While Nas has been releasing a multitude of great albums this decade with the King's Disease and Magic series, do you know the shocking reason why he went on this run in the first place...
Wasn't Nas's fault, Kanye rushed that project. It's clear with the classics and quality Nas has produced with Hit-Boy that the failed NASIR album was Kanye's fault.
Nasir had tracks like Adam and Eve, Everything and Simple Things. Lost Tapes 2 had Queensbridge Politics, Highly Favored, Shit Never Ends and Lost Freestyle. Both albums were fire to me. I still listen to them. I just think that since he's delivered some of the best albums in his career like Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic and, Life is Good and is regarded to be in the G.O.A.T. conversation he is held with high expectations. I'm just grateful for him giving us beautiful music and still teaching us lessons through his experiences. 💯
@@fantastichiphopYe and Pusha T music 10 times better than anything Nas and HitBoy overrated ass has ever put out. Like Jay Z said Nas is two albums Illmatic and it was written. The end
@@AntonnChigurhPeace Bro. I respect & comprehend your opinion as I love Ye’s catalogue. As a DJ for 30yrs, I admit I don’t really spin Nas tunes in my party like dat, but his lyrical content is SOo underrated. Pls Check “Black Girl Lost”, “We Will Survive”, “If I Ruled the World” ft. Lauryn Hill, “Everything” feat. Dream, “Sabali” feat. Damian Marley jus’ 4 starters. I truly find Soulful Strength in his Art. Zone in on the lyrics on a Gr8 Quality Sound system with decent Bass & tell me what’s your Meditation afterwards. 4 Real Bro. Let’s build not destroy. Barely any rappers serve bars like the songs I mentioned. We ain’t talkin’ entertaining hooks to dance to…One Love & All Da’ Best Wishes.✨💯✊🏽🆙Q.
Nas did this run to make us forget Illmatic. Once the album had it's 25th anniversary, Nas stated he's looking forward and not talking about the album anymore and wants his legacy to be more than that album.
Nasir is very underrated and has aged well, Adam and Eve is one of the sickest songs I’ve heard in a long time, white label bars, bonjour (play that song on a beach) The beats sound unique, not nas’s best rapping but I don’t understand the hate. Most of it comes from non nas fans or people who haven’t listened to it If you put it against artist his level like em, Wayne,50, wu, that album is better then artist his age recent ones. If rap was a sport nas is Jordan especially with the recent hit albums, only thing he lacks is proper radio records that someone like jay z has. It depends what type of listener you are, interesting watch though.
I dont think its bad at all either but you gotta admit its probably Nas's worst album lyrically, with him just spouting a lot of nonsense on not for radio for example and also on everything and the mixing on the record sucks, I cant even hear Nas for most of white label, the album had potential to be fantasric but it was rushed and not as good as it coulda been even though I still enjoyed it and Adam and Eve is a top 10 Nas track ever.
Alright man, I don't know what you're source of information is, but let me tell you that almost nobody was asking for Kanye and Nas album before they announced it. Everybody wanted (and still wants) to hear that Nas/Preemo collab. And even if that album with Kanye collab album failed, that's nothing to be mad at him for, they just linked at the wrong time, where there wasn't enough time to polish everything. So I definitely don't think they won't be working together ever again. Hell, he even used a Kanye produced song on The Lost Tapes 2 a year later. If anything, Hit-Boy is the one who will probably never work with Kanye again. He was dissing him at KD2 release party and talked about their fallout on Composure Part 2 (go listen to it, song is fire). You're just overdramatising the whole situation, it's not that deep. Better luck next time
A Nas Premo album is still the dream for sure and always has been! But that doesn't mean people didn't want a Nas and Ye album as well which was clearly true because of the expectations for Nasir at the time
@@fantastichiphop Of course there were high expactions, considering it was Nas's first album in 6 years and popular critique at that time was that Nas picks bad beats. So linking up with someone like Kanye, who's one of the best producers ever, would bring more attention to it, not to mention the quality of Daytona and KSG. But that doesn't mean there was some massive 13 year hype and demand for their album ever since We Major, like you're describing it in the video. People wanted Nas back on that Illmatic, boom bap, Preemo sound, not Kanye. That's just spreading false information
@@seanjjpaul For the longest time you're saying? If that's the case, find me a clip, other than that one from Drink Champs, where he says it. I'll make your job easier, there is none, I already searched for it. And since when people want the collab album just because rappers are fans of each other?? That's nonsense
This was very informative. Ive always liked nas and know his big hits but never dived into his discography properly. I do album reviews these days so im excited to fully check out his stuff. Any suggestions on which nas album i should start my journey at?
