popular Honda big bikes! (I don’t recall them having anything larger until the GoldWing). So, from your dad (I’m about his age, and had all Honda’s, from the 450, 750, & GoldWing), I’d say, thank you son! ( that’s what I’d say to my son if he’d do that)! He’d be mighty happy with your selection of the GoldWing! (I don’t even know you and I’m happy lol!) Enjoy the ride; as for me, I’m sold on it; having had one of those original - a brownish red color, a 1977 or 78 model. I had been riding for about 10 years or more, and although lots of guys were getting the Kawasaki 900’s , beemers, Yamaha, Harley Davison’s - a big seller (I almost bought one). I always had a thing for Honda’s! Anyway, the GoldWing nowadays seems, to me anyway, to be just right! 👍
Maikeli7 Sorry for your loss; he was just a few years on me (I’m still in my 70’s), and like you, I wish I could’ve rode with my dad. But, I did get to ride with my mom lol! She wasn’t going to let her 3 sons have all the fun, so she went out and bought her a Honda 200 (or 250 or something)! And she’d get a hold of us and say let’s ride lol! (plus she was a NYSTATE court officer and had a pistol from the city! ( I had got my NY State pistol permit, and we’d go to a range and do target shooting! She was a good shot too! 😂
I loved my Honda ex-policeST1100PPan European which sadly 'died' 😊the day I suffered a stroke whilst riding it. But now, after being left paraplegic and fully paralysed in my left arm, I cannot operate a conventional clutch lever on a motorbike, but really want to get back on a motorcycle, so am thinking that a Honda Goldwing GL1800DCT Tour would be a wonderful bike for me. I would also be looking at getting it converted into a trike too, as my sense of balance is now crap too! All I need to do now, is find someone who wants to buy one for me!! To get the conversion into a trike, I should be able to get a grant to have this done. But, if somebody wants to pay for that too, that would be seriously awesome and I'd be forever grateful!!
Im a new subscriber and really enjoy your videos. I'm currently an Indian Roadmaster owner and was thinking about doing the 116 upgrade. But thats $4,000 +. So now I've started thinking about just buying either a new 116 Indian, or a GoldWing DCT. Your videos have really opened my eyes. A demo ride of the GW DCT is in my future. Thanks for all your videos!
I stumbled on your channel by accident, and glad I did. Great video of your new ride!...the Harley dealer near me acted the same way, even in their used bike warehouse. The Honda dealer was totally opposite. Your video makes me want to go pull the trigger and ride one home! Congrats on the new ride and happy and safe riding!
Very, very cool! I love this bike! My DCT is awesome... you will really enjoy having this option when you are in stop-and-go traffic. Happy for ya!👍💃🏍😊
This video and bike might be what gets me back on a bike, after a 40 year break. I had a '74 honda 550, totaled that on the Blue Ridge Pkw, in Oct. '77. Two moths later, I received the first bike to dethrone the Kawi Z-1, the KZ 900 was the fastest bike you could buy for about 5 years, until Yamaha came out with the XS-Eleven in 1978. 11.7 seconds in the quarter, out of the create, I had the very first one in Miami. I was 21 years old and enjoying the fastest most advanced bike by far back then. I road to the Keys often and all over S. Fl. and to Mich. twice, it was the best 3-4 years of my life,.. I haven't owned a bike since then, but I'm thinking about traveling across the country again on one of these new Gold Wings. They seem so nice, well engineered and the slow cruiser should keep me from racing around everywhere like when I was young, but still offer that feeling of riding a bike, state to state, for 6 months or a year maybe. One more time. This video helped me feel normal for still wanting to ride. I just don't know if I would like that automatic, what if I hate it? they don't give out test rides much. I think it could be ok, but I never thought I could even consider such a thing on a big. I guess if I'm giving up the handling and speed, I could also give up the shifting, but then it's so different from riding like it used to be, just not sure yet. Thank you for the video.
