Skip those other rivers and pop down south of border to swim and fish in Smith River. Cleanest river in lower 48. lol Crescent City, Ca come see the redwoods, plus if you’re coming from Medford you’d have to come down hwy 199 anyways to get to brookings or gold beach. Always love driving up to Brookings and going up the Chetco too though. This area is my home and I love it! Even if it is remote it’s so beautiful!

There should be plenty of residential options in Medford coming online in the next 5+ years. The whole area around Timber Products has been turned into strip malls and 3 story apartment buildings. The same thing is happening by South Gate near Harry & David. Tons and tons of new places to live...I wanna get the heck out of Medford now tho. Too many people. I grew up in a small town, not a crime ridden city with homeless issues...

I live near Bear Camp Road. The poor family actually went down a spur called South Galice Fork (most primitive, narrow, gravel, sharp-rocks road you can get) instead of Bear Camp Road which is 1.5 lanes/single lane but is paved. We did this ourself (in summer) as you have to turn right onto Bear Camp but if you keep going straight you find yourself on South Galice Fork which is why I know how it happened. We turned around at ~8miles in but Kim Family went about ~18miles in full winter + snow. It's amazing they made it that far. Another death occurred on Bear Camp a few years earlier than the Kim family when a guy took a camper up there and got stuck in a snow drift and couldn't get out They didn't find him for a couple of months from what I read. These days, they close it off during winter to avoid mishaps.

If memory serves when the Kim family ended up on the South Galice spur the gate had already been locked by DOT but snowmobilers had cut the lock. Also I'm not sure how much of bear camp rd was paved at the time, and what I heard was their gps told them to go on bearcamp rd even though it was closed for the season.

I grew up in Southern Oregon, lived there the majority of my life but the intrusive government in Oregon makes nearly impossible to enjoy anything in the state. Both my parents are buried there, and sadly, the rest of my immediate family have moved to Texas. I truly miss the beautiful scenery the state has to offer but I'd rather live in a state that's free and you can exercise your God given rights without scrutiny from big brother.

They want to replace the Beaver as the State Animal with the bust of Fauci. Free "Trans" surgeries for children without parental knowledge or consent. If you're pink, please stay in California, Venezuela, or Cuba. Did we mention how much of the land in the video is run by Mexican Cartels using slave labor on their plantations? About 42% of the state's population lives in the tri-county area around Portland. About 100 miles south of there is college town that has about 9% of the population. In the middle of those is the Capitol where another 8% of the population lives. Putting nearly 60% of the population within about a 100 mile chunk of the state.

The Josephine Ophiolite is in that region and makes it particularly special. And the serpentine rocks are oh so beautiful. It is essentially where the mantle (oceanic crust) was uplifted to the surface. This brought up a lot of heavier elements to the surface that are toxic to life. It’s why the area has so little biomass but so much biodiversity. It’s tough for life to survive and life that does survive has to really specialize to make it work. Such a special area and I hope it can stay protected. Read recently that a Canadian mining company got rights to mine part of 8 dollar mountain, lets hope that doesn’t come to fruition.

@@user-cm7he2ep5x : You can thank Congress, the current and past administrations, the courts, overly aggressive fire suppression, climate change, and the Endangered Species Act for that. I would also say that "burned black" applies only in some areas.
@user-cm7he2ep5x
@user-cm7he2ep5x 2 месяца назад
@@johnmontgomery3174 yes all those things add to the problem except maybe fire suppression. It’s fine to use controlled burns as one way to manage forests but that’s not fire suppression. When a fire starts sometimes they put it out and sometimes they let it burn?? It should be a crime to let a fire burn that starts in summer. There’s not a word I can think of that explains how frustrating and sad it feels to see Federal Government doing such a poor job managing forests. Like so many things nowadays we know how to manage forest but we are not allowed to. How did we lose control and is anyone at the wheel
@johnmontgomery3174
@johnmontgomery3174 2 месяца назад
@@user-cm7he2ep5x: There is an excellent TED lecture that shows what excessive fire suppression does to actually increase stand densities. As far as your comment about anyone being at the wheel, I would say no one is at the wheel. I'm not sure what the current mission of the forest service is, but it bears no resemblance to the forest service I worked for.

I like how you point out that the lack of responsible forest management has led to massive fires, but why would you then say they are restricting us from owning it because of their conservation efforts? If you look at a map of fires in oregon, the majority of the damage is on the land owned by the government. That's because private land owners have an invested interest in protecting it.