listen to illmatic then it was written first 100%. From there you can either go chronologically or look at his best works. Do understand his legacy, id listen to his recent kings disease and magic run to see how amazing his consistency is and how hes held up today. If you do that, kings disease 1, 2 and magic 1 are my favourite rn. Id also listen to stillmatic and gods son and maybe i am…, they are all the ones most worth listening to. Nastradamus is seen as his complete lowest, nasir is also very disappointing as this video covers, and the rest are all relatively decent at best. Oh yeah, lost tapes is really great too.
@@jaycyclondo dope. I was thinking of illmatic to start but i might do what you say and go with the recent stuff first and than dice back into the older stuff. I love digging into music these days. Makes me feel so alive ☺️☺️☺️
@@diazableAll his albums are different. Most rap artists follow the same formula of their success. Even his latest run of King’s Disease and Magic. Each album song’s different sonically and conceptually. I like or love all his albums. But my personality favorites are It Was Written(most creative album ever) Illmatic(Raps Bible) Lost Tapes(What IAm and Nastradomus was supposed to be) StillMatic(The rebirth) GodSon(reborn again) Life is Good(4.44 from Jay-Z is inspired by this album. Honorable mention is Nas (I am the autobiography) This was a great album. Just to commercial for Nas pure fans. Think of Kendrick Lamar’s Damn Album. I am has songs for everybody. Nas’ Untitled album. This is a touching album. A real deep album. You have to have an open mind for it. Hip Hop is dead by Nas. I like this album a lot. Not one of his best. But lyrically he is sharp. Street Discipline, disc 1, it’s a classic. This album aged well. I would say, listen to (Illmatic)first then (It was written). Then Kings Disease and Magic Series after. Then listen to the rest. He is a Story teller. And his concepts could go over your head. But each album is a different story.
@@crawlinginfaithbdalingo5515 oh damn. I really appreciate your detailed reasons. Showing me your personal preferences and his fans thoughts as well. Hella tight ☺️☺️☺️
Forever a fan of Nas... and it thrills me that most fans still loved "Nasir" despite the negative feedback.. Nas' career trajectory proves he's one hell of a rapper...to have maintained his longevity in the game against all odds speaks volumes.. Truly "God's son."
Great video. It was an okay collabration Nas and Kanye, yet it should have been so much better. Nas and Hit Boy are perfect together. And their latest Magic 3 should be hip hop record of the year.
It wasnt just the Nasir album, Life Is Good wasnt really well received amongst most fans when it came out. Even though now it seems to more favored as it aged. Its considered a grown man's album so this was a different lane for his music at the time. Also I dont consider Lost Tapes to be real albums since its merely a collection of unreleased and revised unreleased songs where he changed a few things. It shouldnt be ranked against his real studio albums. That was purely a move to give back to the fan base in which alot wanted classic Nas records from yesteryear. Calling it a dud based on streams or sales I feel is a stretch. Nas was the only rapper outside of the 2Pac estate putting such "Lost Tape" collections together. But yes I will agree, I expected more from the Nasir album. Had Nas worked with Ye in got 2006-2009, it would be a different story.
I don’t remember hate towards Life Is Good. Maybe I was in a bubble. I bought the deluxe edition the day it came out, it got 4.5 mics in The Source, Hit #1 on the charts, seemed to get rotation for the videos on all the music stations. I thought it was well received unless me and my circle were just gassing it up. 😅
Here is the truth. Hit Boy is the only dude to give Nas HEAT BEATS. Everyone else gives Nas bullshit and then be like: “Nas is done.” That’s absolute trash. Nas is the best ever and y’all way too critical. You don’t do this for no other artist. Y’all are 🚮
I liked Nasir better than all those 7 track albums they released. I feel like it was more like an EP that felt a little rushed. I think is just more Nas is put on a higher scale than the other artist. Still to me it was a pretty good project just not his best. I loved the Adam and Eve track the best. When I look at the Nas and Hit-Boy albums I feel they really made some of the best albums in the past 3 years. I loved the Magic 3 they just released.