Bill MacKinnon I went down Beartooth Pass between 95 and 105 miles an hour taking pretty sharp corners at speed. I don’t think handling will be less than you expect. As for the automatic, it is the best decision I ever made.
Came to ride Harley Davidson's rather late in life. I'm now on my fourth. I started out on Hondas, owned quite a few of them. Always enjoyed them. You have a really nice bike, enjoy it and ride in good health.
Great video, you got another subscriber! Really thought your naming convention was really cool and I'm sure your dad is looking down and smiling on you. I have an Ultra Classic I named Blue Thunder, or BT for short. It's flame blue Pearl 2009. It currently has 110 k on it but I too will be putting a DCT in the garage. Ride safe and enjoy your new toy! I'm going for blue..... 👍
Bruce Kuhn Thanks, Bruce! I know that you will absolutely adore your new ride, not saying anything negative about your old ride. The differences are really striking.
I'm 64 and rode Honda's since 1965 when Dad bought a trail 90 for the farm. Always wanted a Harley and finally bought a used ultra last year. But I'm jealous of you today. Nice bike!
I'm currently running a '13 GoldWing 1800, and a '14 UltraLimited. Each bike is better than the other at specific things, so which one comes out the garage depends on where I'm going, for how long, and whether I'll be alone. The Harley's done 44k miles, and has had a new water pump, new ECM, and new discs. The Wing's done 36k miles, and has needed gas and oil, and tyres.
I have no affinity for Harleys, but I have even less than nothing for GoldWings.... and DAMN IT!!! shifting is totally part of the motorcycle experience.... Now that my semantics are over, I hope you totally enjoy the new Wing and its everything you want. Enjoy your new ride because that's all that matters.
I have enjoyed the shifting life since I started in 2006, but HarleyTrek and Moose3971 can both attest to the pain of clutching in heavy traffic. It sucks. Now, I don't have to worry at all. But I do need thicker grips. These things are made for small-handed people. This new GW is not like previous generations, which attracted me not at all, which was also true of the pre-2014 Ultras.
@@maikeli7..... You know you have to have your chops busted when switching brands ...its the right of everyone that knows you... so hang tough :D Your new GW has ticked all the boxes you currently need ticked.... As much crap as I talk, I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more from on and about the new Wing ;)
@@maikeli7 If clutching in traffic kills Harley sales, Harley needs to start flowing some funds to State politicos to free you non-Californians to ride like non cattle. Just roll to the front, neutral, relax until the light changes, then blast off. Like free people everywhere, from San Francisco to North Korea, get to do....... :) Love your new bike, though. And your review as well. Even if I honestly prefer a clutch hacking though tight traffic gridlock, nothing beats DCT for doing so up steep hills on heavy bikes.
Good video. We both rides Wings. Not ready for the new one yet. Still breaking in ours. We love being on the road and and our wings are the bests touring bikes for us "for now". Just do you and you can't lose. Roll safe.
The 2018 Goldwing forum is full of former Harley owners. T means traction control is not on. It comes on once you reach a certain speed. The F4 windshield and a Wingsoft seat rework made me much more comfortable.
As a long time rider and a pretty recent left below the knee amputee, this DCT bike is now checking a lot of my boxes too. My big concern is I drive in a fairly busy area, mostly on city streets. My last bike was a BMW K1600GT which I dearly miss, and even that was a pain to lug around. I worry the GW would be worse, though the fact it's lower is a plus for sure. And if you still worry about the lean angle on the bike, fear not and youtube Yellow Wolf. He rides on and humbles squids on the dragon with his.
Thanks for the info on Yellow Wolf. He is definitely at a skill level I wish to achieve. On my GW, I feel lower to the ground and more planted. The bike has a lower center of gravity than anything I have ridden thus far, and this is very reassuring, making the bike feel much lighter than its 841 pounds. If you have a chance to demo a DCT Tour, I think you will be very happy with it. Stay safe out there!
Don't worry Mike. We still love ya. With a DCT, how do you slip the clutch for U-turns? I get you when you mentioned the Harley noise. I wear ear plugs when I take my Road King out for long rides. I sat on a Gold Wing at this year's Chicago motorcycle show and really liked the seating position and how light it seemed, when picking it up off the kickstand. McRider got rid of his Road King and bought a Wing too and uploaded a video for upgrading the seat. Congrats and Ride Safe.
Thanks, my friend. For the U-Turns, you drag the rear brake and steady throttle. It works better than on my Ultra. I made an emergency U-Turn on a narrow road I never would have tried on my old bike. Amazing stuff! I saw that MC had gotten a new bike. Very funny video he made of it. Great minds think alike!
I was surprised you did what you did, but I totally understand why you did it. I don't, however, understand why anyone would be betrayed by your decision.
There’s no hate here the G/W is a great ride the only dislike is color choice I thought the blue was a looker for me black is just so hard to keep clean there’s going to be a lot of tough labor to keep it clean IMO congratulations on the new ride
Love the black on the 2019 Wing! After a few street bikes and a full dress Suzuki GS850, I bought my first GoldWing at the young age of 22 after a neighbor let me take a ride on his and I knew I had to have one and with the exception of a 2016 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited, GoldWings are the only bikes that I have owned since that first ride. I absolutely loved my Ultra Limited but I had to go back to the Wing, In addition to many of the points that you made, the adjustable windshield is great and the absence of the engine heat in traffic is great. If I could justify having two tour bikes in the garage I would have both. Funny, when I bought the Ultra Limited the dealership acted like they was doing me a favor too! ....By the way, you can lean a whole lot more before you drag a peg on the Dragon!! LOL Ride Safe and enjoy!
The only thing I would change is the grips, when I test drove one of these I found them too small. I think there are grip covers that'll make them bigger.
Nice ride, does not matter what you ride. It’s that you are still able to and your still riding. Heck if the bike could hold more, like my RG I may go that route. Like you I enjoy the lean angle 😁👊🏼👍🏼
viperNohio thank you so much! If I were someone who commonly rode with a passenger, and on long tours, I don’t think this bike would be suitable. The touring line from Harley Davidson is superior in that regard completely.
Good video,...you touch on many issues we older riders are concerned about. Have been considering a Can-Am but love the feel of a bike and the corners. Thanks for sharing and a good job.
Just got around to driving the new gold wing dct. Very smooth and great balance, It might take a while to get used to not grabbing the clutch leaver though 😉.
Congratulations on the new bike will miss the Harley videos mainly because your Harley and mine were just alike besides the stage 4, I had a goldwing that I traded for my Harley and I loved it, just wanted to try the Harley and I love it too, all that matters is ride what makes you happy.
@@maikeli7 oh yeah for sure I'll keep watching I'm not one of those guys that get butt hurt about what someone rides and because I use to ride a goldwing I make it a point to show respect to those guys to because I didn't get that myself riding a wing.
Hey, the last vid I watched was you test driving this bike. Welcome to the Goldwing world. Watch video's from Cruiseman's Garage he is the premier authority on Goldwings and has many video's on everything. There is a trunk rack and bag that lets you carry a bag on top of trunk. Again welcome, I am on my third wing!
Got the 2019 Bagger version, so manual. Toured Spain and Portugal this year and really delighted with her. Tried the bigger DCT version but preferred the manual box. 4,500 miles since May'19 and no issues at all.
It's funny how Harley and Goldwing riders perceive there is this big chasm, almost animosity, between the two groups. While to everyone else, they're both gigantic, rolling couches with stereos, cruise control, A/C and more luggage than you are allowed to bring on a Caribian cruise. And they both cost more than most cars, and weigh almost as much as them.... :) It's a bit like BMW vs Mercedes car drivers. To long time Bimmer drivers, buying a Benz is often considered "going to the dark side," "selling out" and whatnot. While to everyone else on the road, they're darned near the exact same car. Love your new bike. And your review of it as well.