Nasir definitely wasn't what i expected to hear but there are still a few special moments on there for me, same with Lost Tapes 2....but shout out the real Frank Ocean for indirectly setting up the KD and Magic series
Nas works better with Kanye for features. Kanye's personality doesn't match with Nas's in the fact that when Kanye has his mindset on something, he needs it by that time. Nas needs time to develop a product that is good for the listeners and that people can enjoy and talk about.
Yeah Nasir wasn’t a bad project like everyone says, it definitely has some joints on there but the kings disease and Magic trilogy just hit different!!
Nasir is overhated because it’s actually a good album but it’s still so disappointing because Kanye just gave him no time to finish the project. The album just felt unfinished but the tracks aren’t horrible. Everything and Adam And Eve are pretty good tracks. Cop Shot The Kid is a good track too but I’m kinda growing to dislike it because not only Andre 3000 was supposed to be on it but the beat is so fucking lazy. I do wish they can make an album again together but given how much of mess Ye is right now, It might take some time but I do wish they make a album again. Nasir is one of Nas’ worst albums definitely but it’s still decent. The Hit-Boy collab really saved Nas’ legacy and I thank Hit-Boy for that. This run will go down in history. Nas is definitely on of the goats.
Nas is one of the greats. I didn't too much like the Nasir album and it did seemed rushed but even in its rushed state, it was still better than a lot of the albums that came out that year.
The only thing bad about that album is it only has seven songs and plus Kanye was going through a lot of emotional things at the moment so now it’s kind of kept his distance a little bit who wouldn’t
This is totally not true. Nas is working with Kanye RIGHT NOW. Lol Please get your facts straight... Their collab album didn't do well commercially, but both Nas and Ye are professional creators. Please don't make assumptions, this is detrimental to the culture.
Nasir had some decent tracks, but in comparison to the two trilogies, it's night and day. Considering what happened to Nas and Hit in the hands of Kanye, I bet they both feel a type of way.
4:47 "kanye's production was just as good as it has ever been" CAP! the beats on NASIR were trash!! maybe 2-3 songs out of 7 had good production. what are u talking about !?! Nas has came thru lyrically on every project regardless of the production
Does everyone really dislike LT2? I understand Nasir. I agree the results were not good. But I like Lost Tapes 2. No, its not as good as the first one, but years later, i would expect a new compilation to be a different sound and content. Anyways what do you guys honestly think about LT2?
I liked the NASIR album but I think had they put it out as a commercial mixtape it probably would’ve been received better to critics I could be wrong though
Who are the “people” that said Nasir and Lost Tapes 2 was a failure? What makes their opinion credible? Most people don’t know hip hop no matter how much they listen to it…..
Nas will never be able to make another illmattic and that’s why it’s so special to me. The fact that Nasir only took 7 days to make.. well PAC made makavelli in 7 days so I don’t think that’s where the problem was. I think he just knew he had to change things up. Honestly his latter run (in my opinion) has overshadowed anything done after stillmattic. He always had a problem with beat selection to me. And having hit boy there was the perfect solution. Wouldn’t be surprised if some of those songs we heard were made in a day…
Nas is real and I never felt he fell off. Truthfully I don't consider Kanye a real rapper I consider him an entertainer. But Nas is a real rapper, I remember growing up in BK during the 90's and Nas was one of my favorite rappers his flow, words, stories and messages in his music have always been great.
just a lil thing, nas had made his own label right, and tl2 was def jam pushing out the last of him before he can go to mass appeal to make his own shit i think, i might be wrong do
It sounds like people follow the narrative of the critics because first Nas picks bad beats that was bs now we gotta act like Nasir and Lost tapes wasn't better than most artists catalogs. Sarcastic ok because if Nas is wack there is no mercy for no one else grabbing a mic