It really is so needless. Each type of bike suits a need, and nobody should feel a need to hate on the other brand. It's so dumb. The reduced weight of this new GW is such a welcome change! And the reduced cargo capacity is actually turning into a good thing. I'm like Sgt. Elias in "Platoon," telling the new kid to "shitcan this, shitcan that . . ." I'm downsizing and it feels good.
Was I ever surprised? I am glad you chose the DCT. I was sure the Harley would let you down before you would make the leap. My outlook on your videos will change, because I was always waiting for the next Harley issue. If I was able, a white DCT would be my new ride. Take care of that beautiful ride. Be safe. Oh! What do STOP signs mean?
I had owned Harleys (four of them) from 2006 to 2019, and I have never had a problem with what the factory produced. All my issues were ever because of things I did or things the techs did and screwed up. What led to this is that I changed. My needs changed. I evolved into a different kind of rider, and I needed a bike to fit who I wanted to be.
Lovely machine. I just shipped my 1800 Wing out for an NC750X DCT purely for economy reasons. Never owned a Harley (not the most popular bike in England) but would love a 1980's Sturgis (not sure I spelt that right, but please let me know).
It was the noise and the shaking on long rides that got me off my 2009 Ultra Classic and on to a 2012 GL1800. Never looked back. Still have a very civilized 1998 Road King Classic to bomb around town on.
I have a Vstar 1300 with loud pipes and I love it through town. I am like you though, it gets old real quick on long rides! I am looking to upgrade next year and the new goldwing is one i am considering. I gotta find me a dealership to do a test ride on!
I prefer this bike to the last one, even though I love Harleys, I love Hondas just as much. Glad you're happy with your purchase. Many happy miles, mate. Keep the rubber side down.
Great bike bro. I’m looking forward to more vids. I’m on a street glide right now, but am very curious about the wing. All the things I’d love to have, the wing has.
If you like to lean hard, if you like to get up and go quick, and power out of turns; if you love comfort, convenience, and quiet, then this is a must-try machine! If you like relaxed touring with scenery aplenty and not too aggressive riding, then the Ultra or RG or SG is a far superior choice.
In the end people like what they like for whatever reason , I’ve own 3 Harleys and enjoyed them all , I now own a 2018 gold wing and am enjoying it at the moment , just as I’ve enjoyed many different women they all had different things I enjoyed about them. People spend way too much time trying to justify what they do to others , just live and enjoy things and people as only you can Nice bike I am enjoying mine for thus time in my life Ride safe 👍🏻
That is a good looking bike in black - I didn't care for the '18 colors. Smooth and quiet is the way to go. The dash reminds me of the Accord coupe that I had and loved. And the DCT is nice but does take some getting used to. Search around for 'DCT recalibration' or whatever it's called for when it starts acting a little wonky. I don't mind shifting at all and the hydro clutch on my '15 Limited is way better than the cable clutch on the '84 FLH was, but I would go with the DCT for sure. I recently went from a manual 10 speed to an auto-shift (not automatic) 10 speed in the work truck and absolutely love it. Why did you go all the way out to that dealer - no one closer to Raleigh that you would buy from? Is the .99% from Honda? IDK - I'd have to buy a space man helmet. A skin tight Euro riding suit. Euro boots. Euro gloves. I'd have to get a matching outfit for my wife. New rain gear. All new T shirts. We'd need a color matched trailer. With cutesy 'road names' painted in fancy script. With fancy scrolled pin striping.... it would be too much of a shock to handle. But that is one sexy quiet bike you have there - I need one!
hogdriver88 yeah, I could not find this bike for this price and this Honda financing deal anywhere close to me. Plus, that day, I needed to go on a 400-mile ride just for the hell of it!
I loved my Harley and can easily see myself on another one some day. All these bikes are a unique riding experience but there is nothing like a Harley-Davidson. I'm on a BMW boxer twin these days and these are unique fun to ride machines as well. Damn it! I love the Japanese, English, and Italian bikes too!
